Super quaint and trendy bakery and coffee shop located on the corner of Oak Bay and Monterey Ave. The coffee is good, but the cappuccino comes in just one size - so great to pop in for a quick catch-up, but oriented towards opening you laptop for an hour. The bakery is great! They offer classic and Italian specialties and everything is tasty! I wish they had more and easier accessible parking, but there are usually spots along Monterey, and it's only a quick walk to the bakery. A heads-up that the front entrance has stairs. A little gem in Oak Bay!

The food is impeccable and inspirational. Their soups are amazing. The decor is wonderful. Staff is accommodating. Seating in the cafe is limited, though, and we often share tabes with others. But that is part of the charm. Get their early if you want to have their pasta special.

Their sandwiches are pretty good! The soup was interesting too! Tried some of their pastries and one chocolate pastry and apricot leaf was really good! The mocha tart didn’t have much coffee taste, but it was good. Gonna try more of their stuff in the future!

I love this place but wow it needs a number system badly. It seems like pandemonium every time we come here. No real organization and the staff give different instructions to different people. I used to love Ottavio's until today, when I tried to return a package of Italian coffee. Ottavio's price: $29.95; a day later, same product on sale at London Drugs: $14.99. Manager said they couldn't match large-store prices and it was a food item (vacuum-packed and intact). While I like to support local establishments and expect to pay a premium for the privilege, this is over the top. Some sort of concession on the part of the manager could have made me feel better but that wasn't happening. I guess my purchase of $300 the day before wasn't worth keeping me as a customer.

The take home selection of meats, cheeses, oils, etc is excellent but the prepared food is disappointing. For example, I ordered a mini pizza and it was heated in a microwave until dry and solid as a plate. The cookies i tried were very dry and lacking freshness. Disappointing waste of money.

5 stars for outstanding service. I'm from Toronto and my mother lives a few doors down from Octavio. It was her birthday yesterday and I knew Ottavio was part of her daily ritual. I called and ask if it was possible to surprise my mother with a 'treat' and we agreed on a dozen cookies. I received an email from Mom today to tell me that not only was it a nice surprise to receive the cookies when she got there but the staff getting together to wish her a happy birthday made her feel extra special. Very nice experience. My first time being in Ottavio. We decided on a late lunch. Had the Espana and a London fog and shared a pacifica salad. My husband had a cold panini (forgot the kind he ordered) all was delicious and service was quick and very friendly. We took a few deserts home. Needless to say I am in love with the lavender shortbread cookies hope they are a regular as I will be back for more.

Ordered the baked pasta special, $12.00 and was expecting a baked pasta. Instead received a bowl of bland sloppy pasta soup. Tasted like an overly floury cream sauce with a couple bits of onion. Very, very bland and the portion was tiny. It's a shame to think that the business charges so much for so little and still won't pay their staff a living wage and relies on the customer to supplement their staffs wages with tips. Left feeling disappointed and hungry.

The Corn Chowder on the menu today was a tasteless clear broth with less than a dozen kernels of corn and undercooked chunks of potato topped with stale tortilla chips. The Deli /Bakery has a decent, albeit expensive, selection but the food service portion of Otavio is not worth stopping for.

Ottavio is the go-to delicatessen in Victoria. It is excellent for both deli products and cafe/patisserie. A delicious range of fresh meats and cheeses are on offer. Service is always friendly and prices are reasonable. There’s also a lovely patio out front to sit at and enjoy your purchases. A million miles better than Bull & Sons on Fort St, where I’ve been sold products that were not fresh and received very rude service. Ottavios is where it’s at!

Really 4 1/2 stars. One of the few places to find ricotta salatta in Victoria. Always leave with a few things I hadn’t intended to buy ????. Their breads are fantastic (go early) and all the varieties of olives, meats, cheese and specialty goodies to make your charcuterie platter sing! Service can be a bit chaotic, but Ottavio’s ever changing menu means there’s always something new to try and something for everyone! A great outdoor patio in warmer weather.

I'd have to say, even after growing up on the Danforth in Toronto and shopping at authentic Greek and Italian deli's, I was homesick and just a little impressed at the level of service and selection here. Wow. I got way more than I bargained for. Gotta love that staff. Just outstanding respect and courtesy, knowledge and FUN! It's out of my way, but I'll be back just to enjoy a great coffee and something from the bakery. I'll sit and think about what to cook that night with all the deli cheeses, antipasto, bread and meats. Bravo! Does anyone know if you can get spicy eggplant?
