Service at the welland branch, nice and pleasant go out of their way to help. I have never had such bad service from the mail reminders and or letters deeming missed payment or extra charges ever. You call the 1800 number they leave and very poor customer service. The payments that have been discussed to be caught up on within a week previously not resolved or communicated between previous phone call or branch visit! Makes for a very stressfull service and time. Maybe if you offer friendly reminders or missed payments and such through email everyone will be on the same page at the same time! Ashley w Dalton. After a number of calls and a couple of visits, we have been offered a grace month, which is a relief. Still recommend email paperless reminders.

So it's a bank, yes a credit union but if you don't have an account with them, suffer from a disability that won't let you walk far, they don't want to deal with you for changing any currency to cdn.

Having banked in Oakville for over 30 years, let me share recent experiences of this as a bank/credit union and branch. Currently, as of Nov. 2020, First Ontario is the best in their customer service relative to other downtown banks. The other downtown Oakville banks can be ranked in this order 2)Scotia 3)RBC 4)CIBC 5) BMO 6)HSBC 7)TD. When it comes to Credit Unions (ones with real offices you can visit), First Ont. are as good for service. The only thing that lets them down at this time is that their investment rates don't currently match Talka (Hamilton), Duca (Burlington), BCU (MIssissauga), Parma (Toronto).

This is probably the most disorganized financial institution I've had the pleasure of dealing with. I originally came here for a 'good' USD investment account which paid a good interest. The interest rate quickly deteriorated over the next couple of months. Brandon at this branch is useless. I would seriously advice to the manager running this branch to promote one of your tellers over Brandon. Brandon can't even be bothered to change his outdated voicemails, let alone actually pick up his phone or respond to emails or voicemails, ever. He is unaware of what is possible and what is not in terms of USD transfer methods... nor was anybody in this institution informed that they do a hard credit check to open a simple chequing account. I regret wasting my time chasing a slightly higher return on USD for a short time.

The service at this place on Kerr Street, Oakville, is absolutely terrible. I went in today to make a deposit. There was only 1 teller on and she was tied up for over half an hour with this customer. I closed my account and i will never deal with first ontario again.

Great local branch for anyone who is pretty much glued to the Kerr St neighbourhood. Friendly staff and pretty amazing savings accounts interest rates up to 1.75%. But as with all credit unions, good luck finding a branch when you're not in your local neighbourhood.

Always a friendly smile and helpful service from the banking staff. I have been with FirstOntario Credit Union Welland for nearly 5 years, and it's a nice touch when the staff know your name and greet you when you enter. The staff are local to the community and are all heavily involved with volunteering at community events. From personal banking to business banking, FirstOntario Credit Union Welland offers you the services you need, affordably, and do so with the small-town feeling that you dont receive when your known as a number with some other large banks. Keep up the good work.

As with other reviewers I too am having difficulty getting a hold of Brandon at this branch. I AM TRYING to settle my dad's account and even when someone answeres the phone and assures me that Brandon will get back to me he doesn't. If I had known that this branch couldn't do what I needed in house I would have been done it through my dads home branch in Hamilton when they called me.

The bank machine at this branch is CONSTANTLY eating the bank cards (even though this machine replaced the old one within the last year and a half). Personally has happened to me 3 times now. The staff also seem to have troubles performing simple tasks such as paying bills to the right accounts, linking bank cards to the right accounts, no information on how much Cheques cost, etc. They are friendly though which is the only reason they get 2 stars.

I tried calling the company multiple times to prevent GIC autorenewals and they do not do it. I have had my money trapped in the account for 9 months longer than I planned and they're trying to force me to keep it in at 0.45%, despite the fact that it has matured.

Very disappointed in the service we received in renewing our Mortgage. They were suppose to change our payment schedule upon renewal and it has taken over a month to change, still not done. It caused NSF fees, additional charges and is still yet to be corrected. Now we have to come up with money we were not anticipating at a difficult time during COVID. When asked to defer a week due to the error to help with the unexpected $$ we were denied. I was contact to let us know there was a fee to change the my payment to weekly, reluctantly confirmed that I would pay the fee. I was under the impression it was changed, only to receive a call the day the payment was due advising that it was not done. Luckily they will be reimbursing any NSF charges.. Still Very disappointed!

Astoundingly terrible service! It is literally impossible to reach any person at this credit union by phone. No one answers. Ever. Have been trying for many months to finalize some simple paperwork to close a deceased family member’s account. Finally someone responded to a request for action from our lawyer. The credit union staffer asked us to come in this Saturday to sign. Guess what? They were closed all day. This after driving in from out of town. Unbelievable.

Where do I start when it comes to the problems at the Wellend branch. It took 4 months, yes that’s right 4 months to set up a second mortgage after my application was past around the office and forgotten about and passed to 3 separate employees only to start the proses all over again each time... Records of last meeting? No, they couldn’t find them. Had to do all the leg work for them getting paperwork for them each time. Can’t banks talk to each other? We set up a credit card with them and gave them $2500 as security on the limit only to be called one week before Christmas that Firstontario is no longer working with the CC company and was going to be closing the account on Dec 31 and would need to reapply again in 2018. Credit score alert! After not getting anything in the mail saying it was closed and calls to the branch only got me a voice mail saying the last person I dealt with is on vacation. Now today March 6th 2018 found out I missed a payment on a credit card that was closed at the end of December 2017 and my credit score dropped by 50 points!!!! How long is that going to take to come back up because of there incompetents! Terrible people to be tied to!

Worst bank in Canada. Good luck trying to reach them on phone. They never return emails or call back. Avoid this branch and thank me later. Did I also mention if you are of colour and have little financial weight in your account, they treat you differently... I would never use this branch again and I closed down my account because of that branch. Avoid if you can and thank me later !
