Relatively small bakeshop specializing in old-school Canadian bakery staples (cinnamon buns, butter tarts, etc.) with a hipster twist. There might even be a bit of a retro vibe going for it, with the white trays and unpainted wooden shelves, serving up anything from giant Oreo cookies, homemade chocolate bars, to apple crumble and... jars of preserves. This place is amazing. Every time I walk by I HAVE to go in and see what they have. It always smells absolutely fantastic in there at all times and the aesthetic/decorations are super pretty. Their sweets and pastries are to die for! I always try something new each time I go and everything I've had is amazing. The raspberry poptarts are out of this world!!! They also often have discounted items at 50% off that I've purchased a few times and they're always cheap and delicious. Plus the ladies who work in there are super sweet!!

Parking is pretty decent in the area, I've yet to be unable to stop within walking distance. The store front itself is fairly small but the service even when busy has always been friendly and helpful with a smile. The baked goods are delicious, everything I've had from there has at the very least been good if not excellent. We will likely be doing all our Easter dinner sweets from here. If there is any negative I can say about my experiences here is the prices. Although on par and equal with other artisan bakers it still seems a bit high to me. That being said the quality is always there and I've yet to be disappointed so I will continue to spend the few dollars more for the bread and treats.

There are no words for how incredible the staff and treats are here. They have unique and always delicious treats that cannot be found anywhere else. C and L has become a semi regular weekend stop. It involves a trip from another town, but it's always worth it.

Hands down my favourite bakery in Hamilton. Some disclaimers before you go! 1. They only have 2 parking spots and they're located on a busy road. So unless you manage to snag a spot at the strip across the street you might find yourself having to drive up and down Dundurn (or a side street) to find parking 2. Yes their stuff is on the pricier side but everything is made from local ingredients, from scratch, and they do pay their employees a living wage which is pretty cool 3. If you're going in for a snack cake well I hope you like a bit of cake with your icing ???? Seriously though this place is great for a treat, they do have some GF and vegan items, and the girls there are so friendly. Oh and their drinks are awesome. I'd chose them over Starbucks any day.

Can't believe their price for a small chunk of cookie dough. I may if absolutely necessary buy a Small item for the kids.

I've only been here a few times but everything I have tried is amazing! I had the chicken, cheddar & jalapeño sandwich today for lunch, it was absolutely fantastic. The chocolate chunk cookies are a bit expensive but worth every penny!

What started as essentially a 2 gal operation has continued to grow. Locally sourced ingredients make fantastic baked goods and lattes / coffees. They also have great supper options available -- like chicken and beef pies as well as many vegan options ( cashew cream vegetable pie) there is always vegan optioned deserts. Perfect birthday cake! The cake looked absolutely gorgeous (numerous comments from our adult & kid guests) and tasted delicious! We kept it simple - vanilla bean with butter cream icing. Just the right amount of sweetness to be yummy but not sickly sweet. Very reasonably priced. Our cake was for 16 but being a 4-tier cake could have really fed twice as many. We will definitely be return customers and will be sharing with our friends!

It's the creativity that stands out the most. Don't expect the expected. If your looking for the bakery on Dundurn, just follow the traffic jam. Parking is TIGHT. Be patient. It's worth it.

So many great things to say about Cake and Loaf. For starters, they are an equitable business who pay their employees a living wage. Everything is made from scratch on sight. They sell fresh breads, desserts, muffins, salads, sandwiches, soups, and of course delicious coffee and cakes and pies! They will do special orders to meet any of your needs. My favourite thing they make is a vegan date square. They keep them cold, so that with a black coffee is heaven sent. Good people making good food. They are an asset to our neighbourhood!

This place is never open unless you're a stay at home mom or without a job to catch them on hours that regular people function. Also overpriced with most of their products. Only took you two weeks to reply. Could have grown full soy beans by then. Also, respect for noticing that you've lost Batman for life. Your cakes are under appreciated and underwhelming. Everything I've ever put in my mouth from this place has been fantastic. Recently we ordered my daughter's birthday cake from here, and I walked in, not really knowing what I wanted, and ended up with the most delicious, and gorgeous creation. Real ingredients (honestly if I had to eat another Loblaws plastic-y sheet cake, I was going to barf), and lovely staff. Highly recommended for an event, or just a coffee and scone.

Cake & Loaf carries a number of items you won't see anywhere else, such as their Unicorn Viva Puff and Party Sammies. Despite the beautiful display of unique options, I don't think I will return to this bakery. The staff were rather cold, seemingly trying to get through the line as fast as possible. My visit was around noon on a Saturday, and they had no sandwiches available to order. Instead, I got a chicken pot pie, which was served to me in a grab and go bag. After paying, I noticed it was cold. I asked if they could heat it up, and they said no. The reason? "We don't have our oven turned on at the moment." This would have been a good thing to know when I ordered, instead of me deciding between eating the single-serving sized pie cold, or finding another place to eat. I was also disappointed by them not having any bottled water for sale, offering me a cup of water which was only filled halfway. The lack of cold drinks on their menu is disappointing, offering juice boxes and small bottled beverages, all more "exotic" flavours such as pear, grapefruit, and nothing more traditional like orange juice. If you're looking for unique dessert or snack items, this is the place for you. If you're looking for good variety and positive customer service, I would recommend looking elsewhere for a bite to eat.

I really do love all the treats they prepare here. Whenever I have family or friends come in from out of town, I buy everyone dessert from here! My one complaint, however, the front of store staff are always very cold when I come in. They seem to just be too busy or uninterested to bother being friendly to customers... that’s just my experience.

The Cake and Loaf is just amazing. I jog by this place every morning and the smell of the freshly baked goods always make my stomach growl. The 1st time I visited Cake and Loaf I was welcomed with amazing service and an aroma that made my heart skip a beat. Their variety is amazing. Get anything from full loafs of freshly baked cheese bread to perfectly frosted individual cinnamon buns. The chicken pot pie is amazing and their coffees, and lattes and teas make you feel warm inside and out. My roommate and I finished a whole loaf of Jensen Cheddar bread in one sitting. So consider yourselves warned.

My wife and I ordered a wedding cake from them. We had to run out and grab it in the morning and it looked good...from the outside. Then came time to cut the cake. The sugar roses were mounted to the cake with 6" long toothpicks and there were so many of them that you couldn't slice into the bloody thing without hitting one. By the time we got past the initial ceremonial cut, the bartender and I were performing surgery on it to make it safe for the guests to eat without getting splinters. When we all finally got to eat it, it was bland, dry and generally rubbish. I cannot UNrecommend this place enough.

I just recently moved to the area and discovered this bakery down the street from my house. You can tell the bakers know what they’re doing... meaning they DON’T overload everything with oil and butter to compensate for poor recipes. My most recent purchase was the lemon poppy seed loaf. It had the BEST and most unique texture. I can only describe it as dense angle food cake, but it was still somehow light? It was confusing in a good way! Everything else Ive purchased from cakes to cookies and pies have also been excellent. Nothing is overly sweet or rich. I find they have some really well balanced sweets. I love supporting locally owned small businesses. If you find the prices are too high, take some time to read some review responses to get a better understanding of what you’re paying for. It’s more than just a dessert :)

Best bakery in Hamilton in my opinion :D Their food is so so so delicious, I am a huge fan of the cakes, lattes, and anything that has to do with mini eggs. Definitely a little pricey compared to the grocery store bakery items but it's no surprise why. The product is superior and the employees are all so kind and bubbly, I feel like I'm talking to friends every time I go in. I highly recommend them for special occasions such as birthdays, baby showers, holiday treats OR just cheeky days when you need a little pick me up. I could go on and on!!

Never disappointed with C+L! We are big fans of C+L Market too! All of there sweets are well balanced with flavour and just the right amount of sweet. Love love love the stuffed cookies, baked donuts, and anything with cream cheese. Their Easter creations are drool worthy and we are currently loving the pumpkin flavours of fall. PS Would love to see the Brett Kissel whiskey cookie become a menu item!

This place is exceptional! Incredibly creative desserts and pastries and the staff is unbelievably kind with every visit. The bread is moist, light and packed with flavor, and every single pastry tastes exactly as described. The blondie is delectable; still heavy yet light on the stomach with rich vanilla and custard notes, with a perfectly balanced butter cream frosting! The only negative feedback I have is it's definitely on the pricey side for a lot of items that you would typically think of as cheaper like brownies, cookies or crème eggs, and the small meat pies only have a pie lid rather than an entire crust or casing. Having said that however, the quality is well worth the price. This place is a hidden gem and I will definitely be returning in the future!

Went to buy a cake, and I understand that you should order ahead but I didn't. Went in and tried to order a cake but they didn't have the size or kind. So I went with all different variables until the guy finally said "oh ya, we can do that". Did this about 4 times, and when I finally eat the cake, it was dry and with flavorless icing. I'm sure their pastries were great but cakes? Maybe I caught them on a bad day.

Love this place! ???? delicious, yummy treats and coffee/tea drinks. Almost all their treats are great. I've had some lacklustre selections though. I used to love their chai latte but my last one was so bland. Perhaps the tea needs to steep for longer or steep the teas before a person orders so it doesnt taste like milky water. Also their items are pricey. $7.50- $8.50 for a brownie. $4 for a cookie. I'll still go here but i have to eat here less often.

It goes without saying that the food here is delicious. My friend who is a chef at a fine dining restaurant calls them wizards. But more than the talent and friendliness of the staff, I applaud their customer service. For thanksgiving I'd ordered a salty honey pie. On pickup day, they mistakenly gave me a lemon meringue. I told them and they didn't have any left and were closing soon. So as a quick apology they gave me a free Boston cream pie (which I soon learnt is a cake). Not only that, but they told me to contact them after the weekend to get a free salty honey pie as well. So here I am, a very pleased customer eating delicious baked goods made by a lovely team. They are classy as hell and everyone should support them!!

Great product and staff. This is not a cheap place, but given the quality of the food, the emphasis on local ingredients and the fact that they insist on paying their staff "living wages" which is between $15-18 an hour and close on holidays to give staff time off, it is well worth it. Fantastic bakery!! I see other reviews complaining about size and eating in...get over it! Take your tasty snacks and hit a park or something! The point here is that the rum soaked fruitcakes at Christmas were brilliant! I ordered a vegan chicken pie and had so many compliments in it. Yes, it's a small space...but see here's the thing, Order Ahead! They have a great online service. All of my baked goods were fresh and ready for pick up.

Tried their pumpkin cheesecake pie and it was decadent and super flavourful - however I feel like their pie was extremely overpriced. I only got a small pie, which I was told is 4 inches (I didn't get to see the product prior to purchasing as it was curb-side pick-up), but when I got my pie, it was literally the size of a buttertart and I paid almost $9 for it! I think it would be worth the time to grab a full sized pie - but don't buy the minis as they're not worth the money for a couple bites.

Went to Cake & Loaf this weekend to try some baked goods. We got the PB Crunch, cookies and cream sandwich, date square, and cranberry apple loaf. Most of the items were pretty good, but they tasted really really oily. Everything was also more expensive than a comparable bakery. Still good, but be prepared to shell out some cash for some decent treats. Good options for my vegan friend which is a plus.

Love this bakery. Yesterday was my first time coming to Cake and loaf bakery. ????????Bought some unicorn goodies to show support for Pride month. Also bought a pink lemonade which was delicious! ???? The staff were so helpful and patient as I had no idea what I wanted. Spent a small fortune but it was completely worth it. You are paying for someone’s wages and for the ingredients to make the delicious products you buy. So before you complain about the price, be mindful as to why it costs the amount on the products. Everything was fantastic and packaged very nicely. Support local business! ????????

Although I love supporting a local business, the prices here are astronomical. 6.25$ for a loaf of bread ??? At weils (bakery in westdale) the bread is under or around 3$. The one brownie I saw was $7.50, which is insane. Everything was obviously prepared with love and flair, some very unique items, but this will not be a regular place for us. They also only had two types of bread-no whole wheat or multi grain available.

Very cute place, cool themes and neat flavours - as many have said the items are a bit too sweet though. They need a balance of bitter bitter or acidity to cut through the sweetness (like the unicorn bars). I got a sweet latte with one and that it was just overwhelming. Doing the Cha time model of half / quarter sweet on the drinks might be nice too. It was really good and quaint. I'd come back but be very choosy on my next item and look for some of those counter balance flavours to balance the sugar. Good service, cool selection.

We don't go much anymore, but we do love their chocolatier and new local coffee initiative. We used to love this local bakery for all things baked and sweet, but about two years ago things changed. Their quality became inconsistent, particularly during busy holidays, and their prices went up. The turning point was a bad Easter experience. We stood in line for a long time, and were eager to try their beautiful looking treats. We bought an eclair, several boxes of chocolate eggs, and an expensive meat pie. Total bill was about $70. The eclair was inedible, one box of eggs tasted off like toothpaste (the other was great), and the pie was grossly oily and not very appetizing. We feel they're products have become overly sweet, and made pretty for instagram, but their quality is not great. They're still good, and worth a visit if you're from out of town, but now we mainly go to Weil's or Bitten (both local), or Kelly's bake shop (Burlington).

Delicious desserts and fantastic service. My wife and I wanted a stacked donut wedding cake and, the staff at Cake and Loaf Bakery was very excited to help us make our idea a reality. They were very professional, helpful and quick to return our calls. They took care of setting up the cake on the wedding day, and they did not disappoint. We received a lot of compliments from our guests as to how great the cake looked and how fresh it tasted. Ordered a birthday cake for my daughter at the last minute, no time to bake something at home. This place in my books comes the closest to our home made cakes. Their cake tasted great and the butter cream is sweet and creamy not too salty - just right. The cake was moist and had hints of vanilla. So happy with my last minute purchase, pricey but definitely fair for what you receive. Not only did the cake taste great but it looked absolutely awesome! Didn't try anything else, but all my daughter's rave about the COFFEE.

Quick, friendly service with delicious baked goods. This is all crammed into a Locke St-esque sized building. They had many sweet things such as cinnamon buns slathered with cream, a big cookie with mini-eggs, even pretzels and scones. They also serve hot and cold drinks, so i'd say they are a plus for the area. Worth going into but they are a little expensive. Bring lots of money!

The best time of year to come here is around Easter. This bakery makes their own creme egg. It is delicious. They also make a creme egg brownie which I prefer. Each layer is striking in contrast and it’s so fudgy. Their ruffle square with mini eggs and homemade marshmallow is good too. They make really original and fun creations too. It is a pricey spot so bring your wallet and be prepared to spend.

I was very happy with the natural red velvet wedding cupcakes and cake topper Nickey created for us. Nickey was very supportive in helping us choose the right cupcakes and very creative when it came to custom designing our cake decorations. She took great care in making sure we were happy with everything including making us samples for testing multiple times. The cake looked beautiful and tasted just as delicious as it looked! Her cream cheese icing is amazing!

Everything there is always delicious! The Jensen cheddar loaf is so good that you can just eat it on its own without anything on it. The chicken pot pie is also one of my go-to favourites. If you're in need of comfort food you should definitely try it. Other favourites for me are: the OMG bar, mint chocolate pie (I think it was cheesecake and they also used Girl Guide cookies), anything they make with cream cheese icing, the big skor cookie. Honestly I could be here all day because I love all their food. Plus, they also pay their workers a living wage. What's not to love about Cake and Loaf?

Overpriced. Not very professional. They take on more orders than they can fill. Quality of products were not great. Pies leave much to be desired. I applied for a job there and had a interview. Glad I was not hired as they seem to be homophobic and racially biased. There are no vegan or sugar free options. Which I wanted to introduce. I will stick to old school bakeries and delicatessens elsewhere.

These guys are amazing. A little pricey but worth it. If you need a really good last minute cake they usually have ones you can grab but it is first come first serve so best to call ahead of time. They also do holiday cookie trays which are really good.

I have been here twice now in a span of a few years. The first visit I tried the mini egg latte, mini egg cheesecake, lemon cheesecake and cream egg brownie. The best items were the cheesecake. The second time I visited, Wednesday February 5 2020 around 2pm, I got 4 Nutella cheesecakes and one mini cinnamon bun. Disappointed they were sold out of the Nutella Belgiums. Parked on a side street and walked over as only two parking spots beside the location. Great tasting items but pricey. Not a place I visit often but for certain seasonal items.

I had to leave this review cause i was so disappointed after reading all the other high star reviews. Where do i start? i called 10 am to place a pick up order . When i arrived i paid and left the store drove down the block only for my husband to tell me a item is missing not happy since i paid 30+ dollars for some desserts for my husband birthday. Then the parking for this place is so small and tight also off a busy road hard to get in and out so another issue with this place why should i have to worry about getting into a accident to get some treats? i kindly explained to them i paid for 6 desserts and only got 5 which after the lady calculated it on her phone cause no way for them to track any orders placed which again is strange for a place that charge so much for items. High end desserts i kinda expect high end service , i don't know maybe a receipt with item and price just a thought. So after all that we get home which is a good 25 minute drive and dive into a 7 dollar unicorn bar now again at that price point i'm expecting something with so much flavor and such great taste that i would want to spend 7 dollars again but what i got was something that tasted okay but nothing special i wouldn't rave about this dessert at all . This point thinking okay 1 out of 6 items so there is a lot of room for improvement with other items but it didn't get any better. The next thing i had was a cinnabon which was sold out when i got there so i thought this must be one of the really good desserts since none left at store. Husband picked his up and right away said that its hard a rough exterior not light and flurry that you would think for something that's fresh and baked daily he gave it a 3 out of 10. This point we both had enough to the point we left the rest of desserts in the bag and put in fridge for later cause couldn't eat too much sweets at once . The last thing we tried together was the skor cookie which was good but its 2 giants cookies filled with tons of sweet cream and tons of caramel which could of been a good thing but just way too much sweetness going on for you to really enjoy it we both felt sick before finishing the cookie. we both agreed we would give it 5/6 out of 10 cause it tasted good but maybe just too much sugar going on in one item. I wasn't going to leave a review but after you see cake and loaf explaining how the prices are so high so they can pay workers a good wage which is a great thing. I just thought lets leave a more realistic review so people expectations aren't so high before arriving. This isn't a review for a refund or free items cause we still have desserts left in the fridge that we wont eat. Just want people to know the experience of someone who can pay high prices for desserts but wont be back cause nothing special is being served here.

I got the everything "bagel" which is more of a pretzel than a bagel. It's so good! You don't need any condominents with it and it's packed with flavour. Also tried the skor cookie with the filling the middle. It's really sweet so I could only eat half and saved the rest for later, but was also very delicious. It has a carmael filling in the middle too which was nice. Everything was super fresh and tasted great! Cute atmosphere too.

I purchased my wedding cake through Cake and Loaf for my wedding this past weekend. Everything about the cake and service was amazing! First off, they accommodated us right off the bat with making a vegan wedding cake. The groom is vegan (I am not) and I wanted to make sure that there was a dessert at the wedding that he could eat and enjoy without any worry. Cake and Loaf was upfront with us right away with the challenges of making a vegan cake to make sure we were aware. That was nice because we wouldn't have known. It didn't matter to us. The challenge with vegan cakes and mine in particular is the "butter" cream. It doesn't have the smooth look that regular butter-cream has. It also isn't as strong as regular cakes so getting perfectly stacked tiers can be difficult (or at least that's how I understood it). Cake and Loaf made sure that we understood this before we purchased anything and made our choice ,which was great. We decided to go with the vegan cake and I am so happy we did. It looked amazing ( 4 tiers (bottom tier fake for stability), white butter-cream and decorated with flowers). It was a simple design but that's exactly what I wanted. The best part about it was the taste. We had a chocolate and peanut butter cake and it was delicious. All of my guests loved it (vegans and non-vegans alike). Usually wedding cake is less than stellar (at least in my experience) but this one was really tasty. The price for the cake was also extremely fair. Everything for my wedding was done through businesses in Hamilton (and I don't even live there nor am I from there) and I can't praise them enough. The service and quality of Hamilton businesses are amazing and offer the same if not better service for better prices in comparison to the GTA.

Great little bakery. I tried the skor banana doughnut, skor cookie sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie, we also had a regular latte and a roasty toasty marshmallow salted caramel latte. Everything was excellent, starting with the customer service and ending with all the treats. I would highly recommend checking out this place.
