A decent bank and I have always liked credit unions but I wouldn't recommend this bank, despite the very friendly clerks if I need to go in.
It is lacking in some of the more cutting edge services of the bigger options, and unfortunately feels a bit backwater.
A major issue I have is that it has been taking up to five full business days for a credit card payment to go through, and when I called to inquire the rep simply agreed "it's same for me." It's very erratic because sometimes it takes two days, other times five. Meanwhile I watch my partner's payments go through instantaneously with CIBC.
Their banking app is often down or freezes, and has also been unclear regarding holds on the account, plus their hours of operation aren't overly convenient. I was grandfathered into an MBNA credit card and have found the MBNA customer service very terrible, an example is when my new card was lost in the mail. The rep said, we could easily UPS this to you so you don't miss any payments, because we have to void your card." I said yes, and when it arrived I was charged $30. MBNA said I should have sent the card back?? And missed my automatic payments I guess.
Finally, the bank was "offline" for a day and nobody attempted to email us. I was in a grocery store with everything bagged to go and the payment was declined. It would have been nice to get some communication once the bank became aware that it was offline for the day, or some explanation afterward as how that happens. It felt really vulnerable.
If you are looking for a bank don't just come here for the free chequing account, as I did. Take time to really look at a couple options and see what services you'd like.
