Ok this is definitely a testament to this bakery. 40 plus years ago I ordered a Birthday cake. I cant even remember for who now. Could have been my sister as I do know she recommended it. Truly was amazed at how good it was. I moved shortly after to Brandon and then to BC. Yet recently when someone asked me where to get a good Birthday cake I instantly recalled Jeanne's even though I hadn't thought of the place in years. Great bakeries really do live on in memories.

My Husband lived just down the street from the Bakery as a youngster Living in Kelowna now we really miss them but never miss the chance to pick one up either in Calgary or when we are back home in Winnipeg Visiting family and friends ????

Poor phone manners... Called for information on Mothers day cake special, was treated poorly by gentlemen with no customer service skills. Put a bad taste in my mouth. Wont be going back ever. Went to buy a cake elsewhere at big box store, oh well, tried to buy local. Jeanne's cake is good, but the attitude is not. Not the first time was treated poorly by this character either. Lost customer(s).

I was really excited to try jeannes cakes because I heard it was a Winnipeg's staple. Firstly, the lady working at the store was so incredibly rude and she could not be bothered to answer our questions or make us feel like customers. Then the cake.... oh boy. It's neither sweet nor have any flavour and the icing tastes artificial almost to the point that it leaves a weird film taste in your mouth. We got the vanilla and banana flavour and could not distinguish which one was which because they were lacking flavours. On top of all that, it was dry. What a disappointment! Will not be going back ever again for the cake and the rude lady working at the bakery. I'd give it zero stars if I could.

I have had Jeannie's all my life and the cake I just had didn't stand up to the standards. The cake itself had more whip cream in the middle than usual which meant less cake. And every piece fell apart. Sorry but this makes me think that there standards are going down. I am very disappointed.

My dad bought birthday cakes from Jeanne’s Bakery from 1945-1955 and a few other years for my sister and myself. I remember the shortbread base(delicious)., the chocolate sides on a square cake(I always tried to get 3 of the 4 corners(lol) & the delicious cake itself with my name on the top and the candles to blow out after I made my wish! I am 77 today and my sister has passed on but my memory of Jeanne’s Bakery birthday cakes still lingers. I live in BRASIL now & nothing could surpass the experience!

We’ve been eating Jeanne’s cakes for years and enjoyed them, but the last two cakes we ordered were a little light on the icing despite asking for extra icing. When you order extra icing you expect extra icing. Where is it? Noting others reviews about the rude clerk answering the phone we too have fallen victim to this person. Take care to order correctly or no cake for you! Update 2021 04 03: We’ve had a red velvet log, very nice. Thanks.

Delicious cakes! Jeanne's cakes are a family favorite. Not a very large selection of pastries but they are experts at what they do. Some of the cakes are offered in grocery stores (Sobey's), but are slightly less expensive and more fresh at the bakery. The bakery is clean. Customer service on the phone while not the best, isn't horrible.

No issues with the actual cake itself, however as I called Jeanne's Bakery to place an order I was met with rude, condescending, and impatient customer service. I was constantly corrected and interrupted, and it was clear the person on the other end was irritated with me, despite this being my first time ordering one of their cakes. Could not even stand to complete the order due to the brash/short responses of the apparent manager. Looking through the reviews, I'm not even the first one to have this complaint, so maybe Jeanne's should consider having someone more pleasant on the phone! It's shameful that that's how they treat customers who are giving them their business.

I never had a Jeanne's Cake until I moved to Winnipeg and my now-fiancé's family gave me one for my birthday. Now I'm a huge fan and firmly in the marble-log-with-chocolate-crinkles camp. Jeanne's cakes evoke strong feelings around here - mainly which variety is best. There IS a right answer. Jeanne's cakes are what we eat to celebrate every birthday and anniversary; we ate one to celebrate 50 years of the family cottage being in the family; we feed them to expat Winnipeggers whenever they visit; we bring them with us when we travel to Alberta; and we make fun of those who don't get why these are such special and delicious cakes. Also can I just say...there's NO CUSTARD, just pure icing separating layers. Brilliant. I hate custard.

Best cakes around, icing is not super sweet and comes with dark chocolate curls. Try the chocolate round cake or the white log cake with strawberry chocolate curls! (My favorites) They are known for their log cakes but my favorite thing from Jeanne's are the shaponica's!

Called on two occasions last week to order two cakes for a family event. First order was placed with Shelley who was so polite, helpful, and friendly. She repeated the order back to me for confirmation and told me when it would be ready, as well as the cost. Second order was placed with Davian and as mentioned by a few other reviewers, he interrupted me as I was placing the order to ask me what flavour of cake. If he had just let me finish what I was saying, I would have gotten to that part. The cakes themselves were a big hit and we hardly had any left over. Will order from here again. (Would have been 5 stars but I don’t appreciate being interrupted while trying to give you my business.)

Jeannes has been in my family since I was a little girl. I'm now turning 61 May 14 and diabetic but it's a must and a tradition for a Jeannes cake. My whole family love them and it has been past down to my sons and grandchildren. Its just not any kind of celebration with out Jeannes. Like I said I'm diabetic now for 9 year but their cakes are soooo good and not sweet I can still enjoy my most favorite cake. Please don't ever go out of business or our families would be lost. We used to love your cakes. We purchased banana with chocolate and marble with coconut flakes for a birthday this past weekend and they were absolutely terrible. The cake itself was dry. The cookie bottom was thin and not like they used to be and the coconut tasted terrible. And to top it off when we called to order, whoever answers the phone is awfully rude. I don't know how you guys are still in business. You have ruined what once was a Winnipeg icon. Will never go back and won't ever recommend this place like I used to.

My friends elderly mother walked 3 blocks (with her cane) and was kicked out of the store because she forgot her mask. (that's the law) However good customer service would have offered her a mask, or she could have brought her the cake to the door where she could have paid in cash. Very disappointed in the attitude of the staff.

We have been going to this place for many years for special occasions, but the quality has decreased over the years to the point that I just bought my last cake. You order the "marble" which is a white cake with very little chocolate thrown in for good measure, the icing is thick and the chocolate shavings on the side are cheap and don’t have a nice taste. On top of the very high price they don’t accept credit card? Really, what century are you living in? Too cheap to give their customers that are paying a premium for their inferior product the courtesy of paying with a credit card, they are too stingy to cover the 2% mark-up. I paid over $50 for a cake that was worth maybe $20, I had to scramble for cash as I don’t live in Canada and don’t have a debit card. It’s a shame but I guess you cant have your cake and eat it too.

What can I say, Jeannes bakery is staple in Winnipeg. Their signature cakes are like no other, whipped icing, cookie bottom and shaved dark chocolate that balances the sweetness. Nearly all birthdays in my household are celebrated with a Jeannes cake. Recently, last Saturday I was picking up a cake to celebrate a belated bday for my sister and a slightly early bday for my late father's best friend. I had ordered the cake in advance, went to pick it up in the morning, was met with friendly staff, property served by a cute young lady, and I was on my way. Nearing my home I was turning up Westwood drive and disaster struck!, a fellow in a Jeep Cherokee Ltd decided to cut in front of me from the shopping center parking lot that resulted in very hard breaking, the cake took flight, bounced off the dash and ended up on the passenger floor well.I got home opened the box to survey the damage, to my surprise the cake was intact!, but had landed top side down so the icing was destroyed, many words were spoken, nearly all were swears. I called the bakery to see if the cake could be repaired or reordered, the manager told me to come down and he'd help me sort it out. I arrived and presented my crash tested cake and the young lady who had served me earlier said its beyond repair, as I reached in pocket for another $20, she had returned to the counter with another cake free of charge. I was at a loss for words, businesses like this make Winnipeg worth living in, thanks to all the staff at Jeannes! Best regards Chris W

I bought one of your Strawberry cakes on Saturday as an early Mother's Day gift for my Mom. I must say it is not one of my favorites from your other flavors I found the strawberry filling almost bitter and the cake not so flavorful all round a big disappointment Will not advise any family member to purchase this.

What is all the fuss about? I had cake #2 today. My first was vanilla, the second was marble. Completely overpriced. The frosting had no flavor and was like eating Crisco or lard. The marble was basically vanilla. I tried to be a good sport and try the variety of squares but they too were overpriced for the size and lacked flavor. Bake your own or go elsewhere.

Jeanne's Bakery... what can I say. There is no better cake in the world. I was born in Winnipeg in 1957 and every Birthday was a Jeanne's Cake. Literally. My birthdays, family members birthdays and friends. Infact any special occasion was a time for Jeanne's Cake. I live in BC now and bring home a minimum 3 cakes on every trip. It's the only item on my carry on. I carry on the tradition with family and friends here. Every person I have met from or has travelled to Winnipeg always talks about Jeanne's Cakes. Ordered a cake for 15-20 serving. The cake was amazing as usual. Can't go wrong with Jeanne's. It's our family's favorite since 1989. Customer service over the phone could be improved though. I understand it can be very busy working at Jeanne's Bakery, but yelling at your customer's over the phone is not something pleasant to deal with as a customer. A little patience goes a long way. Thanks.

Jeanne's is the best place you can get a cake in Winnipeg. I love cakes and pastries and so have tried many other spots. The only other spot that ever gave them any competition has gone out of business a long time ago because the owner went back to his own country. This leaves Jeanne's in the limelight by itself. Regardless what you want the cake for, whether a party, celebration or just for an evening at home in front of the television, it is a Jeanne's cake you want. It's sure to satisfy.

Still one of our all-time favourite cakes! HOWEVER, as noted on other reviews, the person (and I found out it's the manager, Davian?) was extremely rude when he was taking my order over the telephone. This is definitely not the way to retain customers-he was abrupt, argumentative, not pleasant or helpful at all! Sorry to see Jeanne's business run like this after all these years.

I am not sure if the bakery in Winnipeg is different than getting the cakes at a location here in Calgary different but here's what we thought... I had heard good things about these cakes so decided for our son's 19th we would have family over and grab one of these cakes. There was 9 of us and all of us thought the same thing the cake didn't really have a taste to it. It tasted old. I can't understand the hype on these cakes especially for the price.

It has less sugar than most cakes and is light, airy and fluffy with the right amount of density. It has all the favourite flavour''s covered and though I've tried other cakes over my many years, I will always order Jeanne's cakes over all the rest every time. Huge disappointment. These cakes literally have zero flavour. The icing is smooth but as folks mentioned like sweet grease. The cake itself may have had a drop or two of banana extract, but I certainly wouldn’t label it as such. They are extremely overpriced and not worth it. I do feel this is only around because it’s iconic at this point, but doesn’t deserve the hype. I’m grateful we didn’t waste an occasion on this cake, nor serve it to guests. How embarrassing!

What can you say? An absolute Winnipeg classic. Fantastic quality and with a couple of days notice they can bake it any way you want including reproducing any photo im icing on the cake. My mom's birthday wouldn't be complete without their individual marble cakes for everyone.

For several years now, I’ve noticed that you use a different recipe for the cakes, I’ve tried the white, chocolate, Marble, and banana, what ever you have done, you have destroyed jeannies cakes. Bought a marble log for a birthday and decided to buy 3 pieces of single serving chocolate mocha squares. They were horrible, so bland and absolutely no flavour. Not even the icing had any zip. Do not waste your money on purchasing them. Can only hope the marble log tastes better. Very disappointed as I was always a strong supporter of their bakery.
