I stopped going anywhere else for food in White Rock... cuz I have never had a bad meal at Islands Cafe | White Rock | Hawaiian Coffee, Poke, and Acai Bowls and it is the best place hands down in White Rock. These guys care about their food and source local free range organic meats. The beer list is off the handle and don't get me started on the bourbon sours! Like I said I've had nothing but the best experience dining there!

Original review: I would love to love Island Cafe, as a local business with a cool Aloha vibe. But honestly, $3.95 for a tablespoon-sized protein ball is ridiculous. Expensive and the quantities are small. Poke bowls are basically rice with a bit of meat in them. You'd pay 60$ for 10$-20$ worth of food. If you're an islander, you'll be disappointed in the quantities.

I absolutely loved the atmoshphere of Islands Cafe the moment I entered it. I never frequented the shop that was in it before but what they've done to this place is amazing! I was reminded of lazy days at the beach, nights at a tiki bar, and Hawaiian vacations. What's more, the food selection is healthy and creative! My favourite is the açai bowl and chocolate coconut cookie. Thank you for this little slice of tropical paradise, I will definitely be back!

YUMMMY! Islands Cafe is delicious and has laser focus on it's products. If you are looking for a full on menu with lots of options, this isn't the place for you BUT if you are looking for healthy options that are also incredibly delicious, you'll probably love it here. They have an acai bowl to die for - it's quite substantial - a smoothie bowl with fresh coconut, blueberries, banana, and granola. They also have a tuna poke bowl that I haven't been able to try as of yet. Crossing my fingers I will try it this week. I was going to give them four stars because of the lack of options but honestly, their food is so good and they advertise exactly what it is they're selling so they got the big 5! We mustn't forget coffee - they also slam it home with great hawaiian coffee. The vibe is quite hip, surfboards on the wall and throughout, very chill and beachy feeling.

Great coffee, great food, great place for meeting up with friends. The music could be a little quieter but that's my only complaint. If you can, grab a seat outside and sip your palm tree latte in the sunshine as you people watch with your best friend! I highly recommend the palm tree latte for coffee drinks- it's lightly sweet with a nutty flavour to it, blends nicely with the steamed milk and espresso. They do cute latte art as well! If you've been to Hawaii you've probably tried some form of macadamia nut latte or whatever so this latte will bring you back! The acai bowls are $10.50, not my ideal price but they are so worth it! Everything is fresh and you get a big helping so it's well worth your money. Free WiFi, outlets for computers, desks too, couches, this place is also ideal for doing work as I see a lot of customers come here to do! A must-visit cafe for anyone visiting White Rock :)

Lots of seating so you can spread out. Great for groups. Good coffee which is the most important. Could use better bakery goods however. $3.65 for a poor Starbucks quality muffin that looks like it came from a grocery store bulk bakery package? No thanks. Breakfast sandwich and coffee combo seems like a good deal. Will be back to try that. It's 9:20am on a Friday morning and there is a really nice community, hangout feel here. Good overall but Bean Around The World for me has the slight edge.

As much as I love their acai bowls and coffee, the service tends to be cold and careless. I've had two fantastic baristas/servers, I'm always relieved when I see one of them. Very nice atmosphere and espresso is great. My wife and I have had around 6 acai bowls over a few months hoping they would get it 100% right at one point but they still need improvement. It's simple: stop making your acai puree so thick and full of massive frozen chunks... Take some extra time and effort to perfect a cool, smooth, delicate puree not a frozen mind numbing chunk of ice. We'll be in next week to try again...fingers crossed. All else is great about this friendly little cafe!

Husband grew up in South Surrey/White Rock and was absolutely thrilled with a Hawaiian themed café being in the area. The poke bowl with avocado was fantastic, albeit very, very salty - granted, we were there at 3:30pm on a Sunday, so the tuna in the lower part of the storage bowl was probably marinating all day in the strong shoyu base. Our own fault for getting there so late in the day. The flavours were still great though, reminded me of our past vacations to Maui. :) Will definitely be back another day, hopefully earlier lol. Excellent service, by the way. Also, I agree with a previous poster - many poke places in Vancouver but they just don't get it right. Don't try the trendy 'fusion' approach that so many other places take; I'm sure more people appreciate the authentic recipes more. At least this person does. Keep up with what you've been doing! :) Mahalo!

If you can't fly to Hawaii for the afternoon, drop by this place. It looks like they are one of the first shops in Vancouver to serve poke. I'm glad they are so close.

This place is really cute and the drinks were good. But holy smokes the barista who took my friend and I's order couldn't have been any more rude and aggressive! I've never felt that uncomfortable ordering food before. When our order was ready it was called out in a way that my friend and I should have been already full-out sprinting towards it. This cafe has a nice cozy atmosphere and unlike most cafes in the area actually is open on Sundays. They have some good food but the service can be very slow and the coffee has a tendency to be too hot. Milk is over steamed and over mixed resulting in a more classic cappuccino foam for all drinks rather than a sweeter more sought after latte foam you see around the city.

Islands Cafe is on trend with their poke and acai bowls. Both are priced fairly, and are a fairly large serving size. They also have a wide espresso beverage menu that includes some Hawaiian themed originals. They also have an assortment of teas, and wide selection of non caffeinated options.

Routinely before I have a sit down study session at home, I make it a point to walk down here for a coffee/tea latte. Super motivating and refreshing! Their stuff is fresh, comfortable space, great vibes and kind staff. I do wish they required customers to wear masks though; I often feel like the only one wearing one in the café and sometimes I decide to go home since too many people are not wearing masks or social distancing. Other than that, this place is fantastic.

I tried the North Shore Acai Bowl for the first time and it definitely tastes as good as it looks! It came exactly as advertised: topped with granola, coconut, honey, sliced bananas and strawberries. The staff were kind and welcoming to me and each customer that came in after. I will be back!

We bought the Ukulele coffee beans to be able to enjoy ourselves. Next time we are out for a ride and head into Whiterock, we are planning on sampling their sandwiches or flatbread. Decided to check out this coffee shop for the first time 2 weeks ago since my hubby & I are big fans of Hawaiian coffee. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the best first impression. The coffee tasted very watered down and I have my coffee black so I know. However, we liked that they sold vegan and gluten free pastries. We decided to share a vg & gf chocolate oat bar and it wasn’t too bad. Hopefully, if we decide to give this place another chance we will have a better experience with the coffee.

I come a good long way out of my way to try their poke. Three times. I've even called ahead before to make sure they have it. Ever single time I get there, they are out. The excuse: it's a popular item and we only make so much of it ever day. Well then, if you keep running out, shouldn't you make more? I've heard this place is really good but it's hard to like wasting gas and eating air. Don't go out of your way to come here since they can't get their supply right.

The best place to grab coffee and a breakfast. I'm from out of town but stayed in White Rock during the summer, and still cannot find a cafe like this in my city. The espresso beans and acai bowls are equally delicious, and the atmosphere is amazing. Such an island/tropical vibe with the music, decor, and open doors allowing fresh air in. The staff were also friendly and hard-working. I recommended this place to everyone I came across during my stay.

I use the mobile app to order. Takes 10 minutes to get to the Johnson street location. My order wasn’t ready when I arrived. The staff were more interested in talking to each other than working. When asked about my order I was advised there were issues with the app. Yet the cup with my drink order was beside the coffee machine...I was advised they were behind as someone had called in sick...as a customer that isn’t my problem yet it had become the excuse...I mentioned I placed the order ten minutes prior...again I was advised someone had called in sick yet the person who arrived just before me wasn’t asked to wait, their order was processed. I was asked to wait ten minutes for mine and asked if that was ok. There is a reason I use the app...no I advised it wasn’t ok. I asked for my $12 back. To which I was advised they couldn’t do refunds on the app. I was advised they would write a note advising of the situation so my next order would be free...how fantastic when I always order through the app...as the $12 was lost to me anyways I advised them to keep the money as I didn’t have the time to wait and left. Bottom line my order wasn’t put in the line to be processed it had simply been ignored to serve those customers in front of them...lying about the app not working yet the evidence it was right in front of me shows lack of integrity...not able to do refunds on the app, why have one then...I appreciate fully an engaging workplace yet when working admittedly short staffed focus more on your customers and not on what you did last night...

The Islands Cafe is a great place to stop in for a coffee and a bite to eat. The coffee here is excellent and the food is up to par as well. I found the marinade in the poke bowl to be a bit too salty but I still really enjoyed it. Great small business alternative to big chain coffee stores!

Terrible Terrible Service. Nothing was prepared. We came in and they said it would be 10-15 for an Acai bowl. We ended up waiting 50 minutes to get an Acai bowl, however that never happened. Their blender broke and never told us as we sat there waiting for our Acai bowl. They never told their 3 customers who were waiting almost an hour, instead we overheard them talking about amongst themselves. Meanwhile 2 couples walked out because their food never came either. Pathetic service.

I expected more from this place and was disappointed with the food. I ordered matcha late (had to pay extra for a non-dairy milk) and poke bowl, which was simply 1.5cup of rice and marinated tuna with ginger and onion (no veggies included and had to pay extra for half of an avocado) and my boyfriend got a latte and veggie dakine. I cannot say that food was terrible but, for the price, it wasn't great ether. My bf and I kept talking about what we would change in our meals. Probably I wouldn't go there next time, there are plenty of other great placed in the area for a better price.

I feel guilty with this review because I wanted so so badly to love this place. But I don't. Love the owners and the style, but I am consistently disappointed by food, service, and price. I've had the wrong order, a bad order, or just something gross and watered down too many times to count. Great location and idea but it just needs some higher quality staff who are maybe a little more confident and comfortable with food and drink prep. For the prices I would expect each order to be prepared quickly, efficiently and properly.

Honestly this is for the new location in Grandview corners. I ordered a drink and a treat and stood there waiting no line no one was coming in for 15 minutes. It was I between my clients so I had 20 minute break. It was a waste of time and when I finally had my food it was bland and my drink tasted like water. Won’t be back.

Good set-up and great location. Price are high for what it is on most food items, don't expect much from the poke over priced for sure for what it is. Breakfast sandwiches are really good with a decent price on them. If you are ordering food or drinks be prepared to wait, they take forever to get your order to you mostly due to the staff chatting with each other and not really caring too much about the customers.

I visited this location several days ago and left feeling dissatisfied and slightly disrespected. First, the cafe was extremely busy. Meaning, no covid guidelines were being enforced. Not a single person in the store was wearing a mask, including the workers and there was no social distancing being practiced at all. An establishment being this lenient during a pandemic is just so ignorant and irresponsible. Second, I was constantly being disregarded by the workers. They would ignore me trying to get their attention, break eye contact to avoid me, then to go service other customers instead. Lastly, when I received my drink, I wasn't given a lid, a straw, or any milk in my drink (which is supposed to come with the drink). But when I saw the customer behind me, she was given all of the above and was served with a smile even though we had ordered the same exact drink. I'm not sure what the issue was or why my experience was so awful, but I have a feeling it was because I was the only POC in the cafe filled with white people, including the workers. I felt a twinge of discrimination as all the non-POCs were being treated with such good customer service while there was such a blatant contrast in how I was being treated.

Buy a bathroom door lock instead of just putting a post it with odd locking instructions. Staff cant make change. Stopped the dishwasher mid cycle to pull out the scoops to make my poke - the girl who pulled them out said to the other girl 'just rinse them' Odd shop, slow staff (even for a new cafe) If you want to checkout how they handle negative feedback check out the review thread on facebook. Since posting my 1 star review I have recieved nasty comments, name calling and VERY rude private messages from people claiming to be associated with this cafe. All they needed to do was simply post 'hey we are sorry thanks for the feedback' or sent a private message but instead they carried on,allowed the staff member to post and even had someone claiming to be one of the owners parents send messages and write posts on the thread. Aside from the garbage customer service in my opinion the poke is slimy, over sauced and gross. Save yourself the trip and hassel of trying to find parking you wont be missing anything.

RATING: 0 This USED to be my "go to" coffee shop but NO MORE. Here's why... I was sitting at a table by myself, working on my laptop. After about 1.5 hours an employee came and sprayed bleach at my table while I was sitting there - just under the ceiling fan. I had no warning. I immediately felt sick and asked her to stop. She told me to get used to it bc I would have to deal with it wherever I go now. She kept spraying. I went into a full asthma attack and ended up in Emergency twice. They also told me to put on a mask or get out bc I was alarming other customers. I asked to speak to the owner. The girl gave me a card and when I called the number, it was to the cafe I was sitting in. The girls started laughing. I asked if they thought this was funny and she told me that they weren't laughing at me - they were just laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation. I emailed the owner but I have heard nothing back. I understand sanitation procedures have increased, but spraying bleach right in front of someone is unacceptable. It is chemical assault which has led to chemical injury. I am still very I'll at this time, and have been left with a vocal cord injury to the point of not being able to use my voice. I am seeking legal action at this time. At no time did any of the staff show any regard for what I was going through. In fact, when I left, the short blond-haired girl told me to never come back. On another note, when my bagel was served, it was not split on the line. Rather, it was cut to the point where the bottom half, of part the bagel, was just dried out crust. Further to this, a woman came in and sat at the table behind me. That left us about 2 feet apart - max. I had to ask the staff to socially distance her. They have to spray bleach, she said, or the cafe would be shut down. She wasn't at all concerned that their social distancing requirement was not being monitored. I'm appalled at the behaviour of the staff and the unwillingness of the owner to contact me. I felt targeted, disrespected, and bullied. I will add in discrimination as well as she did not spray any other table with people sitting there.

The negative review comes from months of me coming here and observing the exceptional customer service EXCEPT for coloured folks. Please educate your staff. Please ask them to change their attitude and expose them to different cultures. Its disgusting watching their demeanour change. I do not know her name but she is there all the time.. petite girl very long blonde hair. Please help her. She might get away with it in a predominantly white community but please don’t make her the face of your otherwise amazing cafe.

I like the concept, design. Poke bowls were pretty lacklustre given the price and other comparables elsewhere in the lower mainland. Not sure why they wouldn't remove the skin off the avocado, given that it's an add-on. Likewise for the kiwi in the acai bowls.

The cafe needs to do some work on social distance set up. Unfortunately you can’t see from the outside how many people are in the store. Today there were at least 6 people inside and it was hard to maneuver around customers due to store layout. Staff was very friendly. Coffee though was totally tasteless. Unfortunately don’t think we will return.

Friendly staff and amazing coffee. They have Hawaiian coffee, so it is not your typical coffee shop. A bit pricier than Starbucks, but was worth it. Nice atmosphere, and very clean.

I was at the cafe the other day ordering a hot coco and a sandwich to go but unfortunately I encountered a very rude and disrespectful staff member at the cash register, she payed no attention to me for awhile and tended other people who ordered after me. Food was good though. Might want to reevaluate your staff.

Atmosphere was great. The coffee was horrible. Folders (yuck) would have tasted better. This is coming from a person that has previously lived in Hawaii. I know what to expect from a good cup of Hawaiian brew. In response to the establishment response. The coffee was expresso shots. Not sure how they could be brewed wrong. I watched them prepare.the shots. It was the coffee.
