Whenever we see them we have to have them. The Village Bake Shop and Deli have some of the most delicious pastries I have ever eaten! The shop started 36 years ago in Orono, Ontario! All the pastries are baked in the Orono bakery and then every morning shipped to the Whitby location! The pies: blueberry, apple, raspberry are baked fresh everynight and shipped to Whitby early in the morning in a large transport truck! The best pies I have ever tried! The cream in the cream puffs is light, fresh and very delicious! I always look forward to tasting the pastries over and over again! Just cannot get enough of the delicious foods sold at the Village Bake Shop! Staff are kind, helpful and very proud of their beyond belief foods! Everyone should have the great experience of trying these delicious baked goods!

Just as delicious as the Orono shop. You have to Try the vanilla custard slice! The empire cookies are so fresh they melt in your mouth. They also make cakes and you can choose the base, icing and filling and they are so moist and rich, and try the strawberry rhubarb pie with some vanilla ice cream! This place is amazing!!! I find food here not easily found in the neighborhood. In our case Scottish and Irish delights including but not restricted to potato scones, bangers, cheeses and chocolate. I have a "condition" but I can eat their "nitrate free" deli meets without any problems. When we have company we r sure to stop by for treats: pies, donuts, fritters wow. And there is no extra charge for the great service and jokes.

Absolutely lovely family run local business. The chocolate dipped doughnut is so damn good! And the prices are so reasonable. Baked goods taste fresh and staff are so nice. The baked goods counter is inside the shop with so many other things like cured meats, cheeses and a whole lot of curious things from Holland and elsewhere, so it makes for a nice stroll inside the shop when you're making the very difficult decision of what not to eat :D. Village Bake Shop is absolutely fantastic!!! I have been here so many times and it never fails to deliver. Their baked goods are phenomenal, they have a huge selection of various sundry/grocery items, and their deli selections are fantastic. Oh, and I should also mention that the special occasion cakes they make to order are wonderful. The prices for the baked goods, the deli items, and the special occasion cakes are well below any so-called competitors. If you haven't had a chance to visit this bake shop/deli, you should make a point of checking it out! There are also other locally-owned businesses in the plaza that would benefit from your patronage!

My favourite bakery of all time! The bakery counter always has a delicious variety of pastries, cakes and cookies to tempt us all at a decent price. Not to mention that it’s the best place to go if you are Dutch and enjoy salted black licorice because it can be bought there in bulk. I was there on Saturday morning bright and early and had an apple fritter and it was amazing. There is also a wide variety of goods from the Netherlands as well as a deli counter. The goods are always fresh, the staff and owners are incredibly friendly and so much variety all at very fair prices. Try to limit my visits to once a week at most but that has been a challenge in itself.

Amazing bakery!!! First and foremost, this bakery (& another in Orono) is family owned and run. The food and gifts are mainly Dutch. All of the goodies are baked daily, and you will definitely notice their freshness. Note that if you want some specific items like Dutch apple fritters, eccles cakes, long johns... you need to special order them or show before the afternoon, as they sell out quickly. Speaking of special orders, I have ordered both miscellaneous treat boxes and customized cakes with no issues. A 10" customized cake for $10 -- that‘s amazing! I cannot say enough great things about this bakery! You have to check it out, and no doubt you will agree!

First time there and did curb side order for basic butter tarts. Took away to share with company and was so surprised they were a commercial style tart, pressed all around, shallow and when you bite in centre the bottom was a hard solid sugar. Certainly disappointed. We often go on a butter tart trail drive (it’s on web) and won’t go here again. Sorry.

If you haven't been to the Village Bakeshop in Whitby, Ontario you are truly missing out. Not only are the staff friendly, helpful and courteous they make you feel as you are part of this family run business. Their service is excellent as are their goods. They feature a wide variety of Dutch and British fare. Those English biscuits you love? You can get them here. Those Cadbury choclate bars...the one's actually made in England? They have those too! Now if that isn't enough for you they also feature their own bakery!! Pies, tarts, donuts [the kind that you had as a kid!] homemade fudge, cakes and pies made to order and deli meats at very reasonable prices. I've lived in Whitby about 15 years and have always lamented that there was no real bakery here....well now there is and it's a real treat to shop there. So give yourself a treat and visit Village Bakeshop!
