Best bulk section of naturals and organic grains, etc. in Halifax that I've found! A great selection of bulk organic spices as well - although many of them are from far off places, when I think they could be sourced more locally. I've had good experiences shopping here since the change in management. Staff have all been friendly and helpful to me when i have any questions to ask. They do well to get local produce, though selection is pretty weak in the produce department. The only negative I would say is that often products are out of stock. Give it a try.

The range of products for an organic market is awesome and often there will be suppliers in the store so you can find out even more about the product and make a knowledgeable choice. it's worth it to get there just to see a selection greater than two little shelves like most grocery stores ; ^)

I was a customer of this store in their various incarnations and locations for around 23 years. Have spent thousands of dollars there over the years. Have found that it's become unfriendly since it has changed hands, and generally not as good a store. But I still shopped and spent a fair bit of money there. The other day I went to buy samosas for our family – not a huge purchase but still 5 samosas and chutney runs somewhere in the vicinity of $25. Ran across the street to get a coffee to guy and when i got back ~ 5 minutes later there was a boot on my car. $132 to get it removed. Management does not care one iota based on the fact that they have not deigned to respond to my email, and washed their hands of any responsibility or concern in store. The people they have running their parking lot are essentially highwaymen. If you'd think an organic/health food/hippie/vegetarian/vegan market such as this would be a feel-good place to shop, think again. I will never give them my business again, nor will my wife or parents. I can't speak for other family and friends beyond that, but they have heard the story and expressed their utter disgust. Shame on you, Organic Earth.

This use to be a friendly knowledgeable place to go but it's changed a lot with the new owners. I use to buy quite a bit but now I mostly buy online and only go for the things I can't get there. Has a stuck up atmosphere that mostly comes from the owner, very disappointing. If it improves I'll change my rating.

Food and cost: The food tasted great, but my god, $10 for about 200-250mls worth of chowder and nearly $20 for a bowl of said chowder. I paid for a cup of chowder, a draft beer, a cocktail and a bowl of mac and cheese and it was $50. So... Tasty, but unaffordable. Entertainment and atmosphere: Fantastic live music and the inside of the bar is great (pretty well brand new building, lots of outdoor patio seating too. Service: Service was very good and they offered and or provided blankets to those on the patios. Overall: Great experience and wonderful time. But not very affordable... Which... Being that they are downtown... Is to be expected as nearly all the bars downtown charge far too much anyway.

It also has a nice bulk section with flour, nuts, etc. Their smoothies are very good value. Tons of parking. Admittedly, I don't do all my shopping here since I do eat poultry and fish (which they do have but frozen) but when I'm looking for high quality ingredients or alternatives to meat, I go here. Halifax needs more stores like this.

My go-to for everything healthy. Organic Earth is expensive for some products but if you're shopping for a special healthy vegan dinner this is the place to source anything not available at the supermarket. They have so many fun and wonderful products and the bulk section cannot be beat. I get my nutritional yeast here and tempeh and various soy products. Also, corn cakes and samosas! Yum! Friendly and helpful staff.

I have revised my review a year after writing it. My first review of Organic Earth was very low but I have been back a few times and things seem to be getting better. The staff are friendly and selection is pretty good with reasonable prices.

Would have given it more stars, Originally went and purchased a product that came with a gift with purchase, they where out of the gift with purchase so the clerk at the time (he was great his name was Darryl) said if I bring the receipt back I could get the gift when it was in stock. He wrote on my receipt, I came back to the store 4 months later and he was no longer working there. Another clerk who wasn't properly trained in customer service or perhaps was having an unpleasant day was rude and said that Darryl lied and then recorrected her self when I said "He Lied!" she then said that he was miss informed and we do not offer gift with purchases after the product is sold and there is nothing she could do for me. Another employee pulled me aside she was lovely and said that I should call the manager Tracy to speak with her. She was a newer employee so kind and thoughtful I forgot her name. I never did call Tracy, I won't bother. I'm from Vancouver and its a shame Halifax doesn't have more health food stores! I don't blame the customer service rep for her rude mediocre service, I would have to say it's the store owners responsibility to train the service providers and management with excellent customer service, people that want to be there, not counting the hours to go home and actually like helping people.

Very expensive specialty grocery store located on the busy Quinpool road. While very expensive, it's the only place in the city to get certain specialty vegan goods. So, it's a required stop if you want some fancy frozen foods to impress your vegan friends at a party!

I like to go over lunch to get a smoothie from their smoothie bar and pick up some ready made vegan food from the fridge. They also have tons of supplements and stuff I didn't even know existed. If you get a loyalty points card you get discounts but you have to mention it to the cashier every time since they don't ask.

Their prices are a little questionable sometimes, and they tend to favor vegans (eg. they have vegan jerky, but no hormone-free, free range, good quality meat jerky). Overpriced, even by organic market standards, chronically unstocked or understocked, mañana attitude of staff. Poor selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. Since Planet Organic was taken over by the new owners, they have drastically reduced the space allotted for food and greatly increased the shelf space allotted to supplements, which are priced 20-30% higher than other supplement stores in Greater Halifax. They also stock a lot of products that are manufactured by Nestle and other rapacious corporations. A rip-off all 'round.

I have been shopping here since I moved to Halifax for school, and let me tell you I have never had such an unpleasant and frustrating experience as I had today. There is a sign when you walk in that say they only allow 15 customers in the store, but I didn’t notice anyone counting and it was extremely busy. The store, while large, is very congested as they have a lot of product with small isles. It felt like there were 30 people in the store because it is so congested; I think that they should make the maximum capacity smaller while the pandemic is going on. Not to mention, the staff did not enforce social distancing at all. I had people cutting me off and getting very close to me, 2 of them being staff members. There are no arrows on the ground meaning you can walk wherever you want in any direction, causing extreme confusion. There are stickers on the floor for the people in line, but unfortunately this goes into an isle and if someone needs something out of that isle they are out of luck until they have to checkout. I bought only two of the many things i went in there for because I was going to have panic attack. I will not be going again during the pandemic, or after, even if they do have a large selection of organic produce. I love supporting local businesses in the HRM but I will not be going back here.

The best selection of healthy and vegan/local foods in the city. Expensive but depending on what you're looking for, they are usually the only place you can find it. On top of the retail component, they also have a small cafe where you can buy made-in-house smoothies and some pastries. They also have a fridge with grab & go lunches like Vegan 'Egg' Wraps and other sandwiches/salads. I don't ever find their staff super friendly or helpful and they do tend to run out of items pretty quickly if you're not there at the right time. Bonus, I love how their shopping carts have coffee holders!

Organic Earth Market offers everything you might need that is Organic. It's a unique grocery store in that they don't serve standard grocery items. Everything is organic, literally. They serve not only grocery, but also personal needs as well--soap, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, etc. Towards the front entrance is a smoothie/juicing bar that also provides coffee. They have an ample parking lot.

To my knowledge, the only store in the Halifax/Dartmouth area which is a "complete" health food store: plenty of splendid organic fruits and vegetables, organic products of all kinds, from tea to soy products. They have an excellent selection of herbs, bulk products, and they even sell polished semi-precious stones, colorful minerals and crystals at reasonable prices! Lots of great selection. I'm vegan and their paradis vegetarian frozen imitation chicken is the best out of all the imitation chicken products I've ever tried (a bit pricey but worth it)! Also they have a really well stocked bulk food section so you can buy just the right amount of obscure ingredients that are often called for in vegan recipes. The staff seem friendly and the place is clean and well kept. I'd say it's a good place to grocery shop with children because they have these adorable mini shopping carts that kids can push around for fun!

absolute debacle of a place to work at. my second shift there was a protest outside protesting workers rights. they fired the head organizer of the union the day before the vote. they fired me because I asked to leave a Half an hour early because of a family issue. when I said I didn't think I was required to tell him in detail about the family issue he got aggressive and told me to give him back his shirt and get out of there. please do NOT support this store. buy from somewhere else.

Many unusual food items: big and good bulk section, various vegan things (I'm not vegan so I can't competently recommend them, but there are many), delicious eating-grade (not baker's) 100% chocolate, tastiest milk in town, and afaict this is the only place in Nova Scotia where you can buy actual cream—everywhere else only carries cream/carrageenan/polysorbate/etc mixers.

I didn't have the highest opionion of the store to begin with: steep prices and not overly helpful staff. But I used to regularly buy the bottled milk they have because there's only few places in Halifax that carry it. When we had a couple of bottles from two different batches that turned sour well before the expiry date, I went to the store to return them. The owner made a remark suggesting that this was my fault and didn't offer to replace them. He asked a staff person to take my phone # and said they would talk to the company that delivers the milk and let me know. Of course I never heard anything back. Haven't shopped there since.

Today I have received a worst customer service experience by a hippie looking girl who works there. When I finished paying my bill I saw that groceries are not placed in a plastic bag. I stumbled and asked her "Don't you pack the groceries here?". At the moment she was drinking water which is already unacceptable when customer is still there, but she responded "What you cannot pack it yourself?" I was shocked and regret that I did not speak with the manager right away but gave them a call when got to my car. I doubt this girl will be fired or be shown where her place is. I am a business owner and if my employee treated customer like that they would be fired in a second or at least given very harsh talk. UNACCEPTABLE! If you want to be treated like you worth nothing go to this store. Overpay for their products but also pack your bags, and be told by hippie girl " What You cannot pack it yourself?". She should be fired.

Very disappointed in Organic Earth Market. Recently I purchased a Tonica Scoby from this store. After following the instructions to the letter, I discarded the packaging. After a week, I found heavy mold growing on Scoby. Being rotten, I tossed it in the trash. I took my receipt to OEM in hopes of getting a new Scoby. The first question I was asked was. "Do you have the product?" Well no. I didn't feel that I needed to bring in a rotten Scoby. Well, we can't do anything without a product. Well, it's in the trash! Sorry, too bad. Well I've got the receipt that shows I paid! Sorry, too bad. At that point the weekend manager got very curt and ugly with me. Now I have been a long time customer at OEM. And I can't believe I got treated this way. So you saved 25.00 bucks. Congrats, you just lost hundreds. Poor customer service. I'll take my business elsewhere

For vegans like myself, this place offers a wonderful selection of products that Superstore doesn't carry. Cheezly and Sheese make the best vegan cheese, and you won't find it at Superstore. Vegan marshmallows, another win for OEM, as well as Field Roast vegan grain meats (cooking with red wine makes them sublime)... chili flavoured hot chocolate... not to mention all the local Acadian Soy products, and the best vegan ice cream selections as well. I'm disappointed in Superstore consistently carrying the same flavours, mainly vanilla, chocolate, Neapolitan, and the odd flavour out (boring!). OEM has peanut butter swirl, mocha, mint, etc (the good stuff) available not only in coconut ice cream but rice and soy as well. The selection of seaweeds is second to none, Daiya cheddar mac & cheese is another wonderful treat. A very nice selection of Kombucha drinks was nice to see, I tried some new flavours I never knew existed as Superstore only carries a few. I was able to find vegan Halloween and Xmas treats at this store as well, which I much prefer than having to order online and wait 14 days for it to arrive from USA, as I've done before. I can get the dark, flavourful #3 maple syrup here, but can't at Superstore. The pricing is a bit on the high end, which makes this store not my 'everyday' store, however I enjoy shopping here when I want to treat myself with the finest selection of vegan foods, and hard-to-find items. I'm also very impressed with the smoothie bar, which has very nice baked goods. I had banana bread and chocolate cookies from there which were delicious. I've never had a problem with the staff, and there has always been parking available whenever I've visited. The only suggestions I have is I'd like to see them carry Tartex spreads again, I couldn't find it last time, and I'd also like to see level 2 charging stations (or CHADEMO if you want to go all-out) for electric cars, even if the charging is at cost and not complimentary. The electricity in Nova Scotia is produced from dirty coal but can be insured with Bullfrog for a clean footprint. It's nice to see bike-friendly parking as well and the outdoor picnic table, though Halifax streets are not very bike-friendly and fostering EV charging stations is increasingly an important and realistic aspect of being a responsible, green company. 5 Stars! Thank you OEM!

Hippy haven. They do sell the mango soft licorice as well as the green apple soft licorice if you like that. This place does have quite a lot of cool and unique organic foods. Sometimes they even put on group events at the store for all things related to dietary supplements and healthy eating.

This store is what I would call a organic Haven for a lot of people including vegetarians. Having a large variety of foods and drinks you don't need to be a vegan to enjoy some of the selection that they have. I found the workers very friendly and if they didn't have what I was looking for on their shelves they would go back and take a look for the item I was looking for. They also gave me a time of when they expected more in, this warrants a phone call prior to going back to see if they have it in. Now I did find the price of items here medium to high.

The old Planet Organic that we loved is DEAD. This new store is awful....the attitude of the owners and staff is arrogant, uncaring and uneducated. Everyone used to have a nutrition background, but these new folks are just pushy sales people under the pretense of knowledge. The kitchen food has gone completely to pot. The shelves used to be stocked with yummy things, now the shelves are empty except for some watery soup with no place to heat it. The owners promise to bring favourite products back while the staff brag about how the young fellow alienates suppliers who dont suit him. Very sad that such a wonderful store got in the hands of such poor managers who never learned that the CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT! I spent $ 10,000 a year there for medical office and for my family. Great little market. While pricier, as expected from an organic food store the focus on sustainably produced products is welcome. While I'm not vegan I do appreciate the wide range of vegan products and alternatives for those of us who do have an ethical sensibility about or foods. Try the vegan peanut butter balls. Paradise! And they have two great red palm oils that are both sustainably produced and orangutan friendly.

I bought a loaf of gluten-free bread at the market and within 2 days it was moldy (it was 3 days before the best before date) I was out of town so I called the store to let them know I wanted to return the bread but it would be a couple days before I could get there. I let them know I didn't have the receipt anymore, gave them my name and spoke to a nice lady who said just to come in and return the bread for a new loaf. When I drove to the store I explained the situation to the cahier and she said sorry, if you don't have your receipt there's nothing we can do. I explained that I had previously called and was told it was ok, and that I had a special trip from Herring Cove to bring the bread back . She again said "too bad that's not our policy." I couldn't believe the absolute lack of concern and customer service displayed by this woman. Do stores actually expect customers to absorb the loss for inferior products THEY sell? Finally, I asked for the manager and he exchanged the bread. When I explained that I didn't appreciate the way I had been treated by the cashier he had absolutely no concern and did not offer an apology. Next time I'll be going to Supernatural Foods.

They also purchased face shields and masks for all their staff.Installed Plexiglas glass. I am a former employee. The staff asked for all the PPE and it was provided...I am confused of people saying it wasn't.

Im not vegan, pro organic, gluten free, nor do i believe in the magical power of crystals. This store is pretty great though. If superstore or sobeys sells what you want, buy it there, it'll be much cheaper. But if they dont have what you want, you come here. Make your own cheese kits, water buffalo milk, pill capsules, salves, ointments, weird chips, weird flours, exciting freezer oddments and curiosities, bulk spices, coffees, teas, dried goldenberries, bee pollen, avocado plushies, tiger balm, fresh pakoras, magic crystals... This store is a destination. I really like it.
