Very good.
Just Loved it, Amazing!
Clam chowder is nice. Will come back.
friendly service which was fast. food tasted great. double ply toilet paper in the washroom was a huge bonus. they even filled up my water bottle for free. great stop for lunch. they said the kitchen doesn't open until 11:30am, but they have baked goods if you get hungry early
The fish burger was awesome!
Ripoff joint in the middle of nowhere.
Didn't have any food left! Too many tourists! Lol
Overpriced. Food made my sister sick
The seafood chowder was quite good - a nice stop along the Cabot Trail. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very eclectic, but it was nice sitting out on the porch. The wait time for the food was very long - but the waitress apologized upon delivery and said it wasn't fully cooked yet when we ordered.
Did quick stop here for coffee and snacks while traveling between Ingonish and Cheticamp. The coffee is good and we love the Cinnamon bun.
Excellent lunch. Gluten free offerings and excellent burgers. Plus the bakery goods are super. Don't miss this spot.
What a great spot! Great food and a huge menu!
Badly needs to serve breakfast. Only place in the area seemingly open in the morning. Food we did get was good and friendly staff.
Great place! The food is delicious ????
Really enjoyed the food and service was great
We ordered some local craft beer, local wine, dessert, beef burger, fried potatoes and quesadilla and everything were much better than the big restaurants in Toronto. What a gem!
Excellent food and service! Loved the Asian noodles ????
Authentic, local
Quaint little place with a memorable, kitschy decor which somehow doesn't seem cluttered. Their fruit smoothie was incredibly tasty, and their little oatcake sandwiches with peanut butter filling and chocolate coating are a tasty treat based on a local favourite. The staff were lovely and helpful.
Good food. I thought it was on the expensive side for what we ate
Cool place. Seems like everything is homemade and healthy
The fish tacos were not tacos. They tasted weird and were completely burned.
My husband and I had such a delicious meal here yesterday, that we came back this evening. Crab cakes, scallops, creative veggie sides, local beer, and friendly service are hallmarks of this place loved and recommended by locals! We will be back next time we are in the area!
Super tasty bakery items and soup. Open 12-4 for off season. Highly recommend!
Great meals and amazing naked goods. Try the fish burger and turnip hash on the lunch menu!
Highly recommend stopping here for a bite to eat if you’re passing by. Excellent home cooked meals. The breakfast was great, and the service was very good as well.
Horrible meal, didnt even eat it. Made us pay for a meal which was sub standard. Manager (mother) was rude and very unprofessional along with one member of staff They're fish and chips is pathetic. Went to Rusty Anchor, spent same amount and had a real fish and chips. Fantastic food there.
(Translated) The food is very delicious. Local wines are good too. (Original) 음식이 매우 맛있어요. 로컬 와인도 좋고.
Amazing. Nuff said
The food wasn't too bad. It was a nice rest stop while driving the Cabot Trail. The service was very bad, however. It took forever for one of the front register staff members to get us a glass of water (over 15 minutes) while they just stood around literally doing nothing. We had to remind them multiple times what we ordered and keep asking for the rest of our items. Other staff were busy working, but this one person was just slacking off. We ended up pulling aside one of the busy employees to actually get us the items we were waiting on while the other employee just stood there staring off into space.
Cool hipster bistro. Great food and drip coffee. They sadly don't use great beans or have calibrated the grind for their espresso machine.
Fresh home food in Cape Breton. What a treat! Perfect if you like fresh garden and cooked vegetables. I loved the crab cakes.
Delicious breakfast and awesome service. Coffee refilled without even asking!
Nice quaint and very rustic spot to stop along the Cabot trail for lunch. Service was great, food was average.
Lovely little bakery/bistro. Food was great. Loved the salad with blueberry vinegrette and the Mac and cheese and strawberry milkshake!
Delicious local food, not the cheapest but absolutely worth the price if travelling on a budget. Full of locals ao that tells you the quality. Good service as well.
Nice quaint place decorated with everything you can think of. I had the soup of the day (corn chowder) and home made baked beans. Both were wonderful. The staff was great and there was an adequate selecting of food and bakery to try but I just stopped for a small lunch.
Good food and healthy options, lots of selection of baked goods, vibrant local musician. Was overwhelmed at lunch time for the small staff. No TP in either bathroom.
Amazing little place. Nice style. Amazing food. Very good service!
Cute place bakery/bistro. Decor is a mishmash of items. Food was lovely. Had the halibut and jambalaya, which was delicious. The beer is pricey at $10 a pop. Would come here again. Given there isn’t many options in the area, was happy with how this turned out.
Stopped for a coffee this morning after leaving the local campground. Coffee was delicious, however one problem. It was cold, not ice cold, but as if it was sitting for a couple hours. Very strange since we were there at 9am when they opened. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one that drove for a bit before figuring it out. I will be back someday to try one of the coffees hot :)
Delicious fresh food. End of season means a few items off the menu, but the bakery is great. Nice and quiet.
Great vibe, good food and local beers. We came a couple of months ago and tried the chowder and the fish burger. We liked it so much that we came back during the Celtics colors and were lucky enough to end up in an impromptu kitchen party. This was amazing, thank you Marina! PS: try their cookies!
This place is so cute! We went in and were greeted with friendly staff and sat inside. The chef was amazing and the food was soooo good. We used the bathroom as well and it was clean and decorated just like the restaurant. Love this place! Highly reccomend :)
Worst service EVER! Don't go there unless you wanna lose 2 hours waiting for your food. Waitress never refilled our glasses of water. She also never came to tell us that there was a problem with our food in the kitchen, we actually had to go and ask her why it was taking so long. People arrived after us and had time to leave the restaurant before we even got our orders. Only giving 1 star because I can't give less.
Rustic.
This is a cute little restaurant on Cabot trail. The staff are professional, the food was good but over priced for the portions you get. I ordered chowder and it came in a cup with a small biscuit for $10. Other restaurants in the area charge $6 for cup and $10 for a big bowl.
So delicious with local foods. I had to take photos before I finish these burgers.
Lovely place with lovely food and lovely service
To much time waiting for service, rude service
We love visiting Danena' s every summer. Great selection of baked treats made on site, fantastic cinnamon rolls! The fish burger is delicious! The place is decorated with a charming mix of antiques, which gives it such a cozy feel. The zip line is set up at the same location so after zipping across the river you can enjoy a nice lunch!
Great food and awesome service right next to the ziplining place so very convenient, but a little pricey.
Love the interior, great people, I'm a big fan. Oh, and huge bonus for me, small, simple menu. There's choice but not too much.
We stopped here on a trip around the cabot trail last year. The food was really good but the best part was the milk shake. They also had amazing baked goods we couldn't pass up.
Quirky little bakery with amazing goodies and coffee. A must go.
Great food, service was ok
Pleasantly surprised. Stopped in looking for a washroom and ended up getting the mac and cheese and a noodle bowl. Both were great. Staff was friendly and attentive.
Great atmosphere and delicious food.
Made a pit stop here for lunch. Both indoor and outdoor had this cute old rustic atmosphere. We had the seafood chowder and a daily soup (tomato). I'm generally a big fan of seafood chowders and they were definitely on the better side. The biscuits that they came with were pleasant as well. They were a bit expensive but overall very pleasant experience. Would come back again for the chowder for sure!
I stopped here on a recent bicycling trip along the Cabot Trail. Perfect place to stop, take a breather and fill up on great grub. Staff was very friendly. Coffee and treats were delicious! Prices were reasonable too.
Oyster bar. Raspberry point oysters. Nuff said.
Ok this place doesn't look like much. Food is made fresh from a small menu. It takes some time to get to you but it's good.
We ate here after trying unsuccessfully to find anything in the area that was open. The sign said WiFi - there was no WiFi. The menu said all day breakfast - it was an old menu. They were out of chicken. The service was ok and the food was good. There were 2 bugs in the sugar! We ate here as a last resort and it should only be your last resort too.
Hidden gem in Cape Breton! Shared the fish burger + fish tacos and both blew us away! Super fresh and super tasty!
The crab cakes, jambalaya, and pasta is fantastic here!
(Translated) They closed but didn’t update their business hours. I hope they can update them in time. Don’t let the guests come to the sky one after another, everyone in the mountain is very hungry???? (Original) 他们关门了但是却没有更新营业时间,希望能及时更新,别让客人一波又一波过来扑空,山里面大家都很饿????
(Translated) Cozy and delicious food! Burger was good (Original) Gemütlich und leckeres Essen! Burger war gut
Cookie was rock hard and the coffee was horrible!!!! Service was slow even though I was the only one in there.
(Translated) Typical place of the region and pleasant welcome. (Original) Endroit typique de la région et accueil agréable.
Great food homemade. Little expensive for portion given. Will want baked goods
This is the only place that we could find whi served breakfast in the area. Although a bit expansive, you will not be deceived; very good breakfast and nice size portions. We had the 2 eggs breakfast serve with choice of meat (ham was amazing), patatoes, fruits and toast. Good coffee and good service.
Amazing place and soups @@
Quick service, quaint atmosphere. Great biscuits. And the crab cakes are to die for!
OMG so good! Hubby's pork tenderloin was amazing. Chicken and bacon linguini with rosé sauce fantastic. And to top it off blueberry cinnamon trifle. Wow! Service with a smile.
Open when others were closed, and served quick and decent sea food
Great place to stop along your journey. Very homey and authentic, and staff are down to earth. The food isn’t going to win any Michelin stars, but it’s good. Oysters were amazing.
Loved the decor!
Everything you need after a long drive is to be welcomed by friendly people and the food well prepared and good variety. We hope they do well as they work hard to please all tastes.
One of the more interesting menus I saw in the area. We stopped for lunch and had the burger and chicken sandwich (with gravy). The burger meat was great, but I didn’t love the relish they added to the bun. Self-serve coffee and water (which may explain why so many people complained about the slow service ????). Baked goods looked great - I only tried the mincemeat pie though.
Fabulous coffee and baked goods, funky vibes and a lovely deck for alfresco dining morning or evening.
Wonderful seafood jumbolya! Good beer, and a nice cozy atmosphere!
Good food there, although the portion size needs some change.
Love the sweets
awesome fishburgers!!! just awesome! was another stop on my trip with the zella guys
Back again - 3 years later and Danena's has gotten better. Highly recommended. Terrific seating. Great atmosphere and the decor is just folksy enough. Great John Denver soundtrack. Delicious date square. Fabulous chowder and crab cakes. This place is actually awesome - just quaint enough. Authentic food served with love.
I really don't understand the lower star reviews, and I'm glad my family ignored them. There is one wonderful server and cook. It is delicious, fresh food, which naturally isn't "fast food" paced. We ate 5 meals which were prepared and consumed within an hour. As for the portion sizes, these were more than accommodating. The crab cakes (3 good sized patties) are perfect with plenty of meat in them and fresh dill. Fresh, local produce. The special of the day was fantastic as well - stout stew! This was the best meal we've had in Cape Breton, or even in NS since we arrived a week ago. Happy, full family.
The seafood chowder with biscuit hit the spot beautifully. Delicious bars and ginger cookies!
(Translated) Excellent cuisine. The lobster pasta dish is a treat. The one with the extra mussels and the beef in beer sauce, a killer! We feasted! Thanks again. The place and the people are very nice. We do not speak French. (Original) Excellente cuisine . Le plat de homard aux pâtes est un régal. Celui aux moules extra et le boeuf en sauce à la bière, une tuerie! On s'est régalé! Merci encore. Le lieu et les personnes sont tres sympas. On n y parle pas francais.
Food was delicious and service fast and friendly.
I ordered the seafood chowder which was to be accompanied by a buttermilk biscuit. When the food arrived, it was a ridiculously small portion of chowder with a slice of cheap white bread. There was only white fish in the chowder, no seafoods and it was quite watery. My friend had the crab cakes which were also more like a starter size for 23$.... We really felt ripped off. The cakes were good and the lady serving us was lovely though.
Good food with fast and friendly service.
We were looking forward to our lunch stop but were served by unenthusiastic staff member who likely should be fired. She was not helpful and got our orders all mixed up and didn't care to fix it. My friend ended up with beans that were terrible ( that were supposed to be for my husband but she had said they were out of beans so not sure how they came up with these) and they never brought what she actually ordered. My lunch did taste good so I will give a couple of stars but they may want to consider hiring someone else.
Awful experience! Owner was miserable threw our menus on the table and walked away before we actually got to the table. We were looking forward to breakfast food however, just a little too late as they stopped serving at 11 am. So we politely asked if there was other breakfast places and the owners tone was so rude. Well... I thought we better buy something so we had treat (very dry) but she said we would have to wait a few mins as she was busy. As we waited she swept the floor and rearranged menus before serving us. Danena if that’s your name we won’t be coming back nor will we recommend your place to anyone. Your baked goods weren’t even worth the stop to be honest.
Good food for a good price!
Excellent food and welcoming, rustic atmosphere!
Had dinner here tonight and it was just fabulous. I had pan seared scallops with turnip mash, while my wife had haddock with mashed potatoes in a lemon lime cream sauce. We shared the blueberry parfait dessert. The young lady who served us was delightful, and the chef danced and sang along with the Bob Dylan music that was playing. A full 5 star meal.
Awesome
I love this restaurant with its rustic charm and down home hospitality. There is nothing like a home cooked meal and delicious baked good topped of with a refreshing drink on a hot day of adventure on the Cabot Trail. As someone with celiac disease I was very impressed with how serious they took my request for gluten free. I was able to have a great gluten free meal and finished it off with a gluten free cinnamon roll.
The food here was excellent. I had mussel linguini with a dill sauce which was lovely.. Others at table had scallops, steamed mussels, and Linguini Rose with Bacon. I would order a side with the main course as it wasn't a huge serving if you are hungry.
Friendly atmosphere and very tasty food. Kids were happy with their order and the dessert is very good!
Love love love!! Amazing home cooked meals, all veg and greens from local farmers couldn't find a better place around to eat. Cute and cozy and the staff is so friendly highly recommend!!
Possibly the loveliest place we've ever stopped for lunch! The service was good, the food was even better, and they were kind enough to share their turnip hash recipe with me!
Had breakfast at Danena's, the food was amazing. Bought some delicious looking baked goods for later on.
The food is amazing and you know it's made with loads of love. Such a beautiful hidden gem, from the people to the food to the environment. Simply brilliant.best way to end an 8 hour drive.
We ate dinner and after that amazing meal we had to return for breakfast the next day. The presentation was amazing and the taste was even better. I wish they could move their business to my hometown. We will be back again next time we come through. If you don't add this place to your trip, you are missing out on one of the best meals of your life! 11/10
Very good seafood chowder. Great cinnamon rolls.
Tasty and a fair peice
Doing the Cabot trail options are limited. Food was expensive service was pitifully slow. Food was average we had $17 burgers was over $60 by the time you add pop. Time from order to service was about 50 minutes at 1 in the afternoon they weren’t busy. Place was very nice it has potential. Burgers were dry. Fried rice was bland. Turnip hash was excellent. Home fries about so so. And it was way too hot inside. And worse outside on the patio.
The staff were really great, friendly and gracious with customers. We had some baked goodies which was really delicious and the oysters were fresh, yummy. Its a small place, with a homey feel. A good place to stop by and have a filling meal ????
Highly recommend this hidden gem. Food is all delicious, all made fresh on site. The bistro is casual, eclectic and homely. The staff are friendly and welcoming. We just had the special of the day corn chowder, plus a chicken sandwich. Then shared an orange and mandarin cake with coffee. Couldn’t fault a thing. All scrumptious !
The very best homemade goods!!
It was a great little spot to stop for lunch. The people were friendly, the food was yummy and the restaurant was really quaint.
Delicious fresh baked haddock and amazing crispy potatoes. You have to try one of their freshly baked goods (date square was wonderful)
The fish and seafood dishes were excellent with generous portions. I would have marked it 5 stars if the service was as good as the food, and it was far from it! We waited 5 minutes for someone to welcome us although the place was almost empty and it seemed that the the young waitress was not happy to be there. We had to serve ourselves with beer and ask for a dessert when we were asked to pay the bill. Besides, the dessert (strawberry shortcake) was a mess. Go there for the fish!
Great food, great staff. Outdoor patio is welcome on a nice sunny day.
The service was really good but the food was disappointing. Really small portions and pricey. Dessert were good
Not much selection, and baked goods were on the pricey side. Staff were kind, food was good overall.
Ordered a sandwich to go and a cappuccino. The sandwich was alright and the cappuccino pretty good. The service was a little slow but the serving girl was nice.
Pretty sure the egg is missing here!! Butter nd lettuce mmm ????????
Great food, excellent service!
Great vibe and fresh food, perfect place to stop for supper along the Trail. Highly recommend the seafood jambalaya!
Stay away. Overpriced unfriendly and cold....food left us looking immediately for a washroom. Save you money....honest...dont go here
Friendly people but food was unfortunately slow and not well done.
We ate at Danena's last night showing up at 7pm after looking for somewhere to eat supper. She kindly invited us in to have a seat and check out the menu. Pretty sure she stayed open late for us. Very much appreciated. The food was delicious! I had the lobster linguine. It had tons of lobster!!! Super tastey!! Highly recommend!!
(Translated) A real treat ! (Original) Un vrai régal !
Great breakfast
The smell of frying permeates the place. Long wait for your food. Filling tasty food when it comes.
Food is fine. Like something you'd cook for yourself at home. Cute place tho
Super Bon café
Nice view with zipline beginning point right beside Windows. Excellent food. fresh mussel and lobster, highly recommend.
My wife and I had a fantastic meal here tonight! Brushetta, home made with fresh tomatoes, seafood chowder, so thick with seafood you can eat it with a fork, and crab stuffed sole, so delisously prepared by chef Marina! All courses came out hot and seasoned to perfection! If nothing else, Ya Gotta Eat Here! Oh ya, the freshly baked cinnamon bun for dessert was fabulous! Thanks for the great service and bill that did not break the bank!
We were a little hesitant to stop & didn't know what to expect, but it turned out to be AMAZING! We each had the fish burger which was delicious & not deep fried! I had a caesar salad with it & the dressing was perfect with a nice addition of blueberries! Only complaint: there was only seating on the patio/deck, which was fine, its actually what we prefer, but it was very hot with no shade at all. But all in all a very positive experience! Such a unique little spot. Go there!
Very nice local food and place has a nice vibe. Service is kinda slow, but who is in hurry anyways :)
Did not eat in. Purchased 3 different items from the bakery. Banana bread was ok but had to throw the oatcake and squares out - none of our group could eat them.
Good food
Loved the antique decor! My boyfriend and I had burger combos. The desserts were delicious. Service was fast and very friendly. Definitely recommended as a stop on your Cabot Trail adventure!
one of the best spots to eat on the trail, fantastic!
Wonderful chowder and baked goods. Highly recommend.
Excellent snacks! Fair prices and sweet staff
The food is fresh, healthy and great. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is casual really really cool. Best crab cakes ever. Just crab and some herbs, nothing else added, just scrumptious. Caesars are good too.
Such a pleasure talking to the girl working there. And the food was second to none! Especially the seafood chowder!
Darn good. Really enjoyed it.
Great place! Delicious coffee and delicious breakfast wrap!
Great staff, great food, awesome place to stop for dinner
