So I went to this place on Saturday and you'll need to understand that I have quite a list of foods that I'm either allergic or have an intolerance. Gluten being one of them and for most of you like me you know it's hard to find gluten free desserts or baked goods that actually taste good. There was a little section of cookies, brownies, baked goods and desserts just for us!!! So nice to see, smell. There was also a massive selection of baked goods, cookies, turnovers, donuts breads, deli meat and cheeses.... So many choices!!! I'm definitely going back soon

Very good local bakery! I make a point of stopping in and grabbing our favourites whenever I’m in town! They have so many tasty homemade offerings. Cream puffs, danishes, crowns, baklava, pies, donuts, breads, and the list goes on and on!! They also have a large deli selection and carry a lot of European prepacked good as well.

This store follows strict Covid-19 protocols, only certain number of people in at a time, must follow the arrows of the direction to the letter, the cash area has divided Plexiglas panels, all workers have gloves, masks and hairnets on and are cleaning counters, entrance area, etc after each customer comes in. Besides that, at the time I visited their stock was low on baked goods, although I did purchase 2 raison butter tarts which were delicious. The carrot cake with raisons and nuts and white icing was delicious and we tried the pineapple cake for the first time.

I bought gluten free baked items "brownies on crack and knock me up". Both were absolutely dry and stale and tasted like dust that had collected all of the room smells for weeks. Terrible. I'm not gluten intolerant, but I wanted a brownie and it was the only ones you had. Last time ever going there!

Very clean and spacious bakery with fresh savoury and sweet treats. People behind the counters were nice and kind. They also have an assortment of pre-packaged foods like chips and waffles, and also deli meats. I recommend them to everyone, their danishes were really good!

I have NEVER experienced such horrendous customer service anywhere besides here. The employee that me and my 2 other friends had to deal with today was beyond inappropriate and unprofessional in any sense of the term. We started off by entering the bakery and following the rules from the sign, waiting for an employee to assist us. The employee already had a nasty approach by asking us in a demeaning tone if we are all together and going to pay on the same bill which we are. With already leaving that sour taste in our mouths, we were browsing the first counter display of baked goods. Nothing was catching mine nor my one friends eye so he decided to move forward to the next counter display as a typical customer would do but the employee said in an angry tone "If you walk over there you CANNOT walk back here so tell me if you want something from this section" which is quite rude and unnecessary to say in that tone especially working in customer service and have paying customers. So I go ahead and check out the other counter display seeing that they're sold out of the 'Kremes' which is disappointing but I understand. As I was eyeing the mint nainamo bars, the employee was rushing my friends and I to decide on what we want so I spoke up and said "Can I please get 2 of the Mint Nainamo Bars?" and her response ONCE again in a belittling tone said "How many do you want? So I know what size of box to grab..." and I responded politely again saying "Just two, thank you" as she started to get those packed in the box my one friend had a very reasonable question and asked "If we aren't allowed to step back, how're we going to pay for our baked goods at the till?" and she replied "Well we can either have you at this till (the till that we'd have to walk backwards to go to) or at this till" then she mumbled under her breath that only I caught saying "We don't need your attitude". Which really caught me off guard considering she had the attitude as soon as she approached to "help" us. She then asked me "Is that all you want? So I replied saying "yes, that is all I want but I am not too sure about my two friends" that were still looking. Her response was "Well if you guys are all paying on the same bill I want to know if that's all?" So my friends and I finally had enough of her demeaning and condescending attitude so we all said "Yes thats all we are going to get, thank you". My one friend was the one that was going to pay for us all using his card, so as soon as we got to the till he just let the employee know that her attitude and customer service isn't up to par and she should fix it. With that being put out there, the employee threw her hands up in the air and said "You know what sir, you can take your business elsewhere!" and denying us my baked goods that I asked for. Such a disappointing experience that all of us felt such distraught and anxiety during and leaving the Bakery. I am just hoping this review reaches the manager and employee that dealt with us so moving forward this doesn't happen again to anyone. No one deserves such disrespect while wanting to purchase wonderful baked goods that we've been enjoying for so long.

Rated based on combination customer service experience and quality of goods bought. [EXPERIENCE] My wife and I visited. My wife went in and then I thought I'll check to see what the restrictions are and see if two people from the same household can go in. Instead of just posting all of their rules on a single sign, it's like every time they add a rule, they put a new notice on the door with just that rule, so it feels like there were a lot of signs on the door. I didn't see anything saying two people from the same household can't be in the bakery at the same time, but it's possible there was something there. As soon as I saw "limit of 3 people in the store" I decided just to go back to my car because there were other people arriving in the parking lot, but one of the staff came out from behind the counter and waved me in. As soon as staff figured out my wife and I were together, one if the staff told us they'd ask one of us to leave if other people come into the store. Totally reasonable. What was not reasonable was her tone. It was profoundly offensive. I felt like a criminal. So I just left. My wife said she was later reprimanded because she went to get something off the shelf. If their staff are going to wave people into the store, especially if they do it *while* people are trying to read all the many instructions on the door they should probably have the person who greets entrants to the store do a run down of the rules. And, yes, I understand these are stressful times, but they're stressful for everyone. The only way we're going to get through this is if we're helpful and kind to each other. All the staff person had to do was adopt a different tone and everything would be fine. The only reason we were even in the bakery is because we're trying to support small businesses through the pandemic. But they've adopted an attitude like we should all be grateful for the privilege of being able to enter the bakery. If they treat customers that way, they clearly don't need the business, so maybe just close down the shop until everything gets back to normal. No one *needs* anything there that they can't get somewhere else. [QUALITY] My wife bought quite a bit of stuff there despite the experience. (I'm not sure why -- I guess to justify the drive). The cherry pie was actually quite disgusting. The filling was fine but the pastry was terrible. It had this sort of baking soda taste to it. We purchased both gluten and gluten-free squares. The family felt the gluten-free squares were better than the gluten ones. I myself felt the raspberry squares (GF) were good and the carrot cake (gluten) was moist and decent. Neither was astounding. The rest of the items were mediocre. [FINAL THOUGHTS] I've been to the bakery one time before. I bought sourdough bread that I recall being quite good, and the squares we purchased that time I remember being quite good as well -- good enough that we returned, obviously. My customer experience during that visit was positive as well. So chances are good that I'll give this place another try in the future and update my review. I feel that the stress of the pandemic has had an adverse impact on their service and the quality of their goods. I can't explain how the latter is linked to the pandemic except maybe the food isn't as fresh because they're baking more in bulk to cut down on the number of people working in the store at one time? But maybe when all of this has passed, they'll be a good bakery to visit again.

Courtland Backery was our favourite bakery in the area. The last few visits we have left with nothing, as we never get waited on. The staff working here always go straight to the older people, even when they have acknowledged that you came in first. Normally I would pleasantly wait... I am getting tired of being disrespected by all these local shops. They say to shop local, but all these local vendors push business away. It's really too bad, Courtland Bakery's food is amazing. ????

My husband planned a little bakery tour in the Norfolk area.... this was a second stop. This was our first time at the bakery.. products seem overall ok with a lot of assortments but staff wasn't overly friendly-- we found them a bit militant and curt. We were advised to stick together - I felt like we were in grade school. We only purchased one item to try --- called an Elephant ear. It is a pastry similar to Palmiers (puff pastry rolled in sugar) and should be light and flakey but this was dry -- as if the sugar actually melted into the pastry and it was over baked. I also found it very sweet perhaps too much sugar which caramelized it - but if you like that perhaps you would enjoy it. Overall average -- staff needs to be more welcoming and a bit more care put into the baking products to make them WOW.

Staff is very nice and helpful, and parking on the side or from the road is convenient. The items I have tried so far are very good, and the store is also very visually appealing when inside, both for the artistry of the bakery items, and the general display.

This bakery is not to be missed when visiting the Simcoe, Delhi, Tillsonburg area. Goods are baked in a traditional manner (and you can taste the delicious difference), using high quality ingredients. An incredible gluten free section as well. European fare at the meat counter and within the center aisles where you'll find a wide variety of quality imports.

Beautiful family owned bakery, has been around for generations. Baked goods are made in their bakery, decently priced and so, so good! Gluten free options available, with a meat deli and European and Dutch drugstore goods. Coffee here too, service is excellent with protocols in place to keep clients and staff safe from covid. Courtland Bakery is a must stop bakery. I used to travel a lot and anytime I was asked where I am from people always knew Courtland for the bakery. It is a true gem perfect for picking up buns and meat for lunch. Apple Fritters are the best I have ever had. The must tries are the cottage cheese pockets, and my go to are the cheese crowns. My mom used to love the elephant ears and my kids enjoy the fun cookies for the aways changing and seasonal desgins.

I just can't resist all the goodies. I love how it's all baked on site the night before and fresh everyday. The staff was friendly and they are abiding by the pandemic rules. They only allow 8-10 customers in at a time and ask that you stay 6 ft apart from other customers who are in the store. Always my favourite place to go. Best baked goods and they also have a few other goodies in the store as well.

If you have a craving for something sweet, boy oh boy is this the place for you. It's a full service bakery with breads, pastries, cakes and tarts, galore. Never mind your diet or concern for sugar consumption, leave that all behind if you intend on enjoying any of the delicious treats here. One side of the bakery is for baked goods while the other offers some seating, a deli counter and European packaged food items. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth the drive.

Breads and buns really good. Deli is alright. Can get busy with waits lineups but the service is good. Not alot of room to sit I think three tables and the parking can be cramped at times but if your In Courtland you must stop in and try it.

I have never been in a store that has such rude staff. If we had better service we would have spent alot more money. Two out of three of us bought nothing. The pastries we got ( Kremes ) were dried out on the edges and the staff refused to give us the fresher ones we requested. Don't think I will ever be back.

I was amazed with not only their selection of baked bread, but their selection of baked goods made me want to try everything! My wife had the cheesecake with Nutella and instantly loved it (so you know it's gots to be good). As for me, I had the donuts and was impressed with the flavor upon biting into it. Why settle for day old, crusty donuts from Timmies, when you have this gem in your hometown?

Tasty treats and some sweet indulgence. I really like the kremes, and the cinnamony sweet elephant ears that are crispy, sticky and delicious! The raisin scones are also the best I have ever had. EDIT: After my most recent trip here (Nov. 2021) I can no longer recommend the scones/tea biscuits. See photo. They are TERRIBLE! Hard as hockey pucks, overbaked, and had an acidic strange feel in the mouth. Yuck! Also bought the light rye bread on this occasion, and it was extremely salty, and obviously oversalted. Not what one expects from bread. The Dutchie donuts tasted like they were fried in very old oil. I do not believe I will be back here again, at least not for the next very looooong while. Buy at own risk.

Great little bakery. Staff is wonderful. Huge selection of cookies and some donuts (I believe they also offer gluten free stuff). They also offer some delicious meats, cheeses and buns. My friend called ahead and ordered a cake which turned out beautiful.

Baking goods look better than they taste. Buns are typically prefrozen, pastries are not fresh unless they are on special. If You want good pasteries or bread goto Simcoe farmers market.

Staff are rude. One worker scolded me for buying too many loaves of bread(4). She told another staff member to get hers first before she served me to ensure that they had theirs first. Do not comply with the Reopening Act which states face coverings are mandatory however there are exemptions. They offer curb side pickup which is not the same.

I had heard amazing thing avout this place so i decided to get our pies for thanksgiving there. The apple pie lacked all cinnamon, the crust was almost too salty to eat and it was almost twice as much money and a pie from anywhere else. The pumpkin pie was lackluster at best, it tasted like canned pie filling in a similarly over salted crust. Unless their small pastries are amazimg i would not recommend this bakery

Went in to get some birthday treats for my son today (and my husband loves the blondie bars) Went through the usual covid sanitation on entry. I’m not a regular, so I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted and the bakery is laid out in a large L. I went past another man that ordering to have a look and the lady scolded me about waiting and not passing. So I waited for the person in front of me. Then another lady said she could take me over , but only if I didn’t want anything from the first counter. Once you go to the second counter can’t go back. No looking at what they all have (which is tons) So I decided to leave and take my business elsewhere (and walked right past where I wasn’t allowed). I get the covid rules , but to be so rude to customers is appalling. So from what we’ve had before the goods are excellent, but if you don’t know what you want (and it’s still covid ) STAY AWAY!

Too Much to Choose! My parents told me about this Bakery and I finally stopped in on my way between Niagara and St Thomas. Pie, turnovers, cookies and danish - all amazingly great! As good as or better than Panera - and not so "perfectly uniform". Oh, and I picked up a Norfolk Cookbook - and have now tried some of the recipes - it's like going to a family potluck!

Fantastic bakery. 80yrs in business. By far the best bakery for our family. We drive from London for baked goods that we can't find anywhere else. Elephant ears, chocolate horns, cream puffs, chocolate eclairs, donuts and pies just to name a few of our favorites. So many more pastries still to try. They also have a deli counter. Great staff!!

Was there over the weekend to pick up some baked goods and after i had left I had realized that unfortunately I was overcharged. For 6 mini cookies, 2 donuts and 2 bars I paid $28.10. I did not catch it at the time as I was in mid sentence with my girlfriend and did not realize till we had left and the store was closed. I called the next day in the morning before they opened and the lady who answered made it seem like I was making her go out of the way to look into it as I did not get a receipt(who gets receipts for baked goods?). She said she would pull the records and give me a call back. It has now been 3 days and I have yet to hear back. Good baked goods hence the one star. but unfortunately for me, very very pricey.

This place is busy almost all the time. I have had baked goods in the past and they were very good. Bread, pastries and pies. My most recent visit we had coffee and cookies. The coffee was surprisingly very good. The cookies were stale and very disappointing. They were very uncharacteristically bad compared to past times we have been here. It was extremely busy and you would think that the items would be fresher. Hopefully next time it will not be as disappointing.

I would definitely encourage anyone driving through this little town, to check out this place! A long line up (in the pandemic) says alot to me, about how much people enjoy coming. And quite an assortment, of pickled products, and storable consumables, as well as a ton of home made pastries (except for their gluten free section, which they don't make in their bakery) AND a deli to boot!

I have heard great things about this bakery , So when i was in town i thought geeze i have to stop and check it out and mmmmm smells awesome in there .. friendly service i had ordered pecan tarts and cream puffs, my tarts where burnt tasting and my cream puffs where dry and not flaky like i am use too.. but maybe the baker had a bad day... i would try them again ...just to see if it was just a bad day...
