Caniche has the true touch of an authentic bakery. Portions are small with a focus on quality and style. We don't have many places like this in the Hamilton area. Great for a coffee and treat or a custom order - they are quite versatile. It has become a weekly stop for myself.
Love the pastries here. This is our go to place for croissants, and pastries. Great selection. Come early because it sells out fast.
Tasty goods, great coffee and friendly service.
Fresh and delicious pastries
Amazing bread. Good coffee. Expensive.
We ordered from Caniche for the morning of our wedding, while everyone was getting ready. We're from Toronto, so I wasn't able to just walk in and place an order for that morning (got married in Ancaster). I made my order through email and they were very responsive and helpful with their menu items. The delivery was on time and everything was fresh! We had some specifics about what goes to which room and they labelled the boxes and made sure everything was delivered correctly. We ordered a variety croissants as well as Veggie and Lorraine quiches. Everything was delicious and people munched all morning - couldn't help themselves! We definitely recommend Caniche Bakery for any of your catering needs, or if you just want to walk in. Thank you to the Caniche Bakery team!
The service was amazing!! The coffee was great too!!
Delicious pastries
Staff friendly however not very helpful. Asked about ingredients of a bread. The stamp on the bag was not readable. Basically a shoulder shrug. Couldn’t or didn’t think to go to someone who might provide an answer. I feel the prices are a bit overpriced, others might be okay with. This is Ancaster.
Great french style bakery. The bread is amazing! Giant cheese bun we ate before we even got home! Didnt need butter it was so good.
Light flaky patries
Great Service very friendly and wonderful food. Very nice selection of Tea and a nice place to sit.
Always a bright spot in my day!
Pricey
When they got their espresso this became our go to place for morning lattes.
Amazing baked goods. Guilty pleasure and helpful staff.
Love this place!!! Delicious food and coffee!
Great service, great coffee, great pastries.
MMM
Best almond croissants and caneles in the GTA! A real french patisserie in my own backyard. Dangerous.
When I was studying in Paris, I would pick up a quiche every morning on the way to the metro. On the way back, I would pick up a baguette. My friends and I visited many of the top bakeries in the city and would try their pastries and croissants. I say this in an effort to add some weight to my next comment. Caniche makes the best quiche I have ever had! No competition. Better than any boulangerie or local bakery. Their croissants, both regular and almond are as good as any boulangerie I've visited as well. Their baguette game is lacking, and tasted more like bread from the south of Italy than anything French. Much too dense. 4/5 stars mainly because I had a negative experience when trying to order a cake through them and will not be going there for cakes in the future.
Great coffee and better food! People are fantastic.
More than five stars for the butter tart with the best pastry crust anywhere! Croissants are also extraordinary. Loved the iced tea and coffee.
Great friendly service that goes above and beyond. Plant of parking in the back and comfortable atmosphere. Love the croissants
First time there.....terrific baguette and best scones ever. It was a lemon almond scone. Delighted to support them!
Best croissants and sour dough bread ever. Balzac coffee is terrific too. Have always thoroughly enjoyed anything I've purchased at Caniche.
I haven't been to France but if I ever go I will hold every croissant up to the standard of this place. Their pain au Chocolat is perfect - no other way to describe it.
First time review... Tiny but packed with bakery and sandwiches and salad goodies. The first thing that stood out was the texture of the takeout cup. Can’t describe it except it was rubbery and easy to grip. The second was the eat-in room down the hall; gorgeous wood tables and chairs. Tried their daily sample—lavender cookies (a unique taste). Free wifi (Caniche346). There’s a parking lot a few stores down where the Rexall Pharmacy is located.
Found this place when searching for a French Bakery. What a great little location. Got a couple croissants. Best I’ve had my whole life…makes me question what I’ve been calling a croissant all this time. WOW. Can’t wait to go back again.
A gem of a business, and Ancaster is fortunate to have such a fantastic bakery. Croissants and pain subsides chocolat in the Parisian style, crispy and soft baguettes, and other house made pastries and goodies. Large room with comfy chairs and communal table for lingering with a properly pulled coffee or drink. If I lived closer I would there most days to start my day and then again for a pick me up in the afternoon. It’s worth the trip.
Went to get some Valentine's day goodies for my family. Staff was very friendly. The desserts were delicious! Moist and not too sweet. You can tell they were fresh baked by someone who knew what they were doing. Will definitely be back!!
Love this place
Caniche is an adorable and delicious destination in downtown Ancaster! We recently moved to Ancaster and visited Caniche for coffee and croissants. The service was wonderful. We will be back regularly to try all the homemade goodies.
What an exquisite place to be. Forever a favorite.
Everything I've ever had here is delicious. Breads, pastries, tarts... all so great
It was ok
Very friendly staff for helping me grandson and me chose our sweet treats and guiding me to the freshest pot of cafe
Delicious but expensive bakeries, small place to sit!
Fresh, friendly, possibly best in town Croissants. Worth it. Enjoy.
You will not find better or more authentic croissants anywhere else... even visitors from France say these Caniche croissants are among the finest buttery, flaky pastry they have enjoyed. Taking days to prepare and make, these pastries as well as other delicious baked goods make Caniche a wonderful place to experience true French and French-Canadian baking. They also serve Balzac coffee and have a quaint sitting area for conversation or reading the morning news before heading off to work.
I was getting a hankering for a real French croissant and I was pleasantly surprised with this cafe in Ancaster! I got a crab salad, which is served on a croissant-like bun (not proofed for as long as a croissant, so it's not as airy) and it was PERFECT! I got a latte to go with this treat, and a chocolate croissant for right after. Yum!! I also really appreciated the owner coming out and asking my feedback for the crab salad, and I love to see engagement ???? thank you !!
Wonderful wonderful people work here! Sarah, thank you so much for helping with our special surprise delivery! It was perfect!
(Translated) it was not french enough also the owner told me to suck HIS baguette (Original) ce n'était pas assez français also the owner told me to suck HIS baguette
Best pastries and breads in the area
The croissants were over baked and oily. The coffees were initiated just by number not with something clear for registration. I tried 3 other pastries, but all of them were too much oily which I could not eat them. I waist the money today!
Ordered a butter tart, confetti cupcake and croissant. The croissant was delicious, however the other two items I’m sure were equally as good the day they were made. Unfortunately they not only tasted days old my cupcake was so hard and stale I couldn’t even dig my nail into the top of it. The girl who served us was nice though. My suggestion test your purchase before you leave the bakery.
Best croissants in town. Really good coffee and classic French pastries like macarons and tarts. Great for bday cakes too.
Their chocolate cherry scones are to die for. Perfect crumble, perfect salty/sweet combo. Insane good.
Awesome pastries! We ordered croissants for our entire wedding here, and my French (Parisian) family was impressed!
Great coffee, friendly staff and awesome chocolate croissants.
Cookies and croissants were excellent! Especially enjoyed the maple Canada Day cookie. Looking forward to trying more treats from Caniche French Bakery.
Pain au chocolat with the best coffee
I drive by this bakery and even followed their socials for a long while. I finally stepped in yesterday with my father and the staff were so unwelcoming and so unfriendly. I genuinley was shocked. We said good morning to them, and the older woman at the cash kept aggressively asking " anything else " every time we tried to order something. I said to them as well that it was my first time their. They didnt respond. " what would you like" and " anything else " is all they said. The coffee and croissant was great, but I was SO uncomfortable I dont think I will ever go back ... I left feeling like I did something wrong. My father said they're always like that but he goes back because he likes the coffee. I dont think it's worth it. Definately a terrible start to my morning. I do want to try again, maybe it was a rough day for the employees. I woul love to have a bakery I visit on my way to work in the morning.i honestly feel uncomfortable walking in now though.
Stopped by for a treat and I was happily surprised that they had much more than baked goods and a couple of roasts of brewed coffee were available. The brownie was delicious
Old building with character. Pleasant staff.
Tucked away on Wilson Street but worth the stop as the coffee and homebaked goodies are delish. Stopped in after taking a cple for second shot...92yr old delighted in the dble espresso shot, cappuccino, balzac coffee and croissants were amazzzzzing! So happy they are surviving and by the looks of things...thriving. Feels good to support local...not just 'cause they are local but damn good too!
Don’t bother going anywhere else for raisin bread, theirs is as good as it gets.
Macaron $2.50 each. Tasted okay. Almond croissant $4. Outside dough very crispy and inside dough flavourful and soft. Accepts credit cards.
Bought a carrot cake on Thursday the icing was 3/4” thick the cake was about a 1/4”. Icing super sweet! Very disappointing
Fresh bakeries
Pastries are as good as in Paris. Delicious croissant. Lemon and chocolate tarts were just excellent.
Nice small bakery, but a little pricey
Good tasting butter tart and scone. Worth the trip.
Amazing food!
I always do my custom cakes here they do a wonderful job. I ordered two cakes for my daughters communion amd confirmation Virgina did an amazing job the sponge was soft melt in your mouth the buttercream was smooth not too sweet. Thanks Virgina for doing a awesome job everyone loved it. ????
Bread has been great. Pastries are good. Cute little store in the heart of Ancaster.
Great, delicious options and the shop is beautiful. Latte was amazing. The staff were friendly and so helpful! I can't wait to go back!
Amazing and fresh pastries, breads, coffee and sandwiches. Loved the large "communal" table for seating.
Delicious home made pastries tasting like they were fresh from Paris!
I ordered my unique pumpkin shaped wedding cake through Caniche bakery for my fall 2017 wedding. I met with Sarah and reviewed my specific vision with her and provided pictures of exactly what I wanted. She seemed excited to work on my cake. When I arrived at my wedding reception I was so disappointed to see what she had provided. The basic concept was 1/2 followed, but the execution was nothing like the picture or what we had discussed. The cake was very tasty, but overall I would never recommend Caniche bakery for a cake outside the norm.
Friendly staff, top quality baked goods.
Butter tarts are 'to die for '
Ordered Valentines Day cakes and biscuits.... unfortunately we have eaten them already as they looked far too nice and we couldn't wait until tomorrow! Absolutely delicious!!
Love this little bakery! We're regular "consumers' of their gastronomic delights:) Our personal favourites are the St, Agur (blue cheese) quiche, lemon tarts & apple/carrot/ginger muffins...but seriously - CHECK OUT this custom Decadent "Dude" cake they made for my husband's B-day! Rich, Guinness chocolate fudge cake, with dark chocolate ganache icing, peanut butter frosting accents, dressed with brownies, pretzels, chocolate covered espresso beans, pralines and other goodies! It was just AMAZING! Best cake ever!
I bought Éclair and baguette. Éclair's choux was hard. Almost like a cookie. Baguette was tough. And shop staff was not friendly. I was disappointed.
Amazing desserts; awesome coffee; delicious bread and such a cute atmosphere. Love this place!
This place has gone seriously downhill the last while. Products are not nearly as consistent as before. Taste, quality, and presentation have suffered. What's going on? I used to love this place! And the prices - if you're going to ask premium prices on your products, consider making a superior product. Interestingly, I've seen other reviews saying something similar, yet they are now absent. Did the reviewer change their mind, or is this place somehow getting less than stellar reviews removed?
Food was tasty. We tried the chocolate chip cookies and pain au chocolate. I would have liked a little more selection.
Excellent pastries, good coffee, great service. Go and support a top-notch local business in Ancaster!
I love the lemon tarts, croissants, and the quiche. Recently someone suggested the chocolate tarts and they certainly were wonderful.! :) Sue
Very unfriendly staff, certainly the food isn't that good to warrant a trip to be treated like so. They laughed about other customers in front of me. Ordered a Christmas cake, and you know what? They didn't even provide a box big enough to fit it in. Right, I had to carry the cake open-boxed home. Sure, never bought a cake like that before.
I would assume this is the only French bakery in Hamilton, and the only place that makes cannelés (not a lot of French bakeries are making cannelés even in Toronto). Overall a really nice place for afternoon tea, and they are offering lunch as well. Arrived a little bit late today so I missed the quiche. I will definitely come back for it!
Nice place to have some delicious croissants and pain au chocolat!!
Best bakery outside France! Scones, cookies, bread, croissants, etc.
Everything there is delicious
They are still selling stale croissants
My husband surprised me this morning with my favorite almond croissant from Caniche Bakery. Unfortunately it was burned crisp and hard as a rock. Maybe someone had a rough morning and didn't take them out in time but to actually sell something this burned would be a disgrace to a bakery in Paris.
The only other place I've had this type of magnificent pastry is Paris France! The almond croissant is the most delectable sweet piece of heaven. I cant wait to go back for lunch one day! Such a gem of Ancaster.
Best Cozy place in the heart of Ancaster. The staff always provide excellent customer service. Welcoming us with a smile. All their pastries are super yummy! I always try new stuff with their great latè Keep up the good work ????
Very friendly staff, good bread
Croissants
We visited the bakery on Sunday bought two croissants to munch on the way home also bought multi grain bread &2 lemon tarts for dinner all fresh and delicious. Yes it's a little pricey but I would say worth no complaints here!
Delicious
This place had lots of good looking breads and Jellies,as well as a tons of sweets. My wife and I came for the coffee. We both got a latte, which was really rich. It was not extremely bitter, so no sugar was needed. I got the cossont and my wife a morning glory muffin. Both were exceptional. The place to sit was cozy and had a nice atmosphere. I would recommend this place If you are in the ancaster area.
We drive 25 minutes almost weekly just to get their chocolate croissants. Butter tarts are to die for as well! So delicious.
Excellents pastries and delicious coffee
Everything looked great. We only had time for the baguette.
