Five stars means outstanding, unique amid Winnipeg bakeries and I've been there many times. Delicious, simple, and absolutely fresh, of course. Have the German breakfast plate anytime and count on the pumpkin seed loaf. Often a lineup so time your visits. Saturday AM = crazy.

The food was delicious, hence the two stars. Some of the staff were unaccommadating and unfriendly. What really gave this experience a sour taste was being harassed and stared at by another customer with no manners. The experience got to be such that we became extremely uncomfortable and left. Other nearby customers were sympathetic and also felt disturbed by this particular patron's behaviour. We left with grace as this person was a senior, who I am sure would wish to be treated with respect but unfortunately was unable to do likewise. If we were to return we would expect better a friendlier atmosphere.

I consider myself fortunate to live within walking distance of a bakery that is owned and operated by people with a serious passion for bread baking. The nice array of pastries are also quite good, although I find some of them to be wanting a bit more sweetness (and I've tried at least 2/3 of their selection). The reason I'm a return customer is their bread. I recommend getting there early, not just to enjoy bread that still has the warmth and crispness from its recent exit from the oven, but to beat the rush -- when the tables are full of customers who are dining in and there is a queue of people waiting to place their order, the staff can seem rather hurried.

Its by the front door so dont miss it. Tons of different bakings and treats, will have to go for sweets another time.

Apple Cranberry bread is a must...they need to make more when Bread of the Day. Terrific desserts, excellent home made soups, and unbelievably clean. Coffee and Tea need some work, but still a 5 star joint. Have been visiting for years and have never been dissapointed. Pretzel bun sandwiches are also a treat!

When you walk in on a Saturday morning, it is very busy. This is probably due to Crusty Bun having th BEST bread in the city. The pumpkin seed break is too good to pass up and the pastries are out of this world! I'd highly recommend paying a fee extra dollars for some high quality bread. And service is great!

We love this bakery! The farmer's bread is exactly like we buy when we are in Austia! We have a Small German Breakfast every time we go to Crusty Bun and we leave with a Farmers Bread, Seed Buns and some sort of sweet treat. Never had anything I didnt love.

Excellent professional service, they had vegetarian options as well as meat, soup if you don’t eat bread, and delicious pastries. There’s not a huge selection but if you’re looking for simple, fresh ingredients and excellent quality bread, it’s the place for you! I didn’t have the coffee here but maybe next time will try it. But I bought some pastries to take home and they were a hit - super fresh, European-style, flavourful. Also, the place was bustling-busy and I bumped into two other people I knew!

Delicious! I love their buns, sandwiches and pastry. Not the most welcoming with smile kinda place though. Some employees are nicer than others but overall you won't get great service. They will still have tip option, oddly enough because either they don't understand the concept of tip jar that it is for great service or just don't care if they get tipped or not. I usually give 3 stars if service is poor but their stuff is just darn good I have to give 4 stars.

I was recommended from sweet retreat bakery down the street on St.marys. The owner told me you made the best bread. I am a bread person and couldn't believe I had never tried it until yesterday. WOW is all I can say. It was the best sandwhich I had ever eaten. The crusty bun it was on was perfection in each bite. I like to take my mom out for lunch once a week and we both agreed that you have life long customers here.

This is the most delightful bakery/cafe. Very clean, great staff, wonderful and delightful breads, baking that isn't overly sweet but if that is what you want, they have a few options. It's a European style bakery with no donuts, cookies or icing covered cakes. There is a dessert square that is commonly called 'a bees sting' and is a custard filled yeast dough style pastry. I love there rustic style breads and especially the burger/hotdogs buns. A treat everytime. Oh. The coffee is the best.

Attempted to try this place but they ran out of all soup and the schnitzel sandwich we wanted two hours before closing. There isn't much charm to this place with people being cattle herded through with the pick a number system and the setup is too crowded for my tastes. Probably won't bother trying to go back, there are plenty of other great bakeries in the city.

Great place with delicious food and baked goods. Only complaint is their cash register is right beside where they have people wait for food and where the display case is. So often when you are in there looking to select items from the display case, people are crowded around waiting for their orders, which makes it very difficult and annoying to order/pay.

Busy on weekends. Amazing sandwich's. The seed bun sandwich is incredibly good. They really need to get some stantions to help guide customers and improve the ordering process. It's pretty chaotic.

Love this place. Small menu but anything you pick will taste great. Good desserts too. Had soup and sandwich combo. Ordered a couple of loaves of bread to go. Their bread of amazing. Get it sliced on the spot before you go if you prefer not to cut it yourself.

The Artisan 50/50 bread is excellent. The white buns are too dry for my taste. The rye buns are nice. The Bienenstich is a little sweeter than I'm used too, but it is tasty.

My friend and I go here all the time whenever we are feeling hungry for some good pretzels or pastries. Great food, really friendly staff, and a cozy environment. I've never had a bad experience and I used to go every day for a pretzel and a coke to read a book during a spare last year. Amazing establishment and beloved community space. :) <3

Real local gem. Super nice owners, artisanal skills, real care and quality ingredients in everything they make. Get there early as the baked delights fly out the door. The farmer's bread alone is worth crossing the City to buy. The German breakfast is a treat.

The Crusty Bun might just might be my favorite bakery in Winnipeg. Lots of German influences and so fresh. Real JamBusters! Love eating their food. They have bunwiches to go that are delish. So much bread! This is a must try. Great job!

I am a regular at the Crusty Bun and regularly purchase their Raisin Buns. They are expensive but worth it to me as they are always fresh and taste great. Today I got a 6 piece bag of Raisin buns and discovered when I arrived home that they were day old buns. Needless to say I was less than impressed as I paid full price for them as I normally would. lesson learned. Will now ask instead of assuming (which I shouldn't have to do) before buying.

1 star for customer service I received today, Dec 21 at 2:01pm. I've been a regular customer for some years now and that was the worst customer service by far received at Crusty Bun (which usually provides top customer service). Young man wearing glasses didn't bother to be polite or reply to our "thank you". He kept throwing items in the bag and it felt like we were a nuisance (me and my wife). Seems like he had a bad day but that's not a way to treat your loyal customers like that. Very disappointing!

Really good baked goods here. Had a sandwich, a black and white cookie and a glass of milk. The food was awesome. The milk though was a very small glass for the cost and it was on the warm side.
