Found this spot from many food bloggers’ recommendations. I visited on a Friday on my day off, and it was so worth the visit ! The store decor is very adorable and there’s a good selection is pastries. It’s usually difficult to find savoury pastries done well and this spot nails it! I love the sausage roll, chicken pot pie. Also picked up some sweets such as the lemon bichon and chocolate cookies (mind blown how a simple cookie is so delicious). Staff also very friendly :)

Joseph Jay Williams

Unique, carefully crafted pastry that is right combination of soft, flaky and crisp. The sweet treats were well put together and delicious, and it's unique they have sausage rolls and chicken rolls !

Sasha Kucharczyk

Did someone say delicious baked goods!?!?!? This place helps defines the word yum!

Charlene Ward - Mortgage Agent

I recommend going early because they sell out quick, I tried the chocolate chip cookie and the lemon hand pie. Caramelized pastry/filling was amazing….and I don’t even like pie! I’ll be back

NEW FAVORITE PÂTISSERIE !!! I've tried the lemon bichon, the chocolate chips cookie, the tarte flambée, the sausage roll, the butternut squash tart and the strawberry mascarponne cheese cake and it was OUTSTANDING. This is like a mix of English and French culture of bakery/Patisserie you would find in London and Paris. The buttery and flaky dough is always fill with deliciously thoughtful flavors. You have to go there. The owner is great and definitely loves what she does and that makes me happy!!! You've got to try this place.

Thomas Wang

Barbershop Patisserie - Flaky, buttery puff pastry goodness filled with all sorts of yummy. We got the sausage rolls, chicken pot hand pie, lemon bichon and the apple thing ????. Open Fri - Sun. The lemon bichon... Omg. Run, don't walk! ???? #TomEatsYummyFoodBecauseWhyNot

Solid bakery and everything is good, however items do get cold, so they could offer a method to help restore their former glory

I love their coffee and sausage roll ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow - Delicious! If you like perfect flaky pastries - this is a must! I tried pretty much everything and it is all delicious. I live too close this is dangerous. The squash tart pastry was my favourite - flavourful filling and light flakey pasty. Second fav is the chicken potpie pastry! Who am I kidding - it's all yummy! I have actually been Jill Barber on Instagram for awhile - when she was baking at Blackbird and loved Blackbird's pastries! And they look great too! It is such a treat that she is now at college and Ossington!

My favorite spot!!! Best sausage rolls, cakes and the loveliest staff in town!! I love this place so much. ????????

One of my favourite new bakeries that have popped up during covid. Pastries are so fresh and delicious. Personal favourites include the Lemon Bichon and Sausage Rolls. Jill is super kind too so make sure to visit.

Ben Jackson

The chocolate hazelnut torte is insane and so is the lemon bichon. Obviously a very talented team of bakers, will be back!

Chris Ashton

Straight up Jill is the best baker in the city. The menu isn't overwhelmed by too many options, and that means she can focus on cranking out the goods that everyone wants - the lemon bichon! These things are out of this world. Her new strawberry rhubarb turnovers (think toaster struedel on steroids) are also to die for. Do yourself a favour and pick up 6 of each, at least. Although I've only tried the chocolate fudge cake, which was insane itself, the other cakes available for pre-order also look incredible. Jill is super friendly, her bakery is clean and tidy and inviting, and there should be nothing stopping you from going ASAP.

In a city with great pastry shops, Barbershop stands out for all the right reasons! I went on their first day open, and spent the next week thinking about that Lemon Bichon, a perfectly sized, beautifully carmelized pastry that reminds me a bit of a kouign-amann (the best pastry in the world) with lemon curd inside. I visited again today and satisfied my craving - it was as good as I remembered. We also tried the apple chausson - also delicious! The pastry itself is perfect. It shatters as you bite into it, but not in the messy way some croissants do. You get the texture of all the individual layers, and the right buttery flavour that tells you that owner (and sole employee!) Jill Barber knows what she's doing. The chocolate chip cookie reminds me of Jacques Torres' recipe from the NYT - a better version of the one Le Gourmand is famous for. Soft in the middle, crispy on the edges, and loaded with chocolate. Prices are what you'd expect to pay for the level of quality. Frankly, I'd have paid another dollar for each and still would have felt good about it! Due to COVID, it's one party at a time in the shop. Combined with how great this place is, it's no surprise that when they opened at 11 on this Sunday, there was already a lineup 15 people long. Get there early, you won't regret it!

Natacha Supavivat

Tried one of everything and a latte. Delicious! I can see why there’s always a line :)

Kateryna Topol

Incredibly fresh and tasty treats. The layered dough is one of a kind with a a very crispy outside. Cannot wait to go back a try the rest of the baked goods!

Amazing sausage rolls and chicken pot pie

kookootdot TO

A friend introduced me to this place not too long ago after raving about the sausage roll (I secretly thought to myself, how delicious can a sausage roll be). I fell in love with it instantly. The lemon bichon, chicken sausage roll & OG sausage roll is my favourite so far. Can't speak for the lemon bichon (because I inhale it as soon as I bought it), but the sausage rolls freeze exceptionally well. I tend to buy a few extra for breakfast. I froze mine for a week, took it out and reheat it in the oven. It was still divine, fresh and not DRY at all. What makes me love this store so much is their openness to feedback and the kindness they show. It is a trying time for small businesses, and I applaud Barbershop for your grace and for making me delicious pastries. Here, take all my money~

Gorgeous and delicious treats for sweet and savoury lovers alike! Highlights are: sausage roll, savoury veggie pastries (seriously, whatever veggie pastry they have - GET IT), lemon bichon (don't let it's humble look deter you! It's one of the BEST things here) and chocolate cake. Often there's a line-up outside, but it is 100% WORTH IT.

Sara Tang

As you wait in line outside, you get a waft of butter sweet smell of pastries baked. That just confirms this place makes some amazing pastries. Ever since I've been introduced to this place, I've been hooked. I don't stay close but when I get a chance I love to stock up a selection of pastries. I've yet to try their cakes I've seen. Highly recommend, it's so buttery and flaky and the flavours are just right. Especially those sausage rolls! ❤️

Wes Chiasson

Awesome addition to the neighbourhood. Was well worth the 20 minute line to get in! Sausage rolls & chicken pot pie are unreal. Chocolate chip cookies are insane!

Francis Mariani

Absolutely beautiful and flaky sweet and savoury pastries - we just love them! Wonderful cakes - perfect for birthday celebrations.

I bought some pastries to try and was so disappointed. The two savory ones (with mushrooms and apple/cheddar) were just okay although there is very little filling. But the sweet ones (peach/custard and lemony) are incredibly sugary. One can't taste anything other than sugar. Lemony had nothing on the top nor inside, just burned sugar coated, hard, plain and ugly.... Everything so overpriced. It is awful... I regret the money spent.

Milad

Great stuff.

Danielle Lim

Got a sampling of goodies and recommend the sausage roll for those who like a savoury snack. The lemon bichon was another fav, tangy, flaky, chewy. A welcomed spot in the neighbourhood!

Seriously am I missing something here, seeing mostly 5 star reviews? Another example of a place where people are giving overrated reviews and I can’t fathom why. Went on a whim today to Barbershop Patisserie as I love sausage rolls and always on the lookout to find the best one. Spent $45 for mediocre and pricey rolls and pastries. Bought the following to try: Sausage Roll ($5.75 +tax) - 6 bucks for a tiny sausage roll is way overpriced imo. Tried warming it in the oven and the sausage inside still tasted cold. And since I know it was homemade, I was hoping that the filling will be decent enough. Quite the opposite as it was dry as hell and lacking in flavour. The pastry is also greasy and oil was oozing on my hand as I was trying to eat it. Tuscan Chicken Roll ($6.50 +tax)- Honestly I couldn’t even tell the difference between this roll and the Sausage Roll as they tasted and look the same albeit this was more pricier. Underwhelming and didn’t taste any Tuscan flavour/seasoning/herbs. Chocolate Chip Cookie - Nothing special about the cookie as it resembles Le Gourmand which is crunchy on the outside and soft/chewy on the inside. But just like Le Gourmand, I’m not a fan of this cookie and nothing to get excited about. Lemon Bichon - This is the only saving grace with all the things I’ve tried. The lemony curd inside lends a perfect balance with the crispy caramalized pastry. But still not comparable to the Lemon Bichon we tried in Paris. Overall not happy with the food here and will not be returning.

Would recommend that you try one of everything when you visit.

Delicious delicious delicious. Mushroom ragout filling in the turnover was incredible! And the cakes are great!

Bought the cauliflower gratin and sausage roll. The dough is very flaky, love the texture, but hope it could be slightly warmer, and the service could be more efficient!

Picked up the Lemon Meringue cake for my partner's birthday on Wednesday. Would recommend! I'm not normally a sweet tooth but this had the perfect balance of tart and sweetness. Texture was superb, flavors on point, I couldn't put my fork down even if it wasn't my bday cake. Great friendly service, would buy from them again in the future

Sam Rice

Absolutely delicious treats! I can't get enough of the apple chaussons ????

Audrey Loeb

Four of us stopped in to check out the baking. We had sausage rolls, chicken pot pie and spicy squash and feta. The pastry was amazing and the filling so tasty. We would gladly return for the food. The bakery is cute and great service.

Cindy Chan

The most delicious, buttery pastries ever!! The lemon bichon and its caramelized goodness is seriously one of the most delicious bites I have had in Toronto and a must try! I also love their sausage rolls and I need to get several of those each visit. Other items I have tried have been their seasonal chicken hand pie and spring quiche, all amazing. Make sure you get more than one of whatever you choose because once you eat it, you will certainly be wanting more!

Chris M. Rougier

The best sausage roll ever!!!! What ever quantity you going to buy, double it! So good!

Barbershop Patisserie is hands down the best place in the city for puff pastry!! Not to mention the cakes and chocolate chip cookies. With some classic staples as well as new seasonal items, you'll be visiting weekly before you know it. Saturdays are nothing without a sausage roll and lemon bichon! I ordered the Bourbon Pumpkin Cheesecake for Thanksgiving weekend and I can't wait...

Loved my trip to Barbershop! From the cookies to the incredible sausage rolls, everything was amazing. Jill is clearly a master at what she does. I bought two of everything thinking it would last through the week but we couldn't resist and it was all eaten within 24 hours. Can't recommend highly enough!

Danielle Nicholls

All I can say is - wow! Hands down the best pastries I've had. From the perfect chocolate chip cookies to the caramelized lemon bichon to flaky handmade sausage rolls, this place is a dream. And, the cakes!! They should be on the cover of a magazine - I love the way they thoughtfully incorporate fresh, seasonal flavours into such decadent masterpieces. This is a must-visit shop in Toronto.

To begin with I’m not a huge desert fan but it’s nice to have a little treat once in a while. This is they best chocolate cake I’ve ever had in my life! The only option available is to buy a whole cake. The cake itself is not that big and it does freeze well however I guarantee you you won’t be freezing any because it’s so delicious! You immediately become aware that only the best quality ingredients and love were used making this cake. I highly highly recommend it it’s amazing! Keep up the good and delicious work!

Legit all the pastries were delicious in their own way. Lemon Bichon nice flaky pastry with a subtle lemon taste. Apple Chausson - caramel apple taste with a nice pastry texture. Chicken Pot Pie - very good flavour Sausage Roll - flaky pastry with a savoury tasting sausage.

Daren Pelipel

Just wow. Had the pepperoni pizza puff, sausage roll and blueberry pastry and they were the best pastries I've ever had! They are pricey but the quality is pretty immaculate if you ask me. Can't wait to try it all.

Vicky Tran

This little shop is an absolute gem. Jill is an master at her craft and you can tell by how much care she puts into all of her offerings. It is deliberately limited menu which ensures the utmost quality, but believe me when i tell you you would be hard pressed to not love everything you try. My absolute favourites are the lemon bichon, "chippy" (her chocolate chip cookie), the hand held pies and the chocolate cake - which I've now gotten twice to celebrate birthdays. GO HERE and get ALLL the things !

Namita Karir

Try the Lemon Bichon... you will not be disappointed!

Chloe Steeper

Hands down the best chocolate chip cookie I’ve ever had (warm, gooey, crisp, chocolatey)! The pastries are buttery and flakey and the staff are some of the nicest and most talented people in the business.

We lineup every Saturday! delicious friendly staff we keep coming back for more! Love the lemon bichon, Need to try the chocolate cake next! One of the best chocolate chip cookies in the city

This is a great place. The pastries are fresh and seasonal. The menu is created with a lot of love and skill. I always recommend this spot to friends and fam and it’s one of our favourite new shops in the city. Keep up the great work Jill!

minnie chan

Excellent pastries both sweet and savoury! I've only been here once but will definitely be returning. My favourite is the chocolate cake which sounds simple enough but I've never tasted something so rich in chocolate that feels so light at the same time. Actually blew me away! The sausage roll was another winner!

Paul Cartwright

We got the apple mille-feuille as a treat over the holidays -- it was exceptional. Flavourful, fluffy and wowed our guests. Highly recommend that cake and this spot ???????? ????????????????

Natalie Taylor

A wonderful new bakery on College West. Come for the sausage roll, stay for the chicken pot pie hand pie and chocolate chip cookie. Lemon Bichon wasn't my fave but always worth a try to see if you like it. Perfect spot for a pastry crawl or an on-the-go snack. Make sure to buy two because you'll want to bring them home and have extras for another day. The pastry is really bar none - so flaky and buttery. Lucky to have it in the city.

Amira Becarevic

Beautiful selection of seasonal pastries and especially loved the lemon bichon. Their cakes are also outstanding quality and very well balanced. Everything I’ve had has been stellar- would highly recommend! Great addition to the neighborhood!

Lemon Bichon. One of the most delicious things in the city right now. OMG.

Riona Coller

Outstanding pastries and cakes! The lemon meringue cake is really delicate and soft. The Eaton mess strawberry cheesecake is just amazing. Love all the pastries. Get as many as you can - you can't go wrong.

Santravelz

Lemon bichon, sausage roll, chicken roll and strawberry rhubarb turnover were delicious! If you crave something really decadent, then the chocolate fudge cake is a must get item!

Benjamin Rayner

My go to place for every cake in my life. The cookies are the best in the city and really I've been blown away by everything I've tried. The service is always friendly. The Mushroom puff! The Lemon Bichon!

Brian Salera

Lemon Bichon is a must try. Perfect outer crust flakiness and soft pastry inside with a subtle lemon curd. Amazing pastry

It was love at first bite. This is my favourite bakery to emerge out of 2020. It’s simply puff pastry paradise here. I first visited the shop back in December (2020), and have returned on multiple occasions (I might be a regular here lol). This is one of my top 2 favourite places in Toronto. And I love recommending Barbershop Patisserie to friends and colleagues. Honestly everything here is delicious - and the Pastry Chef & Owner, Jill Barber (ex-Executive Pastry Chef from Paradise on Bloor and ex-Head Pastry Chef from Black Bird Baking Co.) is incredibly talented and kind. It’s the kind of small business I love and want to support. By now, you must have heard about the famous Sausage Rolls here - I’ll confirm they are the best in the city (the pastry and the housemade sausage are equally delicious). And you must have also heard about the famous, and incredibly unique, Lemon Bichon. It’s truly phenomenal!! And don’t discount any of Jill’s other creations - from the Chicken Pot Hand Pie to the rotating/seasonal veg puff pastry options (Squash & Goat Cheese, Beets & Boursin, Rhubarb & Ginger, Ramps with Peas & Ricotta), to THE Chocolate Chip Cookie (the cookie that made me love choco cookies), to the Cakes... You really can’t go wrong here! The bakery space is also super cute. It’s a wonderful addition to the Toronto food scene. It’s a place I’ll keep visiting and keep supporting. Because we need more small businesses like this - unique, high quality offerings run by kind people ❤️

Andrew

Mind blowing experience! The food was absolutely out of this world and the staff behind the counter was kind and professional. I have never had puff pastry that was as crispy and buttery and flaky as this before. When you walk in, you smell butter strongly and that is a great sign for a patisserie! Strongly recommend this :)

The cookies and Lemon Bichon are A+.

Caley

The most delicious pastry I have ever had. highly recommend.

Jam Bernardo

Got the sausage roll and chicken pot pie. Tasty treat, wish there was more chicken filling though. Def heat it up if you’re eating at home. I also came back and got the rhubarb tart, lemon bichon and tart flambé. All of them are so so good. Bumped up my original rating from 4 to 5. I also really wanted to try the spring tart with the peas, but they didn’t have it. Hopefully next time.

Michelle Eats

Please check this place out and try every item!!! My fav was the lemon bichon, it was crispy and tart!!!!

Found out about this place through a BlogTO article where I saw some unique looking desserts and was able to read about Jill's impressive track record. The pastries are really good! I live in Scarborough and most weekends I drive down in the morning to get an espresso, some snacks, and go for a walk. It's not much of an outing but its all we can do during Covid, and I actually look forward to it every Sunday - it's that good! Jill has a good variety of items (sweet and savory) - apple chausson, chicken pot hand pie, and the spiced squash are my favorites so far. Looking forward to seeing some new varieties in the future. A TAD pricey but it's high quality. My only suggestion (and maybe this will be an option in a post-covid world) is to allow customers to get their pastry warmed up slightly - sometimes they are cold.

Maggie L.

Such spectacular pastries - some of my faves in the city. The sausage roll here sells out so quickly and I totally see why - I'm a huge sausage roll fan and went ga-ga for the crispy flaky layers of pastry stuffed with perfectly spiced meat. I also tried the roasted beet and goat cheese pastry with toasted hazelnuts which had a beautiful combination of flavours too - that layers of creamy goat cheese hidden underneath the beets was such a delightful surprise. Lastly the hazelnut fudge cake was so decadent and moist, and not very sweet - it was a perfect finish to my little three-course pastry feast.

Derek Fox

JJ Jordan

The sausage rolls!! The cookies!! Just go get some.

Alexander M

The lemon bichon took me to another planet. Out of this world. Wow. Also, amazing service. The customer infront of me cleared out the counter despite me waiting patiently to buy my partner a few treats for his birthday (she was pretty shameless). However, one of the sweet bakers let me know which treats were coming out next so I was able to make an order and return shortly to pick up :) DEFINITELY will be coming back.

Justin Jones-Ward

So good that I had a dream about it that night. Next time I’ll get at least two sausage rolls.

Ting Ting Pan

Love this shop! Sausage rolls are amazing, so are chicken pies, lemon bichon, and the specialty cakes (whenever they’re available). Can’t really go wrong with anything from here since the team that runs this place puts so much love and attention into everything that they make.

Rebecca Eacho

My favorite bakery in Toronto. The puffs are delicious! Highly recommend any of the items on the menu (and I've tried just about all of them...several times lol).

Carole Wang

Recommend the lemon bichon- a caramelized crispy lemon custard filled pastry. Very nice indeed. We also tried the popular OG sausage roll, and while the sausage was very nice for $5.65 plus tax, this is a bit pricy. It was not out of this world. For the price, I would not recommend and am baffled at the other reviews praising this item. Makes Toronto a very confusing place to try things when everyone is extremely generous with their ratings. I want to be honest and not disparage this patisserie. Come for their sweets. Lastly we tried the chocolate chip cookie straight out of the oven and it was not amazing, just a solid cookie. Again, a bit pricy. The service is very good.
