You will see the opinions of real people like you who purchased the services of German Bakery Sachsen Cafe & Restaurant (Bakery) around Nova Scotia area (Canada).
Right now the firm receives a rating of 4 stars over 5 and the score has been calculated on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is quite positive, and it's based on a large number of scores, so we may be pretty sure that the evaluation is very faithful. If many people have bothered to evaluate when they are pleased with the service, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to place feddbacks when they are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Bakery is classified in the category of Restaurant.
We ordered 2 pieces of chease cake and 2 one inch slices of apple strudel and a incredbly hot cup of coffee the chease cake was dry and didn't have much of a sweet taste to it the German sounding laydy (assuming one of the ownes) that served us was friendly and talkative but seemed to get more quiet and disconede once we didn't order anthing other then the sweets once we got to the counter we were shocked at the 42.67 bill
(Translated) We were very satisfied. The cappuccino and the pieces were delicious. We were served very friendly. Here there is free space and you put yourself what an American or Canadians does not understand. (Original) Wie waren sehr zufrieden. Der Cappucino und die Stückchen waren sehr lecker.Wir wurden sehr freundlich bedient. Hier herrscht freie Platzwahl und man setzt sich selber was ein Amerikaner oder Canadier nicht versteht.
Love this place, food is so good!
Incredibly unfriendly and rude to my family from the moment we walked in. We didn't even stay to order anything. We'd never seen behaviour like this from serving staff.
The schnitzel sandwich cannot be passed up.
Refused to wear masks and were very rude about it. They claim it's too much so they only wear masks when the restaurant is busy.
Feels like you are in Germany really good food and good people, we ate breakfast there. Their western breakfast sandwich is amazing the mix of flavour give you a smile still hours later
Excellent food great atmosphere fair pricing good staff... Live the pretzels
Excellent food, only drawback is that it's popular on weekends when they're short staffed because they run a stall in Halifax at one of the Farmers markets. Well worth a visit but be patient and prepared to wait.
Service
Baked goods to die for !!
exceptionally friendly staff and wonderful ginger molasses cookies too:)
Excellent food, very tasty.
Not accommodating. This review is about the service only. We knew as soon as we started to order, that we should have got up and walked out. When asked if we could have decaf, the waitress gruffly told us that she didn't like to make a fresh brew for only one cup. Really? Also, one of us had an egg allergy and asked if the fish could be fried without egg and we practically had to beg her to go and ask the chef. She made no attempt to accommodate our request and said to just order something else. After insisting firmly, we got our fish. We will never patronize that place again. I would be embarrassed to send tourists there in fear that they would get the wrong impression of an area that is truly so filled with wonderful and friendly service people.
Great lunch
(Translated) Bakery as in Germany but then price level is not Germany .... I would even say that it is worse than Switzerland! So overpriced, fairly average value for money. Otherwise nothing to say about the welcome, friendly and considerate.
Great sweets, great service!
They have a great assortment of baked goods. The servers are kind too
Really tasty food!
Very tasty
A German gem in Canada, this bakery serves german delights daily. The baked goods are not to be missed. How often do you see gooseberry pastries outside Germany? The pretzels are the real deal and the cookies and cakes are to die for. Make time for this superior stop!
Id have to say that this is my favourite restaurant in Annapolis Royal. The food and the bakery is stellar with such a nice staff! And we always get a pretzel on Saturday mornings T the market from them. I highly recommend.
Try the schnitzel. It really is made fresh and it's delicious!
The sandwiches here!! The sandwiches!!!
Food was fantastic, service was very friendly. The pastries were delicious.
Amazing Pastries and coffee
Very good bratwurst!
Best Capichino I've had since I was in Italy 2 years ago. The food was amazing and the bakery items we purchased were fantastic, especially the butter cookies. The family running the place were very friendly.
Real food and real people. All around a fantastic, quaint little spot.
Friendly service and great food.
Amazing schnitzel! Great family owned bakery and restaurant. We will be back. Tomorrow strudel for breakfast. ????
Excellent service! We sat on the patio and had the breakfast sandwiches and schnitzel! Highly recommended!
Delicious food and sweets. Wonderful friendly staff. Highly recommend!
Friendly staff. Great true German food and bakery.
Oh my god!!!!!! Amazing!!! Friendly!!!! Schnitzel is amazing and fresh and oh my god the BUTTER cookies!!!!! ????????????????????
Sandwiches and sweets are oh so delicious!
Very delicious, can't wait to go back! Thank you for the wonderful lunch and treats ????
Very friendly staff and good food!
Reminded me of Koln. Delicious bratwurst and sauerkraut. The cheesy spatzle was amazing. I'd go back just for that. Lots of variety at the bakery too.
Stop every time I visit Annapolis Royal. I've always had a sweet tooth and it always leaves happy. Wonderful staff and beautifully prepared food. Talented bakers passionately doing what they do best! Make a point to stop in! Beer is available. Gluten free options for those who need it or those who just eat gluten free because it's trendy. All meals are freshly prepared. The bread is amazing. Wait staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Very good food and very efficient service
Server was very nice, Food Not good!
(Translated) Super delicious and very friendly staff, also happy to have a nice chat with your guests. Keep it up ???????? (Original) Super lecker und sehr freundliches Personal, auch gern mal für einen netten Plausch mit ihren Gästen bereit. Macht weiter so ????????
They have a warm, inviting atmosphere and delicious fresh food! It's authentic German cuisine, made in house. Sandwiches are served on freshly baked bread and rolls. They have many choices of sandwiches, dinners, and snacks. We didn't have to wait very long for our food considering they were a bit busy when we arrived. I had the schnitzel sandwich, the schnitzel was the perfect size for the roll and the Kaiser roll tasted very fresh. It was a nice amount of food for lunch. The only drawback is that the prices are pretty high for what you get. Lunches are $10-$15 for a sandwich with no sides. Larger meals range from $15-$25. But if you're in the area, I would recommend you check it out!
If you love baked good stop here. Your taste buds will thank you.
(Translated) Friendly (Original) Sympathique
Good food. However bit pricey!
Amazing tradition german food from friendly people
Very friendly with bread and pastrys that are worth it.
Always delicious home cooked meals and pastries. Very friendly staff.
If you like German Cuisine this is the spot! If you havent tried it! This is the spot. The food was very delicious and the bakery is wow!
Authentic German restaurant and bakery. The white chocolate cookies were amazing!
In visiting this place the first thing I took note of is no prices anywhere in the store. Red flag. Moving forward we ordered some bread and sweets. It came to 55 dollars and 75 cents. I got her to write a hand written detailed receipt which the clerk who is likely the owner had to write by request only. She charged really high prices. I paid 8 dollars for a left over slice of Apple strudel and 4.50 for a cookie with jam. Besides the outrageous prices the food was dry and I am not referring to the gluten free bread we bought that is always dry all of it including the bread that was not gluten free is dry old and as for price the gingerbread house in Halifax south end charges 4.25 for a slice of apple strudel and I could go on but roughly German owned gingerbread house Halifax charges half the prices this place changes. I had traveled to France and Italy and shopped for pastry’s in some of the most tourist dense areas and never ever was charged this high for prices. This shop is clearly taking advantage of people in such a greedy way. I had never seen anything like it before. She does it with a smile stay away as your going to get taken here. I would expect her prices to be on par with Michael Winga owner of the gingerbread house halifax. I was also his student in cooking school back in the 90's and worked as a cook for many years so I know a food scam when I see one. This place stinks of it.
Other
Went with my girlfriend who is (also) from Saxony and got yelled at for using the bathroom and only buying one loaf of bread. She was also asked a lot of personal questions so she felt right at home with this mix of anger and invasiveness.
Be careful with this place, I've been told on good account that the pastry prices are based on what the owner thinks you can afford. This is discriminatory, and probably not even legal. We ended up paying $40 for some pastries and bread, just insane prices. At least the strudel was good!
(Translated) The service is very bad, the girl who attends is very unfriendly. In addition the prices are nowhere. Too expensive. I would never come back (Original) El servicio es muy malo, la chica que atiende es muy poco amigable. Además los precios no están en ningún lado. Demasiado caro. No regresaría nunca
I waited half an hour for their special pizza. The crust was burned around the edges and hard. I should have sent it back but didn't want to wait longer for lunch. I ate the middle of the pizza. My husband showed the waitress the crust. She replied "She ate it! It was made this morning! No one else complained about the pizza! She was dismissive and said "Have a nice day!"
Tiny little space filled with amazing treats....best gluten free bread I've tasted
Delicious food and lovely service. We have been here many times and always look forward to the next visit
Great place. Friendly people..Excellent food and service
We were looking for vegetarian options. The veg sandwich and veg pizza were were very average yet expensive. The squash soup was great. The dessert was ok. Overall, i would rate it as an average yet pricey bakery.
Other than the service which, while being excellent, was a little slow, this was a great experience. Excellent sandwiches on obviously homemade bread, and the bakery goods are outstanding!
Awesome Preztles ????
We stopped in here for some quick pick me up pastries as we strolled the streets of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia last year we spent 3 months touring the lovely Country of Canada! This place rocks! Unbelievable sweets, cakes, cookies, you name it, they all look so delicious. We picked up ours and when in town do stop by here. You'll be glad you did. Kindly click the like button if this review or my photos are useful.
We purchased a variety of baked goods. Some were very good, others less so.
An amazing bakery and delicious food and wonderful service
Had 2 very small pieces of apple strudel to take out ,charged$16.00.No prices posted on any of the baked goods ,so buyer beware.
Really good food
Amazing..... We stop in to have breakfast and to get some treats for the road. Our breakfast was great the fried potatoes where tasty. My omelet was delicious. We had our pastries with a cup of coffee. Loved how flakey they where and the perfect amount of sweetness. Again AMAZING wish you where closer to us.
Homemade everything!
Great homemade sweets that are unusual and delightful to eat!!
Great German pastries, and very friendly owners. The dining room is a bit sterile though :(
Meal type
Goulash soup is fantastic, top service!
We stopped for a snack and got a pretzel and a bag of shortbread-style cookies. The pretzel was yummy but the cookies seemed to hardly have any flavour and the texture was just okay. I wouldn't buy them again. It also seemed overpriced... $8.50 for a small bag of cookies and $4.50 for one pretzel? They should post their prices more clearly.
This place is exquisite. I cannot understand what the low-rating reviews are going on about. The pastries are made daily. You can see the family making these throughout the day. The cuisine is superb. The service is offered by the family and it’s fun and spunky. This is a rare gem operated by a hardworking German family. This establishment is truly worth ten stars. Head and shoulders above most dining experiences in North America.
The grilled chicken sandwich was delicious! The chicken seemed to be pulled and the sauce with it was so delicious. The potatoes had a good spice on them and it was the perfect combo. Great environment and would recommend.
Good potato pancakes and excellent goulash soup.
Lots of great looking pastries, prices not listed. Ordered 3 baked goods... $16.00. Would not take visa for such a "small order". In summary great pastries, but a heavy price.
Very good German pastries. A little expensive. Friendly staff.
What an amazing, mouth-watering, delicious experience this was! It was the first time I had ever been there, my boyfriend had been before and said as we started on our vacation, he wanted to take me there for lunch! We were greeted by whom I believe was the owner, she was pleasant, funny and welcoming! We sat outside and ordered beer and wine and our food. I felt so fancy sitting on a patio, breeze blowing, ordering a glass of wine with my love, on a Tuesday afternoon! I never really get to do those kind if things! I ordered the paprika schnitzel with sauerkraut and potatoes and my boyfriend had the gulash with spatzel...omg! Amazing! Authentic, flavourful, and fresh! We then had a delicious dessert of some sort of sour cherry and raspberry danish which we devoured before I could even snap a picture. They were amazeballs! We then proceeded to head out with an assortment of cookies for our trip! Which...all were a delicious flavor adventure! We will be back again and again! Every mouth and belly deserves to taste the food and experience the atmosphere that this little gem is offering!
Top quality baked good. The short bread is so buttery and soft, yet crisp. The fruit is so fresh. Staff is delightful, helpful and fun.
good service and authentic German food
Nice German hospitality in NS! Great Weiner schnitzel
The best schnitzel and baked goods anywhere! They are super friendly there and treat you like family.
Very friendly staff, and the pastries were delicious. Definitely a must if you're in Annapolis Royal.
Non-existent service, rude staff.
1 good blueberry pastry, one mediocre pie, two substandard coffees and a dry bread. Came to $29. Can't recommend.
(Translated) Very rude and gruff woman (owner?), Prices are apparently made at will, cash without receipt! Definitely not recommended! I have never been treated so unfriendly! But I believe that person does not care about any negative comments! The next tourists are coming anyway! Not to compare with a bakery in Germany!
Amazing breakfast, salami strongly recommend. The waitress is nice as well.
Wonter hours and menu but still
We decided to take my Mom (visiting from Germany) to the bakery as a treat. Big mistake! Firstly, it was very expensive... there are no prices on the baked goods; our loaf of bread and sliver of apple strudel came to $12.00! Secondly was the attitude of the owner... she was rude, condescending and abrupt. She didn't allow us to pay by Visa, ranting that the fees were too high, and our purchase was under $20.00. She suggested however, if we pay $1.00 extra, she would accept our card... is that even legal? When we did pay in cash, there was no receipt. Needless to say, we will not be back.
Excellent German food and pastries. Fantastic spot and service.
Great place with delicious and authentic food
Friendly owner, good lunch and AMAZING pastries! Wonderful treat our whole family enjoyed while visiting from the US.
Fantastic and unique food (both baking and restaurant) good portion sizes for what looks like expensive prices, and overall good experience. Staff were very friendly, but quite slow as only one server was on for lunch. However, I was on vacation and wasn't bothered by it, just something to be aware of for others. I highly recommend the goulash, grilled chicken sandwich, and chocolate coconut pastry. I will be back!
Some of the worse service I have ever had. Overpriced as well.
(Translated) ROTTY waitress service should change profession (Original) service POURRI serveuse devrait changer de metier
Bought a few items from the bakery and they’re delicious! Something different for a change.
Best sandwich I had in a while. We had the German sausage and the schnitzel sandwich. Got a couple cookies to go. It's a must try.
Hugely overpriced. If you like hard German buns this is your place!
Loved it! Nice meal and good, cold beer on the patio.
Nice people and tasty pastry.
Didn't quite live up to the hype. The schnitzel with mushrooms was pretty good. The goulash was just ok. I'm granting them a bonus star for pretty good pastries, which we took home with us for a late night dessert.
Great meals and decadent desserts.
Loved it great schnitzel! Apple strudel was delicious.
Awful pretzels, tasted greasy and were drastically overpriced.
BEWARE! After getting ripped off buying a few small pastries for $32 I found out from a knowledgeable and respected resident of Annapolis Royal that the prices are intentionally missing from the bakery. They make up the prices on the spot, presumably charging more for wealthy looking customers! This is almost certainly illegal. While the strudel was tasty the turnover was stale and tasteless. The bread was boring didn't seem very "German". The attitude of the owner was abrupt and condescending. This is a classic tourist trap and should be avoided.
Gluten free? Got it. Great pastries? Got them, too.
Slow service, terrible prices and none of the bake goods have prices listed. We spent 30 dollars and left hungry. 5 dollars for a mediocre pretzel, at least at the movie theatre they taste good. Also the cookies are 5 bucks a piece!!!!? Do not eat here!
This is our 3rd time at the restaurant. The first time last year; when we walked in the place had a lovely aroma: The service was great and the food was delicious. When we ordered we ordered our dessert too and the waitress found this to be quite assuming haha... we bought 6 cookies for on the road and they were scrumptious. The second time, the service and food was still wonderful and she remembered us! I highly recommend this restaurant!
Very rude so I left
Great food and service
Great place for a Gluten free sandwich and you can buy some Gluten free baked goods before you leave. It is a must stop for me when I am in the area. Friendly service.
Fantastic authentic Food , family staff ,
Delicious bratwurst.
Food was awesome but they really need one extra waitperson.
Great food, lovely service, nice patio
Pastries were good, but poppyseed bun was very dry. Quite expensive, and a little disappointing, as we arrived not long after opening, and were expecting fresh pastries... but when we opened our bag after leaving, we found they were quite cold. We assumed they had been in a freezer overnight and hadn't fully thawed yet.
Good food BUT be sure to get the cost of anything you order that does not have a published price, especially the pasteries, i suspect they vary significantly
We went there following a somewhat positive reviews and craving for German food, however, we are very disappointed. The food quality is very low, the Schnitzel is swimming in oil, the potato salad is more sauce than potatoes and green salad is dull. Will never go there again.
This is a 3.5 rating. Authentic German cafeteria food including schnitzels, bratwurst, Pilsner. Friendly service.
Wonderful food, great service. Have been for breakfast and lunch and both meals were great. Bakery items also good too.
Had the most delicious squash soup here. Amazing and very friendly
This bakery is UBER expensive!! We bought four baked goods and two coffees. and our cost rung up at the cash register was $31.65... This was a total blind-side as there were no prices posted, and one doesn't expect to pay over $5 per cookie, turnover or single cup of coffee! I wish I had read one of the many reviews about this rip-off before we visited the bakery.
Delicious food and they make you feel at home.
Fantastic food, great people!
Outstanding food and excellent service!!! It's a family-run bakery with authentic German pastries and meals. The shnitzel was fantastic and I had a superb lebkuhen. Will definitely return to the place to try more of the menu.
Great pastries
We are currently eating here as I type. Everyone is so pleasant and friendly as well as the food being amazing. Worth the price. We live 2 hours away, but will return again.
Loved the rhubarb cream and blueberry cream fresh pastries! Both of the ladies workijg here are friendly and fun to talk to. Be sure to order your coffee with a shot of espresso. So good!
Go to this place everytime we go anywhere near Annapolis Royal. So so good.
Great food and service
Food was ok
Excellent food. The people were very friendly and the German food was home made.
Squash soup to die for
Loved the lentil soup!
Couldn't believe we paid $27 for 3 pieces of strudel. The woman who waited on us said, "Well, what do you expect"? Not that price!!!
They didn't have any prices for the pastries, which turned out to be both expensive and not fresh. The service could use some work as well...
Love this place the staff are great and the food and beverage are not going to disappoint.
Food is pricey, staff was not exactly charming.
Great food,
3 pastries and a coffee. $28.18. She then asked that I use debit to save her credit card charges. I have never paid that in my life!! My fault for not asking prices but none of the pastries had prices displayed.
Service was great, food was delicious, I felt portions were a tad small for the price.
Excellant food and treats. Very friendly.
Amazing baked goods!
(Translated) average (Original) Durchschnitt
Amazing food, beautiful restaurant and very hospitable waitress! Just the smell of the baking as you walk in the door entices you to stay! Choosing which pastry to enjoy is the hard part. In the end we enjoyed cafes and a treat or two. Wonderful!
They make amazing danishes and bread. I buy from them every time I go here and they are always warm and friendly. It is a little pricey, but worth it for the quality and quantity that you get.
Nice friendly, and real German food
Stopped by for lunch and had a lovely soup and the service was great . Super friendly . Great pastries and bread as well :)
So many delicious sammiches!!!!!!!
Server was really rude to my family and I while being kind to other customers. We left almost immediately. Would never recommend.
Worst welcoming ever experienced. Went on a quiet day (one table was occupied...) and apparently 8 people was too much and stressful for them to accomodate. Hope that the food isn't as salty and dry as the staff!
Awesome food, great service, amazing dessert options.
Excellent food and super friendly service. Described a drink I used to get as a child in Germany and the server knew exactly what I wanted.
Food was good but seemed pricey
Excellent food, traditional German meals & baked goods.
Best pastries in the area! You can have a full meal or just take a delicious dessert at the take out counter. A must in Annapolis.
Maybe it was because we weren't dressed right, in leather from being out on the bike, got horrible service while watching the same server provide excellent service to the table beside us. Disappointed as we had heard good things about the place
Terrible greeter, walked in with my wife and the person standing there made zero effort to acknowledge us. We actually had to say "ahhh we are here for dining." We left soon after she awkwardly said "seat yourself." Seems almost like they looked down on is because we had sporty type clothing on.
I've only tried the bakery side but definitely recommend it. Unique German baked goods.
Very friendly atmosphere....food is good but a bit expensive
I went with a group of 7 and we all loved it here. The staff was welcoming and friendly with excellent customer service. The high light was definitely the baked good. All so fresh and delicious!
The cappuccino and the turnover were excellent, but 29$ for two cappuccinos and three turnover is over the top - even for Swiss visitors!
Excellent food and service. We arrived later on in the evening and they were willing to serve us. Many of the other establishments were closed.
No service on the patio....went inside to ask for help . Wanted to start with a beverage. Was told that the liquor license demanded we buy a cookie or a pretzel. Incredibly rude woman. Wont go back
Food was excellent Service was fast and very friendly????
Great food, gluten free options, clean friendly environment. Bakery has amazing bread. I always leave with something.
I love this restaurant. I always have a sandwich and soup. After you can enjoy a treat at the bakery. Service is very slow though so do not go there if you are in a rush. It may not be fast food but I think it is worth the wait for a quality meal.
We where there on sunday to pick up deserts read some of bad reviews if you looking for fast food please go to a fast food place, the deserts where wonderful eat lots on way home the lady that made them was wonderful person and yes I have been all over the world those who complained about the prices should go to Tim's for donuts.
Great food & great atmosphere,
Food was ok. Did not meet the hype. Service was lacking.
Tasty pastries but WAY overpriced. A cheese danish for $7.5 is over the top.
Amazing !
Great Pretzels.
High cost, average food, great service.
Nice patio across from the fort. We were needing a light snack so my wife requested a piece of apple strudel. When she went to pay the price was almost $12. The taste was just ok, certainly not worth that amount. Nice friendly staff.
Arrogant service and expensive. Also, baking goods get 2 stars at most and are heavily Americanized. However, to be fair, I can't speak about the restaurant's food. That could be good who knows... but I'll never find out. I'm not returning!
Please update hours posted, said they were open Sunday until 6:45 on web site, drove a long way to enjoy to find they were closing at 6.
Love their sandwiches
Probably one of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time. Amazingly fresh "home cooked" meals.
Stepped in to get small meal and was virtually kicked out. The woman at the entrance was thoroughly impolite, disappeared halfway through us trying to negotiate getting a table, and then, upon returning, completely ignored us. We decoded it would be best to leave but I will.certainly not be returning due to this terrible service before we had even sat down! From looking at menu, I would also say that the food is overpriced for some average dishes and would not recommend this establishment, even if it has a more polite host/hostess.
Tasty baked goods. Big patio
Delicious, authentic German goodies. Very good service too.
Best pastries we've eaten ages! Strudel pastry was perfectly seasoned and crunchy and flakey. Been driving by this place with the intention to stop anytime we're in the area, it was well worth it.
Very rude and unfriedly owner.Typical German behaviour!
Delicious! Great atmosphere and service!
Pastries are great, but sandwiches were made with old bread, too much mayo and one slice of ham. At 10$, go to the Independent grocery instead.
Excellent lobster sandwich, en terrasse ! Really good bread and fresh soup, thanks!
Very tasty and authentic, shockingly pricy, sehr tauer!
(Translated) We only had a coffee and a pastry, but it was very good and very pleasant. (Original) Nous n'avons pris qu'un café et une pâtisserie, mais ça a été très bon et très agréable.
Highly recommend for anyone that enjoys fine pastries.
Great strudel and ginger cookies
Take out
Two hungry cyclists had high expectations of this bakery but were sadly disappointed. The pastries were not marked with prices, and the woman serving charged us $17 for 4 of them. When we questioned the price, she was rude: "If I say it is $17, it is $17!" She also over-charged us for a loaf of bread that turned out to be old and dry. Better to go to the excellent Arch&Po down the road.
Food was awesome, staff were awesome. The waitress was run off her feet and still had a smile. Will go back.
Very nice selection of pastries and breads. Had the squash soup. Delicious!
Very friendly owners, well maintained restaurant, and delicious food! Who could ask for anything more?
Great schnitzel sandwiches but prices for pastries were a bit high
Tasty treats from an authentic German family
Tasty Pastry. Clean efficient and fun. Mother Daughter operation.
Slowest service in northern hemisphere
Great pastries - a sure place to visit if you are in Anapolis Royal
ok servive
Rude, condescending and arrogant staff, when we made a remark to the store manager about the attitude of the waitress towards me, a verbal fight was started by the same waitress with my spouse. I never been so disrespected in my whole adult life... Stay away form that place unless you want to be treated like a second class citizen if not worst. Absolutely horrible customer experience... No wonder nobody was in the restaurant at breakfast time... I do not usually post negative review... The attidude of the staff there is just plain appaling and unacceptable. Maybe in the late 1930's it was ok to treat people like that. But in today's day its not! Zero star if I could
The pastry had little to no apples in it and didn't even offer to heat it up and besides that it's over priced I really do not see how this place can put German in front of it as if it was in Germany they would probably be closed down just my opinion
This place is the best with very friendly service. It always feels like visiting family whenever we stop by for some currywurst and a pretzel, of course accompanied by a German beer or two! Not to mention all of the amazing pastries and desserts, including this wonderful chocolate birthday cake made on very short notice.
This review is based on a visit shortly before the pandemic. I admit things might have changed in time between our trip and now. But I have a feeling that nothing has changed since our visit. Being from the US, times have made it more difficult to plan trips and such.So I'm glad we had this trip when we did. The German Bakery was a wonderful surprise. We stopped in and really enjoyed everything about our visit. Great food and nice people. What could be better. It had the perfect small town battery feel. Nature, history and small town life is what I truly enjoy. This bakery, and the town itself has it. In my opinion the town and especially the German Bakery is well worth a visit. I plan to visit Annapolis Royal again soon when things get back to normal. You can bet the bakery will be a stop for me.
This was is so good that no piece of food that we bought made it onto a picture. As a Dutch person living here now for close than 20 years, I do miss the European breads and pastries and this store/restaurant was just what the do tor ordered. We picked up some pastries at the great farmers market (biggest outdoor market of Nova Scotia) and later some more at the store. Do not skip this place when you are here (or at the farmers market in Halifax).
Good food. We tried schnitzel and haddock filet here for lunch weren't disappointed.
The Goulash / Spatzen was excellent... as was the Erdinger dark!
It was a rainy day, but warm and cosy inside. The pastry was generous and tasty. Nice atmosphere and friendly service.
(Translated) I have to say I was completely satisfied. The Schnitzel what I had was the tastiest thing I have eaten the last few days. Then I took with me incredibly delicious homemade apple strudel and pig ears. All deserve 5 stars in all (Original) Ich muss sagen ich bin voll zufrieden gewesen. Das Schnitzel was ich hatte war das leckerste was ich die letzten Tage gegessen habe. Danach habe ich mir noch unglaublich leckeren selbstgemachten Apfelstrudel und Schweineohren mitgenommen. Allen in allem 5 Sterne zurecht verdient
Our new go to bakery. Yum yum and yum, best pretzels I have had in a long time.
The food was good but very pricey for what you got. Service wasn't great.
Fantastic pastries
Excellent traditional German food and very nice service. The apple strudel probably the best one I had outside of Europe OZ
Great schnitzel sandwich! Fantastic service!
I see they were putting the business for sale a while back. I am German and found the bread horrible. I would rather buy my bread from the grocery store then the stale, hard stuff they are passing off as food.
The food was great but the service was terrible. Way under staffed.
Food was great! We were going to get our food to go because we had our dogs, and they suggested that our dogs sit with us on the patio, so thoughtful. We also picked up some pastries!
Very friendly and with super tasty schnitzel and goulash!
I fell into this charming restaurant/baker by accident. Fortunately I was early for lunch, it was mid week and the service was fine and the food was outstanding. I ordered a squash soup that you could smell from the road and a chicken sandwich to die for. Both of these rated 5 stars. I purchased some pastries on the way out and found them delicious. They do not have enough staff on for most people (this North American for sure) and I can see how people would get upset having to wait. As far as cost, I was on vacation, I didn't care that much. I'd go back in a heart beat.
Very expensive. Sad because no prices displayed. $3.00 for one cookie!
Insanely expensive, and nothing was fresh. $6.50+ per pastry and they're definitely not made with butter. Tourist trap and complete rip off. People who say it's amazing have clearly never had authentic German pastries before.
