REVIEWS OF Swiss Bakery IN West Vancouver

Mimi W

Especially in the case of sweets, there isn't *that* much there that could actually be called European, much less Swiss. Baked goods include several varieties of muffins, tarts and doughnuts with a few squares and a couple buns and pastries. The focus, however, seems to be their doughnuts, or, more specifically, their various types of cronuts. And if there are doughnuts, namely that apple fritter, you definitely won't find me complaining. ;) -- "Mimi's Cake Tour"

Good in store made bread and pastries

If you are ever in the area, BUY THE PRETZEL. It will be the best $2 you've ever spent. I promise.

Marc C.

Baked goods excellent - Service horrible. Nothing bad can be said about the products in this bakery. Breads and Sweats are all of very good quality and can't be found that well made everywhere in town. However, arrogant attitude these ladies present themselves with is hilarious. Also twice I just made it barely before 18:00 hrs to the shop, several loafs of bread still on the shelving, but door locked and the person inside did not have any intention, even to look at us. Today was the last time that I tried to spent my money here. Not sure how they can stay in business.

Graeme Paterson

Great food, lots of variety and friendly staff

Worth every bit of the drive from anywhere in the Fraser Valley. Coffee, donuts, sandwiches, breads and more. Just got one delivered 70 km to my job site, so worth the wait!! I’d tell you to go early in the day but then you’d beat me there in the morning. Enjoy the experience.

Jacob Patenaude

Awesome bakery :) Delicious bread! The barista with the nose ring is cute is she single?

In my view, Swiss Bakery is the home of the city’s best apple fritter, consistently crispy and well-glazed, with small chunks of the eponymous fruit. Nice selection of cronuts/frissants with various featured flavours, so arrive early (but not too early, before they’re ready) to avoid disappointment. The chicken and potato salad is also a winner. Note that they only accept cash or (Canadian) debit cards.

Thank you Swiss Bakery for making my Birthday extra special with gorgeous fresh treats arriving at our door. I corresponded with Maria who had given me the best customer service I've ever experienced. All treats were incredble and the baguette was soft and fresh. My favorites are cinnamon roll apple fritter and pain au chocolate. Can't wait to get my next order

Anna Tasca

I went here several times: they have tasty pastries at a good price. Sometimes I go there willing to buy a specific type of bread or croissant to sadly discover it's not available because they are baking it only after 12ish (don't know why?). Pain au chocolate let me down, custard donut is good, almond croissant too. Coffee is average but no skim milk option, only almond +0.80$. Even if you want to enjoy your coffee inside the shop you will get a paper cup, a plastic spoon, no water etc. You can pay only debit (above 5$) or cash. No credit card.

BEST DONUTS!!! I can not stress this enough, the donuts are amazing.

Raysing Guo

A lovely place . The only down side is that they do not accept credit card .

We drove to Vancouver to try this place! ordered a baget, frissant, apple fridder and a few other items. Everything was either stale, dry, or incredibly greasy. We did not finish ANY of the items we order. Super disappointing as this was for a special occasions. I wouldn't recommend if you're looking for baked or fried goods.

Amanda Heredia

Their bread, specially the sourdough, is very good. They also have a good selection of sandwiches and soups. The pastries and cakes are homemade.

Poppi Sabhaney R.Ac.

Great bakery with an assortment of savoury and sweet baked goods. I always go for their pretzels, but sometimes I find their sweet bakery to be overly sweet.

One of the hidden gems, Swiss Bakery serves a wide selection of baked goods: pastries, sandwiches, salads & soups. Coffee is excellent. Our family favourites: pretzel, cheese sticks, pretzel croissants, apple/mocha fritters, chicken & potato salad.

Adam Henderson

The best sandwiches and pastries for miles. I love this place.

Mk T

I was on the way to a bakery & coffee place, stumble upon this pastry on the same street. Check that on Yelp, high hope on the frissant , order one Chocolat and one with prosciutto and a chocolate croissant. The normal croissant was not bad, but when I bite that frissant, I regret I order that. It was very oily. I might try other pastry but definitely stay away from it.

We used to eat here regularly, but had two bad customer service experiences in a row with the same girl. After the second time I wrote an email but never got the response. The food is good, but the service is non existent, so not my favourite place.

The baby frissant tasted like a regular crispy croissant, I don’t think it was impressive given the price.

The Quinoa Salad with Kale is delicious. Their Pretzels too. Pastry looks awesome and I can’t wait to try more. Friendly relaxed atmosphere. Bread looks great too. Five stars, definitely.

Ordered 24 gingerbread men and women for a small cookie decorating party I was having. Filled out the online order form and got a call back about the order within a few hours (thanks Karen!). Very helpful staff, very responsive (by phone and email). And the cookies were a hit too! Would definitely use them again.

While the Swiss Bakery is probably most well-known for their "Frissants" (a hybrid fritter/croissant!) it is also a top-notch Swiss bakery, with a myriad of regional artisan breads and amazing soft pretzels. Also the only place I've found in Vancouver that sells St. Galler Brot!

Vee Eau-Vive

Staff knows nothing about their products and they explicitly use false advertising. The front signage on this place clearly and boldly states “organic breads” as one of their main offerings. So I bought a loaf one day, as the only type of breads I usually buy are organic. I asked which were vegan and the girl said “none” but I checked with another staff member who said they all were, except the cheese bread. Second time I went in ready to buy, and I asked if *all* of their breads were organic. Girl didn’t know... she went to the back for a while & returned to say none of them are. I recommend avoiding this place.

Kit Yee Yu

I bought a couple of cronuts (frissants) and a chocolate croissant here. All of them tasted great! I went to this bakery before they closed at 6pm, so there was not much varieties remaining. I should have come in the morning. I told a server there that it was my first time here. She introduced me what was good or very good. I thanked her help. When I drove by on the way to work in the morning, I saw people came here to buy a cup of coffee and some bread or pastries for breakfast. Usually the bread and pastries are more fresh and soft in the morning. There is street parking in front of the bakery. It is quite convenient. If you are in the neighbourhood, you should visit this European bakery and try some of their bread or pastries.

Great tasting food, super friendly employees and easy on the wallet. My favorite is the herb chicken sandwich

Alice TY K

Cozy little place and serves the best Frissants in town. If you haven’t tried their amazing Frissants and their monthly flavors.. you are MISSING OUT. Downside to these are they sell out way too fast.. and for some of us that work early in the morning and late in the afternoon.. by the time we get out to the bakery.. the Frissants are all gone :( Must try when you’re in town or in the area..

I picked up a Swiss Bakery Pretzel and Pretzel Bun from Wholefoods, they are super yummy and I absolutely love them!! So much I have to make a trip to their bakey which I am sure is awesome. They're great as a snack or even I used some Avocado, egg, spinach, tomatoes and cracked black pepper with chilli flakes to make the most epic Pretzel sandwich know to mankind! Wholefoods themselves do a great Support network or selling local Vancouver-based business produce which is awesome! Support your local businesses!

Angel Cao

Love and hate this place. You have to go early or else they get sold out quick! But their stuff is amazing

Lincoln Chan

Home of Vancouver's version of the cronut without the New York lineups (usually).

Geoff Dyck

They make truly some incredible deserts.

Erika Grigg

Wow, what an incredible group of people! I ordered some donuts off Skip The Dishes for my office, which is always a gamble as you are trusting the Skip service to know what is available, and they didn’t have the exact amount of jelly and custard donuts I needed so they swapped the remaining for 3 chocolate and 3 glazed donuts (which we were all happy with) and they threw in an extra chocolate donut for free! My coworker also ordered a cinnamon bun for herself, and they weren’t happy with the size so they threw in an extra! As someone who works in Customer Service, I appreciate when businesses go above and beyond. I will be back and referring anyone I know to this place!

Best bakery ever. I used to go here every morning when I studied Vancouver Acting school, and they have the BEST lemon tarts ever. And they have the best Turkey BLT's, and they were always kind enough to take the tomato off for me. First place I'm going to when I'm back in Vancouver. And everyone who works here is ridiculously nice!

They have a wide array of breads, sandwiches, pastries, and hot beverages. Their frissants are really something, and this is a great spot to visit during the Hot Chocolate Festival.

Catherine K

Bread and pretzels were tasty, a bit pricey but options for traditional German pretzels are limited so I guess they can do that. We ordered in advance and they changed our order last minute (without consulting us and with more expensive items) and charged us the higher price. Not ok!! We had plans so had no choice in the matter. Pretty disappointing!

Michelle Philippe

I've been visiting Swiss Bakery since it opened pre-2005. The baking just gets better & better. Best puff pastry pastries in Vancouver. The artisan breads are amazing & reasonably priced. I recommend a grilled sandwich on any of the artisan breads. It's so big I can only ever eat half. Service used to be spotty years ago but is great now & so is the coffee!

Lovely fresh treats, Gorgeous Bread (walnut onion or rosemary olive are my favourites) Discounted after 5pm. A small local bakery, that won't charge and arm and leg, because it's "Artisanal". Amazing Staff.

Went for the 2020 Vancouver hot chocolate festival and ordered "Drop" : it was absolutely awful. Tasted disgusting. Perhaps to do with the girl who made it sticking her fingers in the cup right before handing it to me... WHY would you do that in front of the customer?? If there was something floating in it, with that kind of hefty price tag you'd think she could bother to re-make it! Especially as the cafe was completely empty. Also ordered a gluten-free brownie to go, which was super sweet and heavy, also terrible and we couldn't eat it. There are so many great cafés and coffee shops in this city, I would highly recommended going ANYWHERE else.

Karen Garcia

Love this place. Delicious food and reasonable pricing!

Josh Conley

Megan McKay

I recently made a large order and was so impressed. They halloween baked goods were adorably presented and everything tasted great. My only complaint is that the gluten-free products weren't packaged separately, so there was a cross-contamination issue. Otherwise, excellent products and will definitely order again.

If want anything in particular, you need to, without question, go early or they will run out.

I needed to order a cheesecake for my daughter's birthday. They were quick to reply and very helpful. The Cheesecake was beautiful and my daughter loved it. I can't wait to try the pumpkin cheesecake.

Baked goods (sweets) are a bit pricier, but excellent quality. Try the frissant (fritter + croissant), the (non-copyrighted) cousin of the cronut (croissant + donut). Hidden gem.

tom Lau

Great selection of bread and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Cooper Bockus

I do love this place. But why must the pretzel bun BLT always be in such limited supply?

Wendy Au Yeung

One of the best baguettes in town!

Joanna Rose

I had the caramel frissant (cronut) it was so delicious! (Messy though, definitely grab a couple napkins if you're taking it to go). The coffee is okay, but there is a wide variety of delicious pastries to make up for that!

Jaime L

Peter Mustard

Excellent bread and at prices that aren't nearly as high as most of the other "aritisianal" bakeries. Lots of good treats as well. The sandwiches are a bit pricey but very very filling. Probably my favourite bakery in Vancouver.

Jeff Grayston

worst possible custom cake experience ever! Was supposed to be a layered lemon cake, NOT! was supposed to have lemon zest, NOT!, was supposed to be professional, ARE YOU KIDDING ME DUNCAN HINES? They even used salted butter in the icing, pathetic and amateur, do not waste your money on custom cakes at this dump

Gigi Calvillo

The food here is so fresh and also the staff are so friendly. I’ve only gone a couple times but I find myself often thinking about my coffee and meal I had there. I think it’s time to go back soon!

Db ForNexusApps

Winter's harvest hot chocolate was delicious. Friendly service, reasonable prices.

Chubba P

The size of bread is getting smaller every year. The eggtwists are usually raw inside and today I got charged $1 extra for having two loaves of bread sliced. I believe it's called "gouging the customer". I used to like this place. Not any more.

First time we went to this bakery shop was in an afternoon, not much too choose from, almost out. Second time we were here again, love their double almond croissant, even though the filling is a bit too sweet for me. Was looking to buy their four cheese frissant, but wasn't in. They do change their frissant flavour each month.

I love this place! Very good for price and and they're always experimenting with new bakery items and cute treats that are fresh. They've got a good selection of salads and sandwiches. The staff are lovely. I frequent here on my lunch breaks. :)

Eric

Their frissants taste quite similar to Cronuts in New York. Was pleasantly surprised and would definitely visit again. Also their other pastries were delicious. They offer online pickup service which is convenient and saves you time. One thing I found inconvenient was the parking, but I feel this is out of the bakery’s control. Had to park pretty far due to no space. Would be interested in trying different frissants flavor in the future.

Sasha Langford

I love croissants and I heard that this was one of the best places in the city to get them. I ordered two regular butter croissants on a Wednesday morning around 11:30am. While visually they looked nice, from the moment I was just carrying the bag, I had a hunch just from the feeling of them in there that they might not be the freshest. Honestly, these croissants were so stale they were clearly day olds, the same what you would get from any random cafe. I might as well have even gone to Safeway's bakery section. There's no way they could have been baked that same morning, since I was only there a few hours after they opened. It wasn't written anywhere that these were day olds. I even tried toasting one at home and eating it with butter but it was still so stale and totally unsatisfying. You should not even need to add butter to a croissant to make it taste good, they are already essentially made out of butter! A waste of time, money, and my daily calorie intake. Save yourself the trouble and go to Batard on Fraser instead. P.S. This is the first time I've ever written a review for anything, that's how disappointed I was.

Hatem Alahwal

For some reason they did not accept credit cards.

Their donuts are so good! I also highly recommend their pretzel croissant! Online ordering was really easy to do here.

I bought lunch there and the sandwiches are awesome! I tried there bread and pretzels as well and I like it. I would recommend the place

Tom Cuffe

Their sourdough is the best in the city. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Croissants with cheese and ham delicious. Walnut and onion loaf delicious! My only gripe is the slices are too thick . I go through a loaf too fast. I got to meet the baker, genius! Tom Cuffe

Sophia Montero

Rob Mathew

Love their breakfast sandwiches, and pretty much everything they do

Dexter Vosper

Pretty good pastries and coffee, great bread! Good little neighborhood spot if you're in the area

William Jackson

We’ve been coming here for years, all because of the “frissant” (or cronut), which is like a mix between a donut and croissant. They are incredibly delicious, as are the giant pretzels. For a limited time, they also have two delicious and decadent chocolate drinks (on top of the usual coffee based beverages. It’s a little tucked away, but well worth the trip.

One of the best places for pastries, sandwiches, wraps, and other baked goods. Ask for the sandwiches to be toasted and they are come out hot and crispy from the panini grill. Home if the cronut - a cross between a croissant and a deep fried donut. Also serves coffees. Outdoor seating is available and staff are friendly.

Coffee Lover

Best bakery ever!!. This might be an unusual one for a bakery but I want to say that there serving sizes are HuGe!! . About the service it’s awesome! I have never had any problems with them. They are also very good with following the safety protocols during such crazy times so my money is on them.

Matthew Ho

Just awesome authentic European style bakery. Their coffee is so good and that goes for all their pastries as well. Super rare, have I encountered true authentic good European coffee and pastry in Vancouver. Great place for breakfast, coffee, and lunch. Would like to see their staff interact with the customers more. Just a tip for customer service. Try to get to know your customers!

Marcel Krueger

I was hoping to find some traditional German style pretzels. even showed up 15 min after opening (8:15am) to get some fresh soft pretzels. I was very disappointed when I got soggy old pretzels that had rubber like consistency and the salt was already melted. Those pretzels where definitely more than a day old. very disappointing

D

This was nothing special. We ordered quite a few items for delivery, the cronut and the white chocolate brownie were good, the cookies were stale, the blueberry scone wasn't very flavourful.
