At this moment the firm receives a rating of 4 over 5 and this score has been based on 127 reviews.
As you can see the average score it has is really high, and it is based on a large number of feddbacks, so we can say that the rating is quite reliable. If there are many people who bothered to value when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to place reviews when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...

Got some great Montreal style bagels here, and of course the Toronto staple: Peameal Bacon Sandwich.
Not a fan of peameal bacon but this sandwich was amazing. Def worth it.
Peameal Bacon on a bun is fantastic!
This was my first visit to St. Lawrence Market so I had to go here to try a peameal bacon sandwich. It was good, but I was just a tiny bit disappointed that it was premade and handed to me straight from a warming area. I had to pay extra …
The peameal bacon is highly overrated. It's okay but nothing special. Carnicero's, one aisle over, has much better bacon sandwiches.
It's a Toronto institution and my peameal sandwich was pretty good, but it was nothing to write home about. There's better food at St. Lawrence and lower priced peameal sandwiches, but sometimes you just have to get it from here.
Tried the well-known peameal bacon sandwich for the first time and it was quite good, considering I don't even like sandwiches or bacon that much in general. If you are like me and haven't tried peameal bacon ever before, this spot is a good place to try!
It’s comforting that some things in life never change. Thankfully the iconic pea meal bacon sandwich at Carousel Balery is one of those thing. I have been eating these amazing sandwiches since I was a kid. Absolutely love this Toronto institution.
Love this place. I work close by and the Big Hog is my Friday morning treat - stacks of thick, juicy peameal bacon, a fried egg and a slice of cheese all on a big, soft ciabatta roll. Add some ketchup (and maybe a few hot peppers if you're feeling daring) and you've got perfection right there. Not only does it help with the previous night's hangover, but it sees me through the morning and well into the afternoon. Staff are a friendly, efficient bunch too - especially to their regulars!
A visit to Toronto, or the St. Lawrence Market is not complete unless you try the peameal bacon sandwich. There are several vendors in the market offering variations, and this is one of them. This particular stall was visited by Anthony Bourdain, who documented his visit in one of his shows. There's also a chef's wall of fame, where are you will find photos of other notable foodies and celebrities who also dropped by.
Need to try the peameal bacon sandwich. As the various celebrity visits documented along the walls say, it is practically a requirement to experience Toronto, and it is also really good!
Very over hyped, not the greatest peameal bacon sandwich I’ve ever had.
$6+ for bacon on a bun, tasted okay, cold service. Let me walk you through the order process: (1) You let the homeless person go first, (2) ask for the iconic peameal bacon sandwich, (3) you pay $6 or more, (4) they will grab a lukewarm sandwich that's been sitting on the metal counter and hand it to you, without smiling. Maybe I just happened to have met a disgruntled employee. So yes, this is a tourist trap, and they know it, and don't even bothering providing good service, or keep their sandwiches fresh/warm. I would be okay with having the sandwiches pre-made, but kept under an infrared lamp to keep it warm at least... Oh, and if you eat there, prepare to be threatened by homeless people for money. On a positive note, the fried egg and cheese in the peameal bacon sandwich actually tasted quite nice. But guess what, I can make that at home for less than $6. Would I come back? No. Should you go? No, not even if you're a foreign tourist who's never had peameal bacon, because our usual Canadian hospitality is better than this.
Very bad baked items
I love going to St. Lawrence for the visual treat. And when it comes to treating my taste buds, it has to be sandwiches from here ????
Come here and try the "Toronto Sandwich" - their peameal bacon sandwiches are phenomenal and well priced.
St. Lawrence Marketing anchor for generations of Torontonians. Famous around the world for their Peameal Bacon Sandwich and always worth a visit. Slather it with sweet mustard from Kozliks and eat it while watching the dance of shoppers flitting from butcher, to cheese monger, from seafood stand to bakery in one of TOs great market experiences.
Inconsistent customer service. Today, the young lady overcharged us and gave us the wrong food. Great breakfast sandwiches if you get them in your bag!!!
Okay, so the sandwich wasn’t the WORST, but trying to finish it was pretty nauseating. The longer you work at it the grosser the texture starts to feel, and the flavor is really nothing special. Service was pretty quick but not the friendliest.
I think Toronto is one of the famous cities for Peameal Bacon sandwich. So, I had it at the shop in St. Lawrence Market. The taste was normal.
If they got world famous from using a literal ton of salt per burger, then I understand. Works famous for quality and taste? Don't think so
I have been looking forward to try this dish ever since I have come to Canada. However, I was disappointed mainly due to all the hype created about it. It was an extremely mediocre dish with just dry bread and pea-meal bacon. Nothing out of the ordinary. You have to put on your own toppings but still is a very basic meal. Not sure I’ll revisit the restaurant since I believe St Lawrence has much better food options!
Charged me extra to heat up my pie and it wasn't even heated all the way through. The pastry just fell apart too and the filling wasn't great. I can't really speak for other things but I definitely do not recommend the pies. Overpriced
The famous sandwich is still good. Lots of bacon between a bun. Simple and delicious. Remember to bring CASH $ …
Simple, fast and super tasty.
Got the permeal bacon sandwich and a Portuguese egg tart. Overall they were alright, but the sandwich was a little salty and the texture of the egg tart was lacking.
Must try peameal bacon! Super soft and chewing.
The bacon sandwich was just a hype. Quite disappointing ☹️
The best peameal bacon sandwich. A must have on a Saturday.
The almond chocolate croissant is okay. Too much powdered sugar for me. Maybe it was to distract away from other missing factors. Not enough chocolate filling for my liking. I realize this might be a certain batch or the wrong choice for me. Will try the chocolate next time and update the review.
Looking for a Text Book Example of a traditional Peameal Bacon sandwich and at St. Lawrence Market? Check out Carousel Bakery! I visited them on a Saturday morning (the busiest day of the week for them), and got into a rather large line. Not only was the speed in which my sandwich delivered, and the Outstanding service, but how tasty it was! Nicely cooked bacon (and cheese) on a bun so soft, it was like biting into a cloud delivered with a smile. Highly Recommend
Did you said peameal bacon sandwich? if yes, this is the place. It was my first time with peameal bacon and let me assure it was a delicious experience for both of us. It like it and i think that peamel bacon loved me. And now, even with a ocean tearing us apart, i cant stop thinking of it. i miss you so much, peameal
Amazing sandwiches, I don't understand how this place doesn't have 5 stars. The bread was soft and chewy on the inside but had a nice crunch on the outside. We originally ordered a chicken parmesan sandwich but it was so delicious we went back and ordered the peameal bacon sandwich. No regrets!
Great Canadian bacon sandwich!
Came here because of Anthony Bourdain. Ordered the peameal bacon sandwich and wasn't disappointed. Juicy and tender slices of bacon. Only complaint was the price, it cost over $6 + tax now.
I should have take a pic of the peameal bacon sandwich, stack of bacon, incredible favour, Love it!
Went for their famous peameal bacon sandwich, but it was definitely nothing worth the trouble. Similar to an average bacon bap and served with no sauce, topping nor anything else. Just plain and salty. Not to mention that the price is way to high for that. The do not accept card (to stingy to pay the fees to a card processing company or just tax evasion, not sure) and give you the worst exchange rate. Not sure why I even bothered, I guess I just acted like a dumb tourist even if I should know better by now!
Must have peameal bacon sandwiches ????
The peameal bacon sandwich and Portuguese custard tart are worthy of a Nobel Prize
Really good place to try the peameal bacon. This a very simple sandwich with a low price tag. The bacon is amazing. I really recommend adding pickled banana peppers and the sweet and spicy maple mustard for a bit of a kick. There is apparently a lot of history behind this sandwich, so make sure to check out the posters and signs around the store. If you are visiting Toronto, definitely check out St. Lawrence Market and definitely try the Carousel peameal bacon sandwich.
I bought a sour dough bread on a Tuesday. It was soft and spongy. No taste of sourdough. I just came back from the bakery. No apology, but they argue with me. I don’t recommend this bakery
Please dont eat here!!! I travel for all Canadá and is the worst Food
I tried the famous peameal bacon in a bun and the Portuguese tart, and wasn't wowed. …
The Bacon sandwich is not impressive... I expected more! They should add some sauce
Amazing sandwhich to eat while shopping. Also bought a chocolate croissant that was so soft and fresh. The guys working there are so nice, and cute ????.. Lol.
Loved the peameal bacon sandwich with honey mustard sauce!
Got the Peameal bacon sandwich and was not disappointed. Very delicious and the price isn't bad.
as good as they say It's been years since I've been to the Market or the Carousel. The crowds, tourists and locals alike still buzz through the market with many congregating at the counter of this venerable sandwich stand to sample their legitimately world famous peameal bacon sandwich. The sandwich did not disappoint. It was as juicy and flavorful as I remembered it, and as good as the numerous positive reviews both here and written. Only criticisms are that they are a bit expensive for a simple sandwich and they, like many other stalls in the market only accept cash so either go prepared in this age of plastic and tap, or fret not there is an ATM just across from the order line. Enjoy.
Visited here because of Anthony Bourdain. It's cash only, it's simple but good.
Best pemeal sandwich - worth the wait! Highly recommend you try one next time you're at St. Lawrence market.
Hit or miss with this place. One time I bought six pastries and as the woman was putting them in the box, I was getting my money out. I should have paid more attention to her, because when I got home, the pastries were the ones that were burned on the bottom. Inedible. Thanks for selling me things you knew I had to discard.
I was visiting Toronto for a few days, and decide to squeeze a visit to the Laurence market (go only if you have some time to lose, not much to see here) to try the famous pea meal bacon sandwich. Was bad, really bad...order the sandwich, was ready and packed...ok this is fast food, accept only cash, if you pay in USA currency is 1:1 (rip off), well I have my sandwich, was a dry bread with bacon, not much flavor, really disappointed, at $6 something, this was my only negative experience in Toronto (I have all ready recommend to a few friends to go and visit this beautiful city).
Overrated... time for a facelift on places like this that responds to the changing gastronomic needs of a city. Doesn’t add anything to the culinary culture here and will go down in history as an insignificant spot
You've got to come here for a Toronto classic: A delicious peameal bacon sandwich served up in the historic Saint Lawrence Market. Some will say that bacon on a bun is a bit simple, but I say it's simply delicious!
Memorable Peameal bacon sandwich.
Good food, quick service. We went there after hearing the peameal bacon sandwich is a must. It's very salty, but has a fragrant after taste.
Their peameal bacon sandwich may be famous but I’m not entirely sure why. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad — it’s just a little boring. You can barely taste the bacon and if you add the recommended mustard you won’t taste anything other than mustard and bread. I won’t complain about the price like some others as there was a lot of bacon on my sandwich. My advice is to have one, for the experience, and in future, explore your options. There are better things to eat in St. Lawrence Market (remember to look downstairs) for the same money.
hmmmm... staff was.. weird. a little too rushed and cold. i only had the peameal sandwich and it was okay. it was filling and they give you a lot of bacon. i feel like i’m missing something because i just don’t get the hype.
Nice bacon sandwich 7'50 dollars, cheese and olive sticks 2 dollars and sésamo breads ????????????
Come for the peameal bacon sandwich! So good even Anthony Bourdain likes it.
Absolutely a must try and figure in St. Lawrence market area. The best peameal sandwiches around!
Good for a peameal sandwich at the st Lawrence market. But not the best peameal sandwich in Toronto. Still worth it if you are in the area
The classic peameal bacon sandwich is a very simple, non fanciful dish. Just the good peameal bacon between plain buns with no garnish or sauces. Carousal's peameal bacon sandwich is as pure as it gets. I like the spongy bouncy tender texture of the moist, thin slice of bacon. It's flavour is mildly briny, salty - quite flat tasting, actually. The bun has a stiff chewy shell with a slight crisp outside. The inside has a slight moistness soaking up some grease and juice from the peameal bacon. The plain bun itself doesn't have much flavour. Do get to know this traditional TO food icon, if you are visiting Toronto.
Overrated peameal bacon sandwich. While the meat itself is quite tasty, it gets lost in the sandwich. It’s served in the driest and most chewy bread (not in a good way), full of sugar, what a shame. Also it wouldn’t hurt to spread some mayo or something on the bread as the sandwich is way too dry. Yes, there are condiments available but you cannot be expected to just smother your sandwich in ketchup and mustard to save it... What I do recommend is the chicken parmigiana sandwich. Same bread but saved by the filling (moist and tasty). Really hope they can improve at some point as from the reviews it is clear that this place is lacking. And for that quality there’s really no point in paying that much for an unhealthy-mediocre sandwich.
We got the NY steak sandwich, which was below par.
Excellent peameal bacon sandies ! Add and egg and you are set.
I always get their peameal on a kaiser when I'm in the market. It really is the best. They stack the bacon and the kaiser is soft and fresh. They're so popular that they usually run out of the kaiser roll just after lunch so you might get served a crusty ciabatta bun which just isn't the same experience - so get there early! BTW ~ it's cash only so be prepared. (UPDATE 8/8) They're open again after a brief closure due to the pandemic. They have safety glass around the cashier and all the employees were wearing face coverings. The service and peameal sandwich is still just as awesome!
Tourist trap with semi decent customer service. The Portugese egg tart was mediocre at best.
Blueberry scone, Olive and cheese little baguette and chicken parm sandwhich. All delicious!
Incredible but the sauce can be better. Pie pecan with a coffee is very good.
Perhaps the best peameal bacon sandwich around. Just a few meters away is Paddington's that serves a very similar sandwich, but I prefer Carousel with the hot mustard all the way.
A bit of context, had a craving for Mustachios veal and eggplant sandwich but they were closed so thought we would give this puppy a try. I guess I should had lowered my expectations when they started cooking the veal on a flattop after the …
Overhyped The peameal bacon sandwich is ok at best. They should really be serving it on a baguette or ciabatta bun or at least a more premium kaiser. Cheaping out on bread when you’re selling a “special” product is pathetic if you ask me... sorry not sorry to the owner. My advice is to tell them to put it on a better type of bread when you order
Very good Peameal Sandwich and Custard Tarts!
Been shopping here on Saturdays for almost 25 years. Today I'm mad at Carousel Bakery for selling me stale Olive Ciabatta. We don't come here to take a chance on will my bread today be stale or fresh!
DO NOT BUY FOOD FROM HEAR I BOUGHT BREAD IT WAS NOT ONLY EXPIRED BUT IT HAD MOLD! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS BAKERY!
We literally JUST had a peameal sandwich which tasted great....the downside was when we were done shopping, we walked by again and I noticed a baby roach on the window...needless to say, never felt so sick in my life. Beware.
Really yummy stuff ialways buy sandwich for my TV show the EXPANSE
We go especially for the bread. A particular one that's hard to get elsewhere. But also fantastic breakfast sandwich or what we call the Toronto sandwich with back bacon.
I had to try the peameal bacon sandwich. It's basic but very good. A nice amount of bacon and a soft kaiser roll and what ever you want to put on it.
Very good peameal bacon. Friendly staff. Great bread. ????
We had a good peameal (Canadian) bacon sandwich here. It's the first time I've had Canadian bacon and enjoyed it. Sandwich was ready to order.
Peameal in a bacon bun is what people normally order from here. I'm not a huge fan of the sandwich, as the meat is really salty. But if you're curious what Anthony Bourdain's favorite is here, better try it out!
I purchased the breakfast on a bun for $6.75. It came with 2 slices of peameal, a fried egg, and processed cheddar cheese. The taste of the peameal was as good as it gets, though I would have liked thicker slices for almost $7. I also prefer to have the bun toasted, but since they make a ton of them and have them ready to go I guess that’s not an option? The cheese is processed which sort of ruins it for me; they should step up their game with a nice thick slice of old cheddar from one of the other vendors. Overall, the taste was good and the service was okay. 3 out of 5 stars from me ????
I passed by and saw a bunch of trays of Portuguese egg tarts, and I stopped by and grabbed two. It was cash-only though, so I went to the nearby ATM to get some cash. The egg tarts were quite warm which was great, but the egg part was really starchy and odd. The pastry was light and fluffy was delicious though. I was not a fan in general though because of the egg part. Each egg tart is $1.75 including tax but cash-only!
I seriously really don't understand, what people like about this, I don't want to call it a sandwich, thing. It has a wobbly and chewy texture. You just taste fat and salt. Lots of salt. It's by any means disgusting and I'm really sorry about that, because I was looking forward to it. Save yourself these 7 Dollars.
We in the USA need to learn to cook Canadian bacon. I have had it many times here and it is good but needed other accompaniment for it to be good. The sandwich I had at Carousel Bakery was just bread and bacon, it needed nothing else. It was amazingly good!!
Great spot for a simple sandwich, egg tart was okay, a bit too starchy.
Stick with the go to's. Peameal bacon sandwich, breakfast sandwich, Portuguese tarts are all awesome. Don't buy the rum balls. The taste is very artificial.
The peameal bacon sandwich was great!
The peameal bacon sandwich was absolutely delicious!!
If you want to get peameal, go to this store because they are the most famous and they are extremely friendly and fast. But I think that peameal is not as tasty as other country food. It is just meat and bread, nothing special.
Recipe for happiness: one kaiser roll, copious amounts of peameal bacon, honey mustard and a beverage of your choosing. Best lunch under $10 in the downtown core.
The best Peameal egg sandwich around. Very consistent and fast. Been getting it for years.
I just had their peameal bacon (style) sandwich with some honey mustard, and it was wonderful! Note: you must pay in cash, as they don't accept cards.
Peameal bacon sandwich is pretty over rated, unfortunately. The texture is good but it's really salty.
Best place for a peameal or veal parmigan sandwich.
Their famous peameal bacon sandwiches are our go to we highly recommend. They are delicious and we usually get hot sauce, honey mustard and/or horseradish for sauces on our sandwiches. Their custard tarts are also fresh and delicious. Important to note though that they only take cash, even in these COVID times.
Love their peameal on a bun. Great service!
The peameal sandwich was a meh- overrated. The Portuguese egg tarts were very crispy (it was still warm)....
