The smell was out of this world. The welcome wasn’t warm. Waited several mins to have anyone come help. Great looking items. Some nice cakes with rich flavors but left a sour taste for me.

Easily the best of the best when it comes to cakes in Winnipeg, Manitoba and I would even say, Canada. Doug and Betty are some of the kindest people I know and will go that extra mile to make sure your cake is perfect. Their cakes are just as good to eat as they look. So much care goes into your cake, they want to make sure it is perfect for you. As a Wedding Photographer, I have had the pleasure with working with Doug and Betty on numerous occasions and all of my couples say the same thing, "Wow, my cake looks amazing,! I can't believe they did this! It looks too good to eat! This is the best tasting cake I have ever had!" Do yourself a favour and order your next, Birthday, Anniversary, Bar-Mitzvah, It's Tuesday and I want an awesome cake, or wedding cake from Doug and Betty at Chocolate Zen, you will seriously be blown away (and they do gluten free too!)

Wonderful place for baked goods, amazing staff, the owners are a delight. What a hidden gem right in the middle of South Osborne. LGBT friendly, in fact they are a member of the Manitoba lgbt chamber of commerce. Wish I remembered to visit more frequently!

Business hours until 5pm. I got there at 4:40 and the door was locked despite the open sign on, open sign on the sidewalk, and open sign showing the hours being until 5. Employee walking around working inside. Was stopping on the way home to grab a brithday cake. I guess its Safeway cake for us tonight.

Went with this place on recommendation of MANY people for our wedding cake/cupcakes. Initial tasting was 50/50...adorable little tasting area and the cake samples were to DIE for but the cupcakes were rock hard, literally we couldn't even cut into them with the plastic knife. Made a comment to the lovely girl hosting the tasting and was told the sample cupcakes were made the morning before (over 24 hours old) but were assured the cupcakes would be fresh for our wedding day. Made a comment in a wedding group about the cupcakes and ended up making another appointment for tasting to make up for the hockey puck cupcake experience The second tasting was PERFECT.. the cupcakes were DELICIOUS. A lady came out of the back and started confronting me about my comments about how the cupcakes were not good and how "she didnt want to hear or see another comment online"...very threatening and off putting. Ended up still booking with them. Day of the wedding the cake and cupcakes were delivered on time with no issue and everything looked lovely. I didn't end up tasting any of the cupcakes or cake but people RAVED about the two different flavors of cake but people had mixed reviews of the cupcakes . We had a mix of a few flavors of regular and mini sized cupcakes but were told some of them were inedible bc of the dryness... All in all it's a nicely little bakery, cute decor and nice and clean but the attitude and aggresive nature of the woman in the back combined with the disappointing cupcakes make it a no go for us ever again. Highly recommend any other bakery for cupcakes...

I have recommended this place to everyone I know getting married because they are so reasonably priced, and taste incredible! I have been back several times for their mini chocolates which are amazing bites of flavor!

I have had there Gluten free lemon raspberry cake twice now for family events and it’s the best gluten free cake I have ever had. People couldn’t tell the difference. It’s so soft and not grainy. 10/10 recommend for anyone who has a gluten allergy!

Our bakery of choice for family birthdays, and special occasions. Cakes are delicious and beautiful. Love the squares available in the showcase. My favourite is the Raspberry Cheesecake Brownie. Staff are always friendly and accommodating.

We've been ordering all of our cakes from Chocolate Zen for about 10 years, and they've never once been anything less than stellar. Their cakes and other baked delights are absolutely delicious, reasonably priced, and they do some absolutely outstanding chocolate work. Over the years, I've had Wolverine, various Pokémon, and even a cartoon pickle grace the top of cakes. We had our wedding cake from here, as well as their cupcakes, and they've always been on time and simply perfect. World-class bakers right in South Osborne. Give them a try, but just know that nothing else will compare afterward!

NOT, I repeat NOT gluten free! Do not under any circumstances trust this bakery to safely provide a gluten free product. Went in to buy a small torte for my birthday cake. Asked the clerk at the front what was gluten free. She pointed out several items that were in open containers with gluten containing products such as chocolate dipped pretzels. When I pointed out that they are now cross-contaminated, she rolled her eyes & said "we aren't a gluten free facility". Yes, I understand that, but I do expect food professionals to understand cross-contamination. At this point someone from the back came out to give direction on what was gluten free. I was given 3 options, I picked the raspberry lemon torte. Fast forward to today, when I cut into my birthday cake that was supposed to be white truffle, and discover its a sponge cake. Thanks, Chocolate Zen Bakery, for the overpriced cake that I'm told by the people who were able to eat it was very delicious. Thanks, also, for making me watch others eat my birthday cake because you sold me something that was poison to me. Stop advertising as gluten free unless you actually care if it's gluten free. I'm not eating gf because it's a fad. Almost a year later - and thanks for not even once bothering to respond to me. I think that says everything there is to say about your commitment to your customers.

We order an $82 cake for a long awaited birthday party from chocolate zen only to learn on the day of the event that it was burnt. We also ordered bakery items that turned out incredibly old and inedible. The cookies were bricks and the cheesecake was yellow on top that’s how old it was. These items should of never been sold. Even though we explained the situation to the owner, we ended up with a partial refund. We still had to pay for decorations on the cake they burnt. I’d suggest to never deal with this business again. I’d hate to be a bride and deal with a burnt cake on my wedding day.

Their lemon raspberry cake has been my favorite for years. Well, I finally tried something new and went for their Zuccotto slice. HEAVEN! I didn't even know that it was gluten free. This bakery has the most gourmet cakes and desserts I have tried in Winnipeg... by far!

Last weekend Justine Kelley has sent me a post that they were having a Mother’s Day cake. And I ordered one. It was the 6” Neapolitan cake. I picked it up yesterday May the 9. And my family had a early Mother’s Day celebrations that night as we couldn’t wait to try the cake. It was so yummy and my little daughter said it was super yummy and the cookie on top was too. Never knew about this place until a work function required me to pick up treats for the staff. Very good sweets and a huge variety for such a small storefront. They make tarts, cakes, truffles, cookies and everything else you can imagine. Parking is difficult but the food is wonderful.
