You have all the opinions of real people who consume the products and services of Mon Petit Choux (Bakery) in Nanaimo area (Canada).
Now the business receives a score of 4.3 out of 5 and that score was based on 127 reviews.
As you can see its rating is very positive, and it is based on a large number of reviews, so we can be quite sure that the valuation is very accurate. If there are many people who bothered to rate when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to place scores when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Bakery is classified in the category of Cafe.
One of our favorite places in Nanaimo for food. The bakery is excellent, especially the baguettes and croissants. Good all day breakfast menu. Get there in the morning for the croissants as they run out.
We had a very lovely experience this morning at Mon Petit Choux cafe in Nanaimo during our travels on Vancouver island. Amazing homemade nanaimo bar, was exactly what we were looking for. As well as the breakfast and fresh coffee. Excellent Service, lovely staff and an owner who provided us with a complimentary artisan baguette. Thanks a lot team!???????? Group from Czech.
Good food good service. Will return.
Underwhelming. :( Sat down for table service, ended up requesting it after 10 minutes of no acknowledgement. Got the Benny Croissant and it tasted like I made it myself, lacking any love. "Housemade" ketchup tasted like a can of pureed tomatoes. No one was kind or attentative. A little old lady asked for a glass of water and the waiter pointed to the broken down water station up a set of stairs. Literally 4 tables to "serve" and no rush in sight. Gross.
Best food in nanaimo and best value too! We are so fortunate to have a cafe like this in Nanaimo.
It's always great here! And the coffee is fabulous.
Great loafs of bread
I would include photos but the food didn't last that long. From the amicable waitress to the heartwarming hot chocolate this place feels homey and good. We ordered french toast, eggs benny, and side bacon. The quality of the food stands out amongst similar establishments in Nanaimo in regards to food most especially. Kudos to Mon Petit Choux for their stellar restaurant.
Super service a great Americano and Nanaimo bar was fresh. Highly recommended
Excellent breakfast in a relaxed atmosphere, a little taste of Paris on the island
A bakery & restaurant with a beer and wine license, and the best of all they use real cream and butter in all of their pastries!
Brunch
Beautiful! !
Really poor service, and poor selection.
In town for a week and had to stop in for breakfast a second time. Their breakfasts are decadent and their pastries are to drool over. We had Nanaimo bars every day for a week at a different places and nothing beat the Nanaimo bars from this bakery!
Their Roast Beef Sandwich is sooo good!
Delicious croque madam, and a great selection of pastries
Tiny, run down diner in Nanaimo. Have the crepes, they are delish.
Like the place, not far from where I live and parking is plenty If you got there earlier in the day.
Really cute cafe downtown that has a pretty good selection of breakfast options, and really delightful staff.
Busy but fun, the Red Fife wheat bread is delicious
Holy cow that coffee. That was amazing coffee. Stopped in for breakfast and loved it.. Nice homemade French food. And the bakery they have looked amazing!
Restaurant/bakery with a casual atmosphere. The food was excellent.
Delicious!
Not to be missed if you're in the Namaimo area. The americano was rich and tasty and the breakfast special (french toast topped with local tomatoes, peppers, and fried eggs) was a surprise hit considering its simplicity, but the showstopper was the fresh-made nanaimo bar. You'll never have a better one, hands down. Also grabbed a loaf of their focaccia to go, which was a nice treat on the drive out of town. Decor is intriguing and inviting as well. Superb all around.
The quiche was just a little less firm than I prefer, but it was delicious! They did get my friend's order wrong and put something she was allergic to on the dish. Plus, there is a "wait on yourself" element. If you want water, get up and go get it. I also wasn't allowed ice with my water, but a different customer was given a glass full of ice, so maybe it was just me? Regardless, the atmosphere is super cute, it's in a great location, the coffee is yummy, and the food is good.
Love the food, restaurant layout is very good for conversations, and the service is really good.
Amazing food and bakery
The food is usually top notch, the croissants are the best in town. Service is slow but worth the wait.
Great food and nice price!
Minimalist, french inspired food and drinks. Great tea and coffee. Their baguette and preserves is to die for. Hard to beat!
Delicious food at reasonable prices. Everything was fresh!
Most disorganized restaurant. We were the very first customers in and for some reason they "ran" out of home fries, so we got half our order and the waiter didn't even bother to tell us. He just brought our plates out. We ate our food because he was no where to be seen. When he finally came around I asked for some more coffee, he said, "it'll probably be a while"... and of course he never came around. We asked for a chocolate milk and he never brought it. Then we had to wait at the counter for half an hour just to pay. The guy workers were super unprofessional and emotional. The one was slamming doors because our waiter (the bearded tall guy) stole the Nanaimo bar that he already plated. This place was horrible! P.S we were excited to try the desserts and, of course, those were a huge disappointment as well. Don't waste your time going here.
Came in on Sunday morning, expecting a nice brunch, based on the reviews we've read online. We were seated right away, but the service was extremely disorganized. It took close to 10 minutes for anyone to give us a menu. When our coffee arrived, it was not great, had an overall sour taste. I asked for sugar when our coffee arrived but eventually after waiting for almost 10 minutes, we just walked to the front counter to get it ourselves. We waited some more for the waitress to finally come take our order. While the food arrived relatively quickly (compared to the rest of our visit), everything looked a little sad and the roasted potatoes also had a sour taste. If you like ketchup with your hashbrown or potatoes, forget about it, apparently they don't have ketchup here. Not once did our original waitress come back to check on us. In fact, the only time she ever came by the table was to take our order. I cannot recommend Mon Petit Choux based on our visit and I would not consider coming again to see if they do any better. There any many other restaurants and cafes in Nanaimo that I would rather try out then to give Mon Petit Choux a second chance.
Great breakfast
What an absolutely delightful experience. The staff were all so cheerful and warm. I had the ham and cheese croissant which was incredible, a fruit cup that was all hand cut fresh, and a double espresso that would kickstart anyone. The ambiance is that of a small vintage style coffee house like you might see in Paris, lots of plants and lovely decor. We finished our lunch off by sampling a few of their many flavours of macaroons, they melt in your mouth. I would absolutely insist anyone visiting downtown Nanaimo stops here.... even if they are local.
Terrable food and service the open kitchen only works if you keep it clean
Nice simple food. Good service.
Great service and great place to buy Nanaimo Bars if you are visiting.
The most charming little cafe with fresh baking and artisan breakfasts
Yummy! We always have the Chicken pot pie with greens because it is sooo good. But today we also added a dessert to make the meal complete.
Very disappointed. I was looking forward to having the french toast for breakfast. Most of the wait staff seemed unfriendly., and it took 10 minutes for someone to come and take my order. The French toast didn’t seemed uncooked and with no egg. Basically just some doughy pieces of bread with maple syrup on it. Awful. I won’t go back.
One of my favourite places for a delicious lunch and a sweet treat.
Very good latte
This place is next level in reguard to freshness, flavour, and quality. We tried the chicken sandwich and something that I cannot for the life of me remember the name of, but it was essentially an eggs benny made on a savory French toast with sautéed mushrooms, spinach, and ham, topped with hollandaise sauce. Both were so good we raved about them for the rest of the day! It was very very busy inside, but it's so worth it to wait in the line up for an amazing lunch!
Amazing food and pastry
Pleasant service and delicious food. I was too full and didn't have room for the baked goods. Will come back next time????
How do you run out of hash browns at 10 am?
Lovely food
Change in ownership; quality of food, coffee, and service remain good.
We had an excellent brunch at Mon Petit Choux. If you're from Toronto, you'll discover that this bakery is a cousin to Bonjour Brioche.
This is a lovely place for breakfast or brunch or lunch. Mon Petit Choux has a choice of sandwiches and Eggs Benedict dishes and I appreciated the vegetarian option with a side order of hashbrowns.
Delicious food and great service!
Great food and pastry
Marvelous food, pastries, and coffee!!
(Translated) Tried Nanaimo Bar here. It ’s good but a bit too sweet for me. Very popular local cafe. I ’d love to come back for breakfast or lunch. I tried Nanaimo Bar. It's delicious but too sweet for me ... It's a popular local cafe latte, so I definitely want to come for breakfast or lunch. (Original) Tried Nanaimo Bar here. It’s good but a bit too sweet for me. Great menu!
Had a great breakfast with a ham and cheese croissant and a cup of tea. Service is friendly.
French bakery and coffee shop, good food, smaller portions but tasty, and great coffee.
Ham and cheese croissant with a red eye coffee. Coffee came right away but they forgot the food order. Eventually waitress came by to check on us but that was after a considerable wait and other tables got their food. The croissant was good but not sure if it was worth $7. Good atmosphere, questionable service.
Wonderful little place! Felt very local and quaint, the interior was cosy too. I also agree with the reviews, the Nanaimo bar is great! Will definitely go again if I head back that way. My server was very lovely too ???? Thanks guys!
Service
Delicious coffee, food and accommodating for families with small children!
very good and very nice place
Very quick and friendly service. Pastry were incredibly delicious, they were crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside for my Danish, and Myra chocolate croissant. Kidlette had a cinnaroll thingy....... amazing she says. Coffee is very good here. Yummy.
Food and service are wonderful
Best cappucino and breakfast in town!
We always make sure to stop here when we go to Tofino! Super yummy and good selection but as stated in other reviews it is a bit disorganized. If it weren’t for that I would give them 5 stars because their food really is so yummy! I wouldn’t let the service discourage you, just be aware because it is worth a little hassle for what you’re getting :)
A cozy atmosphere located in downtown nanaimo. Nice staff but also disorganized. I had roast beef sandwich (Almost $11) and it was really good. Enjoyed it to the last bit. Came with a tiny salad next to it but didn’t know where to get a fork from and wasn’t served one. Chocolate milk was really bad. Neither myself or my little daughter could drink it. Also it was served full to the top of the cup with a drip of milk on the plastic cup. Staff were nice but disorganized and kinda clueless. Everyone is doing everything. I was seated and two of them had to tell me the soup of the day and any specials on different timings. When I was done, I asked for a Nanaimo bar to go but it was already finished and the waitress didn’t even bother to get back to tell me I found out when I was about to pay and had to ask the cashier.
Excellent Nanaimo Bars (they happen to be gluten free).
Everytime I'm blown away
Consistently great coffee, pastries, food, and service. Can't recommend it enough.
Delicious croissants. Good coffee. Awesome service. Perfect selection of pastries. Highly recommend.
Best breakfast I've had in a long time. Very nice atmosphere as well!
Best experience at a restaurant and the food is amazing.
We came in for take out coffees and were lured in by the beautiful baked goods. We ordered five different pastries and a croissant breakfast sandwich. Every item was AMAZING. This is likely the best bakery I have experienced. (Sorry France, #notsorry) Thank you to the owner for NOT refrigerating the baked goods (a mistake that many establishments make, which in my opinion ruins them) Stop by at least once, you will be hooked, we are!
Always a special treat! Love their sandwiches.
Delicious desserts and yummy lattes! Their croissants are amazing too. Love the breakfast croissant and their macarons.
What a disheartening experience this was. My colleagues and I went to this restaurant for lunch and I was disgusting by the statements during my meal. The female serving my colleagues and I asked about my sports interests to which I stated I enjoy hockey, at my horror she responded "We sure turned you into a real Canadian." As the only colored person at the table I was utterly shocked and appalled by this statement. I am Canadian by birth and I don't need to enjoy typical Canadian hobbies to be considered a Canadian. What a backwards and narrow minded view; I feel sorry for someone who doesn't see diversity and social acceptance as a positive that bridges us together as human beings. Absolutely sickened by this experience and will not be returning.
Little hard to get served but the quality of the Nanaimo bar definitely makes up for it! Even tried a seasonal pumpkin spice one, delicious.
Cute place with decent food. A little hipster for my tastes but I liked it for breaky.
Great Nanaimo bars with friendly service. Thanks!
A great place for tasty pastries, lunch, and a cup of tea or cappuccino, etc. Stop in and then shop the quaint stores along Commercial St.
Excellent food.
We had a wonderful lunch with great service and coffee - and one of the best Nanaimo bars I've ever eaten.
Good coffee, good pastries. Good atmosphere for working. Good Cafe, don't expect a restaurant.
Great food and nice decor, though the coffee was only okay. The ham quiche was bomb.
Wonderful. Coffee is amazing, pastries and other food is absolutely marvelous. It feels like a piece of France.
Bad service, food was awful ???? I don't understand why the have a patio if they don't know how to keep track of your order ????
What a wonderful owner. Such a kind and accomodating lady.
Lovely little pastries and tea. Great atmosphere!
Breakfast for 5 this morning Amazing service and meals were even better. Highly recommend this restaurant
The name of the place is French but didn't really have lots of French bakery except for the baguette and croissant. I ordered a mocha... it was sweet at the bottom but no sweetness at the top at all. Also ordered chocolate croissant... I liked it. For a French name I would like to expect more French pastry and bakery.
I have been coming here for over a decade whenever I pass through Nanaimo. Linda really cares about the quality of the food and has maintained high standards through the years. Excellent bread, gourmet sandwiches, pastries and baked goods. Everything is made with love and care. The treats are creative and tasty without being too sweet. I love the new almond/brown butter tart invention!
Nice place, cosy. A little pricey if you're on a budget but nice place to have coffee.
I come here every time I visit Nanaimo. It is always so friendly and the food is always amazing.
This place is lovely. Linda (the owner) is very friendly and treats everyone like family. I used to live in Nanaimo and went there often for a quick bite on my lunch break. Now I make a point of visiting every time I'm back in town. I have had lots of yummy baked goods, treats, and breads. Thier sit down food menu is also stellar, I love their smoked salmon and eggs dish, I get it almost every time. The feel of the place is spacious, airy, and open. It's also got patio seating in the warmer months. 11/10!
Great little place. I highly recommend the smoked salmon on scrambled eggs. I never realized how good those two taste together. Very friendly staff.
I really enjoyed my brunch at Mon Petit Chou - I had a really interesting french dish I'd never heard of and enjoyed so much I can't remember what it was! The ambience was great, it was a nice place to sit and enjoy coffee and a nice meal over a good conversation. Access is a little awkward for wheelchairs but it is there! enter through the pointy end of the restaurant, on the lower level.
The pastries here are epic. Go eat them.
They have delicious Nanaimo bars and even Vegan brownies! So wonderful!
I love this restaurant
Friendly service, yummy sandwitches and delicous dessets and fresh bread daily i eat here like twice a week!! Awesome location too!! Linda and gayton the owners always make you feel special they are very passionate about there little cabbage!
Love this place
this place was amazing. super nice and friendly staff, amazing food, very nice place. definitely recommend going here. one of the best cafes in nanaimo for sure!
Rated one of the number one places to have a Nanaimo bar in Nanaimo so as a tourist we were interested.. We arrived at 3:30 and they close at 4:00. The display case was empty and the male server was not really accommodating- When we asked if there were any Nanaimo bars available, his response was well I guess I could get you a frozen one. It was very off putting. Try the Red bakery across the street.
Good food. Delicious.
Great atmosphere, great food, and even better desserts!
Nice little place in heart of downtown Nanaimo. Good food and nice feeling about the place.
Delicious lunch, good coffee thank you.
Everything was very delicous. Very warm people! Definetely go back :D
Had the mushroom soup and bought a pack of Red Feif bread. My wife had two eggs on brioche with ham & Swiss my daughter had the same except on saviry French toast. Delish!
Great coffee and tasty croissants. As a plus, you can tell the staff is working super hard while being attentive.
Amazing French cafe, go get breakfast here
Always love the food, and service is timely. I always cut the roof of my mouth open on their tasty baguette sandwiches!
Coffee is good (espresso) and the food is okay.
Coffee is not good, that is why the 4 stars only, so I rather go somewhere else for my coffee fix. should step up, the rest very nice and pleasant.
Some of the best food in Town. This is real cuisine.
Who wouldn’t want to eat delicious food and sit back in a massive booth with beautiful women ? The bread is ????????
The breakfast was great, some good vegetarian options! Service was really friendly too, highly recommend if you're staying at a hotel nearby.
Simply go here, you'll love it
Good breakfast options. Fairly reasonable prices. The kitchen and dining area are shared so your clothes are suffused with the smell of cooking. Coffee is strong and back. Wait service somewhat unpolished although they mean well. The roasted tomatoes were a stand out.
Absolutely loved it! The croque madame was outstanding and the atmosphere was so lovely!
We stopped here for some treats. They kindly gave us some treats. We ate those treats. They were delicious. FIVE STARS!
The waitresses were literally arguing in front of us (one told the other that she "does all the work around here", while another complained with attitude to some customers next to us that "the other server is a new girl and she should have taken your menus away"). Felt neglected right from the time we entered (no sign to seat ourselves and no one to welcome us in, we got passed by several times by so-called mentioned "new girl", until we were able to catch her attention to ask if she should seat ourselves). Won't even mention the fact that the toilet paper is missing in the washroom, horrible slow service, ask 3+ time for the pleasure to get a coffee refill... all service issues. The food was great, so props to the chefs and cooks, but service ruined the experience. To the owner, I recommend you search the word "service" or "servers" in these reviews and see that this is a reoccurring issue, you have amazing potential here, just overhaul your serving crew.
Friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere. I ate here the roast beef in a baguette. It came with a gravy dipping sauce. I enjoyed it. I also ordered a side of hash brown but I didnt like the herbs used because it was too strong. Drip coffee was decent, some medium roast.
Simply great food
Delicious baguettes. If you are looking for a light breakfast or dinner, this is the place.
Always always alwasy THE BEST
Great food and coffee, lovely staff. Can't wait to visit again
I wish I read reviews before I went. Waited in a short line for 20 minutes, since there is not one person directly managing the till. Was told I shouldn't have waited in line to be served at a table... Did not see any signage to tell me this. Was treated rudely by the barista/person at till for waiting in line. Had to ask about our Americanos since they forgot about them. No manners from any of the staff, and felt like I was more of a hassle to them.
Excellent service and breakfast. Everything made from scratch and you can taste how good it is. Owner is lovey and bubbly. A must go if you are in town
Meal type
I had glass in my food. It was absolutely delicious, seriously I'm in culinary industry and the chicken pot pie is phenomenal, service is amazing. Glass gives extra flavor. I highly recommend eating here.
Fantastic spot for breakfast or lunch, the coffee is good the food is well made and the bread is delicious. My wife (who lived in France for a bit and adopted some of their delight in good bread) will often pick up a baguette after we get a meal here, its our favourite spot to stop when we come through Nanaimo.
Quirky. Breakfasts are tasty but portions aren't huge. Great bread! Service can be hit or miss; on busy days expect to wait. No high chairs for younger kids. Booster seats available. Overall a nice place to sit and have a conversation over a meal or a treat. Bring a little patience and expect to enjoy your visit.
Good pastries. Would definitely come back to try more of the baked goods.
A great coffee house/bakery. Delicious baked goods. Great coffee Low sound level. Nice location. One star off for selling out of best items early. So, get there early. The cinnamon bun made out of croissant dough is outstanding.
Beautiful little place, they can make a flat white and a wicked eggs benny
This is one of my favorite places to get special "treats" in Nanaimo, they make beautiful pastries and deserts, we often take the deserts "to go" and enjoy eating them on the beach. I love the coffee's too! Warm & friendly atmosphere.
Didn't try the breakfast. I'm sure they are great, but the bakeries were sub par. The chocolate croissants and the baguette were kind of stale and cold.
Very good food and drinks done the right way. Friendly and courteous staff that treat you like family friends
Always welcoming, the best coffee and love the menu.
Terrific cafe with wonderful and accomodating service
Very good.
Delicious French bread and pastries, and meals with a French twist. The ambiance and decor are welcoming, in continental style. Friendly staff.
Dine in
Great food. Excellent service! Bakery to boot!
Yum! And gluten fee options too! Bakery looks amazing!!
Great food and service!
The Nanaimo bar was amazing!
I really enjoyed the atmosphere in here, it was cute and quaint like you were stepping into a foreign place...then i was reminded that we were in the city as parking was a bit of a pain. Be sure to stop in though eapeically for lunch. Service was fast, staff friendly and food delicious the vegetarian sandwhich was my favorite, my son had the ham and cheese on brioche was rich and satisfying. Of course you need to try a nanaimo bar and wont leave disappointed by its sweet yet lighter taste then other bakeries versions
Decent food, but smokey and slow.
My favourite little place to visit when in Nanaimo. Great everything!
Masters of flakey pastry!
Fantastic restaurant that makes their own baked goods. Fantastic for lunch or breakfast, oh and have I mentioned the coffee? Tasty!
Always great food. Not the biggest portions but quality and value. Nice atmosphere too.
Delicious coffee, crispy croissants
I LOVE THIS PLACE...always a treat to have breakfast here...breakfast sandwich on an amazing croissant with a tea...8 bux
Brunch
Great place to have good coffee and a nice meal.
Delicious breakfasts, sandwiches baked goods and specialty items. Relaxed and fresh setting with fast service. Nice for small groups as well and the patio is lovely in the summer.
Delicious sandwich and bread, friendly service, convenient location, slightly sad patio space but still outdoors.
Drumroaster coffee served here!!! Super yummy pastries and the best chicken sandwich. Mmmmm
A nice little spot in Nanaimo's Downtown heritage district. Feels cozy and retro with good service and. Great food!
Great food
Second visit, comfortable atmosphere and good food.
The food is consistently fantastic and the staff are professional and friendly. Also I feel comfortable with their level of Covid consciousness. Well done, again!
Pretty sweet little French café. First class house-made croissants, nice staff, and well made lattes.
Friendly staff. Good coffee and food. I ordered a sandwich, it was a bit more petite than expected. My friend had a pastry and was happy with it.
The greatest bakery in the kingdom of Nanaimo Buttery goodness and nice staff. If you want mouth watering desserts, come here right now.
(Translated) Naniamo bar! (Original) Naniamo bar !
So many house made dishes and ingredients! They do it right here. I wish the outdoor seating had more shade but some days are pretty windy here so maybe that's not always practical. The pastries are all done very nicely. Sometimes the sandwiches feel heavy on the bread but that's good bread and maybe just a difference in preference for me. Overall, great spot that's in a great spot! Some of the employees are very fun an engaging or just laid back. The place definitely has personality. It's one of the places I'd suggest anyone go if they're looking to try a Nanaimo bar! Just maybe get it with an iced coffee if it's a hot day. A hot one if it's cold, feel me? Their dishes and pastries are well flavored. Portions aren't too big but that's kinda expected at this cafe type place and you wouldn't feel it's overpriced for the quality and how in house it all is.
Delicious and the owners love their job
Best Nanaimo Bar, ever.
The best Nanaimo bars and coffee around! Loved this little spot in downtown Nanaimo- I searched best Nanaimo bars on google and was pleasantly surprised when I tasted these with my mom and grandma! Well done!
Best Nanaimo bar I've ever had! Not overly sweet like most. A definite must have when in Nanaimo!
We were passing through Nanaimo and decided to stop here for a coffee and a snack. When we walked up to the counter we were greeted and asked what we would like, and if we would be taking our orders to eat there or to go. We asked some questions about our options and as we were deciding, suddenly the woman behind the counter informed us that, actually, we can't order anything because they would be closing in 12 minutes. The kitchen was already closed. So... Why not tell us that when we entered instead of wasting our time? We weren't even able to just order coffees. Needless to say we were not impressed with the service.
Yummy food, excellent service, best bread ever.
Wonderful place for coffee and some sweets! Hands down the best Nanaimo bar we've ever tried! Would definitely recommend this place!
What a gem of a coffee house this was, great coffee, pastries and atmosphere. The only problem I had was parking, but that of course is not their fault. You can never go wrong with indie coffee houses.
Very poor customer service , store manager was not very accomodating . Overall really poor experience and would not recommend it until staff ammend there mood when engaging with customers. Waitress was really pleasant.
Killer crepes and super crunch baguettes.
THE cafe and bakery in Nanaimo. It has great coffee and excellent eggs benny. Sets you up for the day no doubt. The fruit is a nice touch and it’s friendly staff are a blessing. Hugs included. A great little place to get brunch and coffee.
Very good coffee shop. They have a good selection of very light menu items. Good place for a nice breakfast or a light lunch. Staff is very friendly and service is done well.
Wonderful coffee and atmosphere.
Mmmmm, good coffee, great pastries, superb food. Lovely atmosphere, my favorite lunch joint.
Good pastries and coffee... Friendly service. Very low key cafe.
Damn. They have some seriously good pastries.
Does have some positives but me and my sister did not have a good meal.
Wow!
A perfect date spot. Met the woman I love here for my first date, and have loved the delicious coffee, phenomenal food, and wonderful atmosphere ever since. A cafe always hosting good conversation, beautiful reunions, and delightful people.
New owners Everything changed.
Wow yes! Called ahead because apparently the 27th of December is a town-wide holiday for bakeries and was greeted by the nicest lady! Got there 10 minutes later and had the most pleasant conversation while simply ordering some Nanaimo bars. Thank you for the amazing service! From the two "Eastern European Hockey players"!
Amazing service. Great food and in a quaint neighbourhood
Best Nanaimo bar! And the lunch was pretty great too!
Hearty service and flawless breakfast dishes. I had the Croque Madame, my friend had salmon on scrambled eggs. We came back a day later: he had a French toast, while I had a roast beef sandwich. Both times were highly satisfying.
Delicious coffee, French toast made of yesterday's breakfast pastries formed into a loaf. Super service and pleasant atmosphere. I'd go back.
Very friendly service, fantastic quality food and very reasonably priced. Definitely will be going there next time I go through Nanaimo.
Such a charming place. Peaceful surrounding and delicious bakes and chai latte :)
Cool place, coffee was better than Starbucks lol good atmosphere and vibe. Will be back in the future.
Fun little breakfast place and cafe in downtown Nanaimo!
This place is amazing!! Super friendly and really nice food. The food is beautiful and light — not feeling so heavy afterwards. I sat outside with my doggie and they were very kind to her too. The patio is nice to enjoy the Nanaimo downtown area.
Always delicious and a conscientious staff. One doesn't work without the other.
The food was very good. My daughter had the French toast and we had a sandwich each... The well sourced, local, fresh and often organic ingredients along with the care and attention of the people preparing the food was excellent. But, our wait time was terrible and the service staff were mostly miserable and unhelpful. We were glad that the food was as good as it was, once it finally arrived.
Great soy hot chocolate, loved the eggs and bacon. Bread was very yummy with whipped butter. Granola with fresh fruits and honey was also delicious!
My favorite Cafe in Nanaimo
The nanaimo bar was heavenly. Breakfast was yummy.
great quiche ! the servers were great and the view outside was nice :) service isn't the fastest, but the wait is worth it.
Great for a warm drink and tasty treat. Delicious bread!
A great breakfast on the sidewalk patio. Eggs and salmon! Yummy!!
Best to avoid this place when it's very busy. Unable to handle small groups of 6-8. Slightly overpriced. One friend found a hair in her food. The other friend got under cooked meat. However, they compensated with not charging them for their food and gave them each a bag of cookies.
Pain au chocolat--sooo delicieux! Coffee good, too. Definitely stop here.
Handy
Great service, excellent food and a wonderful environment ????????
Very nice service and a friendly environment!
(Translated) Delicious (Original) Delicieux
Great little cafe.
Flaky, golden European style pastries!! Irresistible!
The best... caring working owners..considerate staff, consistent flavours and uncomplicated menu.
The name of the restaurant is grammatically incorrect.
Our favourite cafe to eat lunch at. Amazing french bakery, and nice coffee. Lovely atmosphere.
The food was so good we came back just 3 days later before we caught the ferry home. The owner is super friendly. The bread is so amazing we bought a couple loaves to bring home. Everything is freshly made in house and organic - you can totally tell. Even the coffee is better here ????
Great Food. Had eggs Benny and the breakfast sandwich. Both had croissants that were amazing. Staff was great too. All and all great experience.
My partner and I were visiting from Ottawa and were really excited to visit Nanaimo and try a Nanaimo bar. We were happy to come across this cute cafe but once we stepped inside, we were quickly let down. We stood there for a good 5 minutes wondering if we were going to be seated (a waitress passed us quite a few times) until we finally had to ask for a table. Once we were seated, we still had hope for this place since it has a high rating. The food was delicious, but the service was horrible. The waiting time is ridiculous and the waitresses are not very friendly or attentive. You need to wave them down and repeat your order once or twice to get anything, like a coffee refill. Overall, really great food but terrible service.
This place is great! First of all, the owner Linda runs a fantastic business. That is obvious by the number of regulars and newbies and as well the staff who have been there for a long time. Second of all, the space is full of light and comfortable. Third. The staff really are great. Just relax and enjoy. If you are looking for a fast food experience go somewhere else. I am a regular. Always enjoy my experience. Enjoy great breakfasts and for lunch -- soup perfection (not flavoured with salt). There are a lot more adventurous classic french items on the menu. If you haven't been there a definite must try.
Mon Petit Choux was recommended to us by one of the staff (a trained pastry chef) at our hotel in Nanaimo, and we were not disappointed. We had a few little deserts namely a Nanaimo bar and a chocolate caramel tart. They were very good and one of the best Nanaimo bars I've had. We were there before 10 and it was quiet. The service was good; however i would not recommend using their bathrooms. The overall atmosphere was trendy, relaxing and a bit Parisian. I would go again.
Atmosphere is pretty nice.
Lovely little cafe, very good coffee :)
Hey, this place has a nice, bright atmosphere inside, and an enjoyable, enclosed patio outside... The staff have always been kind. The decadent vegan brownie is super delicious and perfect to share with a friend. The vegetarian sandwich has a vegan option, but I think it would be better on a sourdough or rye sliced sandwich bread. The baguette is lovely, but I think too much bread in this case. A vegan aioli (almond, cashew, or "veganaise" based) and a bit more olive tapenade might help to bring in a bit more flavour. I've tried the vegetarian quiche before which I enjoyed... It is very nice to have vegan options, and I appreciate the effort. I will go again some time for the brownie and a tea. Thank-you. Cheers.
Great coffee and pastries; wow on the nanaimo bar!
Rundown, torn booths with duct tape. Poor service. Baked goods are just that good but not great.
Couldn't see the sign and asked someone on the street where the nearest place to get a coffee was. It is a light and airy cafe with a bakery. Nice!
Can you PLEASE change your menu. Also could do with a solid cleaning...
Thoughtful and well prepared food. Owner is passionate about her establishment
Coffee served on a platter. Americano is the best.
Great coffee. French bakery and Cafe. Beautiful building and indoor space. Classy.
We ordered croque madame & french toast. Loved them
Good coffee and very tasty pastries.
Great little restaurant. Really enjoyed the food and service. Thank you very
Always a delight to visit for the warm welcoming ambience, and the absolutely amazing baked treats.
Fabulous decor Excellent staff Delicious food.
Very very nice people
Always a lovely treat, dropping in for a snack, or coffee a little french patisserie in the heart of Nanaimo.
Fantastic place and the staff and owner are super people friendly. Just dropped in with minutes before closing to pick up a desert. Food is so good. Please visit. You wont be disappointed.
Easily the worst cup of coffee in Nanaimo. I didn't even realize coffee could taste this bad. Go have a cup and tell me that isn't a mouthful of garbage.
Good food at a fair price.
Excellent quality food and baked goods.
Very disappointed with the service particularly the grey haired male server who gave the impression he was unhappy in his role. When we asked for water he stated " you can go and get your own water" and pointed up the stairs-. We will not be back
The food was delicious, with absolutely the best French-style bread! We were a large group and were accommodated with smiles and great service.
Worst service ever. Only reason they get 2 stars is because the food is good
Desserts are simply superb.
Friendly, casual, good food, great coffee.
These are probably the best pastries I've had outside of France. The place is incredible. I hope it lasts forever.
Excellent breakfast and service + very reasonably priced ($35 for 2 meals + 2 coffees 20 % tip included!). Highly recommended =)
Fantastic food! Not just ours, but as my wife and I looked around, everyone's food around us looked A+. No chain restaurants can touch this this place. Highly recommend and we always co.e back to here!!
Terrible service, hair in food and not cooked what we requested. Very disappointed. Very rude staff.
TOO COLD !! I ALWAYS ENJOYED THIS ATTRACTIVE A . FRIENDLY PLACE, but please turn on Your HEAT ON 11. at least in the winter ! today was the 2nd time i walked out ,it is chilly in there especially by the windows !! Food great, Coffee awesome ! Service good, sometimes sluggish!! . Last year ,the owner, w. blue car requested in a pushy manor ,that i pull my car right back out ,where i had just parked .( in front of cafe) So HE could park there , WOW !! I was flabbergasted ! I did park elsewhere ! But I did'nt Leave that day ! Please turn HEAT ON !! Thank you will be back !
Great staff and good food
Lovely food and charming building. Would have given 5 stars but they were not at all busy but the kitchen took ages to produce our meals which were all varations of egg dishes. Waitress service was great.
They make a good latte. Friendly staff.
Ordered 3 tuna sandwiches and water for lunch. Water came right away but they forgot the food order. Eventually asked the waitress to check our order but have not made yet our sandwich yet been there 20 minutes of waiting, that was a considerable wait and other tables came later than us got their food. Willing to wait for our order to go but when waitress followed up our order, the chef said if they have any complaints they can cancel their order, so we cancelledour order since we have to be at the whale watching in few minutes. Good atmosphere, questionable service. Traveled from Vancouvee to try this place.
A four star restaurant, food was good, waitress was very friendly. BUT, I waited 35 minutes for my food. Did the cook go take a nap ????
Good coffee, pleasant staff, food ok but a bit pricey for what it is.
I haven't eaten there yet, but we have a Seer at the table and he says four stars. Will update tomorrow after we try the nanaimos, if we can figure out when they're open. Speaking of which, could you please post your hours someplace? Cheers!
Not fast food . The food is fresh and tasty. Owner very Friendly and attentive staff.
Nice food, nice staff, pleasant music, not so loud that it competes with conversation
Had a wonderful Time. Coffee and croissant delicious
Great coffees and pastries
Fresh and delicious
The best latte in town! Very similar to a European coffee. Tres bon!
Food is great. But a very unpleasant atmosphere. The staff are rude and passive aggressive. They don't do anything blatantly but they gossip, stare and judge everyone that comes in the door. Even the way they speak. They must think because they work at a semi upscale establishment that they are better than the rest of us...
We went in around 2pm to get some snacks and a Male cashier was extremely rude!! He got our order wrong so we asked for the correct item and offered to pay the difference, he turned to us extremely upset and began to yell at us. We wanted our money back after this experience bit decided just to leave and probably never come back here. He was extremely unprofessional and clearly hated his life. Please hire nicer people!
Great coffee. They even pulled off a solid approximation of a cortado despite having never even heard of one. Service is super friendly and fast. Their Earl Grey chocolate mousse is ridiculous in the best way.
My favourite breakfast place in Nanaimo. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. A very cozy environment with great food and atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Great breakfast nook. Portions are realistic. Best experienced in the summer when you can eat outside. All food and pastries are made on-site.
Great people great food get the salmon and eggs
Oh my goodness, love the french toast! Like no other!
Baked goods were good but service was extremely poor. Waited almost 20 minutes for 2 Americans after they were completely forgotten about. While I waited I saw food sit on the pass for almost 5 minutes before the cooks called for service so I can't imagine the guests receiving that were impressed with the temperature. With the options of cafes on this street I would definitely opt to go elsewhere.
Eggs Benny was fantastic! Long Americano was perfect ????
Brilliant in every way....
Good pastries, coffee and soup!
Best nanaimo bars in Nanaimo
This was rated well but extremely awkward experience, it advertised iced coffee but the give it to you in a regular hot coffee cup with no straw or lid. So I had a normal hot coffee lid..weird to drink something with ice in it like that. I asked my kids to sit at an empty table while we decided whether we were going to stay or not and the waitress asked me at least 4 times in 5 minutes about whether we were staying. Mind you the cafe was 1/3 full. The regular coffee my cousins got was ok..the pastry selection was very limited.. Definitely not a place I would go again.
Excellent pastries and lunch menu.
Every visit to Nanaimo includes a stop here. Sometimes just coffee usually lunch. Food excellent, service usually very good, but sometimes a bit spotty. Staff's product knowledge usually good. Staff always friendly. Problem only once & next week when I returned she was gone. Best of all, other customers very friendly to outsiders. Love this shop.
My long-time favourite place to eat in Nanaimo -- I only wish it were open for dinner, too! The atmosphere is warm and cozy and light-filled, the air scintillating with the many regulars' conversation, with the eclectic, mellow music almost subliminal, at times, a subtle, non-intrusive 'counterpoint' to conversation and eating -- all very welcoming. And 99% of the service is focused, warm and just attentive enough. And the food -- well! First of all, I seldom eat bread anymore, but this little bakery makes their own loaves with such deliciously chewy crusts that I, for one, can't possibly resist. Although I've tried many of their other dishes (all beautifully prepared and tasty), I seem to keep alternating, mostly, between the same two sandwiches: the Niçoise (tuna with capers), and the Roasted Vegetable. But then, the Roast Beef with Brie is awfully good, too...and the -- well, you get what I mean. Their deep, dark and handsome coffees smell seductive, and make you want to keep company with them more often than you might think wise.... And if you like sweets, their front pastry counter will beguile you with the modestly named Pecan Bar (try to resist ordering one again sometime once you've tried it!), the varied flaky pastries and petits gateaux (only a few of which I've tasted, but which look downright magical) and what I consider to be the definitively best Nanaimo Bar I've ever tasted: not too sweet, with a nutty base and velvet-like chocolate and custard bits -- I swoon just thinking of it. (They've often sold out of these by the time I think to ask for one, so I've taken to ordering it along with my main course). If I'm too full, or just don't feel like anything sweet right then and there, I occasionally take one of these treats home -- where the elegant little box winks at me every time I open the fridge door. I haven't lived in Nanaimo for over two years, but every few months I plan a pilgrimage around at least four fixed points of interest: my private/retired mechanic's expert ministrations to my aging Toyota, the pleasurable surprises to be excavated at both Well Read Books and Fascinating Rhythm, and the cozy delights of a leisurely meal amongst the frequenters of Mon Petit Choux. Why not give them a try; you may become one of them...
Excellent coffee and baked goods. Really tasty dishes to order too
finest latte's on Vancouver island
I love this bakery!! The food is amazing and the staff are friendly. I highly recommend at least trying it.
Excellent food but super disorganized and very slow service.
Good food. Neat location.
Only ordered espresso drinks, but the barista knew his stuff and the coffee was excellent.
Loved it. Best Nanaimo bar I've ever tasted and lots of other fantastic pastries. Stopped in for breakfast a couple of times while visiting Nanaimo.
Long time fans. Food and service good today but cleanliness not. Dust, dead flies and plants weren't an appetizing view.
12 out of 10!
Note recent high reviews without text. They are bogus. The low service standards of this cafe make you wonder if staff is purposely running it into the ground. Dishes stacked up on the patio, older customers being treated poorly. A gong show.
The ambiance at the cute corner located café is worth a visit. Down to earth vibe, indoor green plants and nice decor, amazing staff and clean washrooms. I was impressed by their brunch options. Recommend you check them out!
Great Quiche ☺
Delicious lunch and desserts. Would highly recommend.
Great croissants consistently good coffee
Came here on a quiet Mon morning. We waited over half an hour for simple breakfast of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. When we caught the attention of the server, she asked us what we ordered....terrible service overall.
Great French pastries!
yummy!
Best place to have a breakfast
Awesome, European goodies
Simply the best breakfast and dessert specials in town along with a European setting and friendly servers. Completely home-made ingredients - no margarine or bad oils on the premises. A delicious freshly baked croissant with farm fresh scrambled eggs and a delicious latte in the morning of a scrumptious French pastry or baked treat with the same (or leaf tea) in the afternoon for $5 to $8. The experience can't be beat! I love this place.
We went twice to the restaurant Mon petit hoi . The food is not bad. We loved the quiche and the tomato pie. The pastries are good without being extraordinary. The price of bread is correct for a foreign country. On the other hand, we regret the quality of the service. You can offer smiles, but waitresses never give them back to you. They seem jaded to do this job and inspire no joy of living. The opposite total with the boss. It's a shame because there is no harmony in this place. Cleanliness also seems to limit us
Love doing lunch with Jo here.
It's a cafe with yummy food and coffee. You can either eat in or take out.
Too expensive for what they offer
Great little spot with excellent food. Made fresh on site. Very tasty. They do seem to be short on staff like just about everyone else in the area.
Unfortunately not that impressed. First of all we arrived to an empty restaurant which slowly filled up, and we were the absolute last to receive our food (Eggs and croissant, eggs and French toast). My eggs were cold and barely cooked. The worst part of it was the French toast had ham and other items in it I was not expecting - I am a vegetarian and unfortunately cannot eat ham or I wouldn’t have ordered the menu item if the menu had stated that. I truly am a strong believer that you need to put all items and ingredients on the menu for situations such as allergies and instances with people such as myself. Sorry to say I won’t be back, perhaps their menu is better suited to others.
The home made soup is awesome
A lovely artisan cafe with a great selection of brunch/bistro items, delectable desserts and specialty bread to take home. It's a small slice of Paris where artists frequent and people-watching is plentiful.
Best nanaimo bars ever!
My firned and I just had the most wonderful experience at this beautiful and welcoming restaurant. We had the Eggs Strata and it was perfection! If that wasn't enough the staff and restaurant personalized our experience with their passion to serve their customer and community with local, whole and organic food. Thanks again and don't miss out on this amazing culinary gem!
Had a nice HUGE medium latte, and some bennies on a croissant. You can taste the local ingredients. Server was super nice and attentive.
very good!
Waited for an hour with no coffee refills while 4 waitresses were at the till gossiping. Had to flag down the bus girl for a refill. When we finally got food it was cold . Scrambled eggs weren't edible . I would not recommend this place till they fire all floor staff
Had a quick lunch with a group of friends. Food was good..but they were out of many things. A little pricey for what is offered. One strange complaint..a woman that works there got a little too familiar with one of our group. I'm sure she was just trying to be nice but made our friend very uncomfortable.
We ordered the vegetarian baguette sandwich, and the breakfast muesli. They don't have a kids menu but they were so accommodating basically telling us they would make up whatever we wanted for our son. We ordered scrambled eggs, a croissant, and a fruit cup which he loved. The veggie sandwich was flavourful.
Awesome Eggs Benny... Great service!!
Nice people, Came in when they were closed. Tried their nanaimo bars, and its definitely one of my favorites as it wasn't overly sweet. Very Addicting.
Small portions.....good food but way over priced. A really small piece of torte 7.95...wont be back.
Authentic french pastry. Lunch specials. Good coffee
Great breakfast, pleasant staff
Great food..good service..nice atmosphere
I had the best NANAIMO bar ever... their recipe is out of the Earth, not like any other one I ever had. I am wondering if this guys personalized it somehow or maybe they are the only ones who really follow the original recipe. Anyone can confirm?
First trip to Nanaimo and had to stop in because it looked so cute. Beautiful decor, great latte, service, and delicious nanaimo bar!
Food is delicious!
Delicious!!!
Delicious chocolate croissant and fruit tart, will have to come back for the Nanaimo bars!
Nanaimo bars were less sweet than other places. One of the best in town!
Nice little coffee shop+ Not part of a big chain gives it a more cozy atmosphere
So tasty!!! Everything made from scratch, eggs cooked perfectly, friendly staff, and all around the perfect breakfast to start the day
Got a cappuccino and a nanaimo bar here. The nanaimo bar was the best I've had. The service was very nice and the place is very unique.
Service leaves a lot to be desired. Especially, the one male barista who is consistently rude & seems miserable all the time. It's like being served by the soup guy from Seinfeld. After about half a dozen visits.... I'm just going to stick with Red's across the street. At least there you're greeted with a smile.
Meal type
Perfect spot for breakfast or just a coffee. Love the organic bread as well!!
