This Bakery belongs to the category of Bakery.
Quaint and welcoming place. I can see why a bunch of folks hang out here all the time. Tried their custard tart as I've been meaning to try the Portuguese version. Didn't disappoint, tasted as expected. Also had the canolli which was a bit too sweet for my liking. Overall pretty decent. The prices are reasonable.
Caldense has to be one of my favourite Portuguese bakeries just in terms of selection and overall amazingness of their coconut baked goods. ;) - Mimi's Cake Tour
Great people the food is EXCELLENT!
Cozy feel, great tarts. I've been on a tart adventure around the city and I can say Caldense is at the top for far.
Dundas and lakeview has a brasilien waitress that is arrogant and unfriend.
Great little portuguese café, best quejadas de nata in the city!
Great food and staff, Happy New Year Your gentle kindness is appreciated
I wish I could give ten stars. Food and ambiance is awesome.
My favourite Portuguese bakery bar none ! Always great service and food unlike some other places like it. Their desserts and breads are awesome as always fresh and delicious !
So, I basically ate breakfast here everyday during this trip to Toronto. It was walking distance and really convenient. I would DEFINITELY recommend this place to anyone coming on a trip to Toronto. It’s also reasonably priced. They had this strawberry ???? pastry that was to die for. It was just the right amount of sugar that went with my green tea. This will be one of my first stops when I return!
Great people and speedy service. Had breakfast and was delicious. Portuguese sausage is awesome.
Have been going there for years. Always make a special trip at Christmas to order the custard tarts the 'bolo rei' which is a yummy portuguese version of fruitcake. Great breakfast, warm and friendly atmosphere
Great local Portuguese bakery.
I love popping into Caldense de Bakery on my way to clients for a coffee and to pick up.some delicious toasta mista sandwiches - grilled ham and cheese :) for them . They are always so delicious a d a nice surprise. As a realtor my clients ways appreciate a lite fuel in moving days . Highly recommend. Suzanne Manvell
Go here very frequent for bread. Honestly I keep going back because it's conviently up the street from were I live but for years I've been going here everyone that works at this particular location are rude and miserable. 0therwise the have desserts, cold cuts, bread, coffee and lots more.
Best Nutella Portuguese tarts ????????
Portuguese bakery, you can feel it.
Really good breakfast food. Decent coffee. You can always get a seat. The staff are gruff but they get the job done.
I go to Caldense very frequently and Can definitively say their high quality coffee + baked goods and great service is consistent with any time or day of the week.
Varieties of Portuguese food and great for breakfast. Lots of people font neighborhood hang out here, specifically seniors making very lovely European feeling.
The little almond pasteries they make on Friday should be a regular feature on their menu! :)
Pastel de nata (custard tarts) here are dessert from the Gods.
Natas here are better than across the street (Nova Era) but the espresso and the bread are on par. The service can get a bit overwhelmed during rush hour it seems.
Every morning all the food is fresh and tasty. Highly recommended.
Paposecos and pastéis de natas are excellent and always a favourite here! Very friendly and warm staff. The croissants are on the sweeter side, but overall very tasty!
Great Portugese bakery
One of several retail outlets for Caldense, this location has a more old-school European vibe than its younger sister east at Palmerston. The decor includes classic ceramic tiles, there's a big screen on the wall turned to Portuguese TV channels, and there's a sense of an older clientele that enjoys hanging out for an espress' and some gossip. The great selection of delicious pastries, breads, and deli sandwiches are the same, the coffee drinks are the same. Another difference? It's open later at night, and it's licensed. Washroom on main level. Wi-Fi available.
You can’t get more authentic than that. Pasteis de nata were the best I’ve ever had.
Quaint spot, great for a quick bite and coffee
Awesome Portuguese pastries and the coffee is good. My favourite are the custard tarts. Don't miss this place!
The best natas!!!
This has got to be the biggest staple Portuguese bakery in Toronto. It's a very modest place, where older generation people usually hang out and feel at home, can speak their own language and are able to get authentic baked delicacies accompanied by a well made coffee. If you don't know what to order ask for the best sellers, the staff is really friendly!
One of the best Portuguese places to go eat at hands down
Delicious Portuguese cakes ????
Loved the egg tarts!
Great bkfst. Plenty of bacon.Pastries look great, but resistance is in the air.
Friendly staff, lovely baked products. Like all croissants I have tried so far, nothing like the ones in France, but still tasty
Cute local bakery in Little Portugal.
Tastes a liiiiiiitle different from traditional Portuguese tarts, family owned & homey
Best Portuguese bread ever!!
Good coffee but pastry was not fresh
Good baguette; disappointed that they were out of buns at 9 am.
Good bakery..good brownies
Really good baked goods. Welcoming staff.
The king cake (bolo rei) is always good
I love this bakery, the bread is awesome and super cheap. They make great sandwiches and lovely coffee. Strangely it always looks like it's closed, I think maybe the windows are over tinted. Highly recommend for a coffee and cake if you're in the hood.
Nice bread/pastries and food !
always nice to have portguese sweets and fresh portguese bun or sweet bread
All the baked goods including pastel de natas are great! This place has never disappointed me.
This is your typical Portuguese Bakery where you can sip on an espresso, buy bread for taking home, pastries to satisfy your sweet tooth and sandwiches or savory codfish snacks if you're feeling peckish. Some of the desserts I've had are: ????️The flan. Their version is a bit different from the classic - it has a citrus, almost floral taste. ????️The Pineapple Cake. Light, not too sweet cake with a sweet egg filling. ✔Tip: They offer a varitey of desserts but, when you're in a joint like this, go for the custard based/sweet egg type(s) - that's what Portuguese Bakeries are really good at. Service is quite friendly and metered street parking is avaliable.
This is a really nice bakery that you can sit and relax without a lot of noise. The custard tarts are delicious and what they are really known for. The almond tarts are great as well. It is not a pricey place and does not have that "fast food" atmosphere. There is free onsite parking and a lot a shops in walking distance.
Great service Great Value great pastries and bread
Went there for coffee place is relatively inexpensive
Great traditional Portuguese bakery
Not fresh and the cashier is so annoying I had to repeat what I had said for 4 times to get a tiramisu
I was there last week and although the pastries are good, I was disappointed that a regular customer construction worker was ordering his regular food WITHOUT A MASK ON. He wasn't even told to wear it. Disappointing.
A great place for a traditional latte
Very good bread, and sweet is well
Great cozy coffee and Portuguese bakery shop. Coffee taste great and the sweets... What can I say... They are delicious!! The pastel de nata are to die for. Crunchy exterior with a soft, creamy and sweet egg custard. I haven't tried their bifana yet, but it looks delicious also. Highly recommended. The staff is super friendly.
The best custard tarts. The pastry for the tart is light and crispy.
Unless you're a regular, the service isn't great.
The girl behind the counter was not professional at all. But all else were good.
I ordered a red velvet cake this week for a milestone birthday. I'm sad to say it was really disappointing. The cake was extremely dry and tasted frost bitten. I ordered it 2 days in advance...definitely not the quality I was expecting
Fresh bread and delicious pastel de nata
Very disappointing. We wanted coffee with cold milk and got steamed. Didn't mind the mistake at the time. I also bought bread for dinner with the Portuguese in-laws and it was hard as a rock and crumbly. The pastries we bought for dessert (pastel de nata) were stale. Slow service, poor quality and old food.
Some of the most delicious pastries I've had in a long time!
Been at the same location since i was a kid. Convid ruined the world.
The nata (custard tart) is amazing!!! It's as good as in Portugal! It's been my go-to bakery for years. Very good baguettes and buns. Fantastic corn bread. Good grilled chicken sandwiches. Cheapest caffe latte and decent too. Excellent value all around.
This place was a lifesaver! We stopped by after a late dinner for some pastries for the following breakfast. It was a highlight of our visit to Toronto, the pastries were perfectly flaky and full of rich custard. Would seek this place out next time I'm in town.
I sought out this place because the reviews were promising, however the Flan we got was mediocre at best. Only slightly better than the service we received from whomever was working, not taking time to describe the other dishes, making us order from over 10 feet away without even being able to see the treats on display. Truly regrettable experience.
Lovely staff and they have best egg custards!! Just one suggestion, maybe you guys should have extra help during busy hours.
One of my all time favorite bakeries. Been going to them for years. Pastries are on point the bread is to die for.
Cozy and traditional Portuguese cafe.
It is not bad consider the situation at the moment
have been here a few times now and always a good experience - the staff at the Mississauga location is also very nice. I ordered their massa sovada online but they were out and sent me a bunch of their bolos levedos muffins instead and i'm so glad they did! tried it for the first time and i'm an instant fan. Very soft with a nice subtle sweet taste - really good on its own or in a breakfast sandwich :)
Good customer service and good food pastries. The best.
Excellent pastries, coffee, and staff. Strongly recommend it to my friends.
Quality bakery, often just get a sandwich to go and maybe a tart or two for the road.
Little disappointed at the 1209 Dundas location. Went in to buy some custard tarts. It seems each is independently owned. But the tarts at this location looked old, as if they sat there for a long time and the taste wasn't right (custard wasn't smooth). Unfortunate because Caldense used to have a reputation, but now there are better bakeries in the same vicinity. I wouldn't recommend going to 1209 Dundas ever again.
Never had a better BLT in my life
Is very friendly place serve a good breakfast good coffee good desert is a good place to take the family for a coffee or for a breakfast
Best Portuguese custard tarts and bread.
A great medium sized bakery that offers the most flaky Portuguese egg tart, be careful not to binge eat them! Depending on the hour, you can also sit down and enjoy a latte and watching the view from the window. Sometimes the cafe gets crowded and loud but coming before 5 PM is always great.
Want to go to Portugal for their baked goods and bread but can't afford it? Just come here and enjoy everything from back home. Tosta mista on fresh baked bread, esspressos like the cafes in Lisboa, they also do a great job catering large groups. Had made an order for a large number of desserts for a wedding and no hassle at all. After you get portuguese chicken from next door come here for dessert
Customers or people with problems want attention try to put their breasts over the counter. Some with dirty clothes. It is not hygienic and does not look nice in Canada. Quite entertaining.
Amazing tarts, the cakes were a bit disappointing though.
Not as nice as the other location near Dundas and Bathurst. Also, the pastries weren't as good, and customer service was pretty much non existent. Will only be going to the other one in the future.
This a quaint bakery cafe in the heart of Portuguese Toronto. A nice place for a light lunch or just a good latte and pastry.
the service and attitude of the man who attends this business is the worst and rude I have experienced in toronto.
The shrimp patties bring back childhood memories that very near and dear to my heart. An absolute treasure this place is. Many thanks to the lovely lady who put eight away for me this morning.
