Please allow my response email to yet another updated customer service agreement speak for itself. It's been several weeks since I put in a request for a phone call from my branch. I try to phone directly but ALWAYS get diverted to their call centre in the Philippines Hey Barry Gollom Senior Vice President of Products and Customer Experience In response to "our customer agreement" … Thanks for the awesome update on how you plan to change our service AGREEMENT! Shame I missed the part where we either agreed to this or where you even ever allowed me to speak to you about past agreements. So Bar, bear-man, bud, well let's go full-on Hobbit here: yo Gollam, how's under the bridge life going?!! … have I figured out your best buds nickname yet? No? Sure would be nice if customers could actually reach you by phone rather than go through time-wasting hell talking to call centre people. I've been waiting for weeks for a call back from my branch. Easy for you to reach me. Why do I need to walk through fire to be able to reach you????? My thoughts: On "customer agreements": do customers actually even have a choice. Do you dare call them customer "take it or leave it" clauses? Or maybe "customer contracts" since mentioning "agree" pretty much gets into the hilarious nature of extremely long software update (think Apple) "agree" corners we're all backed into. Really how about making an effort here? You send out these new terms but if I have my mortgage etc at HSBC, do I really have any choice as far as terms of an apparent agreement go? And trust me, I'll go along if you people would at least have a way for REAL CUSTOMERS to actually call you with real questions about these issues. I SERIOUSLY wanted to talk to an HSBC person about a REAL issue as far as charges go but you made me speak to a person in the Philippines. Are you cowards or just can't be bothered? Too busy counting your money???

Banked with HSBC 13 years . Recently HSBC chances its policy and all checks are held for 6-7 business days to clear. The exception is if you go in and wait for a teller, then they will clear you check on the spot . So let me understand this , I can take picture deposit funds but they dont clear . I have been an exceptional client perfect credit .. but you hold small and large checks .. So I call Van-City on the phone - they pull my credit .. They state not a problem They will not hold my check up to $5000. So I go back to my bank and I ask .."there has to be something we can do" Baffled they look at me and stated no .. So YOU LOST MY BUSINESS

HSBC is my primary bank here in Canada. I had great experience with services of HSBC. I will specially speak about HSBC Hurontario Street Branch. It is great. Every one is so friendly. HSBC Lisgar Branch is also very good. But HSBC Hurontario Branch Mississauga customer services are excellent. I will specifically mention one person and he is Mr Virasp S Umrigar a personal manager who I have found the best. He is kind, helpful, experienced , ethical and highly professional. We are so proud of him and HSBC.

In my mind that's really bad customer service and as a business owner l absolutely do not want to have anything to do with a company that treats their customers this way . Complete Waste of Time!! I booked an appointment yesterday for today at 1pm with Yosef! HSBC I suggest you teach this clown some customer service skills. I came to open up a premium account ( which your head office booked for me due to the large deposit) I left 2 mins after we sat down. Completely rude and condescending. Dressed like a slob in red t shirt and jean. No respect given at all and not one ounce of professionalism.

We had one of the worst costumer service experience with this bank and branch. Oscar was the least helpful mortgage specialist I've had interaction with. We talked over the phone about their special promotion and he asked us to visit him in the branch to go over the details. Right at the begining of the meeting without asking the routine questions that other mortgage specialist go over and offer a plan or discuss options, just after 3 minutes he right away said that "go to other big banks and whatever rate they offer you we will match it" !!!! Nice job Oscar nice job. That is the spirit of competition and customer satisfaction

Terrible "bankers" hours and no access to the ATM when bank is closed. The whole point of an ATM is the ability to do your banking after hours, now if I want to deposit or withdraw I have to be there between 10am and 4 pm!!?? Are we back in the 1980's?

Not only are the counter staff rude (yes, the woman with short, white hair in particular), I have spent many months now attempting to refinance my mortgage and have encountered nothing by a complete lack of urgency, care or due diligence at all turns. I had a very bad experience with this bank, few months back. My husband went to open an account in 4550 Hurontario street branch and it took 3 weeks that too after visiting the bank 3 times. That was real harassment. Also they don't process the referral bonus until you call them multiple times and follow up.

2 stars because the bank branch itself is... fine... I guess. Tellers are friendly and competent. Location is ideal, literally on top of the LRT station. However it is no longer possible to contact anyone at this location on the phone. Instead all calls are answered by misinformed and careless script readers, in a call center probably located nowhere near Canada, let alone downtown Ottawa.

This is branch had the rudest customer service I have ever encountered. My account was inactive, so the bank closed it. I went to reactivate my account. The teller employee seemed rude and kept asking me if I expect to use it as there’s “4.5 $ fee for using” She kept asking this several times as if I am a beggar.

That is the worst experience in my life with a mortgage. For 2 months, all was good then a day before closing, HSBC told me no financing anymore. My credit score is 870! I never thought this poor of service was possible from a bank with physical branches. I have been trying to get printed statements for five weeks, by any means possible - fax, mail, pick up... and I still don't have my statements despite several visits and countless phone calls.

I know HSBC isn't strong in Canada, but from this branch I've got the worst experience ever. Been here twice for drafts, branch never pick up the phone nor return fax to verify for me. First time I ended up waiting more than a week for my fund to release and losing thousands of dollars because of the delay. Second time I asked them for a staff's phone number to verify my draft, and they told me to fax. And yes they are from 14th century and they don't have a business phone. I've decided to switch banks for day to day use, after going into HSBC for the second time about the same issue, I was told that my application for line of credit overdraft for my cheq account had not been setup and they'd have to redo the whole application and also do another appraisal on my house if I want it registered ($300 cost to me), which is opposite of what we were told by two other people there before, including the call centre. Also every one of the three times my spouse and I went into the bank branch they had no info about our appointment that we made through the call centre. they lost our application we had done previously so we had to go in again and redo it for line of credit. we made an appointment to setup an RESP, but since they didn't have knowledge of our appointment we would have to come back again to open an RESP. So I'd have to go in two more times, once for an RESP and once for the cheq account. The bank is on the other side of the city, it's inconvenient to begin with. Turned out that we did have an appointment but it didn't "pop up" on the branch manager's computer, so she didn't know, she apologized, saying how there's issues with the call centre, and they've had new staff that may have made mistakes and given us false info, but sadly that doesn't make up for all our wasted time and effort on our part. There is a huge disconnect between the branch and the call centre. anyways, I don't know if this is local to the Nanaimo HSBC, but either way I'll try out another bank. The fact I can apply online with other banks is a big plus. The only reason I'm giving a 2 star and not 1, is we have our mortgage with them and they gave us a good rate, but again it was a mixup with the branch and appointments. hsbc get your call centre and branch communication organized, and allow for more online or telephone banking options for opening accounts and investments.

I recently switched my mortgage and chequing account to HSBC in New West. I got a fantastic rate on my mortgage that will save me thousands of dollars as well as a free bank account with it that comes with excellent features. The only downside to this location is their limited hours, but you can always call their telephone customer service or use the online chat or secure message feature. Edit after 6 mos: my banker is awesome. He took the time to come out of his office and say hi to me. It’s not like I’m a high worth client or anything, and this gesture meant a lot to me. It seems like everyone working there is well trained and really cares for their customers. So far the experience has been better than any of the Big 5.

Worst branch and bank I’ve ever dealt with, went and deposited cash at the ATM on a Sunday, didn’t realize that there would be a 4-5 day hold on the deposit (I usually use TD where there is no hold, but I reached my limit for the day). Needed the money to use right away and was told Friday at 5pm the funds will be available, was forced to wait till Friday even though I went into the branch twice for a waiver on the hold. It’s now 6pm on Friday and the funds are still unavailable... absolutely ridiculous. I not only had the bank teller inform me that it would be available by 5pm but she confirmed it with the branch manager as well.

Worst bank service! Strike 1: They made a mistake on my account. Took months to correct. Stike 2: Went in to get USD. The teller chit chatted with a costomer for 10 mins after the transaction was over when there was a line!!! Strike 3: They gave me a security code device to use to log on to my account online. It never worked. After 40 mins on the phone they said i have to physically go in to a branch to get a new security code device. Worst worst worst!

I was planning to open an account with them, they asked me to wait outside, while there is 3 people inside. Tellers are running around breaking social distancing to inform you that you have to take their rules as is.

Banking as we know it today is at least 20 years ahead of what I've experienced with HSBC Canada. They try to get you with low mortgage rates but that's pretty much where your wow ends. You end up spending more to keep your day-day banking moving. The Mississauga city Centre staff is very slow, unresponsive and bureaucratic. One of the most frustrating branch of HSBC bank in Toronto. This is my branch I have my account opened but I always got a better service from the other branches. The service providers in the counters always try to lead the customers towards the online help or phone banking that would create more difficulty. What they can't understand is people come to ask for their help after trying all these steps. Always there are very less numbers of service providers in the counters, mostly one. I recommend you to find another branch rather than wasting your valuable time.

My RRSP is managed through HSBC. All of my coworkers and even the administration at my place of employment are beyond frustrated with the service provided by this institution. I've never gotten trustworthy information here nor any satisfactory customer service. It took 3 attempts for them to set up my investments correctly over the course of 3 months while my money sat in the account as cash. Three months with zero earnings in that account as a result. There is no way of monitoring the account online or at the branch. Instead there are only quarterly paper statements. I have to wait 3-4 months between statements to see bank errors or to see the value of my savings. Unfortunately, my hands are tied because this is the institution my employer is stuck with. Cannot escape the incompetence of HSBC - stay away if you can. No one here knows anything and even worse they don't seem to care.

Great bank, don't believe some of these bad reviews. Something is fishy with those reviews. We have mortgages and accounts with them, they don't sell your information to Trudeau and marketing companies like the other banks do. The only issue is sometimes there is a lineup for the tellers but I never use them unless necessary. They do not harass you monthly for your investments or insurance like ScotiaBank used to do to me. Our mortgage was done quickly in 5 days and we got the lower rate as it dropped after we started the process. Which is awesome! They really helped out and were quick.

Very bad and harmful service.I traveled outside Canada for one year and I did not use hsbc credit card, when I returned to Canada I found out that they destroyed my credit score 6 yers with a claim of $0.Today my wife is in the pharmacy trying to buy insulin needles for diabetes but my hsbc debit card is not working because my account is on hold for no reason despite that I have money there. TO PEOPLE WHO ARE READING THIS REVIEW: DO NOT USE THIS BANK! Please read my experience with them below to understand why I say so. If possible, I'd prefer to give this bank -5 stars. The staff here do not know sh*t about their own bank. They told us because we are new customers, so we cannot have access to online banking, even though we just need a chequing account, not credit cards. Then we called their call centre, and messages their agent through Facebook, we got completely different answers. And that's not the worst, this branch locked our account because we set up the online banking, through an agent at their call centre. We talked to the staff again and she lied to us saying they didn't do this. However meanwhile the call center told us it was the branch who locked our account. When we opened our account here, we specifically informed them we are going overseas for a couple of years and that's why we chose HSBC because they have branches all over the world. After they locked our account when we were outside of Canada, they told us we had to go back to Winnipeg to unlock it, which is an impossible thing for us to do. The situation is still going on, it's been days and no one from HSBC could tell us why our account got locked or how to get it unlocked. My experience tells me that it's either just this one branch being completely unprofessional or the who HSBC is just a joke.

My wife and I had an appointment on a Saturday afternoon. We went in and were received by the staff. We were there for roughly about an hour to open our checking and savings CAD, USD accounts. I've been happy over the years as a BC credit union member, to be able to withdraw funds from my Vancity account through HSBC ABMs in various parts of Canada as well as in Cairo, Egypt and Ramallah, Palestine. Unfortunately even as a Premier account holder I have to agree with most of the reviews before me, this bank the staff and the management has a sense of entitlement and a lack of sense for good customer service. Also like to mention that it is the only bank that has no access to the ATM after 8PM. Their processes rules and mortgage approvals are also overly strict and unrealistic, not in tune with the other major banks.

Best experience with this branch staff Ms Nina Chen. She spent a long time in helping me to deal with my HSBC UK account transaction, as I was told, by the HSBC bank in UK that I need to go into one of the branch in Canada to identify myself in person. Being prefered client more than 10 years , I had great service before till it happened that I was coming out of hospital the passed Friday and stopped by this new branch with my brother in law who had all my IDs and waited in the car , to pay credit card statement , it took 50 minutes to find out how they pay bill from account in the branch , they told us they need special code , teller didn't know anything , then on a wheelchair my brother in law took me to the branch to talk to the manager , she was confused , no apology and said we are in touch with head office to figure out ???????????? This bank used to be good (we are talking about 10 years ago). But recently, I've noticed a lot of staffing changes. This bank is not user friendly. I have recently gotten married and was trying to add my wife to my account, they said that I had to open up a whole new account! Then they proceeded to tell me and my wife that they wanted her to switch banks and bring all her money in before they would do this, UHHH what? Unethical services for sure. We went to my wife's bank, added me no problem. HSBC needs to get with the times as well, their hours of operation suck due to me working Monday-Friday late, and on their Saturdays the staff there are fairly green. It took them 30 mins to add a payee to my account? Really guys. Not happy, thinking about pulling my accounts and switching banks.

This is my second bank after closing my account at CIBC. Not happy with their debit card limit and they won’t give me a MasterCard. I banked with them since I was 12 yrs old to 2012. I tried to deposit my paycheck and the Brown Bank teller was rude that I didn’t bring my bank book. Did not understand what I am asking for and then went to his premier manager to ask him about it. Then he gives me answer while I am standing outside the premier manager office. We had a company account through HSBC and their commercial side is terrible to deal with. We are no longer banking there. Their account managers turn-over quicker than McDonald's employees and their customer service is poorer. In my 5 years being employed at my current position, I have seen 4 different reps working on our account. So, if you are looking to build a relationship with your banker, don't go to HSBC. They could care less about the Oil & Gas industry in Alberta. Most people should be familiar with HSBC shunning fossil fuels, but if you aren't just google "HSBC oil sands". Also, they seem to actively be moving away from Red Deer. Every time I took a deposit in the last year or so, you could fire a cannon through their office and not hit a single person. If I were to say 1 good thing about them, their tellers are fairly friendly.

Had an appointment to open an account and somehow they had no record of it. When I insisted on seeing someone, they had me sit with Jia Si Shen. She seemed to be doing everything in her power to dissuade me from open up a USD account with HSBC. She was rude, condescending, and a limited understanding of Canadian laws surrounding a bank's responsibility to provide Canadian citizens with banking needs. Long story short, because of timing and delay this bank cost me thousands when trying to renew my mortgage with them when they advertised 2.39%. Should of just stay with RBC and took the 2.59% renewal. It took almost 3 weeks to hear back and got declined and rate had just gone up to 2.94%.

BEWARE !!!, We had a valid complaint which the Branch Manager investigated and was then passed to the HSBC`s Ombudsman. We have documented proof from these individuals both the Branch Manager and the HSBC`s Ombudsman that they repeatedly gave wrongful information to ourselves during the time we were trying to sell our home. These individuals also gave wrongful information in documents to our lawyers. During an investigation by the OBSI (Office Of Banking Services & Investments) the HSBC`s own Ombudsman gave wrongful information in a document to cover up their mistakes. Hugely wrongful information stated in documents ! How can this be ? from two of the highest level staff !! .How can a LOC (line of credit) be secured as we were repeatedly told for over 18 months by these people above preventing us from selling our home and then its NOT secured !. Had we been told the truth that the LOC was NOT secured we could have sold and carried on dealing with the LOC issue through a lawyer rather than be continuously told if we sell our house the LOC had to paid down as its a secured obligation that we know now was wrongful and misleading.This matter is being investigated further by other regulators and the FCAC (The Financial Consumer Agency Of Canada) and also the OBSI are reopening their initial investigation to look at the lies / wrongful information that was forwarded to the investigator. Please take care with this bank as they will give wrongful information to cover mistakes at your cost !!!.

I had great service here when I needed them to verify some transactions, I went to the branch for three different inquiries on three different occasions and the staff were really friendly and helpful. They even let me know about free parking in the building. Then on another occasion offered to call me when they finished processing the information they needed so I wouldn't have to wait around, I left thinking it would take over an hour, they managed to get everything done and call me back within 10 minutes. Having interest in opening an account with HSBC, I accompanied my friend who was seeking to open an account of his own just around 4pm on Tuesday January 22. Upon entry, we quickly realized the shortage of staff, as there was no receptionist at the front desk to help direct us. We then walked over to the counter to meet with the one teller lady on duty. After going over what documents were required, the teller made it seem that in order to proceed, my friend would need a minimum of $5000 to $10000 to open one of two account types available. He had to ask if there were any other accounts he could open to learn that he didn't have to have that minimum balance. We looked at each other pondering if the lady was on something. Furthermore, she declined helping him open an account in our first experience with HSBC, citing that an appointment needed to be made, despite the location not being busy at all. They had an hour to go and they still refused. My friend asked if there were any other locations and the lady instructed him to look it up on his phone instead of professionally searching on her computer to let him know. I will never do any busy with this location. They put a sour taste in my mouth for HSBC. It felt like all they wanted to do was get us out so they could close up. Now I see why their rating is horrible and will only deteriorate.

I was very reluctant to go to HSBC based on all the bad reviews I read about them but after speaking to someone at the branch who seemed eager to prove the bad reviews were wrong I decided to give them a chance. Honestly turned out to be the worst experience in dealing with a bank i have ever had. I wasted 2 entire months sending them document after document after document and every document was never enough. They just kept asking for more documents. I gave them more documents then I have ever had to give any bank before only for them to say all the documents weren't enough. Almost all communication was done through email even though I would call to talk to them in person. It was a complete and utter waste of time and a total joke. I was shocked to my bones to see a bank behave so rudely to an elderly client. This middle aged Chinese teller was shouting at the elderly man who was trying to open a new account, I think. And he happened to be of African descent. It was obvious she was reacting to his race, and to false assumption related to drug money - He only said politely he had cash in his hand, which doesn't make it illegal, or drug money! Signed up for mortgage, banker promised everything was sorted , as I was not going to be in town for closing. I asked if a power of attorney would be required for signing in my absence and he assured me it was not needed and everything was taken care of. Prior to arriving at this location I decided to read the google reviews on this specific location since I am a first time customer and also because it is the closest to my home and work. After reading numerous negative reviews I decided to give this location a chance and a possible hope of a good experience and also a positive review. Unfortunately as I just entered the location before 4:00 pm on a Tuesday in hopes to open an account. There was no one at the front reception desk to assist on where to go even though there was only one customer in sight and also it wasn't busy at all. After a long wait I decided to approach the tellers since there was no line up and a teller lady with one customer. After a long wait I asked the lady at the teller I'm here to here to open an account. She replied which one did you want? There is one with a minium of $5000 balance or one with a minimum of $10,000 balance. In shock of her response I asked her is there any other accounts that don't require a minium balance. She said yes there is. It was a overall a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience since I spoke with her and the branch manager on possibly opening a new account with a hour remaining and since it's not that busy. After an offer of setting up an appointment I responded no thank you I will be choosing a different location since this location has a accurate 2.9 overall review rating and seems it's most likely going to get worse if this type of service continues.

I understand this is COVID and we're limited on what we can accomplish in person; however I question the communication skills this branch possess when they instruct a customer on the phone to come into the branch live - only to then tell the live in branch customer about a necessary online application and live branch service is by appointment only. Seems this could have been communicated on the phone saving a customer valuable resources and frustrations. Pros: The best lending rates in the country. The ability to smile while completely disregarding another human's time. Cons: An inability to express current protocols to customers. Complete lack of parking. Inaccessible location. Any assemblage of customer service.

Had a first time meeting with my premier relationship manager, Anna, everything I needed to know was answered in a friendly ,professional manner. She showed a lot of patience with my ill informed questions! Had dealings with other staff members also, all good. Wasn't impressed with the service today. Completed credit card application online, at the end it told me I had to go into a branch to show ID to finish application off and note online said I needed appointment. Contacted the 1800 # provided to book appointment in New West, was told on the phone it was not required for credit card all they need to do was stop by branch with reference # and ID. I did this in New West, upon entering I was told I needed an appointment, I explained what phone agent said. Teller went to talk to someone, I could somewhat hear the conversation and the person he needs an appointment. She comes back and tells me. I ask why do you need appointment to show ID? She then talks to supervisor and he says he needs appointment, again she tells me this and I will have to comeback another day. I tell her I would not have come if I was not told it was ok, she said nothing she can do but book an appointment and I can return. I said if all they need to do is see my ID, she can copy it and give it to them later to verify, she said she cannot. Clearly this appointment is more than seeing my ID, suspect its for a sales pitch beyond the credit card. I can understand that a bit, but to waste a customers time after they were given wrong info seem ridiculous. There were at least two more senior people, both in offices that could have put the customer first and validated my ID. I would never move my business based on this experience and now I am rethinking the credit card.

I've haven't been able to solve a banking issue for almost 2 weeks now. It may be partly my fault that I haven't logged onto my account for years, but my accounts should all be readily available when I do eventually log on, riiiight?! Which is where the problem and my frustration started. After trying phone banking, bank branch, online banking, back to bank branch, I couldn't get what I was looking for. I decided to try this branch and TA-DA! They solved my problem! WOW! Finally people who know what I need and how to get it done and done efficiently! Thank you to the teller who helped me. I forgot his name now, but he's only been there for 4 months. I'd also like to thank the manager, Sam. He's a very efficient problem solver. I'm actually quite surprised to see such a low rating for this branch, but this is the only branch I'll go to if I have HSBC banking to do. I really can't say the same for the other HSBC branch I visited....sigh.

Me and my grandmother opened joined account with HSBC Canada, because my grandmother decided to move back to Europe after complicated back surgery, to reunite with rest of the family and hsbc looked like best choice. However because we didn't changed new address in UK, account got suspended because of suspicious activity. I managed to arrange and do id check in uk hsbc branch more than a month ago, but nothing but silence since then. Whenever I ring customer service, I get connected with artificial intelligence, which can't even confirn if Canadian branch have received documents. So I'm extremely concerned and don't know what to do. To go back to Canada and do id check in person will cost 800 cad plus hotel, plus the long journey....

I have been with HSBC since 1994 and have in past been extremely happy. Since the closures of the Langford and Gateway Village branches I am now dissatisfied. The branch at Uptown is less than adequate. Lac of parking and no drive through ATM. Very disappointed in HSBC's decision to close Langford and relocate Gateway Village branches. Not so happy any more.

Tried opening a student chequing account online. Despite providing my student ID and all pertinent information it wouldn't let me and asked me to come into the branch. After waiting a good 20 minutes due to their understaffing, I presented my student ID and driver's license. I was told that they needed to book me in for another appointment on a different day and refused to accept what I was providing them. All this hassle just to open a student account! Save your time and try a different bank.

Poor client service. Agents are not proactive. I had an appointment and was there 20 mins before. I went to the counter agent and ask for the person who I had an appointment with. She got my info and ask me to wait. So, I wait again then finally a guy approach me and ask who am I waiting for. I told him who and he told me that the person called off for the day because he was sick. I would really appreciate it, if they told me ahead of time that he wasn't there...they could have called me on the phone to cancel so I wouldn't have wasted my time to go there for nothing.

Im power of attorney for my Grandmother this bank has the proper documents yet if I call the help line they have no record of me and can not fix the problem I have. My Grandmother has a savings account that we wanted to use for nursing home but because according them it wasn't being used they deactivated it. Now a week later still have no access. Rude, snotty Manager. I decided to close my account, the manager did so, and informed me that I owed $100 on my HSBC Mastercard. I did not use my card at all. When I I tried to cancel my Mastercard the phone reps ( in the Philippines) continually hung up on me, finally I got a representative who informed me that my HSBC Mastercard was in collections. I have had a Mastercard for decades (Not with HSBC). HSBC is bullying me and trying to ruin my credit.

They took weeks to get the application done & submitted, promising through the process that they would honour the rate I signed up for. Since they moved at their current location, the service has been dismal. Just yesterday, trying to avoid the lineup I wanted to deposit $$ using the ATM. Both machines were not accepting deposits. We are seriously considering closing our accounts there. There are only 2 tellers now and often times, only one of them is available for service despite the line ups that are often seen there. There is a note on the desk asking for imput to improve customer service. It seems obvious that, when you have people in the Bank, both tellers should be available. A third teller would also help a great deal. Often times, there are 8 people waiting to be served and only one teller is open. If they are sincere in wanting to improve service, the obvious of having both tellers available as long as there are people in the branch.

Bank may look nice but the staff barely has a grasp on common sense. We came in to open a joint and personal account while they had a cash promo for new clients who open a personal checking account. We specified that we came because of said promo. Long story short, the genius that helped us opened our joint account first then we were told we no longer qualify for the promo since we already had a joint account with HSBC and wouldn't be considered a "new client." Whether it's indivudal stupidity or just how they scam customers, who knows. But after months of trying to escalate the matter, talking to agents who promised us they would "rectify the situation," nothing ever came of it.

The measure of any bank comes when a customer /a"premier bank customer" in this case, asks to speak to the bank manager : an aspect of the service etc. In 10 yrs I have asked to speak to the manager ...twice and both times been fobbed off with excuses; not in ; not available.Not in at 11:00 on a weekday. Disgusting branch. Kills completely entire reputation of the HSBC Bank in general. Every time when I come there - I have trouble. After activation of my USD account (recently) I asked them to confirm my USD account details and I received details of my account and swift code 3 times each visit and every time - different ones. Looks like they really do not know their job or do it with the purpose. They do not keep their promise to award. And every time - 'I am so sorry!" "I am so sorry!" "I am soooo sooorrrryyyy!" What will I do with that sorry?? I am about to close my account in couple of weeks because I got wrong information from them 3 times and only 1 times was enough not to receive wire transfer from overseas for huge amount because of the SWIFT CODE mistake. Whole week I had headache with not receiving money I need and probably I will open USD account across the street at TD Bank which looks normal... And I am not going to deal with what HSBC Bank at all. I do not recommend to deal with them. Stay away from the problem, especially with international banking. There are 3-4 banks in that area, like RBC, Scotia Bank, TD Canada Trust Bank, Bank of Montreal, so - go there... Grade of functioning of this branch of HSBC is below ZERO, so I never go to any branch of HSBC anymore. Not even a 1 star. Below ZERO. Well... Bad experience is also experience. I had superbad experience with them...

Got a replacement debit card and they didn't activate it. It was a new card new number etc. So when I called the branch phone number, same story as previous post.I eventually found 2 numbers, one didn't work. Next one did and the rep basically said that it was my fault. Now I have to drive 90 kms again to activate it. I should have got a new card in the mail. I will probably close the account

I have been a loyal premier account customer for over 17 years. The service since Tina retired is terrible. I have tried to communicate with Nadine, Rasha and Kosta to no avail. They do not answer their phones or respond to emails. I am looking for a new bank as they lost their employees who were keeping this bank together and are currently running around like chickens with their heads cut off. HSBC bank has the worst processes of helping customers. It feels like they do not try to help, they just there to repeat the same information over and over. I have being loyal customer for over 20 years and now i am trying ordering the checks. My nightmare took me through 6 people and more than 3.5 hours of talking to the wall ( customer service representatives) my problem still not resolved. You would think how hard to order the check book form the bank. IN POSSIBLE!!! It is very sad to see some simple thing could cost so much aggravation. Perfect experience...Firstly I walked into a smiley teller and asked to see advisor referred me to someone in investments. In 1 hour appointment with a gentleman called Youssef I have made my mind to switch banks.. approachable personnel , energetic and makes me laugh all the time, he showed me a variety of investment options and made my life easier through all his investment knowledge. Staff are nice but only 2 counters so really long line ups. Additional staff in their offices on computers but doesn't help the in store customer - perhaps give them the option to help counter customers at the busiest times. I'm a Premier customer and no obvious option to speak with a premier representative without booking ahead either. Come on HSBC - help your branches and their customers out....your staff are doing their best but you've got to provide them with the infrastructure to help their customers. To reiterate - Staff are always really kind and helpful.

I've always found the staff to be very helpfully and extremely pleasant. Perhaps the writers of poor reviews complaining about poor service go into the branch with a Poor Attitude, treat people right and you get treated right. My parent is recently widowed. HSBC Nanaimo made my parent get a new account. Now because my parent has a new account, they are no longer grandfathered certain benefits from their previous long-term account. HSBC in Prince George is the worst branch of all. No one picks up the hotline phone no matter what time of day you call. This is not a busy branch as there are very few people in Prince George. It is closed on Saturday, the reason because it isn't busy. But no one will answer the phone, no one will reply to e-mails. The manager of the branch will only have her answering machine on and will not return phone calls. I believe there should be a zero star rating for businesses like these so others can see how horrid they truly are. When I first set up my account with HSBC, it took 7 months for them to set it up properly in 2013/2014. I didn't have a choice because it is a group plan through my employer. Then, they spelled my name incorrectly. That took over a year to fix. Since then, I've made two withdrawals, and had to show my ID each time I did. On January 2, 2019, I arrived at the branch to make a withdrawal from my account. After standing in line for 20 minutes to see one of the two tellers, I was told there was nobody on staff to help me, and I would have to call telefund. I called telefund, and was on hold for 40 minutes, before I was told that my birthday was incorrect on my account (and had been since 2013) and that my funds were being frozen. I would have to go back to the bank in order to unfreeze them and complete my transaction. How could I have made those other two withdrawals with an incorrect date of birthday on my ID / account? The next day, I went back in and processed the transaction. On January 3. It is now January 10 and I called in and was told I won't see my money until at least January 14 (via direct deposit from their account to my account at my personal bank, no waiting for a cheque in the mail). I asked why it will take so long and they said that in November they "upgraded" from a system that took 2 business days to one that takes 6 business days. That is not an upgrade. Also January 3 - 14 is 11 actual days, 4 of which are weekend days, making it 7 business days. All I'm trying to do is get MY money (less than $2k) out of their clutches so I can invest it myself through my own bank, because I have 0% faith in this institution. **UPDATE - an hour after I posted this, HSBC called to tell me my personal bank account number was invalid (I literally held up my phone with my bank app open and she copied the number down by hand from the bank app) and they now have to issue the payment by cheque from their Vancouver office. So who knows when it will get here.

the worst experience ever, i am loyal customer since 12 yrs as Premier account. i got an appointment with Nadine, 1 hr before she called and cancelled and promised to call back, off course nothing happened,i called back the customer service and they said they escalated to the manager and they will call within 48 hours, :D it is been 2 weeks so far, i cant believe i spent all this effort just trying to get an appointment. HORRID banking practices. Your putting a hold on a certified cheque, really? Ok you need to call the bank and verify and that is it. But a hold! , and rude. I have gone into this bank several times. I originally opened a Euro account was NOT worth dealing the very rude staff act like sullen teenagers, like I was bothering them just being there. This branch advertises 24 hour ATM banking in large letters on the front of the building but they close the ATM door in the evening at random times to stop homeless people from sleeping there. If you're going to close the ATM, stop advertising 24 hour service and be clear with customers. I went into this branch last year to talk to them about this issue and so far no action. Other banks found a solution to the homeless people problem years ago, which is to have a card swipe unlock for the door so only customers can enter. Idea: invest in one of those and stop making life difficult for your customers.

I've had a horrible experience in dealing with their Sr. relationship manager - Amal Youakim for a mortgage. I truly believe she has no idea what she's doing and will send you in a million different directions. She sent me a list of documents she needs. When I sent her everything back she scheduled an in person meeting with me. When I got to the branch, she informed me some documents were missing and she can't process my file yet. Not sure why she couldn't tell me this via email or the phone. When I got her the additional documents she asked for, she was always out of the office. When she finally returned, she told me she was too busy to process my papers and I would need to wait another month. I think she's very lazy, lacks common sense and competence for her role, and if she feels she can't make a $ off you she won't help. I get better service at a Tim's drive through.

Worse service I ever experience I went there to apply for credit card the lady on the phone told me that I needed only 1 piece of identification with photo which I brought. When I arrive there the lady at the counter was rude and ask me for many document and got displease and ask her to cancel everything. I wanted to start a relation ship with HSBC because I could move some of my asset there to become a premier member because I have a business in Asia and could transfer found more easily but now I feel I never want to go back to this branch. I also remember going there 5 year ago when I started before going to Asia for the first time to open a bank account to make transfer easy and the service was so bad I decided to stick to RBC and TD even if not perfect is much better then this place.

I find that there is a problem with the management there. A few times I've been in I witnessed managers yelling at staff in front of customers. Quite unprofessional and I can only imagine why there has been so much turnover and long wait times due to staffing issues. No one wants to work in a toxic environment and customers don't want to suffer the consequences. I'm not sure how it is like now as I stopped going to that location a while ago but where I am banking now is much better so I thought I would leave a review to help change the abusive behavior that has inconvenienced me and many other customers. I have bank accounts with HSBC and other banks too and I also been to different HSBC branches. I think this branch is the most efficient branch. I came in for the investment advice. I stood in the line and soon enough one of the guys from the office came out and greeted me and directed me to the account manager named Edward. He was really polite and helpful. He listened to what I wanted to do and what is my goal that I would like to achieve then he tailored a financial plan for me. Not like other account managers I dealt with before they just try to get me invested in what they think is good. He asked me for my opinions after he explained it to me. I had a really great experience at this branch and will transfer my other investment from other banks to him to manage too. It is hard to find someone you can trust with your money these days and I am lucky enough to find this Edward guy. If you have the same concerns as me go talk to him then you know what I am talking about. It is a really clean branch and staff are polite and nice.

My 90 years old father just want to renew the GIC. The staff said my father's ID is expired and need to bring a valid photo ID, since my father is no longer driving, they ask my father to bring the citizenship card in order to renew the GIC. Ok, then on the following week, I bought my father again to this branch with the valid photo ID. This time the staff said since the finance advisor is out, I need to bring my father again next time in order to renew. I was really upset since my father almost fall down outside of their parking lot and it really doesn't make sense for him to come back third time just to renew the GIC. After I argued with them, they finally find some other finance advisor to renew the GIC for my father. This is the worse customer service I ever experienced in Canada. I really think that they don't want any business with customer. Definitely not recommend HSBC.

Weakest bank in Red Deer and maybe in Canada in terms of services, other banks in Red Deer have at least 3 branches while HSBC has only 1 branch that works only few hours a week. I’m having the worst experience ever with this branch! The ATM machine simply disappeared with my 2 thousand dollars deposit! Nobody knows where is my money! Nobody really cares since I don’t speak French I guess! They asked me to wait 8 weeks for the investigation period! The branch manager is really someone, who is a greedy women. All she does is tries scam people. She insisted my friend to provide her information over the phone, her SIN and Her DRL, said she will create her profile and pull her credit, where my friend didn’t even sign the consent form. Beware people, unless you have signed no one should pull your credit. My friend was trying to get a mortgage. This could have screwed her over!!!! That branch manager doesn’t has any knowledge and should retire.

Horrible Bank. Stay away. Can't call your Branch directly, calls get re-rooted to HSBC General Line...and sometimes the call doesn't even get through, it just stays suspended, no sound, nothing! Can't understand most of the people at the call centre (very thick accents) and it takes an eternity to get an appointment (and one appointment is often not enough to amend the situation). I wouldn't even give it one star, but I have to in order to post this review.

Don't waste your time at this branch if you want to get a mortgage. The branch manager Patrick is polite but they cannot deliver any sort of customer service at all, and it seems that they are full of apologies. They are slow to return emails/calls if they do it at all. The agent I was assigned didn't speak English that well. Overall it's been painful experience in what is supposed to be a simple process. Just updating me on my mortgage progress through email would have gone a long way, but I am completely in the dark. As stressful as the housing market is, you shouldn't feel the extra stress of not knowing how your mortgage application is going. I would recommend a broker that is focused on you and inspires confidence, rather than this branch.

Worst service ever. If your mortgage is due on the 15th, sometimes they don't take your payment until the 17th or 18th so you pay more interest. This is done by design., or they'll take the service charges before your Mortgage, and bounce your Mortgage payment by 5 dollars. It's unbelievable.

Walked in to this branch as its open Sat since I work long hours during the week. I asked teller about opening an account as I wanted to take advantage of a savings account interest special. I was told I would have to open an account on line first, and than have an appointment to see someone. I said fine. I asked about an appointment Monday for which I was told oh no it's about 3 weeks to get an appointment. When I protested, as the special ends Dec 16 the teller asked what amount I wanted to deposit. When I replied , I was told just a min. He came back and said my colleague is with a client can you wait ? No problem I said . 10 min later a guy walks to the teller , teller comes back and tells me he has another appointment in 10 min. I got upset and and told him why than did you make me wait ? I would like to go in. It should not take more than 15 min to open an account. He than told me to open an account takes a minimum of 1 hour . At that point I had enough and told him ,since I walked in you made every effort to make sure that I don't become a client here. His efforts I must say were successful. If HSBC is the last bank I will keep my money under my mattress.

Banking with HSBC is somewhat complicated: their app is old, ebanking freezes randomly. At least their good credit cards and sign up bonuses compensate for that. Shameful institution closing my account because they found it suspicious that I used my card to pay for goods that I purchased at the duty free store. The closing of the account and withdrawal of my funds took excessively long. Had an impression that they are actually trying to scramble all the money they had at the branch to pay me off the 3k I had in my bank account. After finally paying it to me, the system could not finalize it! Anything simply not to pay you. Moral of the story, don't open an bank account at banks with funny names and no retail presence.

(Translated) I applied for a credit card by Internet, I am given a confirmation # and a message that an email will be sent to me to confirm my request and that I should have news within 2 to 3 weeks . 2 weeks later, still no email received, also no news from them, however a hit was made to my credit report by HSBC. (well then) I decide to call to see what is going on with my request. I am confirmed that a basic customer # has been created for me, but that no credit card application is there. I am told that I should go to the branch in order to reapply with a counselor. (Which will involve another hit at the credit bureau). In short, a very disappointing first experience with HSBC. After doing some research, I am clearly not the first who has problems with this bank. In short, I do not recommend at all. (Original) J'ai fait une demande de carte de crédit par Internet, on me donne un # de confirmation ainsi qu'une mension qu'un courriel me sera envoyé pour confirmer ma demande et que je devrais avoir des nouvelles d'ici 2 à 3 semaines. 2 semaines plus tard, toujours aucun courriel reçu, sans nouvelle également de leur part, par contre un hit à été fait à mon dossier de crédit par la HSBC. (eh ben) Je décide d'appeler pour voir ce qui se passe avec ma demande. On me confirme qu'un # de client de base m'a été créé, mais qu'aucune demande de carte de crédit s'y trouve. On me dit que je devrais passer en sucursale afin de refaire une demande avec un conseiller. (Ce qui impliquera un autre hit au bureau de crédit). Bref, une première expérience très décevante avec la HSBC. Après avoir fait quelques recherches, je ne suis clairement pas le premier qui a des difficultés avec cette banque. Bref, je ne recommande pas du tout.

I meant to withdraw cash from ATM with my debit card but I took the credit card instead. I had to go to the counter to make a payment into my credit card to offset the cash advance. The teller Ian Li listened attentively and helped me to make a transaction promptly, and he made sure the info he provided was correct . Thank you Ian! These five stars are for you!

I wish there is a option to give them zero. The worst Banking experience I had with this Bank. They treat you like criminal. Harassing you every time you deposit or withdraw your money. They will make you feel like your money is not your money.Like to stole your own money. Poor and very unfriendly customer service. If you looking for good service and avoid bad experience, stay away from this Bank

tried to open a premier bank account (no credit application) with a lady that does not understand or speak english, misunderstood our conversation and twisted it into a completely different thing, if you do try and open an account at this branch please do not ask any questions because they will be twisted and turned into something completely different..... if you have any questions about their banking call the 1800 number instead. I would expect the would be "HSBC Premier Relationship Manager" to be at least fluent in English and understand that people ask questions....

Very bad experience many times, I can not reach branch bank directly. They caked me either make an appointment for me or wait until branch office call me. Either way can not match my urgent need and can not offer competition service from other Bank.

All they do is sell you mutual funds. Yet they only have poor performing funds. Horrible service, says no to everything and redirects you to telephone banking for everything.
