Right off the Confederation Bridge is a little house that hand pies built. The owner/operators obviously love what they do, and their enthusiasm is apparent. The meat pies themselves were delicious and complex. I tried the beef/mozzarella and the Acadian pork/potatoe pie. Both were brilliant. I tried the potato salad and it wasn't to my taste (I just don't like mustard, and I'm an idiot and didn't ask if there was any in it.) I would like to add a +1 to the idea of dessert pies. After eating my pie I had a craving for an apple pie. It seems like a natural fit for the place, really. I would pay five bucks for an apple handpie in a second. Everything said, I would eat here once a week if I could. Thanks for the great first impression of PEI!

Awesome pies! The pastry is light and crispy. The chicken pot pie was moist and delicious with real vegetables. The cheese potato has a perfect blend of spices. Best thing, you have the option of taking a hand pie to eat on the way or taking some home to bake later.

I assumed there was going to be pies in the traditional sense (apple, strawberry, blueberry etc.) but did not find that here. Instead there are meat and veggie pies in a pocket style serving. Ingredients were good though and the pastry was strong enough to hold it together but soft to eat. If they had some fruit pies I would give it a five star rating.

Note the new location! Just head to Summerside from the Albany interchange - it is on the left. A nice big building now with clear walls so you can watch the production - cool idea!! And they have 9 different pies now - not the "4 or 5" someone mentioned - with a new addition of a Breakfast Handpie!! All of them are delicious with a flaky, tasty crust. Gotta get me some handpies again!

Sweet mother of mercy of all that is good on this green earth. You need to stop here and pick up whatever you want. Full stop. We tried one, ended up leaving with six. This is a meal, a snack, and tomorrow's lunch. This is likely going to explode nationally, so stop here and get the real deal before anyone else does. Practically worth visiting to PEI for, and for us who live here this is unreal. I wish there was a bit of a write-up on the history behind it (outlander? Experiments?) but honestly wow. Update: took some home, still good but nothing like from the factory. PLEASE put celsius temperature on the instructions for home baking!

Stopped in because I was looking for a cup of coffee for the road. Left with an apple handpie. It was everything I didn't know I needed. Lucky for me it was fresh out of the oven too! The girl behind the counter (I think she was the owner?) was super lovely and answered all my ridiculous handpie questions. A must try on your visit to PEI!! Oh, and the coffee was also excellent.

Pies were delicious, a little Mecca of flavour just as you enter PEI and we got a sticky bun for later (only baked of Fridays and Saturdays). By far the best we have had in New Brunswick / PEI combined, quite possibly anywhere in the world. Go for the pies, stay for their buns.

The handpies here are DELICIOUS. They are fresh, flavourful, and filling. However they are quite expensive ($8 for frozen/$8.50 for take out) and the location is quite a hike out of Charlottetown. I’d like them to offer them out of the Charlottetown Farmer’s Market and have a deal for buying multiple frozen pies at once.

Instagram is the devil. This place showed up in my IG feed about two months ago as a "Suggested Page". It was food related, so I obviously started following it. Since then, I have been dreaming of visiting some day - as we live a short, 4 hour drive away. When our trip to Chicago was canceled in September, we decided to do a staycation to PEI instead - 90% because I wanted to try this place. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Today my dreams came true. We popped in and bought a chicken pot pie and a PEI pasty, as well as a strawberry rhubarb one. My husband, who grew up in the UK, is consistently disappointed when places claim to sell 'authentic pasties'. There's a few key details people often miss - the pastry, the filling ratio, the flavors and the crimping! Guys - this place knocks them out of the park. You'll notice there isn't a photo of my husbands, and that's because he inhaled it. He said this was the best pasty he's had outside of the UK - and in fact, it rivals some of his favourites from back home. The fillings are flavourful and well portioned, made with real ingredients. The chicken literally melted in my mouth. But the pastry on these ... is the most beautiful thing. Crispy, flaky deliciousness. 10/10. Fun fact : the kitchen is open! So you can see them making pies. Aside from the actual products, I love knowing that we are supporting a local, community minded business run by a team of staff that work like family. They sell other local products in their little shop too, which strengthens the local small business community. The owner was so kind and patient while I counted down the days to our visit, shared some of the company's history, and made sure there was a hot strawberry rhubarb pie waiting for me when we arrived. Please go to this place. Try everything. Ask questions. Take some home. But also, don't say its "too far away". I'd drive back in a heartbeat. Update - just finished eating the sweet pie (strawberry rhubarb) and it is the most delicious pie related thing I have ever eaten. It is better than my own ????

Hands down the best place to grab a casual bite to eat. I have tried the braised beef and mozzarella, pulled pork, cheese burger and chick pea and curry. They were delicious. I always enjoy stopping and taking some of the frozen pies home to NS with me. I wish I could fill my hand pie obsession more often. Bring your pies to NS :) convienent new location right off the highway.

Please update your hours to match the sign on your door. Your website says open daily 10-6 year round - your store sign says you are open daily 10-6 SUMMER ONLY (So what are your opening/closing dates for the season?) We planned our meals around visiting your store to load up on your handpies before heading to our destination on PEI’s north shore. We were very disappointed when we had rushed from Quebec City to Albany to stock up before you closed at 6:00 only to find a vacated building and “Summers Only” sign on the door. Please update your hours and dates for Summer hours on your website for off-island customers so we can enjoy your handpies. Thank you.

Great spot!!!! They have hot and ready to go hand pies, frozen hand pies, special drinks like Blueberry Cream Soda, dessert handpies, and cookies. They don't serve salads or raw veggies. The idea is you take their handpies to grab and go, or eat them at their picnic tables outside. The Potato, cheese, and onion handpie was fabulous!! The pastry is homemade and wonderful!! Don't miss this one!! The Chicken Pot pie filling was ok, but not great. For dessert, they had apple and strawberry handpies, or you could get cookies (Chocolate Chip Pecan, Chocolate Crinkle, or Ginger Molasses). The Chocolate Chip Pecan one looked over baked, so I was wary of buying it despite being recommended by someone, but being over baked worked to its advantage. Delicious! The Chocolate Crinkle was super moist, but somehow sticky with a slightly odd flavour. The Ginger Molasses needed to be less dry and have more sugar in it. They also had Bacon Cheeseburger, Curried Chick Pea, and Pulled Pork handpies. I would definitely come again for a Potato Cheese, and Onion handpie and the chocolate chip pecan cookies! Yum!!! BTW, the handpies are large! One is enough for me! My hubby just had one too. Each handpie was $8.50, but the potato one was worth it! I am craving the Cheesy Potato + Onion handpie since I got home! I wish the Handpie company was in Ontario!!!

Just tried on our way off the Island and we are sooo glad we stopped. We tried the taco and chickpea warm and had to go back in to buy some frozen ones to bring home. So delicious- flaky, so flavourful..utterly droolworthy. Completely worth the stop on and off the Confederation bridge. Also, the staff/owner was absolutely lovely and personable- made the experience even better. Highly recommend!! Thank you so much. (Ate too quickly to take a pic, whoops)!

I had heard of this place all the way over in Nova Scotia, so when visiting PEI I made sure to stop in. They did not disappoint! Hearty, savoury pies in a variety of flavours. A freezer stocked full of take-home pies as well as fresh, warm, ready-to-eat pies! And the fun part? They're hand pies! Just grab and go! I had the delicious Acadian Pork Tourtière and also purchased an additional 10 frozen handpies in several different varieties to take home to my family in Nova Scotia!

We asked for directions to a good place to eat as soon as we arrived on Prince Edward Island and were directed to The Handpie Company located at the Gateway Village. We were definitely not disappointed with the location, the friendly service and attention from owner and chef, Sarah, and the wonderful taste of a pulled pork Cornish pastry. This is a handpie that is a half moon, baked pastry filled with meat and/or root vegetables. It was a real treat and we plan to return for another special meal.
