We've got all the opinions of real people like you who purchased the services and products of Kawartha Buttertart Factory - Douro (Bakery) in Peterborough area (Canada).
Currently the business receives a score of 4.7 stars over 5 and the rating has been calculated on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is nearly the best, and it is based on a large number of feddbacks, so we may be quite sure that the valuation is quite accurate. If many people have bothered to rate when they've done well with the service, is that it works.
You know that we do not usually stop to write tatings when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Bakery is included in the category of Bakery.
Excellent Buttertarts they are how Buttertarts should always be not too sweet, not runny and have a delicious crusty shell with plenty of raisins
This place made me a buttertart convert. Super tasty and fresh. We showed up around 2:30 and they were still make them fresh. I wouldn't say it wasn't cheap ($3.50 each) but as a treat, definately worth it.
Very tasty Butter Tarts and Pecan tarts. Very clean. During COVID-19 only 2 customers in the shop. Makes every feel safe.
Was pleasantly surprised to find a selection of flavours of gluten-free butter tarts (not just one kind)! I had the walnut and it was delicious.
We canoed down the river to town and ate lunch here. The food itself worth the trip. Fresh and such taste. Well done. The tarts are fantastic. So many choices to try. So do so. Try them all. The staff were friendly and as I use walking sticks and disabled I found them super helpful as well. I look forward to next year's camping trip and another canoe trip for lunch.
These are the butter tarts of my dreams...been on a butter tarts odyssey for 3 yrs. I think I found my paradise!! …
Friendly staff. Delicious and have gluten free butter tarts available.
My friend and I have been on a mission to try as many of the butter tart makers listed on the Kawartha Butter Tart Tour website as possible. We stopped in at this location and, while it's quite small, they had a nice variety of baked goods, even beyond their butter tart varieties. They have prepackaged mini tarts when you walk in. Full size tarts we had to order from the counter. I have to say, the pastry of these tarts is exactly the kind I like and have been trying to make. It's light and flaky and has a good structure. The tart filling is not runny and isn't too sweet. The combo of the pastry and the filling is great. Would have also liked to try their apple fritters, but unfortunately they had sold out for the day. Oh well, next time!
Buttertarts, buttertarts and buttertarts. They are self named and live up to the expectations. Lots of great varieties to choose from and include a few gluten free to choose as well. Other baked goods available too. The buttertarts I picked were so big the lid of the 6 pack tray couldn't be closed!
Best butter Tart ever! Their pies and fritters are also amazing. 100% worth blowing your Keto diet!
Stopped on my way home from Bancroft today and the wait (only about 10-15 mins) was well worth it! Excellent buttertarts and baked goods. Brought home 6 each of raisin and maple bacon and loving each of them!
This quaint little bakery serves up some awesome butter tarts. A good selection of flavors and they are huge and they taste great too. Well worth a trip if you're in the area. I will definately be stopping in again in the future.
Passed by this jem countless times...went in today...we've been missing out!! Picked up a six pack of tarts...every single flavours was delicious. Can't wait to try the sausage and pizza rolls and the fritters! Unbelievable flavours for an incredible price!!
Definitely worth a stop in. Purchased the mini sampler buttertarts and a strawberry rhubarb pie. Both very good and the tarts froze and defrosted like fresh.
The fritters here are to die for. The blueberry fritters that they make on weekends are just amazing. It's totally worth waiting in the pandemic lineup for the treats here.
My family loved the butter tarts , specifically the crust and we also got a strawberry rhubarb pie that was quite good . They want to go back already!
The butter tarts we're amazing and so are the fritters
If you like buttertarts then this place will not be a disappointment. Just a warning, it's not hard to spend a lot of money here.
We decided to have these buttertarts at our wedding instead of a cake, as we are both big buttertart fans. They were a HUGE hit! Probably one of the things we received the most compliments about from guests. Luckily we ordered extra tarts, …
I don't know what to say about the Buttertart Factory except that if you haven't been here, you need to. Pies, tarts, tea biscuits, fritters, and so much more. The shop is small but always well stocked, and the pastries are to die for. I personally recommend trying the Apple/Peach/Mango pie, if you can get one.
This is a great little cafe-bakery with some of the best sweet treats around. They also make excellent sandwiches, with great-value lunch specials. Just check their opening times before going, as they are def not an evening cafe. Baker hours are baker hours, and this is first and foremost a bakery. Coffee is brewed and kept hot in thermal dispensers, and always good.
This small bakery has a few tables for eating in and also offers soup and sandwiches. The fritters are gigantic, tasty and do not leave that fatty aftertaste. Have yet to try the butter tarts but the have several different flavours. If you are in the area or just want to go for a drive be sure to stop here. You won't be disappointed!
Amazing! So much talent put into all there food. If your looking for some delicious treats or lunch this place is a great little country kitchen with mostly deserts and pastries while serving a breakfast and lunch special.
Closed on weekends, but great food!
You won't go back to regular buttertarts after visiting the Factory. I placed my order online to ensure I got what I wanted as their inventory flies out the door. Lack of good photos is directly related to how eager we were to test them …
Very good tarts. Nice variety to choose from.
Based on reviews I've read I was really looking forward to going to the butter tart factory. The butter tarts are absolutely delicious, however it's not as clean as I would have expected and there's a cat that runs through the cooking area and the little sitting area. Not very hygienic to have a cat running through where you're cooking butter tarts. I did say to the lady at the cash "hope the inspector doesn't come by" This place has lots of potential but needs a bit of a cleaning and no cat. I wasn't looking for a Toronto cafe but I was expecting a clean little sitting area to eat.
Very small...butter tarts were ok...wouldn't go back for anything.
We grabbed half of Raspberry Pie passing by and we are sorry we bought just so little. It's on the top of all pies we ever had. Recommend it to anyone!
We made a special trip to this place. I love butter tarts and this place didn't disappoint. The tarts are large and they have a smaller option. There are many different flavours to choose from as well as original.
I was doing a job in Warsaw and decided to slip in for a butter tart, I was blown away by the selection! I went in for 1, ended up leaving with 12. The tarts are AMAZING and the staff are even better! would recommend 10/10
Quality and flavour of products is excellent along with wide selection of butter tart and pie flavours/ingredients. My only issue is the prices are perhaps a bit high. $15 for a six pack of butter tarts was something that I paid on a one-off visit through Warsaw. When I was first going into the place I was hoping that I would quickly decide that I would want to be driving out from Peterborough on a regular basis to buy tarts and pies. However the pricing creates a situation where no matter how good the product is I could not justify driving very far to buy them. But if you are already in Warsaw or traveling through then I do recommend picking some up.
Ummm...butter tarts...you can't go wrong! The pastry is unbelievable. I could probably just get a ball of pastry without the buttery creamy filli...wait, who am I kidding...but seriously, the pastry makes it!
Incredible place. Just amazing. Hard working people in this bakery making some of the most delicious things you’ll ever eat. The dozen different types of butter tarts, the chocolate brownies, the pie, the sausage rolls, the date squares, the apple fritters, I’ve eaten it all and je ne regrette rien!
Buttertarts were ok..I've had better....service not so good...this place is just ok
From the moment you walk in - the smell of just-baked-and still warm flaky pastry and oh-my-goodness-that's-delicious filling - and so many different flavours - you gotta come, just make it before 3:30pm when they close. Six stars if I could!!!
Beautiful cycle from Peterborough. The. Tarts are scrumptious and just out of the oven when we got there. I'd we could have had a piece of one of the lovely pies, the rating would be a 5. Whole pies don't trevally so well on long bike rides!
Saw this buttertart shop on the way to the caves and stopped in on the way back. There are at least a dozen flavours to choose from. My favourite was the raspberry white chocolate. Definitely a hit with the locals. All 3 tables for 2 were filled by older farm type gents. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Their fresh bread was very light and soft. Great selection of butter tarts, cinnamon rolls, and pies.
Yummy! Everything was delicious, and the coconut cream pie was to die for!
Great butter tarts,banana bread too
The maple sticky buns are excellent and the fritters are also very tasty. My only issue is that I am now most often deterred from pulling in on my way to the cottage due to the (Covid related) line-ups you can see outside the door when driving up Highway 28. If this business would like to provide better service (and sell more products!) during a pandemic, they should consider setting up a table outside during high traffic times where customers can shop/order/pay for baked goods on the fly without having to wait to enter the small store.
Amazing fritters, pies, and butter tarts! A must stop on our way to (and sometimes from) he cottage!
Absolutely fabulous, delighting taste buds and tummies at the same time. Great selection, excellent prices. You'll leave smiling ????
Bought the buttertarts for my mother in law. She was concerned about the amount of pastry at first. However she was very pleased with both the pastry and the filling. I personally didn't find the staff to be the most pleasant.
Great choices, large tarts, sold out of apple fritters sadly but next time!
I bought the butter tarts and they were absolutely delicious. I will definitely purchase them again the next time I am in the neighbourhood.
Probably the best butter tarts I've ever eaten! The pastry is too die for. Small shop but worth the wait if people are lined up. The fritters are also excellent and we enjoyed an apple pie warm from the oven! Yum.
Too many choices of butter tarts, so we had to buy one of each and they're delicious! Now we're going to get fat, but will enjoy it at least...... Lots of amazing baked goods, the tea biscuits are delicious.
Best butter tarts I've ever eaten! Excellent coffee, and always friendly, even at 7 am, when I'd roll thru, on the way to work. Worth visiting for a light lunch/snack.Tons of flavours, too! I personally lean towards the bacon butter tart. Busy little place, and good to see someone be successful from the first day! They close by 3 pm, or thereabouts, so go early.
Great buttertarts!! Buttery and sweet.... loved it.. Wantee to buy more on the way back but they are closed on Sunday! :(
They were super busy. Yet great selection and service. Cream filled donuts didn't even make it home! Daughter claimed the entire bag of cheesy garlic sticks lol
It's tiny but friendly and the food is fresh. We were seeing signs for The Buttertart Factory along the road, and having been a traveler on The Buttertart Tour, we knew we would stop. The factory is situated at the three-way stop in the picturesque village of Warsaw. Inside it's a little cramped, but the supply of traditional and exotic tarts as well as breads, Fritters, cookies, scones and sticky buns is awesome. Then you realize you could have lunch before you eat those tarts! We had a toasted western sandwich for 5.50 and one of the daily specials , which included a bowl of chili with a tea biscuit, coffee or tea, and dessert for a mere $8. Dessert was your choice of the sweet treats in the shop. A nice experience, good food and kind folks, but I think they'll be looking for a larger venue soon .
So many unique buttertarts variations along with the classics, these are among the best I have ever had!
Safety protocol in place as normal. The best Chelsea buns out there! More then just great buttertarts with various flavours. I love that they sell half pies as well full pies
The tarts are fantastic but they could use more staff. The wait in line is a bit much.
The raisin butter tarts and cinnamon rolls were both excellent.
Very yummy variety of tarts! I love how you can go in and buy just one or as many as you please! I dislike plastic packaging so I like the fact that it’s like a bulk store for baked goods :P
Closed today...thanks for updating your website....
Buttertarts are rich & tasty, great selection with flavors. A little rich in price & definitely worth the price, also try the yogurt ice cream, is the best, great selection with flavors also, won't disappoint you but again price is a little high, if you have the family with you be sure to have a $bill or a bit more, lol. GREAT PLACE TO GO.
Tried a few different items here. Based on reviews I tried the cinnamon bun, which was probably the best cinnamon bun I've ever had and definitely recommend. My boyfriend wanted to turn around to get more. Also tried the sausage rolls (Oktoberfest and maple bacon) which were very good, the garlic cheese sticks were very good, and the Chelsea buns were solid. Good customer service.
Wonderful mom and pop store selling delicious buttertarts and other cookies.. if u r interested in local confections this is the place. There is a restroom hidden behind the shop, you may have to ask for permission.
Well worth the drive. Fritters were fantastic. The pastry for the butter tarts was so light and flaky. So many flavours to choose from. Delicious!
Such a lovely experience every time we go, love their cinnamon buns and sausage rolls
Great butter tarts for value and taste. The fritters are the best I have found anywhere. And I'm picky. In store has now gone from 2 to 4 persons so it's a little quicker getting in and out. Friendly staff.
An awesome place to stop for some great treats on your way up north
I love Kawaryha Butter Tart factory yummy. The coffee is really good too thankyou.
Great baked goods but please post the days you are closed..Sunday & Monday's on your Pumpkin Pumpkin Pumpkin sign...so we all don't have to drive all the way in..thx
I am very disappointed with the purchase I made today. The apple fritters were very very dry, the sausage rolls had no flavor and the crust on the coconut cream pie was not done enough. Nothing was fresh. We will not be visiting this bakery again.
So freaking good! I've only had the pleasure of trying the fresh bread and butter tarts of various flavors, however I'm making it a mission to pick up treats monthly for my office to share.. strictly for team building..not for selfish reasons at all ;)
Was very small and only allowed 2 in at a time. I bought cheese bread and butter tarts. Both were totally delicious. Highly recommended
Very good!
Love butter tarts but the pastry was incredibly greasy, not impressed.
Literally everything they make is beyond delicious. Great variety of options for a little shop, both sweet and savoury.
More than just tarts and great service. The assorted flavours of fritters are amazing and some of the best home made soups and sandwiches in the county. And now fresh daily extra large sausage rolls in a variety of flavours. Great job Cathy and staff.
Fantastic place. a must stop on the way to the cottage :)
Staff very friendly butter tarts are incredible doesnt matter what flavour you get. Cinnamon buns are top notch as well. Hoped to try some raspberry lime loaf but I showed up too late in the day.
Great cinnamon rolls and butter tarts!
They have great stuff,it's just the butter tarts well not for me,I like mine runny, and the ones we got today well I have to be honest, not very good.sorry.
5 stars for the tarts, 0 stars for the ladies working there except the younger girl. 5 of us shopped from them today and while we were giving them business (4 at a time as required), the lady at the cash was extremely rude and acted like she did not want us in there. This is our first time having a negative experience here and not sure if we’ll be back.
I haven't tried everything...yet, but the apple fritters are soooo good! I love going in when I come home. As for you whiners that complain about the prices, you obviously have no idea what goes into the product. The overhead costs which include the electricity, the ingredients, and paying the staff. The plastic containers used for the tarts, the bags etc. they are not cheap! Quit your bitching and enjoy the food!!!
It was my first time going and it was amazing. It smelled so good just walking in and all the food we bought was so delicious. Highly recommended.????????
QUALITY products and selection. A bit pricey but what is not these days.
Staff were super friendly and helped me with my choices as it was my very first time there. The buttertarts were delicious - I would recommend taking a drive and see all the great treats they have to offer!
4.5 stars. Only because I wish the store was bigger. But the treats are 5 star all day. So many flavors of butter tarts. Definitely a must stop
The tarts are delicious and ridiculously gooey. Butter tarts are always way too sweet for my taste but after a long bike ride, these were heaven-sent.
Best butter tarts I've ever had. Will definitely be back
Great little place to stop for lunch or a sweet treat.
Friendly people. The pecan buttertart I found to have a strange eggy texture inside, not at all what I was expecting or desirable. Crust was excellent though. The cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing looked really good, made the wrong choice! I felt the prices to be very fair!
The best butter tarts!! Great variety & some still warm from the oven. Also bought a pecan pie—delicious!!
People are nice, building is nice, everything is freshly baked and keeps coming out fresh from the kitchen. My spouse and I are buttertart connoisseurs so we went in with high expectations. We had the raisin buttertarts as that is our preference. They were okay, nothing great. I wouldn't go back for the buttertarts, however on our way in a customer told us that they were there to pick up the apple fritters and we had a friend tell us the same thing. I saw them in the bakery and they did look decadent, so we will return to try the apple fritters, but not the butter tarts.
Fresh baked apple fritters daily (one of the best you can get). Butter tarts baked fresh every day, multi-buy discounts, many different flavours (rasberry coconut, skor, chocolate peanut butter, raisin, etc) Also made to order sandwiches, fresh homemade chilli, the works. Minimal menu but everything is fresh made in-house. Tables to eat in and washrooms. Debit/Credit/Cash all accepted.
Really flaky pastry with yummy assorted fillings like skor and peanut butter! Did I mention the cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting?
Long line but definitely worth the wait. We go here every week and that have the best baking by far. The staff is amazing and super friendly. Would definitely recommend for tarts, cinnamon buns and bread!
Pastries are delicious, a little on the sweet side. Bread was light and fluffy, only complaint was the sausage roll has to many spices.
When there for cinnamon buns and after a long wait in line they were out of cream cheese frosting. Who makes cinnamon buns without frosting?
Absolutely amazing. Great service. Friendly. Great lineup of baked goids. Delicious butter tarts and old fashioned fruit fritters...just like grandma's!
1st time visiting the bakery. Butter tarts and apple fritters were tasty. Should have eaten them same day as they would have tasted that much better.
This place is a must, best Apple fritters in the zone!!! The also have delicious buttertars and one the great findings is the sausage rolls!!! I loved the chorizo ones!
Love the yogurt ice cream. Always great service.
Very friendly service! Bakery items are very good. Wish I had arrived earlier. By 3pm most items are gone. Apple fritters were warm and yummy!!
Staff rude, didnt have pizza rolls, or donuts anymore all summer apparently.
This is the one and only eating joint before going to the caves. They have a limited assortment of stuff to try - very decent food. Thought they were a bit expensive though - however don't even start thinking of prices as there is no other shop in sight.
The food is nothing short of awesome.
Wonderful buttertarts. And some gf bakery items as well!
Wonderful tarts, they will be #1 in Canada if there ever is a best tart store in Canada!
Amazing food, had the Beef pot pie - delicious, cheese bread so fresh, and of course their amazing buttertarts! Everyone must try!!
Very nice little bakery ! The Tarts are very good; but they are not worth 13$ for 6 tarts. Absolutely no problem with the taste and also the Very nice staff... but way to pricy! Good for a one time treat!
Unbelievable homemade butter tarts. Factory kind of makes it sound boring, and low quality, but it is hand made and excellent. The garlic bread sticks, cinnamon buns and homemade soup and sandwiches are top notch. Only downfall it is very small for a sit down meal, considering the food is so good. I guess it is best to take out
We've heard so many great things about this bakery so we decided recently to see what all the fuss is about. Well now we know. We purchased a dozen butter tarts and they were absolutely delicious!!!!
We stopped in here on the way to a friends cottage and so glad we did! They had so many different butter tarts to choose from - plain, pecan, skor, rolo, pumpkin, peanut butter, just to name a few. The pastry was flaky and filling was just the right consistency. I’d recommend people stop in and get a tart. :)
They have quite a large selection of Buttertart variations! I picked up plain, pecan and maple bacon! I have yet to try those but they look fantastic! I did however grab a couple of the famous apple fritters I was told to get! In my opinion …
Stoped here for the first time going up to the cottage. Everything on the menu was delicious especially the pecan butter tarts and the fritters. We had to stop again on our way home to stock up on the goodies.
Excellent butter tarts!! We were driving from London Ontario and next time will definitely make the stop again!!
I've there their donuts kinda big so good and they tarts ,i've tasted them before so good tasty they have variety of stuff all look so good and ????. I've only been in that place twice you have go there and try those big donuts apple fritters and strawberry i think so good fatting so testy☺????!
HONESTLY? $15 for (let's be honest) pretty average tasting butter tarts. Yet another place that likes to upcharge the customers for the experience of supporting local. It's so tiny inside. It's basically one table at the front and some freezers next to it. For those visiting it from out of town, it's not worth the drive. There is a playground out front for the kids to play, but it's right next to their run-off water pond that has no fencing around it. So the kids spend the entire time trying to play in their dirty pond, while the parents try to deal with their screaming child because they can't play in such an inviting and dirty pond out front. Not to mention the dangerous slope that will send your kid right down into the dirty water. I drove an hour to this place, to pay almost $25 for 6 butter tarts and 2 fritters. Not to mention the gas and time it took me to get there, only to be in and out of the place in 3 minutes and to fight my kid outside the entire time from playing or even falling into the water.
Location entrance is difficult to find. We drove around the block and back before we noticed the "entrance sign" had their small circle logo that you cannot see as you drive by. After finding the place and all the cars and people, we soon realized it was for the yogurt store. They were closed on a Sunday afternoon. Missing out :(
Small place, line moved well, ladies inside are so nice and all the treats were amazing! Will go back!!!!
OMG mouth watering tarts, pies and more. I live in montreal and decided to stop here on the way to the Lakefield area. Boy am I happy I did. Picked up lots more on my return trip home. YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY
