THEE best, tasty, wholesome bread in town.

Au Soleil Levant is a fantastic little back-alley French Canadian artisan bakery that churns out heaps of exquisite French baked goods. My favourite are the fougasse: small savoury stuffed breads filled with anything from mushrooms, green onions, garlic, and parmesan to bacon, white onion, sweet and spicy peppers, and gouda. They use rennet-free (vegetarian) cheese, and the fougasse are available in a variety of doughs including whole wheat, spelt, and their incredible sourdough. The first time I tried a fougasse I decided to have one every day that week so I could try them all. You can't go wrong with any one of them, but my favourite is the red onion on sourdough with its salty olives, delicious cheeses, and just the right amount of filling-to-bread ratio. C'est vraiment délicieux!

Quirky real French bakery with amazing bread tucked away. They take cash only... Canadian cash... But there is a convenient atm around the corner for day trippers like is who have not converted cash. Worth the search, and ask about the yummy cheese they have, too!

Bread, cheese, and esresso cookies are top notch

Honestly Some of the best bread I have ever had and definitely the best chocolate chip cookie! Also the raspberry tarts are divine. You can’t go wrong with anything in here. Remember to bring cash.

Mon dieu, c’est bon! Best little bakery I have seen anywhere in years. Stepping inside felt like like stepping into an old bakery in New France.

Oh my, my, my.... Nelson you are incredibly lucky to have such an beautiful establishment! My partner and I came here on a whim from a street sign, I have yet to see a "proper" bakery since being in Alberta/BC, Canada (sorry, that's some European pretentiousness coming through). Anyway, this bakery brought me back to times living in France. Sat around a table with family breaking fresh, delicious bread. The lady that served us was lovely, and the bakery itselfs had a calming/relaxing vibe (probably the low light and Arabian/Desert music that helped). MUST VISIT!

Local fresh stuff. Excellent quality

A tiny bakery with incredible quality and deliciousness, plus a great team. :) Tucked into one of Nelson's back alleys which makes it all the more special. Make sure you're ready to stand in line outside on Saturday morning if you don't go super super early (and it's worth it!). Get a croissant for sure and a "queen" (Kouign-Amann) if you want something sweet and memorable!

What an amazing place! On our stroll in town we stumbled into this French-Canadian bakery - it's a bit hidden and I'm so glad we found it! - it felt like we walked into a fairy tale! We were welcomed by two smiling ladies in French, while beautiful music was playing the back, they had so many amazing breads and baked goods and even a vegan Pâté to pair with our breads - totally felt like we were in a small French village for a few minutes.. The breads (and Pâté) were just delicious, and you can really tell they love what they do! the prices were really reasonable and the variety was great!

Sophie Hebert

My new favourite bakery. We tried their raspberry tarts and I've been craving them for two days now. The baguettes are delicious! I would suggest pairing them with their vegetarian pâté or their brie! I feel like I always get amazing value for my money here. I can't wait to come back.

Amazing!

Outrageous prices! CASH ONLY No parking Staff converses between themselves in French in presence of English speaking customers. RUDE! Product could well be exceptional but not worth the cost and agravation. I picked up an order for a friend, but did not purchase anything for myself after paying $20 for 4 six-inch fougasse. I guess the first clue is no prices on the menu. Even they know how ridiculous they are.

Jasmine Botto
