We have been ordering celebration cakes from Wild Earth for the past 10 years, originally at their 99th street location, then at the Enjoy Centre. They were our favorite cakes, and we would recommend them to all our friends and family. Over the last couple of years, we noticed the quality was not the same. We were informed that their baker had changed. We remained loyal and continued to order cakes here.
Unfortunately, the last cake we ordered will probably be our last due to the service and the quality of the cake. I ordered the Caramel Crunch cake. The main attraction of this cake is the delicious sponge toffee topping. The cake I picked up had shrivelled up pieces of toffee a fraction of the size they should be, and there was an oily film dripping over the ganache. I told the young lady working at the till that this isn't how it's suppose to look. I have ordered this cake in the past and know from past experience that when I refrigerated the leftovers, the sponge toffee shrivelled and melted. The lady said this is how they have always looked since she started working there!!! I pulled up pics from previous cakes I ordered there as well as their own website to show her how the cake should look. Unfortunately, the bakery did not have extra sponge toffee for me to swap out the shrivelled dripping pieces. She suggested I reach out to the baker to express my concerns, which I did. The baker said that she knew that this is what happens when you refrigerate sponge toffee, and moving forward she would put the topping on when customers pick up to prevent all that. I was disappointed that she was aware of this issue but never thought to take the extra step to do something about it until I brought it up?? I mean, the young lady working the counter said this is how they always looked to her since she started!
Well, I wish I could say that the cake was delicious like I remembered, but it wasn't. There was probably just as much buttercream as there was cake. And the cake was so dry. Not at all like how they used to be. I have added pictures of what the cake looked like...
