I was told to go here by the owner of The Mermaid, he said his favorite breakfast in Cape Breton was Flavor or Kay's Kozy Korner. Being from Sydney, I'm surprised I've never eaten here before! I remember growing up making fun of this place because they chose a name that spells KKK. Probably time for a name chance honestly. It's across the street from the Steel City, but I was told not to park there as you might get towed by the owner. The interior looks really nice, very cozy! They have wifi, but it's a very complicated password. I asked the owner if they wanted me to change the password to something more memorable, but they passed. The staff were very nice and friendly. The benches were very uncomfortable actually, I had to move to a table and chairs. The benches were too straight, sitting in their benches was very staining. The breakfast and coffee was great! Their fries are really unique, they are done like homestyle chips. Unfortunately mine tasted like they were made in a big batch and reheated, they were not crisp and hot like some other pictures/reviews I saw...they were floppy and warm. This place is one of the better breakfast diners in Sydney - basic menu but a notch above, worth a visit.

A classic diner that more than lives up to its reputation as a local institution. The staff are among the friendliest on the island and always have a fresh pot of coffee in hand. The menu includes all the diner staples, and because they’re open to substitutions, it’s also veg friendly (I had the omelette without ham, French toast, and home fries, which are a particular standout). The prices are very reasonable and the portions are healthy. On top of all that, at Kay’s you can eat in at one of the last vintage diners in the Maritimes (Jasper’s lives on in our hearts), which looks and feels the same as it did decades ago, in the best way possible. Everything inside is clean and covid-safe, including barriers between booths. A must!

This is a great little spot, especially for breakfast. All the meals I have had here were delicious. The waitresses are very friendly, the service is quick and the food is priced fairly. There are a lot of regular customers and the atmosphere is very welcoming and community like.

Terrible quality and over priced food! First and last time I'll go there. Ordered a cheeseburger and fries, the burger alone was 4.99 and was smaller than a happy meal burger...I was amazed they'd serve something like that!

Pretty sure what we ate was a janes chicken burger, smaller than a McDonald’s jr chicken and not even good at that. 6$ for onion rings and only got 5 of them. Over 30$ bill and left hungry, it’s a joke.

This place is like you step back in time, when your local diner serves the most enjoyable comfort food!! The breakfasts are just like you think they will be!! The staff are the friendliest and sweetest you will meet!! Everyone is a darling to them or a sweetheart!! I absolutely love this place!! The locals are part of the atmosphere at Kay's!! Just sitting back and listening to the happy chatter is part of the experience!! This is what I want when I go to enjoy a homestyle meal. Of course you get the modern food, like burgers, wings and such. But no place makes an, "over easy egg", like Kay's! Even though I'm not a local, and only get there if I have to be in Sydney, I love the girls and their food!! Please don't change the way you do things!! Change is not always good!! :)

We went her for first time and wont be back. Cook was very rude and loud. Our order was messed up they put mustard on it . So we sent it back and they scrapped it off and gave it back to us, never made a new one and said thats should be better when it came back. I found a hair in mine. Really disappointing for local business.
