The Modern is for me more cafe than bakeshop with a fridge full of wraps and sandwiches in addition to quite a lengthy list of breakfast/lunch and drink items on the wall. Of course, that's not to say they don't also have a selection of cakes, squares and baked goods. A bit too sweet at times, but a nice stop along Hwy 1 or when you happen to be in Revelstoke. -- "Mimi's Cake Tour"

Good coffee, smiling staff and delicious baked goods. If I can offer one piece of advice for travellers - Get the Ginger Elixir if you have a cold or need an immune boost! It’s delicious, and always makes me feel better. They make the elixirs in house and they come out piping hot - warm to hold on a cold day, and good for you. Bathrooms are clean. It does feel a bit tight inside The Modern, but the management and staff are doing well with the space they have.

Kindest baristas ever! Wonderful quiche, pastries excellent. I thought I ordered a matcha latte, when they came with a coffee latte they replaced it for free no questions asked! They took the trouble even though they were so busy. No wonder locals love this place.

Friendly and welcoming with nice clean washrooms. Definitely worth a visit if stopping by the beautiful downtown of historic Revelstoke.

The good... Good sized bakery with lots of choices of fresh bread, pastries, desserts, etc. They serve breakfast and lunch and have a few tables to sit at to dine inside, but they have a nice outdoor patio out front to dine al fresco. Service was really good as well! The bad... None! The ugly... None! Will return? Oh yes, for more breakfast sandwiches especially! Try the Farmer's Daughter egg sandwich—super good!

I just had lunch at this cafe and was blown away by the quality of the food. The soup of the day was gluten free, vegan and dairy free, a lemony split pea soup and it was fantastic! It came with a gluten free piece of bread, and I ordered a green salad as well, with their signature green goddess dressing. All of it was just delicious, and if you're looking for options for dietary needs, this is a great place to find lots of that! Their coffee was excellent as well, and local! Stoke Roasted coffee beans. Loved it!

Service was below expectations, I would go somewhere else. We came in with our mugs to get coffee. I even showed them the mug while paying and they didn't even ask if I wanted it filled, instead they give me a paper cup, not very environmentally conscience. They had two brews and they didn't ask me which one I wanted and just gave me a random one. They offered the guy after me both options. I ordered a wrap and it was cold. I asked if they could panini press it and they said they couldn't. Thought that was odd but that's fine, so I asked if they could nuke it quickly and they said no. I would not recommend this place.

The Modern is my go to place. I like to go eat lunch there at least once a week. It's a great place to eat delicious food or drinks, meet some new people, relax on a saturday afternoon, read a good book with a really nice and warm cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate and enjoy one of their amazing treats. I can be a little crowded sometimes but it is nothing but proof of the extreme appeal of the place. The employees are always nice, and the place always feels like home. To me at least. Now it's your turn to try it for yourself, and completely fall in love with the place!

In the past few weeks I've had the pleasure of eating at The Modern Bakeshop and Cafe on two occasions, both of which exceeded my expectations! I highly recommend to sausage rolls and chocolate cake, both of which (like everything else served here) is baked fresh on premises. Kushal and his team do a fantastic job, so visit them soon! Hands down the best coffee in Revy, and possibly one of the best lattes I’ve ever had. You’ll probably have to wait (the place is popular with tourists and locals) but I promise it’s worth it. Worth the detour in to Revelstoke even if you’re just passing through. The power cookie got me through the first 6km of the Eva lake hike! We’ll be back!

Amazing baked goods and coffee. Freshly baked bread backstops everything else about the Modern, but you’ll need to be quick as they sell out fast. Start with coffee, try some breakfast, then peruse the treats. Cheesecake, cinnamon buns, muffins, slices and cookies - how do you decide? There’s a lunch menu too, but really, who has room after cheesecake!

Went here due to the positive posted reviews. Breakfast sandwich was from the day before. Bottom half of bread was mushy and the bacon chewy, didn't finish eating it. Bought a pound of coffee which I asked to be ground. Realized the next day after getting into the backcountry it was still half full of whole beans. Interesting press sized coffee! Shop was not busy, but looked like the staff were struggling to keep up. Many other places to try in Revy!

A very convenient and and cozy coffee shop and bakery, the entire place feels like a home and it really makes you feel comfortable, everyone is very social and it's not too busy so it's quiet and nice. The food is amazing, it doesn't taste artificial, it taste natural and homemade. The choices are vast and I'm sure they'll have something you want, this is a hidden gem and I'd recommend anyone in town to come, or if you're driving to or back from Kelowna or Vancouver this is a great place to stop by

The space is cute but noisy, even when only half-filled. My latte showed up with mediocre foam, and only faint coffee flavour. When the server/barista dropped it off (table delivery if you order cooked food) I said a cheerful thanks, and received no reply. About ten minutes later my breakfast croissant arrived, this time I got a "you're welcome," at least. The croissant was flaky and nice, but being toasted it was very messy. The scrambled egg as fluffy, but unseasoned, the sliced tomatoes fresh but flavourless, the slice of bacon very bland. Melted cheddar was undetectable, flavour-wise. The only condiment was mayo, which would be fine if the rest of the sandwich had flavour, but left it all incredibly bland. While sitting here, I did notice a significantly different attitude from the staff toward the locals, greeting them by name in many cases, smiling and friendly. Perhaps they just get tired of visitors and tourists? Either way, I'll check out a different cafe for breakfast tomorrow.

Great spot for coffee and food. We sometimes stop here when driving through and are always happy with the results. Can be very busy at lunch and there isn't a lot of room when it gets busy. Staff are always friendly. The wait for your food can be a bit long at times but nothing terrible. Definitely worth the visit.

My wife and I were checking out downtown Revelstoke when we came across this gem. We saw a line up out the door so had to have a look and we are sure glad we did. Great selection of pastries and breakfast items,as well as coffee of course. We split the breakfast croissant and a piece of carrot cake. We will definitely be going back here to try some more tasty treats.

Stopped at this lovely local bake shop in Revelstoke on route to the Okanagan and it will most definitely be a shop we stop at again. They have a great vibe and lots if tasty lunch and breakfast options as well as delectable pastries and coffees. We got the chicken turnovers which were dense, flavourful and so enjoyable. They are practically a samosa and the perfect lunch portion. The pumpkin cream cheese loaf was an excellent blend of spices, pumpkin and cream cheese swirl and the cold brew was refreshing, well brewed for the perfect cold brew strength and we loved it. The baristas were so energetic and welcoming and this is definitely a stop worth making each time you are in the area.

Very popular spot in Revelstoke, baked goods look fantastic and the Americano was excellent. Great location with some tables outside. Unfortunately the server at the cash register seemed rude and was non helpful in taking my order, Getting a glass of water seemed awkward as it is a little confusing with the water station part way into the kitchen, also the WiFi seemed hard to connect but once in it was good.

I stopped by The Modern this morning for a coffee and treat. I have always enjoyed this little gem of a café and thought I would provide a review that may assist the bakeshop in developing their team and approach to customer service. When we popped in today we were cautious (the global pandemic thing) only to find an unmasked woman blocking the only means of ordering and chatting at length about her friend who has a mountain bike or something. We waited as we thought she was still ordering. The woman working behind the counter just stood there with her mouth open, which I find to be quite typical of customer service in the Nelson to Revelstoke corridor. No movement. No life. Just gapped right out. After about five minutes we asked if we could order and this brought the café employee back to our world. She took our order and then handed us our coffees. No pleasantries. No anything. I just stood there for a while, again, and then asked if she would be getting the pastries I ordered “oh yeah…forgot”, but there was no one in line and she wasn’t doing anything. I just don’t get it. People come in with money to spend and have to deal with this kind of staffing. On another note, the pastries/food are always delicious and I will totes be going back but would go anywhere else comparable if I didn't have to deal with the gapper-style approach to customer service.

The best coffee in town. The 'Mod', as it's called by the locals, is often very busy but with good reason. Amazing (and healthy) sandwiches, salads, melts, wraps, soups, savory treats, sweet treats, fresh baked bread, and daily specials. Most ingredients are sourced locally and almost everything is prepared in house. If you're there in the morning, try The Modern Farmer (or Farmer's Daughter if you're vegetarian) breakfast sandwhich and a cup of near-locally roasted coffee. For lunch, try a foccacia melt and salad combo with house-brewed iced tea. Did I also mention you can order the most killer cakes from here too?

We have visited this place many times on road trips taking us through Revelstoke, mostly recently this past September. It impressed us very much the first time, years ago, and it hasn't failed us since. The food has always been good quality, with lots of variety, the cafe is in an old building so it's got lots of character, which I like, and they have outdoors seating. I just wish they were open 7 days a week because we've driven through on occasion and couldn't visit it.

Stopped in for a coffee on our way from BC to Alberta. Big mistake. The machiato I got sucked. It was literally a cup of syrup that I tossed out. The gluten free brownie we got seemed stale, so much so that we had to throw it away. Literally, we threw away over $10. Avoid this place.

It was pretty tasty. I had a "decadentsia" brownie, which was very sweet. And a mocha, which was rich! It was quite expensive, but I guess that's normal, since it's located in a tourist town/village.

It's ok. Crazy busy. We came because of the good reviews. Place is cute, and the dessert I had was good and looked awesome. The quiche, ham and cheese, was just ok. The vegetarian quiche we had tasted like water. My London fog tea was probably the worst I ever had. Made with cold milk and barely steeped it was not enjoyable. Try a different cafe.

Well worth the short wait in line. The food is fresh and delicious, the desserts are decedent! The staff are welcoming and service is quick, the facilities are clean and very nice. My only note would be that the patio area out front is situated around trees that have grates around their trunks. Be careful not to let your chair leg slip into one of these... It happened to us and nearly cause a fall.

I'm quite surprised to see high reviews, cranky staff and the owner is mega rude....I thought maybe it being crowded just meant it was a great place to go not worth it for me....do not recommend. Also not gluten friendly, I don't eat out because of contamination but even when I asked about an ingredient in a beverage they(including and especially the owner) were rude, one girl was helpful but still seemed miserable to be answering my question.

Came here because of good reviews. Wasn't impressed. Coffee is average, americano was watery with not enough flavor. The place is crowded and busy. And unfortunately the employees allow that to affect the way they deal with customers. Hope they smile more.

I had a maple latte and a beef barely soup! The staff here are friendly and it was the best soup I have ever had. Not to salty and a beautiful amount of flavor and spice! My husband had a turkey snitzel panini and he said it had alot of flavour and a little kick of heat which he likes! If I am in the area I will be returning for sure!
