I work for a sister company called Mainstay we cover northern Nova Scotia, we work a lot in Truro, Pictou and New Glasgow. It's a great job, it typically keeps you very busy during the shifts, and it's exciting working for such a rapidly growing company. I do love it. It's often exciting, and I love having various sites, working with the public, solving problems, helping the stores and customers, and the uniforms not only look professional, but are very functional. My only issues are, it's minimum wage with no medical or dental plans / benefits, we have to do training in a fire hall because our office is so small(we have a large office in halifax but it's a long drive for us),it can be hard to get the equipment we need (note pads, batons, cuffs, new uniforms, ect) and sometimes communication with head office can be difficult. If we could have a proper office with a space to train in, and cut down on our travel to head office, and make communications a bit better, we would be on track to grow ever bigger and faster.

Hello, I am currently employed by independent security for approximately 4 years now, in my years of employment the staff and training that I have received by the company has been top notch. The positive attitude between me and my fellow coworkers and management staff is well appreciated. With the addition of the new building sets a new standard for the company and owner that this company will continue to grow and operate at a quality that is second to none. Thank you to management and ownership for the opportunity to grow with you????

I had started with this company over a decade ago, working as an armed guard in hopes that it would provide me with some experience to later move into law enforcement or the military. I had first seen one of the trucks around and noticed that the guards were carrying a variety of equipment and most notably semi automatic firearms; whereas other armored car companies even to this day are using revolvers as their sole means of conflict intervention. Being a somewhat smaller company, compared to others that are international, you're not just a number in the system but a familiar face to the management team right up to the Director. This ensures that a driven individual will not fall though the cracks but be provided with opportunities for advancement. The training the company offers well exceeds industry standards and does an excellent job giving anyone looking for a career in policing or military a clear advantage over those without it. Currently, this is the only company industry wide that offers such a program. I have personally moved from the "new guy" to senior staff, 2IC then manager of my division learning invaluable skills along the way. I left the company in 2012 to be begin a career in the Canadian Armed Forces in which I excelled due in large part to training from this company and support from the management team and Director. To those who like it, this company becomes a second home, one that welcomed me back with open arms after my departure from the Canadian Armed Forces. If you are willing to put in hard work and wish to learn skills and techniques to further your career in this field, IAT/ISS/MSS will take care of you.

Next month will be my 11 year mark, in that time I started as a secure delivery driver which began operating in January 2006. Within 3 years I was offered the Manager's position which at that time I declined. Going forward 2 years, the Manager's position came up once again which I took and kept the title for the next 4.5 years, I am now the 2IC for the mobile division as I stepped down for personal reasons. Back in 2006 Secure Delivery was just servicing 2 major pharmacy groups, now ISSA has 85% of the drug stores in HRM, and also delivers inter city mail and lawyer documents throughout the city. If you're looking for a company that has growth and advancement this is the place to be.

Decent company, worked there for a few months.

I am employed by ISSA as an LPO and have been working there for about 2 months now and so far i have really enjoyed the job and the pay is pretty ok for just starting out. one thing i like is that i can always talk to my manager about any concerns I have and he always helps me to his full extent. i will now list what i think the pros and cons are with this job. Pros - - Decent pay - Amazing Hours - Amazing Management - Easy to book time off - Easy to move around in the company - Great Experience for new security guards. Cons - - You pay for training even if you don't go - Pay for uniform - People Screaming profanities at you - People Physically Abusing you - No Self Defense Weapons (Ex. Baton, hand cuffs, Etc. - Days can get super long when double booked. - Usually you are alone. (some of you might think this is a "pro" not a "con" but from my experience its a "con") The People that you catch stealing are not always cooperative. And can get very violent and you don't have anything other than your hands to protect your self. But all in all I do like this job and i hope to try everything that they have to offer.

I have been working for the company now a year.I have worked in two decisions LPO\security and now Parking Enforcement. I find the people i work with are a great bunch of people and the management fare and easy to work with. The only issue i have is being diabetic the company has no medical plan,it cost me to pay for medication out of pocket and being insulin dependent can not get a medical plan. There is a lot of chance of advancement and growth, you just need to like every company work for it.

I've been with the company for only a couple of months, but I am already finding it a much better work environment than most I've been in. I've heard of several people that were not doing their jobs properly/at all being fired and replaced. Too many companies tend to leave such people on the payroll and hope that they will clean up their act on their own. *cough* Sagittarius *cough*

After working for ISSA as a special constable for almost two years, I can comfortably say that it is a good company to work for. As a post secondary student, ISSA has provided me with plentiful amounts of life experience that has ultimately supplemented my degree in Criminology. Wanting to pursue a career in law enforcement, I figured it would be a good idea to work for a security company. Unlike other security companies, ISSA provides you with police like training and operates like a paramilitary organization. If you want to pursue a future in law enforcement, security or the military, ISSA is the perfect "stepping stone" needed to help you succeed. JUST MAKE SURE TO WORK HARD AND TAKE PRIDE IN WHAT YOU DO! Additionally, it is nice that ISSA is a local business. I always found it easy to take pride in working for ISSA knowing I wasn't supporting a large conglomerate. Saying so, if you chose to work for ISSA, you will likely personally get to know the upper management and the owner. Overall, if you want a rewarding "stepping stone" job that will help you pursue a career in law enforcement, ISSA is the perfect place to apply!

Fantastic company. I worked for ISSA before joining the Canadian Forces. ISSA is ready to meet your scheduling needs and work with you. I was working at a Canadian Tire doing rounds, it was an OK job, paid the bills. Then some special events came up, I got to do parking direction down town at Peer 21. I had never done this before, so I had to think on my toes. Hundreds of cars were coming in, and it was my job to get them parked. Later that night lots of drunk dudes were loud and routy, so it was my job to get them in a cab. There were a few fights, we called to Police for one fella. Exciting friggin day. So this company can offer you stability for sure. But man, some of the shifts are LONG. But, honestly if you're interested in joining the RCMP, Police or Canadian Forces this is a great gig. It is a paramilitary organization, I think the owner was an officer in the Canadian Forces. Expect a fair but demanding experience. The coolest thing for me, that I'm always thankful for, was after learning I was a computer geek - they gave me a security job at a high tech server room. It was a night shift, so that sucks. But it was my job to secure thousands of servers! It was cool. It gave me perspective. Want a job at McDonalds? Go get one. Want a potential career with a uniform and sense of direction? ISSA Could be for you. Give them a call or apply on their website.

There might be some bad things about this company, like the low wages and sometimes long hours, especially at some locations they seem really long, and sometimes you have to keep your schedule flexible.. and like some people mentioned, you have to pay for your equipment. And what I personally really didn't like was that if you had two back to back shifts you didn't get paid for the hour in between which was also pretty much spent for the company travelling from one store to another.. but what those people failed to mention is that despite all this, the management does a lot to ensure the employees don't get burdened. I have myself seen the manager taking on some shifts himself for employees who called in sick since there wasn't anyone else to cover. And I have myself been cut some slack a couple of times for calling in sick at the very last moment. And company also helps you with the equipment by letting you get them on nominal monthly installments coming out of your pay so you don't get burdened. And one example that really shows the character of this company and it's top brass is when I got a call for another job where i had to start training in 2days time. And although the company was short on staff at that time and I was legally bound to give 2weeks notice, they still let me leave. I was asked to cover just my first week's shifts, some of which my colleagues did for me around their schedule and the others I covered myself. and I got that job. I still work here part time, and they have been flexible enough to work around my schedule. And this is just one of the examples from my own personal experience working here. There's another example which I can't mention here due to it's business confidential nature, but suffice to say, the company had my back when I needed it. And I'm pretty sure others working here would at least attest to that. The key thing to remember is, as you sow so shall you reap!! If you'll be honest, flexible and loyal, that is exactly what you'll get in return here(at least that's what I've noticed)

Like to work in this company. I work as a Loss Prevention Officer. Been here for almost two months and got three bonuses worth $125. The manager is very polite and understanding and whenever I need a leave of absence, he makes that happen. The pay is not much but I make it through bonuses.

Michael Collier

Upper management could not be more supportive. Volunteering as a firefighter is very important to me, and ISSA has always made my schedule work so as to not interfere. Great place to work.

I've been working with ISS for about 3 months now. Honestly speaking it's not always been great like with any job out there. But however I really do like the manager and flexibility of scheduling, you pretty much choose when you wanna work and when you need days off and a sheet for that is always provided with your schedule bi-weekly. I work mostly as LPO which can be dragging but the job has its pros and cons, not an easy job but it's not impossible as long as you have the right mindset. Some people complain about it but you know exactly what you are signing up for before the first shift. Of course just from hearing about it sounds great, but so does "you get 50% discount as an employee at MacDonalds" in until you work there. For some of the things I don't like. It would be paying for training if I don't attend, i am not against paying for training at all if I actually did attend. Another thing I find really annoying is the organization in some of the binders at some store locations, its a mess, looks extremely unprofessional and makes it difficult at times to fill of paperwork with papers just randomly falling out of the binder. Overall I do enjoy working for the company and learning from experiences I have there. I really like how there is also a lot of different things to try and find what you would really like to do. Hopefully in the future I will be able to move up into something more challenging than LPO and that envolves working with a team or partner. Thank you for the opportunity and I hope the company keeps up the good services.

I have been with the company now for just over 4 years, I started from the bottom doing uniformed guard, my manager at the time asked me to give Loss Prevention a try I was nervous but I tried it and excelled in it very rapidly! I was recognized as employee of the year my first year here and given a beautiful plaque! The General Manager (who hands down is one of the best, fair, and honest bosses I have ever had) approached me asking me to lead up and manage the Loss Prevention team which I took with open arms and grew it and developed some amazing LPOs over the years 2 years ago I was then moved into the position combining the Loss Prevention and security divisions as one I am now Operations Manager of it all. I love my job and my employees and never thought I would have been given such a high position for such a reputable company at the age of 22...Lawrence and Shawn both saw potential in me and went on a limb to try me in the position..well just over 2 years I'm still going strong we are still growing and all learning together! Working here is more than just a job it's a team, a family, a young energetic ever rapidly growing home! I couldn't ask for a better place to work!

Been here for a few years now, It's a great company to work for. Very flexible schedule if you need certain days off for school and or family matters that may occur at any time. Having kids myself it makes things a lot easier to work for people who are family oriented and are understanding when it comes down to my children if I need time off when they are sick they will do what it takes to fill shifts so you don't have to worry aboUT your job and can focus on your kids.

I have been reading all the reviews on here about ISS and IAT Security. I have been with Mainstay Security Services since 2009. ISS took it over in 2012. I began as a uniformed guard and then was promoted to field supervisor. When ISS IAT took over Mainstay I was promoted to Operations Manager. In the time I have been working for Mainstay under ISS IAT I can genuinely say that I have had a very positive experience with the company. The training they provide is very useful to you in the event you find yourself in a situation in which without this training you could find yourself in more trouble. The company prides it self on the fact that they offer this type of training to all employees. They do deduct you for any uniforem you are issued but you receive that money back if you leave the company for any reason and you return your uniform and it is in excellent condition you get that money back. As a manager some of the nay sayers are probably going to say that I am sugar coating this as I am a manager nothing is farther from the truth. If I have something to say whether good or bad I say it. I have been witnessed to the owners compassion with people and employees which you never hear on here. It would be great if you could go to work Monday to Friday 0800-1600 and no weekends. Security is not like that. Our busiest times are the weekends. I have also seen how our different divisions can come togeather as a team and work well togeather to get the job done and satisfy the client. You are going to have disgruntled employees no matter what job you work at. When you come in for the new hire sessions you are told about the job you are applying for and you can tell if the job is for you. As a colleague of mine said apply for a corrections course and see what you would pay for training.Security is not for everyone. If you do not like the position you are in talk to your supervisor and they will work with you to try and transistion you to another position within the company if possible. In closing I am very happy to working for and with some of the most highly trained security officers in the Atlantic Provinces.

I started with this company over a year ago now as an LPO . There is good and bad in this line of work, as in any job we decide to do. I can say in my own experience with this company they are always there for me. And have treated me as an equal. Not just a number. Some things need improvement but can be fixed by just having communication. The management team at I. S. S. A. make the tough decisions they need to. For our clients and staff. Sometimes good sometimes not so good. But most definitely for the best. Keep up the good fight and be proud to be part of this growing family.

Terra MacEachern

I have worked for ISSA for almost 2 years and I have to say that management is awesome. I am a single mom and they work with me when I need time off. They listen when staff has issues and try to work with them to resolve it. ISSA Rocks

Shawn Drysdale

I have been with this company for 11 years now. Started as a security officer and Armed Guard back in 2005!! I have had many experiences and have been provided many opportunities to grow and expand my career into what it is today! We have become quite a large family. Lawrence Conrad has been a mentor but most of all has become a part of my family and a very close friend. He has always provided me with guidance and direction to aid in my successes. The company as well as Lawrence has always fostered growth for individuals and invests time into those willing to learn and grow, going that extra mile to ensure his staff achieve their goals and doing what he can to see them off into successful law enforcement careers! We are not perfect but are always improving, learning and educating ourselves and our staff!!

I have been with this company for well over 5 years now. It takes a lot to keep a company running and team work is the most important. We consider everyone that works here as family. I love the fact that people come to work for us to get the beginnings they need to work towards thier future goals and succeed whether it be rcmp, military, border services or where even thier dreams are. We encourage all to make the best out of themselves and to build confidence. Definitely a good place to work !

I worked for this company doing Loss Prevention and Security for about 6 months. The new hire class has a lot of information. The manager Andrew and The Admin assistant Dayna were very helpful during this process and provided one on one help if necessary. I have worked a few other security jobs in my day and had very little to know training with other companies. When I was hired for ISS I was blown away by the amount of time, effort and resources they put into their training program. Instructors were very helpful and the power points were very informative. The classes were open to all staff to attend and you could take any class you wanted as many times as you like! They even included you into the Armed Guard Training if you showed drive, ambition and willingness to excel! Over all this was a great company to work for. They are not just a security company but are part of a group of companies that specialize in Delivery Services, ATM's and Armored Car Services. a lot of opportunity for people willing to put in the work! I myself went off in another direction but would have stayed and perused a career otherwise. The management team were very flexible and very helpful. Even though I didn't have one, I have heard that they do going away gatherings for staff that have been employed for a year or more and present them with a plaque!! They also hold A Summer BBQ they have for all staff, their families and the community Which is free BTW and has bouncy castles face painting cotton candy, food fun and games, the Xmas party is another free event the owner puts on and employees of the month and year awards! These things go along way in showing their appreciation for their staff. I wish them nothing but success!
