I've visited the StLawrence location many times and continue to be disappointed with everything. The honey cake is just terrible, lacking in flavour and texture with a very odd flavour nowhere close to honey. I had a misc assortment of fruit tarts at Christmas and was also totally disappointed with the pastry and fillings. I tried the cabbage rolls last Saturday. They were filled with a very bland and boring rice and pork filling. No flavour and when I asked if there was any tomato sauce for very dry cabbage rolls, I was told no, but try sour cream. The staff on all occasions were very discourteous and badly lacking in customer service skills. On all occasions not only was the bread and pastry of mediocre quality, the staff were right down there with poor service. It's no wonder the average rating is just good. There's a good guess that the management of this chain bakery is not listening to their customers nor interested in improving sales.
Delicious European Bread!
Their butter tarts are really nice and reasonable. The Loblaws one is $4 and this one is $1.89. Really fresh and buttery true to it's name. I also got a pecan tart which I can't wait to taste tomorrow. The past of the future bakery is pretty sweet and it was nice to read it while enjoying the tart. This might be our staple for butter tarts.
I went an hour before closing and the trays of baked goods were completely full (150+ butter tarts)... So I really question how fresh everything is. I got some custard tarts and the crust was really chewy.
this is the third time i’ve come here, waited in line for 15 min while the only person working ignored us. the staff have no love. theyre rude and understaffed. i so wish the SLM would replace them with an excellent bakery. like blackbird!
I just have to give this bakery a one star. I bought two tarts at $4.95 each, and they put both in a tiny box, piling one tart on top of the other. I didn’t see this until I had long left the bakery and presented it to my date at dinner. Talk about embarrassing! Terrible customer service as well. I love the St.Lawrence Market but I highly recommend you do not support this bakery.
Bought macarons here a couple of weeks ago. They lacked the depths and flavours one would expect from good macaroons. One of them even left a bad aftertaste.
Rude staff, tasteless bread. 1st floor of St Lawrence deserves a much better place - a real, proper bakery.
No excuse for selling stale bread at lunchtime on a weekday.
Been unimpressed in the past, bought some egg hotdogs buns this weekend. Put them in the cupboard, 48 hours later went to use them and they had significant blue/green mold. Be sure to check products carefully to avoid disappointment.
Yes, butter tarts. We ordered the butter tarts with walnuts and just regular. I loved them. And went back for more two. My wife didn't appreciate so much. Bad wife! :)
Ordered six tarts. Not bad. The women behind the counter were very rude and snide. I'm amazed that with all of these reviews noting the terrible customer service that Future Bakery hasn't acted.
Amazing selection of grassfed dairy products! Stuff that I couldn't find anywhere else.
I asked for six hamburger buns, and thought the employee had misheard me when she asked for $7. But I paid it anyway and expected something pretty good for that price. Instead they were tough, stale and inedible. A real disappointment.
Purchased three tarts and all were fresh and delicious. Very impressed.
It was an amazing place
Great bakery for bread and eastern European desserts and cakes
The coconut macaroons have grown in size and are now chocolate dipped too. I've tried their almond pretzels, not bad. My daughter also had a butter cookie and it wasn't bad either. What's bad though are three of things: they charge tax on food items below $5, not sure why (you don't have tax when you order 6 or more items but what if I don't want that much); they don't include surveyettes when you order these baked goods, when you ask for some, they reluctantly give you 'one'; service isn't the friendliest. It's as if they know they are the only game in town and therefore, what's the use of providing service with a smile. C'mon guys, continue that baker stereotype where being in the business of sugar and bread should also result in smiles galore!
Wasn't expecting the food to be nuked in the microwave. I'd definitely suggest looking at fresher options in the market!
I asked for six butter tarts, and they all looked delicious. I was getting my money out of my wallet as the woman put the tarts in the box. When I got home, what did I find in the box? Six burned, hard-as-rock things that had no resemblance to the tarts that I saw on the shelves. Lesson learned: next time, watch what they are packing before paying. That goes for the other places I will do business with, but never again for Future Bakery in the St. Lawrence Market.
I've been coming here for years now and have enjoyed Future Bakery and some of their offerings, regardless of their absolutely abysmal customer service. A couple months back I purchased a couple pieces of chocolate baklava for us to have in the car with a coffee. When we took the baklavas out of the container they were soggy and falling apart. Well whatever, that isn't the end of the world so we continued to munch them, but to our tastebuds disgust the chocolate baklavas where sour and just foul tasting. They clearly had been sitting way too long to be served to customers. Instead of leaving a review without giving Future Bakery a chance I did contact them via their website and left them an email explaining the dissatisfaction with their product. They replied that they would look into it and that was the last I heard despite sending them a follow up email. Unfortunately I can't recommend Future Bakery anymore, not just because of this incident but their absolutely ignorant employees with their terrible attitudes completely baffle me as well. They clearly don't care about their customers or their own product. Too bad.
I should’ve read the review before I tried cakes here.... I tried napoleon, chocolate cake and cheese cake. Napoleon was too sweet and greasy, chocolate cake was just dry and tough. And the cheesecake, OMG. It has no flavour at all. It doesn’t taste like anything. It’s not rich, sweet or creamy. Horrible store. I just feel shamed that SLM has this low quality store in it.
Their baked goods are average at best, and their customer service needs improvement.
Not impressed by their quality nor service, both are bland at best. There are better options at St. Lawrence Market.
Extremely disappointing butter tarts. Unfortunately I bought two to take home. Terrible pastry. Filling completely lacked flavour.
I just bought a Walnut tart and a cookie. When I opened the box, I found a fly in my tart. I also gave the angry lady $20, and she threw $15 at me. I said you can just give it to me nicely. She said don't come back, I don't need your business. Very poor customer service, they think they are doing you a favor by selling you disgusting awful baked goods. I would recommend going to the basement, there's a better bakery store there.
I am so ticked off!!! This past Saturday morning at St,. Law. Market I bought sour dough bread from Future Bakery. Relatives from Western Canada were visiting and we were to have their favourite type of bread at dinner along with special cheeses. This bread is digusting......old...stale and hard....like cardboard....cannot eat! I recommend to everyone to shop for bread elsewhere.
Purchased a baguette from Future for $2.50. The quality was satisfactory at best. The bread was too white and had no body as it was full of air. A proper baguette should have a chewy consistency. We were quite disappointed with the quality.
The best caraway bread
Must get the Baklavas for dessert! It's so sweet and good especially after a good peameal in a bacon sandwich or fish and chips.
A good business tends to the customer. Week after week we’ve been coming down just to grab a certain loaf of bread - several times they’re out but have similar types there (regardless of what time we arrive) that we can t use with our cooking, eg with sesame seeds or cranberry. Thing is, those loaves remain until closing. So, here’s an idea, bake more of what customers want and less of what stays all day. Novel idea eh?
Asked for my custard tart to be warmed and the older lady rolled her eyes at me. Talk about rude.
(Translated) I was surprised that the evaluation was so low and only a few people rated it. If I remember correctly, I asked them that they are Greek bakeries. There are many delicious cookies, cakes, macarons, tarts, bread, etc. .. The push is that the biscuits are super delicious. Every time I go to St. Lawrence Market, I will definitely buy them home because other Greek bakeries do not have these delicious desserts. The desserts are solid and delicious. There are many choices every time. I want to buy everything. If you have a chance to go, be sure to buy it. Don't miss it.
Horrible customer service, stale bread. You are better off going to any other bakery in the market!
I ordered a tart, and found a bug in the tart. I told the lady and she said you can buy another one. She said I put the bug in the tart purposely. Horrible service and nasty goods.
Nothing special!
Always so yum. Tarts are amazing. The customer service is always happy. Love it. Great selection !! Fair prices too !
We always buy our bagels from here, they have delicious desserts and also happy that they sell Mad Batter Baker cookies here too.
Recommend their rye bread.
It is inside St. Lawrence market and as you would know the whole place is really crowded on a Saturday(Which is a good thing). I am new to cheesecakes and saw it on display here during one of my visits to St. Lawrence market. The cheesecake didnt give any special taste and didnt seem to have good quality ingredients. There are chairs and tables next to this place part of common area, so you can get seats to get rest. I will pass next time when I pass by it.
We went to this place Saturday morning. Nice ladies working the place. The croissant was pretty hard to bite into but the French stick bread was better.
Multi-grain loaf is solid, so is their Portuguese tart. Staff were friendly and accomodating, both at the bread section and pastry section. I specifically asked for crusty bread and the staff grabbed a plastic bag and let me feel thru the bag before I buy. Don't know why it gets so many bad reviews.
