My mother banked at the Credit Union for many, many years. After she passed away last year, I began working with the Credit Union as we wrapped up her financial affairs. Upon entering the building, the first striking thing I noticed was the fact that all the staff knew my mother by name and expressed sincere grief over her passing. In fact, before I even met them, Carolyn had already posted a note of condolence on my mother's memorial page. It was clear they thought of my mother as more than a "number" in their books. That level of friendliness and personal service was extended to me immediately by all the staff. The next thing I noticed about the Credit Union was the competence with which they did their jobs. They all (especially Carolyn, since I dealt with her most of the time) demonstrated patience as they helped me navigate the various tasks of my mother's estate. The advice Carolyn gave proved to be accurate as I then had to go out to deal with other banking institutions. Of those other banks, I would have to say the Oshawa Community Credit Union led them all in customer service and I offer the OCCU a heartfelt "thank you".

She took my money moved it into different accounts to protect it. I’m glad I did I myself would never have been able to figure it out. She will contact me if I need to move some money into something different. I’m very happy she has my back so I don’t have worry about my investments. She also looks after my mother’s accounts which is a blessing she will call and tell mom that she is going to make a move on her accounts. I came into OCCU because I heard how well they treated their clients, they work together to come to a banking decision, don’t need “approval” from big banking industries and as a bonus they have perks being a part of their community. For example, yearly you receive a share in their funds, if you have a business of your own they help promote your business by displaying your products OR business cards. They promote local fundraisers within their client community and every year they sell GREAT stocking stuffers, teacher ideas, small gifts you can get the person who “Has everything”. As a member you are not charged fees constantly like the banks. Finally as a member, the Credit Union has mortgage referral bonuses, patronage share rebates, and other programs that puts money back in your pocket simply for belonging. Members taking care of each other. It really makes a difference compared to the big bank mentality.
