Lunch
Great, friendly service, and delicious vegetarian wraps/soups (and non-veg). PS. the cinnamon buns are amazing.
Staff is very nice. Very clean place too!
Just got a seasonal treat, the Peppermint Dark Bark Mocha with coconut milk. Loved it! Great variety of alternative milks and the soups are off the charts! Definitely hit this place up if you are in New West!
Good coffee and sweet staff
Awesome little hidden gem by the courthouse in New Westminster. Friendly service and good selection. Snacks, sandwiches, paninis, muffins, soup, wraps and treats all made in house. The owner is friendly and attentive and dedicated to good service. Cushions on the wooden chairs are a nice touch. There are booster seats and high chairs available. It can get busy with lawyers over lunch hour. Gluten free options are available. Handicap accessible.
Good as a regular cafe. Tries to call itself a board game cafe though, but its game selection is pretty narrow.
Great food, great customer service! Highly recommend this cafe! Try the Mango Chicken Wrap and Date Bar!!!
My new favorite cafe!
I will eat here when I forget my lunch at work, the food is pretty good. The coffee is nice but the 5 stars is for the staff. I come back here everytime because of the people behind the counter put me in a better mood then when i walked in.
Mocha is amazing!
Excellent coffee, wraps packed with goodnees, and homade soups and stews. Plus student discounts
Comfortable and Peaceful. Great home made food and muffins. Highly Recommend this cozy cafe.
good food and coffee staff is nice
A strange and uncomfortable experience. Paid $12 for a small cappucino, bagel, a cookie, and tea (with small mysterious worm creature floating in it). We were told to sit in the corner for the lunch rush even though it was empty. Weird decor with sheets on the wall and a hole with dusty old tools stored next to us. Overall an ominous atmosphere and mediocre coffee and food, we left as soon as possible.
Everything here is A++ Soups and the service are especially memorable.
Please read it all! Yesterday, I needed a place where to grab an iced latte while I was waiting for my appointment to get a tattoo nearby. I had a small snack with me (a very small egg sandwich and salsa) that I had gotten before I came to this place. I came in, there was a man who wasn’t that all nice since the beginning: he didn’t say “Hello” and his costumer service was poor. There was a lady who then came and she was actually very nice, she asked me how I was doing and then we talked about the plants they have in the cafe. The problem here was the man. I got my coffee to go just in case I had to go sooner, went outside to a small table that was on the sidewalk (see photo) and started to eat my small snack with my coffee that I had gotten at this place. At this point, I obviously did not notice this place also served “well prepared” food (well, I suppose they do, who knows) I thought they only had small snacks and crazy expensive sandwiches. I understand that, usually, it’s not allowed to bring any food from other places, some places are intolerant with this, some are more tolerant or nicer about it. The guy came out, stood up in front of me with no social distancing, spoke over my food and me. To “kindly” let me know that I wasn’t allowed to bring food. Okay, I can take that, it’s okay. But what he said next left me speechless, he said: “If someone else comes and wants to have food and coffee, I’m gonna ask you to leave so they can take a sit” WHAT? You can ask me to put my food away, you can ask me not to do it again. But you cannot ask and expect me to leave after I bought something and I’m consuming in your cafe, that’s unacceptable. People next to me were having just coffee (no food) as well. And there was 2 more free tables on the back patio. That was just really mean, poor costumer service, and stupid. All I said was “okay, thank you and sorry about that”. I finished my snack which took me three bites, and left after a stranger came and sit next to me. Come to this place but try not to be served by a 40sh years old white man. He’s not nice! Sorry if it’s too long. Bye
Great little cafe that is truly "hiding out" on Carnavon! Staff are very friendly and the food was really yummy! Loved the veggie panini. Great choices for drinks as well!
Was no there
Quiet, & tasty chai fogg!
Great service and variety of sandwiches and wraps available as well as pastries. Great coffee and tea selection as well. Only downside is the lack of outlets but otherwise a great location with lots of windows and a patio.
Bad coffee, poorly made almond milk cappuccino and the wraps are no good either, stop wasting your time and go somewhere else. This place is a dump with no selection, I refunded my food.
Had a to go coffee. Staff was nice and coffee was good.
The staff are always personable, the food is always amazing, and the atmosphere will make you want to stay for hours. Best cafe in BC.
This shop has a great menu for a small place and friendly staff. Go check it out.
Heaven on earth!
Only ever been there for coffee and a snack. Looks like it would be great for lunch too.
This place is "da bomb." Their coffee is amazing, they have probably too many different syrup flavours too choose and all their food is house made fresh and tastes better then I can describe because I'm not a foodie. Let me tell you though, if you want the beat cafe experience and you walked by this place you better turn your butt around and get back here.
Love their paninis, wraps, soups, and salads! Great place for lunch and super-friendly staff ????
Lunch
Cozy place
Delicious Thai soup and mango chicken wrap. Some of the best coffee in New West. One of the few places that can do a coconut latte well.
Cute little cafe in downtown New West. A good selection of food and drinks. Great coffee. Friendly staff.
Good coffee and decent food. Good is too pricey
Coffee was great, friendly staff, good prices. Cafe in general was grimy and unclean. Markedly smokey atmosphere from the grill, sticky, crumb-covered table (even under the placemats), filthy trashcan, smudged cold case glass...etc. Might have just caught them on a bad day but some of the filth seemed to have accumulated over time. Not alarming, but unpleasant. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but I would stop in if I happened to be passing by...but get my coffee to go.
Cute cafe, food was very flavorful
Nice place. Small and home feeling. Nice staff and cinnamon buns are awesome.
Some of the best wraps you'll ever experience!!
Amazing service, great coffee, excellent wraps. Such a perfect little cafe in the heart of New West!
Great food and friendly staff!! The veggie panini I had was really good !!
Meal type
Neighborhood favorite ♥️ Great handmade food and awesome friendly atmosphere
Nice and cozy cafe. Wish they were open longer hours.
I had the grilled chicken sandwich today. Just... Wow. One of the best sandwiches I've had in years. Absolutely perfect.
Pretty good panini selection. Very popular among the local legal crowd from the nearby courts. Coffee is self serve and just ok. The major issue is always open doors which doesn't make it especially cozy and the lady owner who really would let you time limit to stay there even if it's empty.
Great staff, awesome addictive muffins and good coffee. It is a hidden gem on Carnarvon near 6th street.
Amazing! First time going to this Cafe and Melissa and Winston were so kind and knowledgeable about their products. I tried the Tomato Basil soup and was blown away, the soup was light but packed with flavor. Also ordered the turkey cranberry ciabatta, the goat cheese really elevated the sandwich and was delicious! Definitely coming back to try out more.
Good food and coffee. I love their mango chicken wrap especially. I live across the street and it kinda seems like they're always closed?
Breakfast burritos...incredible!
Very friendly staff, which is a huge factor when I'm in the area and deciding on where to grab a coffee or food. The wraps are especially delicious.
Good place to study on Saturday afternoon. Fast wifi, few outlets, bright atmosphere. Music wasn't too loud and they weren't too busy. Bagels were super stuffed and tasty. Servers were sweet. I wish they were open longer. Paninis are relatively pricey but ingredients seem good quality. Good selection of milk substitutes!!
Great food, drinks, staff. A gem in new west.
Take out
Their cinnamon buns are really creamy and good. I normally drop by during my lunch break and always have great experience.
Awesome cafe! Friendly service and great coffee! Owner is inviting and positive, they have soups, sandwiches and deserts from local made companies as well as some house made options. They also stock kombucha and Philips brand sodas. Great new west community feel. Always love going in supporting a local businesses when we can.
Nice little cafe for a quick bite to eat! Staff are friendly!
Coffee is amazing. I much prefer it over Starbucks and Tim's. Homemade soups (favourites are tomatoe, mushroom, and corn chowder) along with their grilled wraps are absolutely fantastic. Peanut butter cookies are divine. Owners and staff are awesome. This business is a big asset to the neighbourhood on Carnarvon.
Adorable little place that stocks excellent banana bread and a large selection of teas. Excellent place that I'll visit again when in the area!
Friendly staff, poor vegan selection.
Quite nice.
I went there for the first time the other day. Melissa was very friendly. I had the lentil soup, their weekly soup I believe, and an iced americano. Everything was great, and I’ll definitely be coming back
Best food going especially if you're on your working lunch and you are looking for options. I personally recommend to try their soups or wraps if you have a big appetite. The coffee served there is the BEST!! The customer service is the very best in my opinion. They remember your face and your name if you take time to chat with them even though they're always busy and they want to look after and cater for you.
The most delicious breakfast wraps ever! Quick and quality service. Can’t wait till we can dine in again, as the inside also has great vibes.
Food and coffee is excellent.
Friendly, quirky staff. They have a selection of wraps, soups, and desserts.... One my favourite place for a cinnamon bun! Gooey and not too sweet! Their bean is smooth and easy. Subtle. Great place to bring a laptop or catch up with an old friend.
Came in for the delicious veggie panini while pregnant but couldnt have the pre made one due to the mayo so the owner made me a custom sandwich. Great service and great food. Love the Gooey cinnamon rolls too!
Always come here to focus. Music isn't too loud which I love! Now that I'm allergic to gluten it's hard to find cafes that offer goodies for me, but this place is good for that too! The service is always kind and lovely, and the drinks are always made with care.
Really enjoyed this cafe! The décor is relaxes and eclectic, and the server is very friendly! She even suggested a drink and modifications to my taste. Very great (not so hidden anymore) gem!
If you find yourself near the BC Provincial Law Courts in New Westminster and you’re looking for a place to hide out, you only have to go across the street to duck inside The Hide Out Cafe. The Hide Out Cafe is a self-acclaimed “hidden gem” which serves up paninis, wraps, salads as well as Fair Trade coffee. I showed up on a sunny May weekday and decided to try their Grilled Chicken Panini ($10.49) with meaty chunks of chicken, creamy melted cheese, and sun-dried tomatoes. Their menu appears to be limited to whatever they have already prepared for that day. The panini press gave this sandwich a nice crunchy exterior and turned a rather ordinary sandwich into a pleasantly hot, ooey-gooey treat. Perhaps not the best sandwich that I’ve had and I’d prefer if the sandwiches were made-to-order, but adequate for the neighbourhood. They also have a hidden patio off the side of the cafe where you can enjoy the sunny weather.
Cute coffeeshop near the New Westminster stop; friendly service, and well made cappuccino ???? if you need the washroom, you'll have to ask for the key behind the counter.
Very friendly local cafe. I enjoyed my visits here. Coffee and treats were nice.
I finally had the opportunity to visit this cafe today and it was wonderful! The owner(?) was so welcoming and informative and my soup and tea were nothing short of delicious. I loved the outdoor seating area and I can’t wait to go back and try more of their fresh, quality offerings.
Absolutely delicious Thai wrap and pea soup combo today!
We had a late lunch at the hide out and got the breakfast wrap, chicken panini, and the lentils soup. The meals were great, and the wrap came grilled too! The staff are very friendly, great place to chill indoor or outside!
It's a good little place to go for a snack.. it's slightly over priced.. and the owners seem to be having a lot of bads.. it shows!!
They deserve ten stars. Breakfast burrito is to die for. Mango chicken wrap, also to die for. Tuna fish bagel sandwich also worth dying for. It’s such a conflict When I have to order . Also don’t get me started on their salad with homemade dressing. Standing ovation. Wish they would turn this place into a chain, so one could pop up in my neighborhood
Really nice hideaway, with a handful of board games was a great date idea
Brutal service - turned around and walked out
I have to say I was pretty impressed. I didn’t think New Westminster had a place this good. Great Mocha and Hot chocolate, paired it with a Roast chicken panini and a side salad. Lots of chicken and fresh basil and the salad was organic and served with feta , cherry tomatoes cucumber, olives and red onion, very fresh. Hope to return next time I’m in the area.
Very cute and eclectic :)
Great coffee and nice variety of food. Good choice for vegan and gluten free.
I would waaay rather support this place than other bigger franchises. Healthy, delicious, quality food, great coffee, sweet location. This place is a hidden gem. I recommend everyone grab lunch here. Smoky tomato corn soup is amazing
Awesome little cafe hidden around the corner from the court. I assume all the layers go there fore coffee. I have seen many groups of them going there from court with their papers. The coffee is amazing and the atmosphere is too.
I wasn't feeling too well when I visited but the soups were delicious.
I liked the lasagna! Good food options.
The best cinnamon roll I ever had. Also the best service. Coming to New West don't miss this place
Stopped in for a tea randomly one day during work, and this place blew me away. Found myself stopping by all the time! The coffee is always perfect (and I’m kind of a critic), the soups are next-level delicious, and the staff are lovely. My go-to place this winter for sure.
I found the staff to be very rude and inefficient. The coffee is constantly empty. If you complain they give you a lecture on how they are just as important as you are, even though they are behind a counter! Nice way to relax..... NOT
Great local coffee shop.
The cashier was so awesome. Very down to earth. Made sure, during my visit that I was enjoying my soup. The soup that I had was Creamy Smoky Tomato. It was delicious ????
It's a great little cafe in New West with clean, healthy food and friendly staff. The prices are decent enough (like Starbucks) given where it is, and the sandwich I had was actually surprisingly filling. It's a busy place at lunch and I can see why. Definitely check it out!
Great lattes, but due to the current hours I can no longer go here.
I like this place. Comfortable, with decent coffee and reasonably healthy food options. They also have a selection of board games but I've never seen anyone playing them.
This is my favourite cafe in New West. I have been going to this cafe for many years now. The soups are exquisite. The service has always been enpointe. A true gem.
The soups. Are. Amazing. The mango chicken wrap was my go-to before I found out I couldnt have dairy, and the thai chicken wrap is a nice dairy free alternative! Their gluten free cupcakes are also quite tasty. The espressos are nice and sweet as well. The staff is friendly and attentive.
Friendly, comfortable place for morning coffee.
Super friendly staff, great service and reasonable prices.
I was looking around to support a local business. First time here and I loved it. The americano is the best I've ever had and rich in taste! I bought a couple muffins and loaves to share with some coworkers. Melissa is awesome and geeked out on how beautiful the crema is on the espresso. Made my day. Will recommend to family and friends.
Size.. Is small cramped even
Best breakfast wrap and lemonade I have ever had.
Love this shop. I hope the Pandemic ends so it can fully open up... Melissa is a doll
Excellent service and incredibly clean. I had a wonderful time and I guarantee I will be returning soon.
Small, cozy, right by courthouse skip lunch at noon
Great atmosphere, service and quality food and beverages
Best coffee shop in the GVA. Period. Friendly atmosphere, great music, and the best food you will ever have from a coffee shop in your life. Get the mango burrito. Just get it.
We were visiting from the UK and came across this lovely little café with a great selection of treats to go with your coffee. The warm cinnamon buns are incredible and the panini/wraps are so filling! This place does get busy and the staff work pretty hard but they are still so friendly. Would definitely recommend popping in!
Sweet place. Love of my life!
Some of the nicest people when it comes to dealing with downtown Folk still won't let you use their toilet
Delicious food and amazing service. If foamy lattes and a cozy atmosphere are your thing, this is your place. Best for breakfast/lunch.
Great place
A local cafe in the heart of New Westminster The lunch wrap there tastes great and the cappuccino is great as well.
Both the breakfast and lunch wraps are awesome and good coffee too. They get very busy around lunch time, to help with the line you can also call in with your order ahead of time - just make sure you know what you want since they will be busy helping in person customers too.
Quite a spacious place with a good vibe.
The Hideaway cafe is a lovely spot for a morning coffee, lunch date, or sweet snacks to go. Melissa is always lovely to chat with and has treats for her doggy customers! The coffee is well balanced and fresh, the cinnamon buns are perfectly gooey, and the sandwiches are well worth it! I am so glad they have been able to accommodate their service in these uncertain times. I am lucky to live the same neighbourhood as this delightful spot!
Good food and service, bit of a chaotic atmosphere.
Great cozy place with friendly service. I usually wouldnt eat in a coffee shop but the black bean baja is amazing and big enough for 2 meals.
My wife and I found this place by chance and the soup and Thai wrap were excellent. This is a fantastic place for lunch and would have no hesitation recommending this place to anyone
A few dollars too much for food a few notches too 'safe'. Asking for tips on your debit machine when you expect me to bus my own table and have counter service is annoying, too.
Great place.
A great hidden gem of a cafe. Very friendly and helpful staff. Been coming here off and on for several years and can't fault them for much. Best apple cinnamon muffin I've ever had and their lattes are delicious.
Among the really great coffee and wonderful staff, the breakfast burritos are SO GOOD.
A bit pricey but I would give up alot more for the amazing fare and homey atmosphere
Everything is delicious!!! Everything the create blows my mind. So many options for different dietary restrictions, and a lovely cafe atmosphere with boardgames available for those who like to stay awhile. Friendly staff.
As expected coffee and food
Great coffee, friendly service
This place is not for me. I tried to refrain from the mega franchise coffee places to support local. Walked in to a long line (must be good?). Coffee is self-serve which is ok but a customer informed them it was empty. She was told to lift the empty and hand it over and lift the full one. Customer seemed confused but the “barista” instead of walking around the counter, she motioned for her to give the empty and lift the lever of the other coffee canister. We ordered a hot chocolate and mocha. It is very tiny (3/4 plus 1/4 foam) for the large amount you have to pay. The “hot” chocolate was barely lukewarm. She was apologetic but then microwaved it to heat it up. Like I said. This place is not for me and can not recommend this to a friend. However, looks like locals enjoy the place, I was trying to figure out if it’s because of the proximity in location or the mango wrap- did not try. To be frank, I was uncertain about the cleanliness. Overall, average coffee shop with steep prices.
Went first time to this place today and ordered flat white, which wasn't on a menu. The owner made it for me and it was smooth and tasty, loved it! Will stop with my wife to try mango chicken wrap next time.Recommend this place for all coffee lovers in New West!
Second time I go to this place since I needed to do some things in New West. We decided to stop and grab something to eat for breakfast, good costumer service and I loved the veggie wrap!
It's ok. I go here because at least it's a local business.
Service
Those cinnamon buns are amazing. Thanks for making them.
Great coffee and some of the absolute friendliest people working here- on the downside the decor is a touch drab and it's always too cold in here to stay so I take everything to go.
I drank a tasteful latte there, good for those who like a coffee a little bit stronger. The place is very comfortable with background music.
Great service and food
Amazing service ! Thought I was going to get brushed aside because I look like a shaggy teen and the place is filled with lawyers but they treated me 5 star. I thought the sandwiches were overpriced but they were actually really good and well prepared and the ingredients were high quality. And they were big. 10$ is around the price I'd spend at subway anyways for a worse sandwich and without the beautiful atmosphere at Hideout.
My wife and I came here for Lunch and it was very tasty . I had the Big Breakfast wrap and she had a half Mango wrap with soup, potato bacon I believe. They were grilled and made with fresh ingredients. Try their coffee too, the latte’s and Americano’s are incredible. We will be returning when ever we’re in town. Quite a selection of food as well. Very clean. Recommended highly for anyone who’s enjoys great tastes.
Super friendly. They made am effort to get to know me right from the get go and their food is incredible! I have yet to meet someone who has been disappointed with their meal. I know I've loved everything I've tried. I would definitely recommend popping in if you happen to find yourself in New West.
The staff here is amazing, the food is big and worth the price, and all made in house. I love treating myself to this place. I am absolutely in love with the wraps!
Best Americano around. Fresh baked muffins are awesome.
Great coffee, great food, lots of vegan options.
This a great café. The staff are friendly, the menu is varied and everything is delicious. My only wish is that it was open on a Sunday, but they deserve a day off! It can get busy on a weekday lunch time, but perfect for a Saturday morning breakfast/brunch.
Staff was nice, food tasted good. Negative being the bagel sandwiches are over toasted and pressed, Because of this when you bite in to it everything inside pushes out the end and makes a mess
I was walking past the other week and I was surprised to see they were open, and decided to stop in for a latte. The barista was friendly, knowledgeable about the products, and made a great matcha latte. As she was the only one working and there was another customer in when I arrived, service was a bit slow, but not unreasonably. If you're willing to wait and have patience with the physical distancing measures in place, I think it's totally worth stopping in for a drink to go!
Their veggie breakfast wraps are deadly. I've tried another one of their wraps too and it was enough for two meals. Their in-house hibiscus ice tea is super refreshing. It's a great little cafe to pick up breakfast or lunch!
Lovely little boutique cafe
Meal type
A wonderful hide-out in a backstreet of New West. Try their mango/chicken wrap. You will not be disappointed!
Service
Always a great spot to visit with fresh food and amazing coffee. The staff is extremely friendly as well and Melissa is a ray of sunshine always. They have excellent COVID procedures too which includes contact tracing incase of any incidents. Overall a 5/5 experience.
Perfect temperature on this rainy day. Wonderful prompt, polite service. The barista even went to fix the modem when the Wi-Fi wasn't working. Most baristas wouldn't bother with that. Great place!
Simply rude. Didn't feel inviting. Friend quietly sat down at a table while I was ordering and got told to leave. Didn't end up getting anything because we got a bad vibe. It was our first and last time there. Definitely would not recommend.
Jatt Life
I love this place. The ham and swiss bagel sandwich is the best!
Lattes were wonderful, and the breakfast wrap was delicious. The staff are very friendly - a cozy and comfy coffeehouse.
