Love this place, it's a place stop from bakery goods to hot plates food. Tried their pastries and mini baked stuff, also bought home their pasta from the hot place along with garlic bread. Everything tasted delicious and fresh. Staff is helpful, would highly recommend this place.

With not a lot of (Italian pastry) selection, Monastery is definitely more deli than bakery. It's alright in terms of its sweets, but I found it quite sugary and not as impressive as I've heard. I wouldn't consider it one of the greatest, but it's not one of the worst either. -- "Mimi's Cake Tour"

However, a main downside is that its on the very expensive side of the market... there is nice chistmas gifts packaging which makes it a bit unique... i have enjoyed the experience and service... the place also has a coffee bar which is very good and fairly priced... will be back again

Great selection of meats and breads ...basically a full grocery store on a smaller scale. Went there hyped up to try their donuts. 1. Donuts did not live up to their hype. Too much dough, not enough flavor. 2. Bread options were plenty. Go early, alot of the good stuff runs out early. Consume the breads rather quick, or they get really hard. 3. Pastry counter was amazing. Tiramisu, carrot cake, triple choc mousse...all delish. For someone fron central Mississauga, not worth the drive but do try if you are in the area.

Incredible variety of hot and cold dishes, pastries, bread, meat and just about everything you can think of. Quality is always top notch, and some items are very inexpensive while others are MUCH more than a typical grocery store. Also, the parking is insane, constantly. Still... recommended if you have time to look.

This is a big bakery which also contais a restaurant and all sorts of food . This place is excellent if you are purchasing cakes or pastries or tarts ( their fruit tarts are delicious by the way ) or baked goods or any desserts . I personally haven't tried their restaurant yet , but I can assure you that the quality of their food is good and that I am looking forward to trying their menu . I also know that most, if not all of their baked goods , cakes , pastries and tarts are Halal . Although all the food is fine quality , Monastery bakery is a little higher priced than all the other bakeries out there, but believe me when I tell you that you are getting your money's worth . Finally, I do recommend you stopping by one of their shops and trying one of their delightful foods there .

The line up at 3:30 pm on a Wednesday was about 20 minutes. Most customers wore masks, but masks were not mandatory for customers. All staff were wearing masks. The pastry case was open for business. I bought a dozen assorted pastries for $27. There was a line up to go into the back room, where the breads and pies are. The shelves in that section are roped off and staff will serve you to get what you point to. Service was cheerful, friendly, and prompt.

The best fresh bread in Oakville! Always fresh, delicious and not too expensive. The deli counter is cheaper than your local supermarket, with a nice variety of Italian products. If you plan to go on the weekend, go early the bread sells out fast

Still one of the best around after all these years. Bakery and hot foods are great. Grocery area is building a nice supply but knocking one star off as the produce just doesn't cut it. If organic I'd understand but it's not and generally don't buy a lot of fruit and veg here if not using it within a day or two. Still the place to go and rarely will you be disappointed.

The best bakery in Oakville! Awesome hot food bar! Tons of options like pasta, pizza, sandwiches, salads, etc... If you're going around noon it can get very busy so try to get there early or after the rush. It also has a small grocery store section if you want to pick up milk or eggs.

Worst customer service (the guy at customer service). Bread is good but cakes are really average for an italian bakery. Longos has better strawberry shortcake than here. It tasted like an old fridge. Chocolate cake tasted boring. Very dry fried chicken.

Quality has gone down lately, Purchased loaf of Garlic Bread and found that the bread was way thicker compared to the amount of garlic butter they put on top of it. The butter layer was so thin that it did not even reach top 10% of the bread thickness. Someone should teach them how to prepare simple Garlic Bread. I would not buy Garlic bread from there anymore. It was under $5 product and doesn't really matter to me throwing it away but cutting corner this way is not good.

The Monastery Bakery used to be a great place, but over the years it has grown so fast the quality has gone down and the prices have gone up. A few examples are the Tuscan Roasted chickens were amazing and such a joy to buy and bring home, now they don't even taste nice and they are just mass produced. They used to have nice BBQ ribs, the racks have become smaller and the price sky rocketed from $9.99 to $15.99. Greed has surpassed quality and it's very unfortunate because The Monastery used to be a great place to go and you really could impress your company with items purchased here, but now it's just grocery store quality.

Always fresh. Excellent variety of products, including quality fresh produce. Haven't found a better pastry section than Monastery's elsewhere! Polite & helpful staff and good management that's proactive in responding to the changing situation recently due to COVID19, through enhancing their delivery service. Small suggestion: I like the idea of the discount/loyalty card, but cashiers should be consistent in ask each customer for it, and not just selectively.

Really amazing to see the progress this bakery has made! Their food is great quality and consistent! I look being able to pick up some homemade oven-ready meals that healthy and delicious. Their hot food section also has some really great items. This place is constantly busy, especially on weekends and on school lunch breaks - so be prepared in these are the only times you can stop by.

Huge bakery with assorted cakes and breads. I absolutely love their bagels! All their baked products are very reasonable and very fresh. The staff is friendly as well and they seem like they are happy to be there. I just recently explored this place and now a big fan. I have heard its really crowded in the morning and it's hard to find the parking.

I was very disappointed. Called yesterday, Friday, and asked what time I could come today to buy the Pecan Coffee Cake to take to a birthday party. I was told that they would be ready at 4:00PM. I missed an Important appointment for fear of being at Monastery after 4:00 as these cakes go fast. Got there at 4:00 to learn they did not bake it. Talk to customer service who simply apologized and said that usually they do not bake them if there are no requests. That is my favourite coffee cake. I was told by the owner, the cake would be available the next day. Too late! Expected customer service to have had a different response rather than just an apology. They have grown so much and seem not to care about a dissappointed customer! I simply left and went to a small, good customer service Portuguese bakery.

Terrible customer service and delivery service. After many phone calls and emails for 2 days, I finally got my order placed last night. I was never told the time of delivery then 7:20 am this morning I get a call that my order was left outside the door of the lobby of my building. I asked the man on the other line to wait until I get someone to go get it and he left. Didn’t even bother to wait so no one would take my order. Great place to buy a variety of foods. There is baked goods, cakes, deli meats, premade hot food, produce, snacks and even a place to pick up a coffee and drink it while shopping. Definitely a lovely place to shop.

A great Oakville success story! They started out as a small bakery and have almost taken over the whole plaza! Amazing! The only downside is parking in the lot can be a bit tricky at times so you may have to park in the neighbourhood and walk a bit. They have an amazing selection of breads and bakery items and a great deli counter and meat selection. Some good prepared meals as well if you don’t feel like cooking by yourself everyday.

This is really good bakery. There is usually a line up these days because of covid. They have a large variety of breads, bagels, buns and pastries. The prices are very reasonable like regular bread these days are $2.50 a loaf. This is a one stop shopping as there is also groceries, fresh fruits etc. They also sell ready to eat food like pizza and other things. Staff is very friendly and helpful. You can get your bread as a whole or they can slice it for you.

I have been a loyal Monastery bakery customer for 18+ years, back when it used to occupy just a couple of store fronts in the plaza. Everything here is fresh and delicious, right from the baked goods and pastries, to the hot meals to go, to the wonderful deli. It's is extremely busy on weekends and so the parking lot can be a bit of a deterrent. I just go on a weekday now instead. The reason I only give 4 stars is that this place goes through plastic bags like crazy! No one seems to be encouraged to bring their own ☹️ Really wish they would offer some of their own reusable bags for sale or implement an incentive/fee system. I always bring my own bag but I am definitely in the minority. Also, take out etc. is offered in styrofoam. Come on Monastery Bakery! Please make this small but environmentally significant change!

They have everything! They offer alot of choices in their walk-in bakery- plenty variety of breads, sweets, doughnuts, cookies and speciality delicacies. Plus they offer customized celebration cakes at a reasonable price. Also, produce are always fresh. Lastly, only downside is limited parking. If you're there at a rush hour, good luck.

Very nice bakery and delicatessen! Tried it today for the first time and got a strawberry shortcake and some creame horns. They were freshly made and very delicious. The cream horns were very fresh and flaky. No wonder they're so crowded because they have very good quality food and desserts. They also have fresh hot foods that are made everyday there. I also tried heir mini sushi (6pcs) and the sushi were super fresh. Will definitely revist!

Been going to bakery for over 12 years. I hope they take over the entire plaza, its been evolving that way, so keep acquiring store fronts. Tip, enter lot from the west entrance and park on the west side as well. Doesn't seem as congested and may not have to waite for spot to open up. Also back into spot if possible, will make exit much less stressful. Parking stalls seem more narrow then normal, watch out for car door opening dings on your car. As for product, top notch, best in Oakville.

went there during the weekday morning to take advantage of their $1 latte special and a guy (assuming owners son) was serving me, charged me full price and I told him that the special is on, and he rudely replied "that only applies to real milk, not almond milk"...meanwhile no where on the sign does it indicate that...and you'd think that if its your store you'd be more prudent on things like that...just terrible attitude and I did not appreciate it. Its funny how something as simple as a response can just make you feel negatively towards the store even though they have excellent foods and other goods.

This is THE place to get fresh bread and charcuterie in Oakville. If you walk in at any time before noon, you can smell it. Their entire back room is full of different kinds of bread and pastries, done in house. The deli selection is quite diverse and of good quality. They also serve as your local epicurean market and have their own hot food section, pastries and espresso bar. The food itself is quite delicious and simple, serving Italian classics from veal parmigiana to tortellini alla Vodka to pizza, as well as all the classic pastries and espresso drinks. If you live in Oakville and you don’t know about monastery, do you really live in Oakville? Don’t miss out, check this place out!

This place is an absolute treasure, tucked just out of the way in Oakville. The grocery is exceedingly well stocked with staples and specialty items from Italy. All goods are quality and it's clear that great care is taken when selecting what to put on the shelves. What really make this place so special is the hot table and the bakery/cafe. Both of them offer an amazing selection and here again, quality is at they heart of what they do. For a quick bite of lunch, an easy take-out dinner or loading up for a party or large gathering, it's ALL good at Monetary Bakery.

My personal favourite grocery store in Oakville. They are a local non franchise business that deserves your support if you are close by. Best bakery fresh bread quality and variety. You have to try the jalapeño bread and the cheese bread. They also have a great delivery service which I highly recommend as well.

A treasure trove of baked goods. Exceptionally busy but understandable why, Monastery Bakery has everything you could want in a bakery AND more. We especially like the pumpernickel bread and the chocolate strudel. Definitely need to try more of what is on offer, the delicatessen looks amazing. Parking is a nightmare here especially at busy times, there are stewards outside to direct the cars however what their system is, is unclear and after a lengthy and patient wait you may still end up waiting for a space as they seem to overlook you at times.

As a recent resident to this area I visited Monastery for the first time. My impression.....WOW.... what a surprise. The selection of products was amazing We purchased some veal parmesan at the food section and a meat lasagna along with bread and cookies. Everything was excellent and we were not disappointed in any way. We will become regulars at this establishment and would have no reservation in recommending Monastery to anyone.

Ordered: customized cupcakes with rosette icing and silver beads. Review: I normally shop here for their baked goods such as pastries, bread, cheese, etc but recently I called their customer service to inquire about making customized cupcakes for my friend's upcoming bridal shower. Not only were their service very friendly, and courteous, they also called back to confirm details and follow up with any questions I had for them! Their prices are very decent and that's why I'm writing this part of this review: to spread the word on their nice service they offer behind the scenes. Interesting tidbit: parking can be difficult here during weekends but there are ample street parking before the main entrance that is spacious and free!

Known this place since early nineties. Use to buy weekly bread, bun, and cold cut. It has changed over the years. Now a days its more of grocery store. Some products are made in store and some brought in. Overall this bakery is well known and well liked in Oakville and I like it too. My two grips: it has lost that authentic Italian place and the sitting area for coffee/espresso is almost gone.

The owner was impatient and impolite, he also refused to work with the police to check his cctv camera after my car was deliberately scratched with a sharp item (maybe a key) in his parking lot. The parking lot staff doesn’t know how to do their job, and was very condescending and rude. The food quality has been on a downhill ever since I first visited, definitely not worth the hype.

Classic deli/bakery/food store in Oakville. Been a staple in this region for decades as it has slowly expanded and taken over nearly the entire plaza. Great place to get excellent food at reasonable prices. Theres a sit down area if youd like to eat in, they also do catering. Often has free samples and can be busy around lunch time with highschool kids during the week. Most days a lot of the fresh food is all bought and gone by 6pm or earlier. Theres hot and ready food, fresh orange juice, italian food and drinks, fresh fruit and vegetables, cakes and pastries, deli, fresh bread, and more. They also have a rewards card and the store is wheelchair accessible. The traffic here can be typically so high that they even hire someone to direct traffic on weekends. Be prepared to wait for parking, sometimes its easier to just park behind the store. Definitely reccomend their hot and ready pasta or their chicken and potato wedges!

Sad to say I was underwhelmed by this place. With the 4.7 star score, expected it to be above and beyond an average bakery. Upon arrival, you could see the place was busy... typically a great sign/gauge for how fresh the food is/should be. Pasta tasted old and so did the sushi (why do they sell sushi anyway)... only thing that was kind of good was the bread, which even then for busy Sunday afternoon should have been softer and fresher than it was.

We buy bread and baked goods (croissants, bagels, danishes) only there! That's all I have to say, it is simply the best bakery for us. Black Forest Ham is our favorite here, as well as extra lean kielbasa and parmesan. Fruits and veggies are always fresh, staff is so friendly. Expect a line for bread&co, and meat section, but it is worth it. The parking is pretty busy as well especially during classical lunch hours (that is because of the hot ready lunches section of the store, we take wings there sometimes). I highly recommend this place.

I enjoy the food and what they offer. I absolutely hate how busy it can be as you sometimes find yourself squeezing through people. I hate the parking which has never changed in the last decade - at least from since I’ve been going. I’m not sure why this hasn’t improved with how busy it gets. Half of the customers here are in their own world so be prepared for death glares, shoulder bumps and people speeding through the parking lot to find a spot before anyone else. But again, excellent food and other offerings at this location.

Fabulous spot the only thing it loses a star for is parking. It's a disaster every single time I go there. A little off the beaten track but well worth the detour. Bread, bagels, cheesesticks are amazing. Desserts (try the crema!), cakes, cheesecake... I haven't had anything here that wasn't amazing. It is super busy in here and for the fresh breads you have to go early. We've also had some prepared meals that were fantastic as well. Meatballs, pasta sauce, lasagna - all great. They also have a hot table with everything from fried chicken to samosa.

Long time customer. In person shopping is great, quality, great staff, many options of unique products. However, I recently tried an online order and had the opposite experience. I went to the website to order my list, some items were not available (fresh deli meats, less then 6 or 12 buns, ground meat packs) I then sent an email with my list so I could buy more items not listed. One item was on sale online, however online prices were not valid via email orders. They expect you to make 2 orders for all you want, online and then email. Both $50 minimum and pay both delivery charges, odd. Also they forgot 1 item on my email order and when I emailed them back the ignored me. Imagine ordering everything for a specific recipe and they forget one item so you either have to make another $50 order with another delivery fee or show up to shop in person... defeats the purpose of delivery. This is not my first issue with delivery, I have had other issues but they had minor impact. In person is great, delivery... stick to the pros.

I have been shopping in this store for a very long time and I have always had a good experience of shopping and staff being extremely helpful. Unfortunately this morning when I went into shop I had a really bad experience with a member of named Bonita, I accidentally went up the wrong way and apologized for that, then she continued to verbally abuse me after I had apologized. I understand how difficult these times are and staff need to do there jobs. We ordered our christmas turkey dinner from Monastery and it was delicious! we had them deliver and they were on time and the turkey was hot and fresh! it tasted a lot better than highland farms. I’m a constant and loyal customer at the bakery almost every day, I just wanted to mention that I got a bit disappointed with the Bacio cake I got yesterday. I’ve been buying cake from the bakery since they opened and the cake was always delicious, and perfectly made. Recently the tiramisu cake was literally all cream from inside, none of my family members were able to finish their pieces. The Bacio I got yesterday, looked a bit not fresh as the chocolate topping was starting to crack, and it was so very sweet we couldn’t eat it. I’m sorry but I’m really disappointed with the cake quality lately and since I know that those cakes didn’t taste like this years ago, I really don’t know what’s the reason.I think I will avoid getting those cakes in the future.

Update: November 2020 Recently I had a poor unprovoked experience with a staff member at Monastery Bakery. As a 20-year loyal customer here, it may be a sign that as popularity of the establishment increases, some of the friendly family service that made the establishment what it has become, is now going away. I will definitely be visiting much less (if at all going forward) as no one should have to put up with rude staff in any establishment. I am happy my daughter was not with me at the time. You always have other options as to where to spend your money. I will update this review as time passes, but this very negative experience of discrimination has definitely left a blemish for me that has led to a star reduction. I did contact the establishment to let them know how of the incident. Not sure what, if anything, they will do about it, but I can assure them that no customer wants to be discriminated against by staff at Monastery Bakery (or anywhere else). Hopefully they will take it seriously. Original Review As a longtime resident of Glen Abbey, I have watched Monastery Bakery grow and expand from a small resident of the plaza, to the dominant tenant occupying almost all of the retail space here. This didn't happen for no reason. Monastery Bakery has long been known by locals as a go-to destination for fresh baked breads, rolls, cheese sticks and much more. Over the years they have added fresh hot foods, a coffee bar, a wide range of cheeses and a ton of groceries -- to the point that today Monastery has become an upscale grocery store filled with unique and hard-to find items. The fresh meats section has also grown and is a good option for various fresh foods. Locals who remember Bruno's will find Monastery to be a worthwhile destination. Sure it has changed as it has grown over the years (and parking can be an issue at busy times), but all in all Monastery Bakery is worthy of a visit (and most likely a return visit for first-time customers).

What an amazing gem located in Oakville! I just left Monastery and can’t say enough about the incredible service. Staff are smiling and engaging and more than willing to go out of their way to help...it was refreshing! The absolute best biscotti I have ever had! I A beautiful gourmet bakery, hot table and espresso bar plus a variety of cheeses, meats and just about everything else that you would expect from a bakery. Family run with over 30 years of experience. Get there early on the weekend as it gets very busy! I will be back very soon for more biscotti - enjoy!

Always good food!!! Nice staff. Only thing I don't like is that I have a loyalty card but they don't apply discount on every item, why? I'm paying to them... Ex. The milk is more expensive than in other stores and in addition they don't apply the discount on it.

I ordered from the catering menu on line. I did call to get some help with how much to order for our gathering but while the employee was very polite and tried to be helpful I did not get much more info than what was already on line. But overall I had a very good experience. The catering menu has a lot of variety. I ordered a number of different dishes - salads, party trays, brisket, buns etc. The delivery charge was very reasonable at $15. We had a 1 to 2pm delivery window and the truck arrived at about 12:50. The food was fresh, tasty and plentiful. Overall a pretty painless way to cater our family event.

I watched this bakery take over a whole plaza with their expansion over the past 10 years. Gone from bakery and deli to grocer. Their hot table foods are renown, their cakes and pastries are exquisite, bread is fresh, and deli is always a lineup. Try to avoid the busy hours or prepare to grab a ticket number for each section of your shopping. If crowds aren’t your thing they have a large fleet of delivery trucks for the GTA. Give them a call, their service in my experience has always been honest, helpful, and friendly.

I would give Monastery a higher rating, but the service has gone downhill in recent years. Customer service in any department other than at the cash registers isn't very friendly anymore, and many of the staff behind the hot table regularly do not wearing food prep gloves, often touching the inside of the food containers. Please bring your service back up to the standards it once was.

Cake pick up is a joke. You would need to wait in like for 30 mins outside to get in even though the cake is paid for. I would recommend to have a seperate entrance for cake up pick only as it doesn't make sense to wait for a pick up order thats already been paid for. When you get the bakery section you will need to also wait too , no point of the time slot if you can walk in and just get it. When I went to pick up the cake it wasn't even ready and my pick up time was from 3pm - 4pm while I showed up at 3:30pm....

We moved to Oakville in 1996 when we discovered an amazing small bakery operating out of a small single kiosk on Monastery Drive. Since then we have watched Monastery consistently grow to the point where they now occupy most of the kiosks in the shopping plaza. The reason for their phenomenal success is simple to explain but hard to do. Everything they do is for their customers. A small example is because of Covid protocols customers have to line up outside and wait. Due to this Monastery has put up wind/weather protection (where the customers line up) so their customers are shielded from the harsh weather. This may seem like a small thing but it shows how they always put themselves in their customers shoes and see and run their business from the customers stand point. It is a foregone conclusion that all of their items pies, cakes, breads, deli meats, lunch counter items etc. etc. are top quality and value priced. I admire and salute their success and without reservation say that they are one of the best run businesses in Oakville.

Best bakery I’ve been to, ive been coming here since they first opened. When they first opened as the small bakery in the last unit they were amazing and they have only grown in quality and service. Prices are a little higher but for the quality it’s worth it. They now offer hot food, groceries, meats, specialty imported products and much more! If you want great bread I’d highly recommend this place... they are VERY business on weekends so be prepared to wait and be guided to a parking spot! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BAKERY!!

The food is good but the delivery is horrible. Not only did the driver drive onto my front lawn and get stuck. But he also continually ripped up my lawn even after I asked him to please stop and call a tow truck. He was extremely rude because I wouldn’t help him but it was beyond my help. He had no interest in making the situation right and told me he drove on my lawn to make his delivery faster. I then watched him light a cigarette and smoke it in a food delivery truck. Wow is this place crazy or what! I had to remind myself a couple of times that it was a grocery store, what with how busy it was in the middle of a work day. I was taken there for lunch, they have a great hot food section that has pizza slices and sandwiches, all of which looked delicious. They also have a great salad selection. Don't forget that they are a bakery first, and the bread is amazing! Enjoy!

Go here towards the end of the day it's less congested lots of parking but only limited selections or already sold out. Some items at the bakery section have reduced pricing close to closing time. Like their spinach phyllo, sausage roll, donuts, danish and bread. Everything fresh. They carry huge pomegranates for 2.99 with lots of reddish arils. Customer service great.

This place is technically a grocery store but it really shines at their hot table. Most of the hot table items are mediocre but they have the best fried chicken and wedge fries I have ever had in my life and I've been to Kentucky to try their fried chicken. It's cheap, good and filling if a little salty. You haven't had fried chicken until you've had monastery fried chicken.

One note though.....Sizes of the loaves of bread, burger and dog buns, etc. is going down though. Would rather pay a little bit extra and have the old correct size so buns can accommodate a burger or dog properly like they did in the past.

Good selection of prepared Italian food and specialty items. Don't like their bread. It may be baked on site but they seem to use the same dough for everything, just making different shapes to call it different names. The Italian bread might be great, but stay away from the rye.

ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS BAKERY. I make the drive from Milton twice a week to come and grab fresh bread and deli meats/cheeses. The prices are reasonable, their hot food section is delicious and the staff are always ready and eager to help! I was not a fan of their zeppole but I will be back to try their other desserts next time. Hopefully I'll be able to find other desserts and pastries that I enjoy.

A hidden gem-I don’t know why it took me this long to visit this bakery. Picked up some awesome desserts-mini eclairs and black and white cookies. So delish. Plus we got a loaf of cheese bread that was so fresh. Highly recommend.

Even one star is too high of a rating if you ask me. They REALLY should be receiving half a star. I'm honestly disappointed that they call themselves an "Italian bakery" when MOST of their bakery items are NOT baked in store, they are just "assembled" like the cannolis. They don't bake them there, they buy the shells. I looked at the girl stunned when she told me. They should just call themselves an average bakery and call it a day. There are way better places out there than here, especially with higher quality products with better customer service as well.

Great Bakery! Love the aroma of fresh bread every weekend morning. Sandwiches are pretty good (often soggy) but fresh and good value for the money. Staff are generally friendly and attentive. Love the lady (announcing to the crowded store) BBQ ribs for sale on weekend mornings. The parking is the only downfall as it's too small causing the use of grumpy staff to manage cars as they enter the lot. Drivers don't listen well so I understand their demeanor.

As a French native raised in south of France on the border of Italy I am appalled by this "Italian bakery". There is nothing Italian about this place. The bread is horrible, the flour used is questionable. This is not real bread, or a real bakery, this is a manufacturer. This entire place is questionable, how is fish cheaper than chicken? The four cheese pasta is only a sprinkle of cheddar. There is a lot of lies and dishonesty, I am filing a report as the place is packed with a facade of an "Italian bakery". They're disrespecting the entire neighbourhood, the Asian staff that look and act under paid, the Italian people and a real bakery. I feel ashamed for them and the other businesses that they have took over in this plaza. Disgusting business.

I placed an order online through their website because they had 454g bags of coffee on sale. When I received the order they were all 284g bags. I called to see what happened and was told "It wasn't a mistake, we only sell the small bags" so I double checked their store and both the pictures and descriptions all said 454g. No apology or refund for giving me something almost half the size of what was listed, just told me they'd update their website.

Ordered a cake on line got confirmation order was placed. When my son went to pick the order up it was no where to be found. No explanation given just to them to wait. When they finally got to the celebration the cake was so fresh it fell apart. So disappointed as it was my mothers 90th Birthday. I called and emailed to find out what happened, after 3 attempts someone called me back said they would look into it and find out what happened. To date no call back. I guess customer service is lacking here.

Staff never want to help. I have been here twice where I have had this same experience. Everything is such an inconvenience when you ask a question. I had this experience when I called to check on my cake order and when I went in to ask if they were making the apple crumble pie. They don’t care for the business I guess. Very abrupt. It's not bad but I don't see where all the positive reviews come from, the five star ones I mean. The hot table foods are mediocre at best, the pasta seems to come from elsewhere and I think some cakes too? With that said love the bakery itself and they make a delicious pizza sauce to use at home, some things are expensive and others very reasonably priced so it evens out.

This bakery has some good and interesting items. We've been coming here for over 15 years. Unfortunately they have turned from a small local business to a mid-sized establishment without the necessary infrastructure to run their business. They are pushing, ridiculously, for customers to place orders online. If you want to get their flyer prices, you must place your order online first. If you want to order catering, you have to do it online. They will not allow you to go into the store and pay the cashier - you have to pay with your credit card online. It is unreasonable for the owner to force customers to use the online system, where a credit card is required. Not everyone feels comfortable using their CC online, especially on a local bakery's website - sorry! Their business has grown, which is great, but they just don't have the infrastructure to support it. The response of the owner translates to arrogance in my view and I will be taking my business elsewhere, going forward.

This food store and bakery is a mainstay for Oakville. The bakery is the big draw and has great products ( breads, rolls, cakes. pastries etc .) Also the hot table has a good variety of lunch and dinner items for reasonable prices and I recommend the meat lasagna....soft noodle and excellent sauce. Grocery and produce is fresh and higher priced than conventional retailers. The one LARGE COMPLAINT I have is that after often lining up for entry, we then are subjected to another long line for the bakery. Often there are 20 people in line which extends across the back of the and around to the closed Expresso bar. Staffing in that dept. needs to be constantly monitored to speed service. In busy times there should be at least 5 people serving and running the bread slicers.. Another observation..the Filipino employees seem to have the labourious jobs and all of the more important positions are held by the Italians.

Best bakery in Oakville! Extremely nice people working there. They take pride in their food and service. The fresh pastries and bread made daily are so good and by far the best I’ve had at any bakery. The hot counter is one you will be happy you visited. Come hungry and come early! They get extremely busy around lunch time and for good reason. The price and value and quality of what you get is so worth it. Not only is their in store experience amazing. I always order from their catering menu for any get together I have. The prices and portions are very generous and they have a wide variety; also they deliver:-) Loyal customer for life!

Well, long story short. My visit was last Thanksgiving. It was also birthday time of my family. We heard from friends that they are best of the best!!! I called them first, and had a lovely conversation with a lady on the phone (I am guessing she was the owner or that sort). She referred to me to the order online. So that it would be convenient to pick the order on time. Therefore, I ordered three (3) cakes. All different style and taste. All pick-up times and date were day after each other. Picking the first two (2) cakes were without issues, however, size and price comparison were outrageous. It was too sweet that you can't taste the flavor and overpriced. Honestly, I could buy from any grocery store cake, which could be better. The third cake… Since it was already paid, although first two cakes were disappointment, we still proceeded with the third one since it is the favorite cake of the birthday celebrants. It was the first pandemic Thanksgiving. People lined up outside. Imagine start of the line was turning the corner. Anyways, after waiting 20 minutes outside, my wife managed to go inside to pick the cake. Kids and I were waiting outside in the car. Twenty (20) minutes after tired of waiting in the car, we decided go inside. She was still waiting with no explanation for a cake ordered week ago and paid in full ($57). Since, turns were arranged by ticket, she waited her turn and presented the online order number. Apparently, personnel disappeared for 20 minutes after getting the number, and did not make any explanation during the time. She pointed out the female (Caucasian) personnel to me, and decided to talk to her to see what is happening. We were late for the surprise party (and the birthday cake too). Note: The reason I mentioned “Caucasian” personnel, because there were other personnel, but they were nice and were trying to help us. But with our luck, the rude one was taking care of our order!!! Lady personnel was extremely rude and provided no explanation, at all (her manner and words were rude). Long story short, they did not make the cake and they did not have the respect to their customers to openly tell, too. They asked that if we wait another 20-30 minutes, therefore, they can prepare for the cake we ordered week ago. We said no. The lady personnel did not even offered money back, just standing there and staring us with a gesture and making comments like it was our mistake to confused them because we ordered cake from their bakery three days in a row!!! Shortly, implicating that "why are you even here", or "we don’t care your business" (we have enough business). Anyhow, we offered to get replacement cakes. Two (2) simple every day cake. It was still too sweet. Terrible experience. Rude personnel. Expensive and not good cakes. We were very disappointed (including family and friends). Absolutely we do not recommend them. Do not waste your time, money, and stress over them. Buy from somewhere else, somewhere you know.

We catered our daughter's 2nd birthday party from Monastery Bakery catering and it was absolutely delicious!! The portion sizes were extremely generous - we could have ordered half the amount we actually did. Therefore the prices are amazing. All our guests - including children - were amazed of the quality of food. They were very professional in their service, ordering online was quick and easy, packaging of foods was efficient and safe for transport and they were so helpful during pick-up. Overall we had an excellent experience and would recommend for anyone, even if it requires a bit of effort to pick-up or extra $$ for delivery.

Recently bought a tiramisu cake and it was a fake.no mascarpone,just whipped cream. They serve better tiramisu cakes at the local metro store and less expensive,and real ingredients including coffee and mascarpone. I try to come here when it's not the weekend (it's so busy that they have police directing parking lot traffic) or during lunch hours when there are a lot of people or students because I like to browse slowly and look at everything. There's so much to see! The selection for everything is amazing - the bakery, deli, and hot meals sections are high in selection and look delicious. And the bread section at the back is to die for - bread heaven! You can get donuts in this section too - my favorite are the raspberry filled ones and they are very often sold out. People are friendly and efficient. I always have a fun time shopping here!

Only issue was the online order system. We ordered about a week in advance for the Thanksgiving weekend. They gave a 1 hour window and ours was 5-6 on a Sunday...they close at 5. We didn't know until 4 and we live an hour away. When I got through on the phone I was told, jokingly, I better leave now. On the way in my wife called repeatedly trying to get someone to wait until I got there...not a single extension went through and no answer for 35 attempts (no exaggeration) When she finally got an answer the response was we should have known that they close at 5 on Sunday and to get here before that. Every attempt to explain their system is faulty went no where and all she wanted was someone to wait in case I didn't make it. Worse was that the order was hand written and whom ever wrote it should have caught the error and contacted us to make an earlier pickup time When I arrived my wife had just gotten off the phone...that alone should give an idea of how long it took to get through and how hurried I drove. I was assured they had many cakes and that I should not have worried about rushing to get one. That wasn't the point. I ordered a anniversary cake in advance with writing for a dinner on a long weekend, so if I didn't get it Sunday I would have nothing until Tuesday...too late The cake was great but was soured by the poor online interface and very lacking communication of the bakery. Definitely order from them but make sure you confirm times and dates

Love this place! It is nice and close to where I work so I often come for lunch. Their hot bar is awesome. They have a variety of items, some that are standards and others that rotate. I am a huge fan of their mac and cheese. They have a large variety of fresh baked breads and other bakery items. There dessert counter is full of treats you would expect to see at a specialty dessert place. They have a coffee and espresso bar. I have not bought many of there other grocery items as I am usually just there for lunch but the meat looks of very high quality and they have all kinds of specialty European products.

Bread is good but customer service is horrible. Placed an order online for pickup and made a mistake while ordering online. Explained to manager at customer service that this mistake could have been avoided if they would have allowed me to make order over phone. Manager was very rude and acted like she could care less. When I got home and checked my order I discovered that the buns that were packed under the bagels were squashed. Called store to let them know and was told by same manager that I must have done it on the way home because they were fine when I left. The buns on top were ok but the ones at the bottom of box were not. I don't expect much but a simple apology or any showing that she actually cared would have made the experience better.

I have been going to this bakery for years and the quality of their food has not changed one bit. I love buying my breads, cheeses, and hot meals here. You can really feel the authenticity in each thing you purchase. The prices for baked goods are excellent and they are always fresh. The only thing that I do not like is how busy the parking is. It is almost impossible to go on weekends because of how full the lots are. I think for how much they have grown over the years they need a larger location. None the less, I would highly recommend this bakery to anyone who loves freshly baked breads and pastries. Anytime I have guests I always receive the greatest compliments on anything bought from Monastery.

This is a great place, fresh bread, fresh produce, great pastries, and a great hot table. They even have a deal where you get two personal pizzas for 5 bucks. Also, if you want to "lazy cook" their pre marinated stuff is also great.

We have been long time customers but no longer. I ordered online for Saturday, May 8, delivery between 1-2pm, some which was hot food for lunch. By 2pm and no delivery, I called, no answer so I tried a couple of times. I finally left a message but nothing. By 2:30 I left a message and said they might as well cancel my order because it's obviously not coming. At 2:40, a van shows up, I asked what happened and he said my delivery order was missed so I asked why I didn't get a phone call. He said they are busy and this isn't his problem. The hot food had to warmed up, no one ever called to fix this or apologize. There are alot of great bakeries in Oakville that I will happily shop at because obviously customers service isn't that important to Monastery anymore.

Always have to visit this bakery when in Oakville. Breads, meats and especially the hot table are what you come here for. I drive 45-1hr to come here. Great variety of fine foods but come early for the best selections cuz the parking lot gets full really quick. Dont take my word for it come visit for yourself.

Monastery became a second kitchen to me and my family ever since we moved to Oakville. We have met the owner and his wife and even had the pleasure to know some history on how this hard working man worked his way up to build this empire. Since then, the quality of food, pricing, availability and variety of food including the membership...we can't complain, EXCEPT the customer service that we get from most if not all the workers at the hot-food section. The unreasonable attitude and the unacceptable character that the workers transpire to paying customers completely disappointed and dismayed us. What was surprising to us is the big expectation we have from these Asian servers. As someone with an Asian decent, it has always been customary to be modest, hospitable and humble when dealing with customers, and proudly we are known for these traits. These servers obviously have forgotten their roots. Regardless of how hectic a workload could be, anyone with respect for themselves should remain respectful of others. My family and I were deeply saddened at the fact that the quality of the items we buy from the bakery can not outweigh the disgust that we continue to feel from the consistently poor quality of service from these workers. We are seriously considering to find a "second kitchen" elsewhere...

This is one of the best places to find great, just-baked bread. The food pretty much speaks for itself and it attracts hundreds of people daily. This place is a gold mine. Some improvement on customer service is needed. Most of us appreciate being greeted with a smile and customers service is no different.

I have been going to Monastery bakery for over 20 years now and have seen it grown from a small shop to a monster grocery store. And over the years the service sadly has gone down hill. But for the past month I've been saddened to see it sink even lower. One would think with a name that has Bakery inside it, they would think to provide good service in the bread and baked goods department. With the Covid19 restrictions now you need to wait in line and have a staff member hand you your pieces of break rather than being able to pick them up with a set of tongs. This works if you have staff there to meet customer demand. Sadly the management at Monastery doesn't seem to get the concept. Rather they think it fine to have a line for the bread department snake around in front of the vegetable display (that I have yet to see anyone buy from), back around in front of the cakes. A line that doesn't seem to move, only get longer and longer. After standing for 20+ minutes you can finally get into the actual bread enclave. There is a single lady who clearly is stressed out and rather curt with everyone trying to stuff bread into bags as fast as she can. Now it is as much as staffing miss allocation issue as anything. While standing waiting for the 3 people before me to get served, I watched as three staff pushed a cart filled with more buns, obviously from the actual baking side, try and stuff more bread into an already overloaded metal rack. Great I get some nice fresh bread. Flattened and deformed from being forced into a space that didn't have room because of the bottleneck in customer service. It might seem as an obvious error, and I can't quite figure out why someone with even an ounce of common sense would not have told two of the bread cart people to maybe serve the customers that would have taken the fresh bread and allow the customers to buy it is beyond me. Then you get to the supervisors, management and the owner. I did think that maybe if I told they they could correct the problem. Rather than a smile and a friendly response, all I got was condemnation for complaining and a lame excuse that this is covid and they are doing all they can. Funny, but in Febuary, March, April and even in May when we were in full lockdown, I got far better service from them. It seems rather a far fetched excuse that now that we are allowing businesses to open up that they have worse service. Try a better bakery next time. Cobbs is close by at 3rd line and Dundas. Perhaps they want your business more to offer better service.

THIS PLACE WAS PACKED WITH PEOPLE BUYING FINE FOOD AND GROCERIES. SAW AN ARRAY OF COOKED FOOD, READY TO GO. WIDE ASSORTMENT OF PIZZA, SANDWICHES, HOT FOOD COMPLETE WITH POTATO AND FRESH VEGETABLES. THEIR APPLE FRITTER IS REALLY GOOD.

As a loyal customer, it pains me to write a bad review but I am disappointed and appalled with the service and negligence from Monastery. Following an online order, the driver backed into our garage resulting in a hit-and-run. This was evident from our home RING camera and eyewitness from neighbours who tried to stop the driver from fleeing the scene. Thank goodness my young kids were not out playing - who know what could have happened. Despite police and the insurance companies' involvement (the bakery owner and driver denying responsibility) we are left with a garage that is damaged (see pics), and shocked this could happen. This was extremely careless, dangerous and negligent. I can't believe a company like this would employ dangerous drivers and not take responsibility of the service it provides. I now have bad anxiety from this horrible experience and it is an ongoing process with no remorse and accountability from Monastery. I implore you not to bother with online orders (read the other bad experiences from others) or supporting a business that is irresponsible and reckless with no respect to their customers - disgusting behaviour. I'm still waiting to hear back from the owners since March. I will update this review once I get more information. UPDATE: 08/25 So everything is fixed now 2 months later and we are still waiting to see if we will get any deductible back and the fees to repair everything which was in total almost 10k. Our insurance contacted Monastery’s insurance (Intact Insurance) almost two weeks ago and still have not gotten even a reply back?!?!?!?!?!?! I will update once we get more movement on this matter.

Most pre-packaged products are a little pricey, but the hot food section is where this place stands out. There is usually a short wait, but it's worth it! I recommend the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich or the Potato Wedges. Updated my review. My last 3 visits, the hot food section was closed very early and well before dinner time or even closing. Got off work and head right here to grab dinner, only to find it cleaned out.

Not as good as it used to be. Ordered the Bacio cake for my son's birthday and were really looking forward to it. Last time we had it was in 2018. Now it just tastes like grocery store chocolate cake. Very unimpressed. Nothing special.

We have been coming here for years. They have the best selection of deli meats and baked goods. We enjoy many of the items from the hot food section. One of our favourites is the breakfast sandwich. This sandwich is excellent and is often sold out early. They are often sold out by 8 am when we get there. Please make more. We don't want to go elsewhere to get our breakfast sandwich.

One thing, and only one thing made me order from this place for my daughter's birthday and Mother's Day: more variety in cakes' flavors. On Tuesday May 4th, I placed an online order for 2 cakes: there is a note section, so I asked a couple of questions regarding one of the cakes' shape and icing, and added my contact info. My order was placed for pick up on Saturday May 8. I got no reply back to my questions, so on Friday May 7 I decided to call: The person who picked up the phone asked me for the order number, and then said, "OK, what is it that you want?" Obviously, I wanted AN ANSWER to my questions since I was picking up the cakes the next day! Then she replied, "Ah OK, you are calling because nobody called you back, right?" Yes, OF COURSE! Then she said, "Well, the baker is gone for the day (it was about 5:30 pm), and since you are picking up the cakes tomorrow, I don't think any changes can be made now. I will call you tomorrow morning and let you know". As you all can assume, I am still waiting for that call. Hold on guys, it doesn't end there, it gets worse. When I stopped by the next day to pick up the cakes, I was asked for the order number; I left it at home, my mistake. However, I gave all my contact info. to help the girl locate my order. Finally, I called home and got the number. It took us a good half and hour waiting, and I could see it was not only me waiting to get served. It was a MESS. My daughter's birthday cake was tasty, not bad at all, but really small. I ordered it for 12 people, and it wasn't even close to that. That is the reason why one of my questions was if I could have a squared cake (8x8): a copy of the order was taped to the cake box, with a big "NO" written in my question. The other question was about the icing, if I could have buttercream, instead of whipped cream: another big "NO" was written down, and the words "COMPANY STANDARD". I felt like it was like an insult to even SUGGEST another icing. The Mother's Day cake was a Profiterole Tower, so disappointing; one of our favorites back in our country of origin, this one was really average, not fresh at all, the creamy filling was not rich or creamy, and the whipped cream was absolutely greasy. Piece of advice for the baker, or whoever made the Profiterole Tower: get some lessons from a good Italian-Venezuelan baker, you will not regret it. Just when I went to pick up my order, I remembered being in this place some years ago; I was looking for a job, and went for a job interview. The person who interviewed me was so rude, told me that there was no lunch or break schedule, that the job was really hard, that I could forget vacations/holidays/weekends with my family, the guy was a real "motivator". I just said thank you and never came back of course, feeling really bad for his employees. Now, if this guy is still the manager/owner (I know his name, but no need to mention), what motivation can you expect from any employee? Would you be surprised of such miserable customer service? I am not, and definitely do not blame the employees. Such a shame, you have a great location, but lots to learn from places like Truscott Bakery and La Casa Dolce in Mississauga, with outstanding customer service and excellence standards. "How you treat people is the only true measure of your character..."

Television advertising certainly works! Lured us to visit your location and well worth the drive from Willowdale Ontario. On our way to Niagara-on-the Lake we decided to stop in to browse and ended up taking out lunch. Very impressed with the selection of fresh pastries, bread, fruits and vegetables, as well as cold cuts. Fairly busy on a Saturday but line movement well organized. Have to compliment the cooks for the hot table. Indulged in the mixed fried fish and shrimp dish and fried chicken. Excellent! Staff very welcoming and friendly and prices are in-line with quality! Will be back soon!

My favorite Italian grocery store, they have fine Italian food grocery products, produce, fresh cold cuts and cheese. The bakery is amazing and their pastries are the best in town. Their pecan coffee cake and canoes are a must have. They offer great selection of ready cooked food.
