The cake was tasty, but the photo presentation of the cake was really bad. I was planning my son's first bday for almost a year and the Cake failed me on the party. All the photos pasted in the cake had air bubbles in it and was peeling out and there was no clarity at all in any of the photos. Never expected that from a bakery like yours. If I had a chance, would not have picked the cake. The whole guests of 100 had the same opinion. Would never return or refer to anybody. For normal occasions and for eating the cake, its fine.

Oh my god the custard tarts! The custard tarts oh my god. Also all the sandwiches I've had here are awesome. Just enough heat, the meat is done right and the bread is fresh. The only complaint, if I'd call it that, is how convoluted the line up can get. Still well worth it

Custard tarts are out of this world good - also tried the cakes and they were great - looking forward to trying all the other items they have. Only reason for 4 and not 5 stars is they don't accept credit card payments, and I didn't have my debit card on me, luckily I had cash in the car.

Caldense is a great part of the Whitby community located right downtown. Their breakfast and lunch dishes are tasty and diner-style with Portuguese influence. The selection of pastries for takeout or eat-in is huge and everything I've tried has been delicious. Service is quick and courteous. And they pull a great shot of espresso too. Highly recommend.

I love Portuguese bakeries. And I was so delighted when this bakery opened up in Whitby. I love the tarts and several of the desserts. I gave it 3 stars because the lack of freshness. Too many times I was given stale or old items. I often visited bakeries in Toronto so I can tell the level of freshness. I think they have gotten so popular they are ordering and baking off site which is ruining the quality. I realize a business has to control costs but there's nothing worse than stale breads and pastries. Staff is not the friendliest.

So they have gluten-free options right but they're in a display Shelf mixed in with all other gluten products therefore making it cross-contaminated when I try to point it out to believe that was serving me she simply said I'm sorry nothing I can do might as well leave. I was solely trying to point out that that item was not gluten-free because it was now contaminated with the items that were gluten And as this is a life illness and not a fad and I must live like this for Life the way that the lady spoke to me made me feel very bad. I would not return ever. After pointing out to her that it was not gluten free because of cross contamination we had to fight because she was yelling at me and I was trying to tell her I just wanted to get a coffee and ended up leaving and went to Tim Hortons. ????BAD PLACE????

The food was fine, maybe a little overpriced, but fine nonetheless. I took issue with 3 things; 1. No refills on regular pot coffee at breakfast time 2. They don't accept credit cards; cash or debit card only 3. Your debit card must be issued by a Canadian bank. When I couldn't pay by credit card, I tried to use my Bank of America debit card/Apple Pay, it wouldn't accept it due to it being an International card. I even offered USD at par but they wouldn't accept it. I'm in Whitby often enough, but I know better to not bother going in here next time unless all my stars have perfectly aligned.

This place is amazing. Its great for all sorts of cakes, treats and baked goods. The custard tarts are to DIE for. They also have dine in breakfast and lunch (I recommend the veal sandwich - its delicious), and they have a deli counter where you can buy sliced meats and cheeses. Unfortunately, despite what the food may taste like, screaming at a woman for parking in a handicap spot when she has a permit for doing so shows a business owners true colours. Part of being a successful in any good industry isn't just the quality of food, but the service that is provided. After looking for a bakery to get some cakes that satisfy my sweet tooth, we came to the Caldense bakery and was happy to see the wide selection of cakes they had. You have Portuguese desserts and conventional stuff, like oreo cake, red velvet, black forest, and others. I am pretty sure i drooled as i was looking at the display. While i wasn't going in for breakfast, they do serve all day breakfast. The location was quite, but the business owner did say it is quite seasonal but they make their stuff fresh regardless incase it gets busier anyways. The business owner was quite humble, talked to us for a few minutes. Definitely takes pride in the business and works hard too. The location has its own parking lot, which is very convenient considering the location in whitby. Its a great place to bring family and enjoy some dessert, especially on a beautiful day in the spring, summer or fall. If you need to cozy up in the winter, go there too. Sure a sweet tooth craving is still being satisfied.

It's so hard not to buy one of everything. Their deserts are amazing, the custard tarts and canolies are my favourite. They absolutely kill it on the sandwiches and soups as well, everything tastes so fresh and they use high quality ingredients. They offer take out and eat in, you can order at the counter and have your food brought to you or they will also come take your order. There is usually a small line at the front but the staff are pros and get through it quickly. I can't recommend this place enough.

I contacted the owner/manager to advise them and he did offer my money back if we returned with the pastries but it was not worth the drive. After about a 2 year interregnum of mine and my Wife’s regular visits to the store, for the cod croquettes (particularly good), breads, tarts, and cheeses, September 8 I drove the 20 odd kilometres, for the croquettes and tarts. Everything had changed The croquettes are nothing more than mashed potatoes with parsley or some other vegetable mixed in. They no longer have the cod texture and the flavours native to the recipe. As for the ambient, It is now that of a police state. For health reasons I cannot wear a mask. But the people there were practically lining up to point it out to me. Even after I had told them that I could not wear it. More disturbing was the fact that in spite of having people seating at a table without masks, as expected, I had to wait outside for my order. Well, I am going to be outside for a very, very, long time.
