I loved it for it's gluten-free food BUT I called before closing, asking for 2 pizzas. I knew they were closing in ten minutes so thought it nice to give them a heads up. They said they would turn on the oven since I was two minutes away. Once I arrived, they told me that they turned them off early. For no reason. The girl in glasses was very rude on the phone and in person. I wouldn't have come if they told me before hand. I was so disappointed as I love the food but I don't want to go somewhere where they act petty and don't do their job. I went next door and had an amazing gluten free snack there instead.

I placed an online order for my teen’s birthday and was not disappointed! I ordered 6 variety cupcakes, harvest bread, lemon curd, and a pumpkin spiced latte birthday cake. The cupcakes were delicious.. nice fluffy texture, beautiful presentation , and lovely whipped icing. The lemon curd is great if accompanied with a pastry based dessert. By far though, my personal favourite was the pumpkin spiced latte cake. Texture was fluffy and the undertones of cinnamon were so yummy. I had my order delivered and it came right on time. Thank you Origins! My teen loved having delicious gluten free dessert options!

Very friendly little bakery with considerate staff. Tried the Carrot, Date, & Orange Muffin — good except for the flavour of baking soda that wasn't well hidden. Their tea (Imperial Earl Grey) was roundly tasty. It's a cozy spot and the aroma of baked goods was too much to resist.

Being glute-free and dairy free, the Origin Bakery is one of my go-to places for buns and breads I can eat. Just the same, I do find a lot of lactose-based foods here which is a bummer. All-in-all, I love the bread for toast and the Vegan Chocolate Cake is to die for. One caveat - I have had much better bread for sandwiches - theirs tends to crumble and fall apart. Definitely not my favourite for sandwich bread; I wish they would work harder to improve their breads rather than stick with the status quo.

I called Origin Gluten Free Bakery long distance from Ottawa to order a birthday cake for my daughter who was studying out at UVic. They went out of there way to make it happen. This is excellent customer service which is what great business is all about. Super hidden bakery -- entirely gluten free. The chocolate chip cookies are extremely addictive. The other treats are of varying quality, it's a bit of a gamble whether they will be dry/crumbly or not (classic GF struggle). I don't like the bread but my roommate loves it, so try it out for yourself.

Origin Bakery is Victoria first (and only at this point in time), dedicated gluten-free bakery. Tara and Marion began baking and selling just over 3 years ago at farmers markets, and moved into their current storefront shortly after. Tara is a formally trained pastry chef who prior to opening Origin, worked in the kitchens of some of Victoria's finest dining establishments. They have a full line of breads, pastries, muffins, cakes, and will also do special occasion cakes. The facility is strictly maintained as a gluten-free space, so there is no risk of cross-contamination.

Weird dense bread but ok for gluten free .way too expensive. No slicer. At 9$ a loaf would be nice to have it sliced because when you try to slice it at home, the bread falls apart... Just stop ripping people off because you have ipad for tills to make the hipster juice in their pants, tapioca flour is not expensive, gluten free doesnt have to be for the upper class only. 6$ would be fair, sliced. Seriously... Other than that good work on the expension to Langford. Good luck.

We had a couple of baguettes and a some pastries and everything was super delicious and done with fresh ingredients and of course 100% gluten free! :)The staff was very friendly and eager to help with all my questions. I won't return, customer service is greatly lacking. Although I tried numerous times to order on line, days in advance (website does not work and was told by staff this is a common problem over the phone)... AND they don't take orders over the phone. No explanation for that... 'just our policy', so was told to come in to the store to make a birthday cake order... a 45 min drive away. Thought this was unusual but no problem... According to the staff, because I was 20 mins late for cut off on the order that I needed delivered or could pick up late Friday (I arrived at Wednesday at 10:45 and cut off is at 10:30 apparently). There is a no exception policy. Staff told me I would have to return on Friday and hope a cake would be available or buy some cupcakes and keep them in the fridge. Seems like there is a lot of 'Just our policy' stuff going on but little independent thought.

It seems to be a little variable lately. Tried a cinnamon bun for the first time today and it was incredibly disappointing. Last week my vega bread was super dry and now I'll have to try another to see if it can compare to the best commercial bread I can find. Would much rather the organic ingredients and supporting local! However I always enjoy the almond fudge and chocolate ginger chews and the counter staff are always very friendly. FOLLOW UP: the harvest loaf is delicious! Star Review: The Vega bread is back to delicious!! Just had to hang in there :)

The very BEST butter tarts I've ever had. We also got a Yule Log for virtual christmas parties this year (2020) and it's amazing as well. My wife loved her cranberry cupcake, my MIL loved their chocolate tart. The apple pie is so good, I actually preferred it with NO ice cream! But yeah, the butter tarts are amazing and I think about how good they are regularly (and have to restrain going to the bakery on a daily basis!)

I like the bread, just not the rigamarole to get it. Living up Island it has been incredibly difficult to be able to organise a way that Origins feels acceptable to accept my money in exchange for bread. I phoned in to see if they had stock in their Westshore location, was told that a delivery was coming in at 11ish. I asked for some bread to be put aside, the answer was no. I was encouraged to come in to the store and pre order. I went into the store, later, prepared to pay for 4 loaves of bread and pick up the next day. I was told that was not an option.After the really nice young woman (Winnie) made two phone calls to her senior manager and then the general manager, a "one time only" exception was made for me. Yay, lol! I paid my $40 and left. The next days delivery was late so I could not pick the loaves up myself so my wife went in to pick them up but was subject to a lecture about why they would not do this again. I find it crazy that Origins cannot realize that sales and customer satisfaction are incredibly important these days and my willingness (or stupidity) to pay $40 for 4 loaves of bread justifies them to give me a lecture and grief. I desperately want to support local but where do I draw the line and just buy one of the numerous and growing Gluten Free brands across the street at Thriftys? Be better, Origins, be better.

This is one of the first gluten free bakeries in town. Perhaps THE first. I go here to get those wonderful pastries that we can't have anymore, lol. Last visit I got almond tort squares (okay probably not real name), 2 carrot cake cupcakes, 1 loaf of white sourdough, and 2 loaves of day old sandwich bread. The bread is great, light and easy to cut. I'll be back.

A great option for people with Celiac as this is purely gluten-free. They do open at 7:30am but don't go until 10:30 as that's when they actually put the baked goods out. You would think if you're open for business at 7:30 in the morning you would have your product ready to purchase at that time.

As someone who is 6 years into their gluten free journey, I'm always excited when finding a gluten free bakery. I have been to Origins in person, without ordering ahead, and was lucky enough to try their baguettes (delicious, even if they are smaller than "regular" (ie wheat) baguettes) and a ganache cupcake (amazingly delicious, highly recommend). This week, I was trying to order through their website. I was very excited that I could order ahead, especially as I was planning on visiting Victoria 3 days later and would be able to pick up my order while I was down there (I live about an hours drive away, so going to Victoria is not an every week or even every month occurrence). I was unable to put through my order on the website, because it was giving me an error message that my postal code didn't match on my billing address (it did, I even tried the postal code with and without a space between). I tried everything suggested on their website FAQ and emailed them as well, asking if there was any way to fix this or if I was able to order another way. I was disappointed to get an email back saying that they require 2 days notice for what I was wanting to order and hope I get it sorted out. The FAQ on their website states that the only way to order is in person and through their site, they won't take orders over the phone or over email. While I understand that having multiple ways to order only leads to orders getting lost and not made, unhappy customers, frazzled staff, etc I'm really heartbroken that I have no way to get my Origin fix anymore. I hope that this can get resolved soon, because as a "far away" customer the only alternative to the website being in person doesn't really work.

Super rude about it too as I tried to explain that I have a medical exemption. I just wanted to get some baked goods, guess they think being rude is an appropriate answer.

Very unreasonable to not warm up the food before offering. The gluten-free bread is dryer in nature anyway, serving it cold makes it harder to eat. This is the only Origin bakery location so far which does not warm the food before serving, so unreasonable!

They saved me in a jam. My gf's birthday. Y'all can see where this is going. So I phoned and inquired about cakes bright and early the day of the event. They don't usually have them available so immediately (or that was my understanding) but I got lucky. Even with adding a personalized message on top I was able to pick the lovely cake up within half an hour. I was so chuffed with how it turned out but not in the least how they went above and beyond any modern definition of customer service. Thanks for helping to save my bacon and for the delicious cake as well. It was a hit!

If you have bought gluten free bread before you know the price can be steep, but Origin's products are fairly priced so you save to burning holes, the one in your pocket and the one in your pants!

I enjoyed their cupcakes for years - albeit extremely expensive. I’ve never left a negative review anywhere until now. In this case, I have to. I made the mistake of purchasing a discounted loaf of what was said to be “sightly” overcooked bread. When I took it home it was literally so hard and burnt on the bottom, I couldn’t cut it. It was inedible. The loaf was $12. The staff refused to compensate and were very rude.

My daughter was not able to get that when she was little, and so glad that children can get it now. Note though, that there is only a limited number of dairy-free treats. If I could put a separate rating for the food and service I would rate the food 5/5 and service 2/5 (being generous). The employee that helped us acted like it was a nuisance that we had questions about the products and she would rather text than serve customers. As someone from out of town I am not familiar with this company and was a bit disappointed that the customer service was so poor. I was looking into shipping/delivery to my house once I left Victoria but would rather support a business that treats their customers better.

Mostly decent products; however, I bought cookies from here a couple weeks ago and they were rancid. I told them this the next time I came in, and they said I should have saved the cookies and then they could have compensated me. I was pretty surprised, as you can’t expect someone to keep rancid cookies for two weeks (not to mention I’ve spent lots of money here before and was coming in every couple of weeks for bread)... I’ve found a commercial gluten free bread that’s almost as good as their fresh bread, so I won’t be coming back. Their customer service left a bad taste in my mouth.

Been going to this Bakery now for 3 years. I have noticed many difference during that time. The owners seem to have been paying closer attention to customer service. I could feel free to let them know if I was unsatisfied for whatever reason and the owners were quick to correct it. When I first started going there the staff and service was not up to par. However the baked goods were always great. Today the staff is extremely warm and friendly. Happy faces and much better service. Great place.

I have Noticed in the last 6 months that the muffins and the scones have been getting really dry, bland, mealy and quite often over baked making them unedible.

I am a home baker and take pride in my bread. I recently have developed a slight gluten intolerance, so I stopped by Origins and tried a baguette sandwich and a butter tart - both were excellent. I found the service friendly and helpful. I will certainly return here to try other baked goods to give me something to aim for at home. My sister has Celiac, and I will recommend that she try it when she is in town.

They have baked goods I can actually eat! Origin has an amazing variety of breads and other baked goods that are free of common allergens like wheat, corn, dairy, and eggs. Their hamburger buns in particular are excellent, they hold together much better than most gluten-free buns.

We read about the Origin Bakery online and it sounded wonderful. Their website makes it look fabulous. We were excited to visit and try some goodies. The staff were very unfriendly and rude. We had to say hello twice before we were acknowledged and we couldn't get a smile from anyone. We bought some cupcakes to take home for dessert after dinner and they were very dry with average flavor. We ordered a cake for pickup in a couple of days which was good, but not great. We expect a bakery to be a happy place to visit with lovely desserts. This isn't that place, and we won't be back. There are wonderful bakeries in Victoria and I don't understand the other high ratings on this place at all.

Unfortunately I had a terrible customer service situation with this bakery. Beware when purchasing items that are boxed up, as the way they're packaged is decieving. What I thought was a box of fun pineapple sugar cookies(tea cookies), was really a box a shortbread cookies with one pineapple sugar cookie showing through the window of the box. When I discovered this in the parking lot of the bakery, I went back to the bakery right away, (no more than 2 minutes later) and the clerk basically told me they're was nothing she could do. I explained that I wasn't looking for a refund, I would happily purchase something different, the problem was that my celiac son doesn't like shortbread....and had I known that the tea biscuit box was filled with shortbread, I would haven't bought them. She continued to tell me there was nothing she could do, basically I was stuck with the cookies. I am surprised that a local business, that is well supported throughout the community has such poor customer service policies in place. In my opinion it's short-sighted and its service like this that makes me not want to support you....but when you have a child with celiac disease, I feel I'm left between a rock and hard place. This experience has left a poor taste in my mouth.

Not impressed, made a special trip with a shopping list for an out of town friend. All items were chosen from the web site before I drove there. I tried to call the order in but only got a recording. The staff member I dealt with was snotty at best, only 1 of four items were available, one is only available online ??? what I have to order it online and then pick up somewhere else ?? Another item only available Saturdays, the other sold out....too bad none of this was mentioned on the web site before I wasted half a day. The two breads I got were expensive and I will never ever return

me and my friend came for a visit to Victoria from Calgary and we decided to try out this bakery because I have a gluten allergy. I have to give 2 stars because the service needs a lot of improvement. the bread loaf were a little on the dry side but the muffins and the treats were really good.

My wife bought a scone here that was seriously good. The next week, I bought a scone that was seriously one of the worst tasting baked things I've ever put in my mouth. It was mealy and bitter, and I couldn't finish it. Maybe somebody screwed up the recipe that day, but they really should try this stuff before they sell it.

WoW I mean the cinnamon raisins bread feel so good in the mouth, literaly feels like french toast... also intresting to mix ginger cookie with chocolate, otherwise the mix is a new good experience, I also tried the cupcake carrots as the ginger cookie I was well satisfy with the sugar low dosage wich does not corrumpt the whole taste of a bite... I don't know muxh of the Gluten Free universe but your bread smell so good and the texture do not cut the apple in half by being gluten free, nice smell!!)

The sourdough could, and used to be, more sour but it's still quite good. And the baguettes! Lovely chew impossible to find in gluten free is found in these delicious loaves. Yum!
