Excellent organic bread and cookies. Try the salted chocolate or Scotch oat cookies. For bread, the Russian rye is hard to beat. Sliced to order, as requested. The pizza and soups, not recommended. High prices and not very flavorful. Super friendly and helpful staff, for the most part. Don't skip the tip jar. They work hard but always stay customer focused. We don't live in Nelson anymore but we do miss visiting this bakery.

The Kootenay Bakery is a cooperative bakery using locally-sourced organic flour and they make everything from scratch, which is always nice to hear. When I was there, the selection was excellent and the bakery was fully loaded with baked goods. And while eating their cinnamon buns, fresh cinnamon twist doughnuts came out. So good! -- "Mimi's Cake Tour"

The bagel sandwiches made on their fresh sourdough bagels are absolutely delicious. Perfect to grab quick! Every treat I have had from here is amazing and I love the vegan and GF options.

Good coffee and pastries. They also have some hot food and pizza by the slice. The cream filled Long John and chocolate croissant were yummy. Stop in here on your walk down historic Baker St. in Nelson BC

???? I guess I took to long deciding, so the server had to to be rude, eye roll and hurry up get out attitude. I felt rushed and unwanted. I am first time customer, and I showed up around mid afternoon, I had a craving for something sweet. There was a lot of gluten free baked goods left, I see those are popular, not. The item I wanted was the only one left, I would of bought a dz if they had them. The server had to say that everything goes fast in the morning so that's all that's left, and I recieved a side of attitude with that, but yet there was lots of gluten free, huh. Maybe they should make less gluten free and more of the good stuff that goes fast. I guess bakeries only bake once a day now, when I used to go to bakeries in the big city when I was younger they always had stock of everything all day long, always lots of fresh yummy choices. A bakery might as well close for the afternoon if they have no baked goods in a bakery. I don't get it. How do they stay afloat by loosing money and customers? I would love to find a really good Bakery but it's not this one for me. Bakery= Baked goods i can buy and get with a smile???? ????

I ordered a shephard's pie with carrot juice. I enjoyed the juice. My wife got cheese and broccoli croissant with coffee. $26.00 altogether. A very nice meal in the downtown of Nelson.

Food was fresh and good (a bit pricey for the portion size) however we didn't appreciate the server automatically adding her own 20% tip to our payment, felt this was quite rude considering tip is decided by the customer.

Absolutely no covid protocol in place. I counted 30+ people in store yesterday. No distancing, no masks on employees, no plexiglass dividers, no hand sanitizer, just nada. Can't believe interior health hasn't intervened. Avoid this place like the actual plague.
