The single star I’m giving pertains only to their “Aussie” meat pie. And it’s just my opinion. I’m an Australian who has been living in Canada for a while now and I have been craving a real Australian meat pie for ages. For all you who have had real Aussie Meat pies before you know what I’m talking about especially you other Australians and New Zealanders. Now I went looking for a meat pie fully understanding that it would be hard to find a place that makes them properly. Anyway I saw online that this place makes an “Aussie” Meat Pie. I picked one up today and just had my first piece and I gotta say… this is probably the furthest thing from an Australian meat pie that I’ve ever had. Nothing about it reminded me of an “Aussie” meat pie apart from it being the shape of a circle. It’s more like a tourtiere and if it is a tourtiere it’s a terrible. Very bland in flavour and was just mush inside. However I should say I have been to this place a few times before and the service has always been good. Some of the other pastries are great! And the one Australian/British thing that they do pretty close to the real thing is their Lamingtons. Anyway was really disappointed in that meat pie. I would suggest changing the name of it. Cause that ain’t what it is.

I was not a bread person before meeting this place. Everything is super fresh and good... I would recommend to try every bread they have, each one is so unique and different in consistence and flavour. The pastries are magnificent. Also the granola is superb!!! Totally in love!

employee/owner? is loud, abrasive and trashy. Was passive aggressive since we overstayed our welcome (1 hour) on the patio after 3 treats and 2 coffees. So definitely not a good place to meet people. She then smoked at the patio, real classy broad.

Every time I have come there, their products are fresh and delicious. I strongly recommend their samosas, I think they may be the best I’ve ever had. I also love all of their pies, Jamaican patties and their egg salad sandwich. I think they add a dash of dill and it’s my favourite! You won’t be disappointed by their sweets either.

They have a nice selection of pastries and breads, as well as a delicious non-drip filter brew. There is also a small indoor resting area, and a small patio outside. One nice thing about this bakery is that they enable patrons to donate fresh loaves of bread to charity at a reduced rate.

Wasnt impressed when myself and my boyfriend waited 20 mins for service. Heard plenty of staff in the back. We visited at 10 mins to lunch coming in for 2 of their sandwiches. When they finally served us, they hadn't even made any sandwiches. The women said sorry, walked away to the back and joined in with the rest of the laughter. Leaving us standing there. Not impressed. Would not recomend for lunch unless you'd like a loaf of bread to eat.

Bread & Roses is my coffee shop home-away-from-home! Their coffee is exceptional and the baked goods beyond delicious. There are some gluten free options in the cookies. I was expecting them to taste like sawdust, but they are dangerously delicious. My favourite food is the toasted tuna or egg-salad sandwiches. The staff is warm, friendly and thoughtful. I often sit for an hour or two working on my laptop. Highly recommended for the Manor Park / St. Laurent and Hemlock area.

One of the things I've been trying to do during the pandemic is get to know my immediate surroundings a little better and support local businesses. Bread & Roses is one that I would recommend if you're in the market for delicious food and exceptional service. Here's an example. Their food is always fresh and delicious however, sometimes, because businesses are beholden to supply and demand, if their products pass a certain date, and fall from the quality of being exceptional, to great, they offer you them at a discount. When other businesses would leave you to discover a drop in quality at full price, they take the initiative and set expectations for their customers and, because of that, they've made one for life in me. I can't recommend them enough.

The worst chocolate walnute date cake ever. Today I got a piece of cake which was located on cashier desk and the texture was hard and awful . The taste gave me the feeling that it was baked a week ago . The oil under the cake was solid and tasted awful . Overall, I wont never ever get anything from this bakery again.

The bakery isn't horrible - some of the stuff is actually quite good. But we have been twice on a Sunday and the man that works there cannot wear a mask properly. He takes it off when nobody is in store and puts it on as we come in. It quickly slides down his face and he walks around with his nose out of the mask. He takes it off to work the cash (which he doesn't without changing gloves or washing his hands). There's no cleaning of the atm machine between customers. All that makes me concerned about other hygiene measures. It's so disappointing and we won't be coming back. I know it's hard to wear a mask all day, but if women give birth wearing masks these days... I think this guy can do better with his.

On March 26th 2015 I visited this bakery in response to the Manor Park Chronicle announcement that macarons were available. Previously I had been buying them from an excellent independent baker through a larger bakery that was not close to home. The price quoted at B & R shocked me since on the same block they are sold for much less. I mentioned that they should consider being price competitive . The clerk inquired if the macarons were 'beyond my means '! Yes, the bakery has wonderful treats but that one insult has left a very bitter taste. Will not return.

I worked here for a couple shifts, the boss tried to pay me under the table, and has since refused to pay me for my hours worked, stating that it's "between me and a co worker". It may, however, be for the best, because working there was uncomfortable at best. Between broken equipment, unsanitary conditions, and rude management, I find myself unable to recommend this bakery to anyone, whether for work or for recreation

Bought two pies yesterday one in which we served to guest after dinner. The crust was so hard nobody was able to bite through it. The cashier even convinced me to buy 2 since there was a special, now I know why! Used to go often won’t be returning.

I love that it's within walking distance from home. Pretty wide variety of reasonably priced food and drink. The only downside is I cannot go by myself because I can't get in...or to the table outside, without help. Can't open the door and the seating is, in my opinion, unnecessarily up a big step!

I gave this bakery a few tries and was very disappointed each time. There’s isn’t much bread variety and most of them are sourdough based - the ones that aren’t tasted rather bland to me. The pastries are pretty ghastly, too, in my opinion : for instance, the lemon meringue pies taste like they’re made with Sheriff powder and the meringue is more of a hard marshmallow; the cheesecake squares have way too much gelatine, giving them an odd texture; the croissants/chocolate croissants are dry, hard and on the smaller side. Sadly, these are just a few examples... it’s even more unfortunate given the higher price-range. I really wanted to like and support this bakery - the only one in this neighbourhood - and I’ll gladly pay more for locally-made fresh goods, but this place isn’t it for me.

What a delight to have Bread and Roses deliver their fresh baked goods to your door. Their scones and croissants are simply delicious. Light and flaky croissants and scones full of cheese or chocolate are sure to fill you up. I love the varied selection of goods, the ability to order online a few days before and then get it delivered when you want. This is my go to place for baked goods. Excellent!!

Before the pandemic, I used to come here every Saturday morning for a cinnamon bun. They make a great cinnamon bun. Since the pandemic I haven't been able to hit it on the right days, or they were out of them by the time I stopped by. I stopped by early this morning and although the batch of cinnamon buns wasn't completely ready, they looked through the pans and grabbed one out of the oven for me. Great customer service! Thanks so much!
