This European bakery has a fairly impressive, almost deceptively lengthy array of cakes, baked goods and other treats that goes from simple cookies to marzipan sweets. I say deceptively, because upon further examination, many non-sweet items are located within this wall of display cases, but still you can find many delicious treats... like their poppy seed squares. -- "Mimi's Cake Tour"

Staff are curt and dismissive. When told food is not warm was rudely told “the microwave is over there”. Wasps were inside the food cabinet treading all over the food.

I really appreciate this bakery, excellent baked goods at reasonable prices. Service can be indifferent at times but never unfriendly. There is also a coffee shop that serves excellent soup.

Wonderful bakery, awesome and knowledgeable staff and terrific place to stop for soup and a bun with coffee. I had their Borscht one afternoon and I can honestly say that it took me back to my childhood days with my beloved grandmother's memorable cooking. Absolutely fantastic. Their baked goods are prepared daily and the quality shows. I adore their glazed and sugar dough-nuts, croissants, and many varieties of pretzel bread products. This is the real deal.

We love the Columbia Bakery for the last 12 years of us living on the Island. We drive to Nanaimo every 2-4 months and stock up on their delicious rye bread, their imports from Europe and all the goodies that we are used to. The owners are very accommodating. We request our bread day or two before we come and it is always there, ready. Thank you for your dedication and for bringing a little slice of Germany/Austria/Czech Republic to us! Lovely service too!

Simply amazing... try the vanilla slice or the strawberry tart! Grab something to go or dine in. There is a lot of space to enjoy a sandwich, baked masterpiece and tea or coffee with your friends and family. A Nanaimo gem.

Quality of the food is definitely a 5/5 stars! The staffs attitude brought that down to 4... There's not clear instructions on how the cafe works during the pandemic. I don't know... Might be better to put clear instructions on the door for people.

Went to the bakery for the first time. Was spoken to in a rude manner and then to top it off I open the sandwich I bought for lunch to take out the cheese... and I find a big hair in it. Disgusting . Will not be going back to this bakery. I am very disappointed

It's a beautiful, bright, neat & tidy bakery and neighbourhood cafe serving bakery items, fresh sandwiches, soup, and other goodies. Price v/s portion & quality is reasonable. We can to choose from the counters what we want to eat and pay at the cash counter as there is no service to tables. It's at the SW corner of Bowen and Northfield road. Good place for quick bites and also to meetup with friends for eating occasion.

I have lived in the Nanaimo area for about 18 years (not anymore, back in Europe now), and I have to say, if.you like good bread, pastries, cake... unique European foods as well as friendly service, you will not be disappointed. Everything is top quality, and a real gem to find. Nanaimo can call itself lucky to have this place.

One of the worst customer service ever, one of the employee who has been there for 7 years at Bowen Road has been giving me the most abonxious, arrogrant, terrible communiction ever for the past 7 years. Won't even let me speak or have the owner information regarding business, can only say no 90% of the time, been lying to me what the owners say.

We go here regularly. Old school bakery with a great variety of items both sweet and savory. Usually have 9ne of their awesome meat pies along with a seasonal tart. Right now it is strawberry. We also always take something home for later. They are always busy, and seem to have a loyal customer base. Get there early because stuff sells out. Always clean, but starting to look a little tired.

I bought a dish of Christmas cookies last week for a dinner I was going to & paid $14. I have never been so embarrassed. The cookies all tasted horrible. They tasted stale & could not be eaten. I guess I wont visit you again. My first visit.

Best bread ever! Bread from big box stores, COBS and other bakeries does not stand close to bread made in Columbia bakery. Berliner and Holsteiner are the best breads. Keep up the good job Rolf!
