(2017) Fantastic helpful staff! They had good information about lovely trips (like Johnston Canyon). It's situated inside the (old?) train station. There are lovely old pictures from past times.

The people working there were super nice, but they assumed that we were tourists that just wanted to see what was in town. The truth is, people go to Banff to see the park, not the town. That being said, the parts of town that they told us to see were nice!

The staff here was very helpful, but for someone driving though, there was no place to park. The whole town was full of circling cars looking for a parking spot. Grab a parking spot anywhere you can, as far out as you have to and walk here. Then get out of downtown Banff as fast as possible and back into the wilderness.

Easier parking and you were able to get information with a number of the park officials for orientation of your activities. Also you can leave your vehicle here and walk right into town it's so close. This is recommended in the summer as there is a lot of traffic.
