I bought a special order birthday cake from here. It looked great, and tasted even better. I never got to try anything else in the store but it all look and smell delicious. The staff was very friendly and organized. Prices were cheaper then anywhere else I looked. Trying to find parking was a bit of a pain, but well worth the struggle. Thanks again for the great cake!

Always good pastries and cookies, for me it’s all about the Mille Feuilles aka Vanilla slice aka Napoleon. Only place around to get this particular favorite of mine. The pastry is flaky and light the cream thick and rich. Wonderful new addition is George,so pleasant and friendly I bought more than I meant to.

Had the best turkey dinner (next to my wife's of course) we've ever had from a restaurant. Everything was fresh and delicious. Not sure how @Steve Thackray says his dinners tasted old...when I went to pick up on Christmas eve, the lady in the back was CARVING the turkeys!! Doesn't get much fresher! Excellent bakery and deli, excellent staff, excellent service, highly recommend!

The doughnuts here are amazing! Fluffy and not too sweet. We were able to pre-order on their website and selected a variety of regular and filled doughnuts. When we came to pick them up, I was so glad I pre-ordered as it looked like they had ready sold out of doughnuts before noon. Very affordable as well. Will definitely be back for more!

It is very clear the women who work here pick and choose who they are kind to. I came in and it is not a welcoming atmosphere, not only did it feel like the woman in the front did not want to genuinely help but, some of the goodies I ordered were not in my boxes which was really disappointing and I was getting stuff for myself and sister in law who just gave birth, I specified what needed to be in what box and nothing was in the correct boxes and they had put stickers on them so I had to take them off and re organize everything in the car. On top of this, I was the first person in there and the young man who works there had to go to the back to get what I wanted it took about five minutes and I was getting quite a bit from the front, I try to tell the woman what I want and she told me the other man would be helping me, she let four people go in front of me and by the time the young man came back the stuff I wanted was gone because she helped the other customers instead of myself. The two woman who work here treat the young man poorly and don’t seem to want to answer any questions. It’s very sad to see. Drove from Vancouver for a horrible experience.

We always come here for special-occasion pastry and to order birthday cakes no one else around here makes (mocha! try it!). It's also my only source for oat-bran bread (delicious fresh, perfect for French toast if you don't finish a loaf fast enough--it soaks up the egg!). Little bit disappointing, the fluffy cinnamon bun I ate had a small hard black stone(?) in it that I happened to bite down on Ouch! And this bun would also taste much better with cream cheese icing... Their butter tarts are very heavy and dense. I prefer flakier pastry. Very sweet. Also a bit expensive $2 per tart. We also tried the cake pops (very moist) and donuts but nothing really impressed me... They have a huge variety of so maybe I will find something if I go back

This is a review for a period of 1.5 years that I used to go there frequently: Coffee is OK. Sandwiches are overpriced So I tried only once and that was it. Other stuff are reasonably priced, mostly. The owner at times shows and her attitude stinks. Other staff are mostly friendly, polite and helpful. Nevertheless I hope the business stays up and running.

This is a charming little bakery, I beleive it has been recently moved to a newer building. It still maintains that old white rock charm. I came in here for soup and a sandwich to-go right before closing, and they were happy to help me. There are tons of savoury and sweet treats to chose from. I would come back. Did not like our Christmas turkey dinner for two at all. Tasted OLD. We ended up making a turkey dinner as we could not eat the purchased dinners. Plus our mince pies were missing. We were really looking forward to the Hillcrest meal - sadly it wont ever happen again

I've ordered cakes from here for 10 years now and it tastes exactly the same now as it was before. My favourite is the Italian Torte. Some may call it the cream puff cake but no other bakery in all of Vancouver does it the way they do. It's a must try. I also love the blueberry scones here. They are creamy styled scones that are super soft and heavenly to bite into.

We recently bought a rainbow birthday cake. It is terrible. The cream is artificial, very hard not creamy at all: sugar is not cane sugar but some supplement so taste very bad; the colors are so ugly made of bad material, that it took up a long time to get rid of the color from tongue. The whole thing gave the mouth a very bad taste that you even feel sick after eating it. We have throw most of the expensive cake, it ruined the birthday!

I love Hillcrest Bakery and Deli, I'm so glad I found them in my new neighborhood. Everything is so delicious!! Amazing baked goods made fresh daily. They also have scrumptious savoury goods. You definitely need to try the Chocolate Treasure Chest,its so unique. Gourmet Donuts and Rumballs all to die for. The Kringle was amazing, and apple Danish is my favorite too. The service is always so friendly, the staff is excellent and so patient with every customer. The prices are reasonable, you definitely get your money's worth. I'm hooked, I go at least once a week to try something new

I'm not a regular reviewer but I live very close to this place and have always felt so baffled at their business choices and product offerings that I'm making a review. I know many people who also live nearby and have always avoided this place for the exact same reasons. I'm sure they have their regulars but I wonder if they are aware of the number of white rock residents who try them once and never return? Let's start with the cookies. They seem VERY fond of this one variety of very, very dry and crumbly shortbread base which they do in countless varieties and shapes but it all tastes the same. They offer thin little cookies, sometimes with a thin layer of dark chocolate or maybe a smartie or two tacked on top with some icing, and they all cost upwards of 2 dollars. I have never seen this type of cookie offered else where and have never known anyone to prefer this sort of thing over moister, chewier cookies you see almost everywhere else. They are dry and bland to the point of inedibility. Do the owners actually eat these? The gingerbread is also extremely dry and I don't know how anyone chokes it down. No other type of cookie is offered here. Want a nice chewy chocolate chip? Nope. A peanut butter? Anything novel or interesting or original? Nope. Bizarrely, they have plenty of merengue nests. Imagine a bakery with merengue nests but no decent cookies. I had a brownie and it was tiny, a third the size of what you would get for the same price just next door at Around the Bean, and didn't even taste like a brownie. I wondered if the bakers here have tasted a brownie made anywhere else in the last thirty years? Cause what they offer doesn't taste like what goes by the name "brownie". It tastes like a very dense, dry chocolate cake with a very sweet icing on top. A square half the size of a playing card for 2.65 with tax . I don't want to be nasty but I'm blown away that bakers who devote their life's to making sweets produce such subpar things. I'd like to be a regular customer but they can't seem to make one thing that tastes the way it's supposed to (the breads good though).

We ordered a birthday cake from Hillcrest Bakery last weekend. Due to a communications glitch the delivery request didn't go through. Luckily I was able to get in contact with someone at the bakery (at the end of their day) and we discovered the mistake. The person I spoke to went above and beyond to get our cake to us that evening and even delivered a bonus pie! The cake was delicious and our night was saved. 100% will be back again! We ordered Christmas Turkey Dinner from here for 8 people. It was good. We had left overs on all dishes except the vegies. However we did have a couple of vegetarians drop in so that is why. The dinners come cooked but cold so be prepared to bring them home and warm them before guests arrive. Price was good and it sure beats trying to do all that cooking yourself. Would be really cool if next year they could offer adding a Christmas ham for an extra cost.

I have been a long time customer of Hillcrest Bakery, and in the last year have had their wonderful products delivered. This is the most amazing service, because not only can you get regular bakery products, but essential items like milk, eggs, deli meats and cheese. I am slowly working my way through their wonderful breads, and buns, and their doughnuts are an awesome "must try"! This lovely White Rock establishment also makes weekly and holiday meals that you can also have delivered.

Not Covid compliant!!! I went in today to purchase bakery products but the young scruffy looking young man at the counter (serving a customer) had his mask on his chin with his mouth and nose exposed. The older fellow , an employee was sitting at the sandwich counter with no mask on at all. The two ladies didn't really seem to care. Get with the requirements Hillcrest it is totally irresponsible of you to present yourselves in this way. Who knows what goes on in the mornings when the bakers are in, I won't be back there. I am not a poster or complainer, it is just wrong for a business to be so careless.

Sandwiches aren't bad, but I felt pretty uncomfortable with the kid making the sandwiches behind the counter. No mask, long hair hanging over the cold table. The customers were wearing masks, but none of the employees were. It's such a small space where they make the sandwiches, which makes it difficult to order and pay for your sandwich while trying to social distance. I made a comment about feeling uncomfortable with them not wearing masks while making food in front of you, and was told it's the employees decision whether they want to wear a mask or not. With record numbers of COVID-19 rising every day, you should be doing everything you can to make your customers feel safe. I for one did not feel safe and won't be returning.

If planning an important event and you need to have the specific items you ordered to be ready on time, avoid this bakery. It was a simple task of ordering and paying for two Christmas Dinners two weeks in advance to be picked up on Christmas Eve. Went to pick it up as planned and a man behind the counter handed me a large brown bag and I headed home. The bag seemed light for what was supposed to be two complete dinners so I checked them and discovered two items were missing from the order. I phoned the bakery and as soon as said I had just picked up an order I was interrupted by the counter person who had given me the bag, who said that they had sold out of blueberry pies, one was supposed to be in my order. He said I could return to the bakery on the Sunday to get one. I said it was meant for a Christmas Dinner, not a Boxing Day dinner. He also said they didn’t include the Christmas Pudding ordered because that was sold out. I reminded him the items had been ordered two weeks prior and paid for. They would have had more than enough of those items at that time and so why were they not put aside to fill my order? I asked if the bakery had just been selling those items to anyone who just walked in even though they had already been paid for? This meant in effect people were paying for those item in the preorder but those same items were then being sold again to walk in customers. He remained silent. For each point I raised he just said come to the store the day after Christmas so it could be sorted. He did not seem at all concerned and the point these items were orders for a Christmas Dinner and not any old dinner appeared beyond his understanding or caring. As frustrating as it was to hear that poor planning for prepaid orders and poor customer service had led to me to not getting my full order, even with two weeks to notice, that was not the worst thing. When I picked up the order the counter person Raj made absolutely no mention of the items missing even though he was well aware of the fact. That lack of informing me made it impossible for me to find them somewhere else so late in the day. Was he hoping I would have forgotten what I ordered or was he hoping he could avoid dealing with it until after Christmas? I returned to the bakery to deal with this matter but they had shut for the day even though there were no signs indicating they were closing early. I then emailed the bakery about this and did get a response from the owner. However, the first thing she wrote was that it had been a very long day, obviously concerned more about her day than that of a frustrated and upset customer. Her situation was unfortunate but my concern was about not having an order that I had paid for and then being deliberately deceived at the bakery. She offered to drop something off later on Christmas Day but it wasn’t what I had ordered and it was too late. So I sent a short reply stating I just wanted the money my back. I heard nothing for four days but then received a notification that my Visa had been credited for the missing items. From a personal moral standpoint if I promise someone something I do everything I can to fulfil that promise and do whatever I can to make amends if I failed. Unfortunately personal morals and responsibility and business morals and responsibility have gone in opposite directions. Personally, if I had owned that business I would have returned the cost for the entire meal as a genuine apology and expression of regret. At no time did I get the impression that anyone at the bakery actually cared about the situation. Instead there was no apology. No explanation why an order placed two weeks prior was not filled. Why I was not told when picking the order up that items were missing. No compensation for the frustration, stress and disappointment. I would not deal with them again. The dinner I did get was very average. The gravy was terrible and I had to replace it with my own. Two mince tarts were crushed and decrepit. A major disappointment for a Christmas Dinner. Not recommended.

Was so looking forward to having a great pie. Heard lots about this place. My girlfriend went and brought home a pumpkin pie. It didn’t smell great and hardly had any filling. Not what I was hoping for. It looked watery and sad. Tried it despite all that. Worst tasting pumpkin pie I have ever tasted. Texture was more slurry than pie filling. Taste was more nutmeg than pumpkin flavor. If you’re getting that I was not impressed. You are CORRECT! On my way to Save-On-Foods to salvage desert tonight. Then my daughter pulls out a hair from her piece!!! WHAT???

A Complete and Utter Disappointment with the so called Bakery as I went in Saturday Morning asked for Plain old Fashioned Cake Donuts and paid $9.00 for a six pack that was frozen which is fine but when I get home they are the Sugar Soaked variety not the " Plain Cake Donuts " I asked for .So not Happy as I just wasted 9 Bucks for a pound of sugar. Also the rating is wrong it should be a Minus not a plus for the Utter Uselessness of such lousy Donuts as these are !

I just moved into the area and thought I would give this place a try. I ordered the clubhouse sandwich and it didn't disappoint. I can see myself being a regular here and supporting local businesses! Great local spot for some good food!
