We've got all the information of people who consumed the products and services of Baked Expectations (Bakery) in the area close to Manitoba (Canada).
Right now the business receives a score of 4.1 out of 5 and that score was based on 127 reviews.
As you can see it has an average rating is really good, and it is based on a very high number of feddbacks, so we may be quite sure that the valuation is very reliable. If people have bothered to value when they've done well with the service, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to set evaluations when they are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Bakery belongs to the category of Dessert restaurant.
Cute place. Good service, depending on the time of day you go it could be empty or busy. Pretty good food/ deserts, however just overpriced in my opinion. Sizes are small for what you are paying for and I've been there a few times, and it has become less of a place we would want to choose because of how much you pay and how much you actually get.
Inside has been updated since I was last here, looks nice. Brightens the place up. Cheese cake is still great, tried salted caramel and was delicious.
Completely displeased! There was a woman employee standing in the corner, not working, not doing anything, and staring at our table the entire time. Arms crossed and a snotty look on her face. Woman behind the counter was rude about not knowing the soup of the day. Waitress wasn't too pleasant. Need new employees! Or a workshop to work on customer service!
The food is pretty good.. .BUT, when all you want is an order of french fries and all you get is a very small bowl for $5.25, you feel ripped off. You are better off to order a Thai chicken wrap for $10.95 which comes with as many or more fries. The fries are highway robbery. ..McDonalds is better value for fries.
Excellent deserts and generous portions... I tried the Shmoo Torte it was really really tasty... its a traditional desert in Winnepeg and I think this place is highly recommended... the cherry cheese cake was also amazing... however, payment is only cash or debit which is quite annoying and repulsive.. also the Chai latte was way below average... for the first time ever I could not finish a drink ive ordered...
Sadly baked expectations has become inconsistent with service, quality and serving sizes. I ordered the last slice of chocolate mousse cake only to find out they cut the last piece in half and sent me home with that. I feel like I paid 10 dollars for a soggy chocolate bar and mediocre service…
One of my favorite places in the city. Great food and treats for any time of day. Friendly and helpful staff all the time, I come every time I'm in Winnipeg.
Friendly staff, quick service, delicious cake, good drinks!
We came here tonight to feed two six-year-olds cake for supper for an birthday treat for one of them. The staff was delighted by the oohs and aahs from the boys over the case full or gorgeous cakes and pies and were entirely on the ball regarding how to deal with them. We had a warning about the draft at the first table we chose, paper and markers to colour with before we even sat down and so much patience with our two squirrelly dudes as they settled in and picked which cake they wanted. I think the one they both chose was the slayer cake. It was incredibly sweet but insanely good and came out with a candle and a rousing singing of happy Birthday for the birthday kid. I went with the mocha torte and it was delicious. The very serious and mature male adult with us couldn’t handle having cake for supper so he went with a chilli burger and fries. He says the fries were really good and the burger was okay. Not the best he’s ever had but not bad. By the end of our visit we were wrangling a pair of excitement and sugar fuelled tornados. Staff were quick to provide us with take out boxes for unfinished chocolate cakes and slices of cheesecake to go for adults too mature to join the fun. Overall was a wonderful experience and we will be doing it again. Edited to add: cheesecakes were German chocolate and peanut butter chocolate chip. Both were heavenly.
Middling desserts for the price you pay. Decor straight out of the “after” part in a Kitchen Nightmares episode with gaudy faux Cali hipster wants to be a diner checkered floor and hideous red lighting (Seriously? “Get Baked At Work”? Inane.) You could do better if you were really hunting for a revolutionary dessert experience.
Always friendly and helpful staff. Their social media is great for keeping customers informed especially during ongoing pandemic changes.
OMG It was awesome. I had the hazelnut Pavlov cake a d my friend indulged in the chocolate salted caramel cake. To die for. Our server was fantastic. Ty
A personal favourite of mine. Staff here are polite but I wish they would be more personable. As this is famous mostly for its amazing dessert, it would be great to feel that unique/professional sweetness from its staff. It would make the experience all the more appealing and worth looking forward to:)
A fun place I need to remember to visit more often! Always great servers and a large selection of desserts (and other food/appetizer items!)—the only thing I don’t like is having to decide! ;)
We went to meet a wedding vendor there and absolutely loved their atmosphere and location. It's difficult to find parking but that was expected considering it's location on Osborne. The service was very good, and we had their Shmoo Torte recommended to us by our vendor and it was great! Very light with amazingly good caramel and whipped icing. We also had mentioned that you can purchase cakes from them as well and they have their menu online to check out. I would recommend this bakery to friends and family in a heart beat!
One of the best bakery in town. I used to frequent this place before the pandemic and it was one of the most lively places that used to stay open till 2am. Sadly the pandemic has slowed this place down too like everything else. …
Yummy cheesecakes and dessert. Clean place and friendly staffs. Does not offer credit card payments. Either debit or cash only. Restaurant was clean. Cute retro vibe. Does not have private parking. It's hard to get parking all the time takes forever to find one since street's always busy. Have a waiting time since they're always busy.
Really fun diner vibe and super stylish. Large menu selection and good for kids as well as adults. Generous portions and good coffee and pie/cake. Overall a fun place to a get a nice dessert and a coffee or a meal. The ratio of foam to coffee could be better in the cappuccino, and the chocolate salted caramel cheesecake is top notch.
A Winnipeg institution. If someone says let’s go somewhere for a dessert and coffee chances are you’ll end up here. Decadent desserts and a vibrant energetic feel. Can’t go wrong.
If you need to buy a last minute cake, don't waste your time here. I needed a cake for a list minute birthday get together, so I came here. They wouldn't let me buy a whole cake, I had to buy by the slice. You have to call in to pre order for a cake, no where on their website does it say this.
From their fresh fruit to their fabulous fries, Baked Expectations was a worthwhile visit, but failed to meet my Expectations. Before I begin, I have to mention that I did arrive around 10:30pm about an hour before closing, and my experience could be a matter of circumstance. Firstly, my companions and I were greeted with an uninterested server, he presented us with the menu but he looked like he wanted to shoot himself. To his credit he did provide us with the appropriate employee-customer etiquette, just while frowning the entire time. Once we ordered most of the dishes we requested were unavailable and the waiter seemed confused about whether or not the dishes we wanted were actually still there or not. The food took unusually long to get to us. The Burger we ordered was tiny although the fries were fantastic. The desserts were quite delicious although, their best dishes were not available. The overall aesthetic was appealing. With their retro 70s inspiration. In conclusion, aside from the staff and portion size, it was a decent experience.
This place is amazing! Lots of new and good cake to try. But if you want a variety of drinks then this place doesn't have much.
The service isn't the best, but the cakes and pies are really great. A crazy number of options, and all generally taste good. The coffee is good as well, and the staff is friendly but overcharged as the place seem to be always crowded and there are not many waiters.
We went there for afternoon dessert. The coffee was good and the cakes were very good. We had dark chocolate cheesecake and coconut cream pie. They were well made, not too sweet, not too greasy, they were just right. We're very happy.
???? ‘’Baked Expectations’’. To my opinion, hands down the best cake shop for me in Winnipeg at Osbourne village. The cakes tasted amazingly soft and creamy. Being a Cheesecake & Torte lover myself I couldn’t help but take a few slices of the different irresistible cakes! While there are many options from Caramel Pecan, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip Cheesecake, German Chocolate, Oreo Cookie, Apple Bavarian Cheesecake, Cherry Royale and the list doesn’t stop...my personal two favorites are the ‘Shmoo Torte’ which had angel food cake with lots of pecans, loads of whipped cream and tons of caramel sauce! And you can also get extra caramel sauce to go along with it if you desire. And the other - Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake which had mocha cream sandwiched between thin chocolate layers and was topped with whipped cream! The presentation of all the cakes in this shop here are just awesome! Overall I would definitely say this place is a must visit if you’re here in Manitoba. It surely exceeded way beyond my expectations! ????????????
Friendly and very efficient staff. Great cakes, a bit overpriced. Great place for those with a curious mind and a very sweet tooth :)
Went there with 2 kids (under 12) to get some dessert. Was told by the hostess we couldn't sit inside and eat as dine in wasn't available. She says this as I am looking at 2 different tables with people. I ask again and she again says no dine in. I point out the people very clearly dining in and she just repeats it again. We had to sit outside where only 2 chairs are and one kid had to sit on the ground to eat her cake. Ridiculous.
Always amazing. We wanted to eat inside because the coffee is also great but every table was dirty and they appeared to be under staffed. A normal problem these days ????. Highly recommended!
Easily the best cakes in Winnipeg. Worked there for a year many years ago and the owner uses quality ingredients. She checks flavor and consistency often. Many people complain about her but she has been in business for 35 years or more. She is tough because she has standards. Highly recommend her cakes and pies.
Cakes are amazing! I highly recommend the Apple cheesecake (get the caramel drizzle) and the chocolate cake. The food here is also delicious. A fave for me and my work colleagues. If you don’t like very busy diners, I recommend ordering your goodies to go as it tends to get busy quickly.
sweet cakes milky latte with cinamon plus sugar on the table definitely the sweetest
Dessert is always great. But this last time both the espresso and cappuccino we ordered were not very warm and the entire restaurant was cold (on a cold day ????)
My first time here and I decided to try the Tia Maria Torte (the one with layered cookies).... this was amazing and delicious. The staff are so friendly and nice, even when it was super busy. Definitely coming back (:
Always amazing. We wanted to eat inside because the coffee is also great but every table was dirty and they appeared to be under staffed. A normal problem these days ????. Highly recommended!
Incredible selection of high quality baked cakes and deserts. Food is good too! Serving staff is pretty cool. Coffee is good too.
If you love desserts, this is your place!
I love it here! My go to place to get cake! Plus they're open until 12 am so it's perfect for when my friends and I have late night munchies. You can do dine in or take out, it's usually quite busy so we get take out. Staff are friendly and personable and get your food to you quickly. Very efficient place. Gone so many times I've met the manager/owner? she's also very nice and it's good to see her working with the customers
They don't take credit card. We couldn't buy anything and left. How awkward! I know the desserts are good since a friend of mine has bought some for me in the past. That was why I stopped by for a birthday treat for my sister. But we left disappointed. Even small market vendors take credit cards, this is a bad business choice for Baked Expectations.
Solid Cake place. Favorites are the Tia Marie, cinnamon torte, mocha torte and the schmoo. The first 3 cakes I feel baked does the best in the city. Environment is like a diner. It's a cute atmosphere. I forgot to take pictures tonight though...
Love the chill fries and triple decker. Portion size was a little small this time though. Don't care for any of their cakes either. I find the cakes too dense, tend to be dry, and over priced.
If you are wanting a great dessert, this is the place to go to! We have eaten here on a couple of occasions and it lives up to the "expectations" every time. The triple decker cheese sandwich is delicious and the options and assortment of desserts is crazy! It is a very friendly restaurant with a nice, low-key vide! Highly recommend trying Baked expectations!
Some of the best cheesecake in town. The only downside is they run out of the good ones around 930pm and its very busy. Parking is also a bit tough to find sometimes!
Best place for a coffee and dessert kind of date, or even just a casual spot for lunch or dinner (and dessert). Excellent hot drinks and the best cakes ever!
I have lived Winnipeg for many years & never been to BE until this past Tuesday evening. It was everything I’ve heard ‘n more. I was having a hard time to decide which dessert to have. I kept flipping between two. I settled on Oreo Cheese Cake while my friend chose Salted Carmel ???? along with a Pink Lemonade to drink. I was amongst give clouds with my first taste. I took my time each bite to enjoy the flavour to the late bite. This will not be my last visit. Who wants to go with me. Cheers I love the drawing on the windows. That’s a cool & personal tounch. This place was busy ‘n at one point there was a line-up to get seated.
Went in and had an extremely rude and unreasonable front counter cashier. After getting yelled at for asking "when abouts our group would get a table" we walked out. BUT! The Manager Carlos came running outside in the freezing cold in a tshirt and made sure we ended our experience with Baked Expectations on a great note. Carlos, you made a bad experience into a great one, thank you.
I paid over $17 for two pieces of cake and they crammed them into ONE box. By the time I got home they were both squished and half ruined. You think that for the price they could have packaged them well.
Great experience, very friendly staff. Delicious cakes!!!
I had an obsession with clubhouses when I was a teenager and ate them all over Canada. I found hands down, out of all the ones I’d tried travelling, Baked Expectations has The best clubhouse and fries I’ve ever had... and the desserts are obviously on another level of delicious.
I have only been here twice. But from what I have experienced, this place is a dream. The restaurant itself is a super cute 80s diner style, and would be the cutest place to take someone on a date. As far as the food goes, it's also to die for. I like my cheesecake, so i've only purchased cheesecake from here, but boy is it delicious. Not to sweet, Not too bitter, I would declare it perfect. Call me plankton because I want that secret formula!!!
We used to love this place, been going here for 30 years, Now we will never go back again. They have a great selection and yummy desserts, but make you feel bad for trying to give them business. Went with a group of 16 people and it was like we were inconveniencing them being there, I felt bullied by who looked like the lady in charge. She was sitting other tables while we didnt have enough seats for our group, she wouldn't stop and talk to me.. it was badd. It was the worst service I have ever received in winnipeg. It was my kids sweet 16, so I paid $200 for 16 people for cake and coffees, got the worst service ever and they added a $35 mandatory tip. Shameful how this place is going downhill. I would always bring new people to Winnipeg here, never again. I did message them to speak with the owner but it's been over a week and haven't heard back. If I was the owner, I'd want to know when people are personally running my business into the ground. I wish I could give zero stars. So disappointed in how I was treated, I hope nobody else gets this kind of treatment.
Always the best pies and torts. Love the patio in the summer and service is great.
3.5 Penne pasta with artichokes etc. served with garlic toast. 4* Bowl of cappuccino. 2.5* non moist choc cake with whipping creme layers with pieces of strawberries and a whole strawberry & solid chocolate sheet on top of cake. Attentive staff
Love visiting! The food is delicious and of course the cakes are amazing. The prices are good and the whole vibe is nice. I love how many options there are and the fries are a must.
fast service...open late is a plus, not much selection
The selection was very underwhelming. Won't return.
Normally our go-to dessert house, we were super disappointed at the service last night. A rare Friday in, I decided to take both my kids for some dessert, we arrived around 8:20 to meet each table with old dishes and the a lady grunting behind the counter saying they are no longer seating tables. Alas we stood in the take out line. We ordered a piece of cake and were told they were out of any time of latte, as we continued to wait for the cake, the disgruntled women behind the counter continued to rudely address patrons in the line and never filled our order(Normally the staff is so pleasant, so this took me by surprise) Instead of confronting the lady and upsetting my kiddos I decided to just leave as i didn’t see any attempts of her getting our order ready. As soon as we walked outside my 4 year old kid said “mommy I feel angry bc that lady was mean” In a city full of bakeries, I hope you start to treat your customers with the fun loving attitude you used to have before you start loosing more. Btw we drove from the south of the city specifically to dine here, we won’t make that mistake again
Fabulous cakes. It's fun to buy a bunch of different slices for special occasions. They are open late which is great. The old school diner feel is a fun experience!
Best cake ever in Winnipeg. Highly recommended. Price is lil high but worth it. We got chocolate strawberry cake $70.
Amazing deserts, expensive but they are huge slabs and you can taste the quality you're paying for. Haven't had any hot eats from there yet.
The only bad thing is making a decision. They are all so yummy!
We went to Baked Expectations for dinner on September 15 at 7:00pm. It was an all-around disappointing experience, especially since we usually have great food and service there. I ordered a glass of white wine, my companion ordered a latte. The latte was brought to our table with a glass of water, and our server (J) very unapologetically said they were out of white wine. He did not offer another alternative or ask if I'd like anything else. Simply placed the water in front of me and walked away. I ordered the linguine with tomatoes, garlic and basil ($11.95) and my companion ordered a chicken salad sandwich ($9.25). My linguine was the most pitiful portion , barely even half a (small!) bowl of cooked “boxed” pasta, garnished with an unripe tomato and basil that was chopped FAR too long before being placed on my dish (it was brown). There were perhaps 3-4 shreds of parmesan on top. The accompanying garlic toast was an equally small portion, approximately half a slice of a baguette (I understand restaurant mark-ups on food, but seriously, my meal would have cost them less than $2. It was ridiculous how small the serving was. I thought I had ordered off a children’s menu). By comparison, my companion received a THICK sandwich with a massive portion of fries. The waiter returned to our table once, and when he asked how our food was, I looked him right in the eye, shrugged and said, "Meh, it's okay, I guess." If I were a server, that would be my cue to ask the patron how I could make it better! Can I get you something else? Would you like to speak to the manager? Nope, nothing out of J. Yes, I could have complained more vocally, and in retrospect I am sorry I didn’t. But my displeasure could not have been more obvious. It will be a long time before I return to BE. Other restaurants/cafes have desserts (and service!) that are equally as good, if not better.
I will occasionally come here for sweets. I try not to come here due to the fact that every person I have met who worked here says that the owner treats her staff like crap. It is no wonder thay most of the complaints on google relate to customer service; The turnover rate is so high!
We love to come here - either for a date, or with the whole family. The prices are good, the food is amazing and the cakes are simply delicious. I love the retro feel to the dining room too.
Enjoyed my grilled cheese sandwich. Cozy place to eat. The inside has been redone. The only downside is parking on Osborne.
It has been my favorite place for 3 years, never been disappointed. I love my munchies best cheese cakes in the Manitoba. The staff is very friendly and professional.
They've been around for 35 years and consistently provide delicious desserts. While I've never ordered a meal from here, I have seen other patrons eat their meals and they do look good. Half of their dessert menu include cheesecakes, and the other half: cakes and tortes. They do meringue really well; their Pavlova and hazelnut meringue are amazing! My only comment is theur desserts have remained unchanged in decades. Maybe they can offer a different special for a limited time. It might draw more people in, especially those who haven't gone in a long time.
I called a day in advance to order a cake, the man on the phone said I had to call back the next day. Called back the next day and I was told I had to call a day in advance and that there were no cakes available ????????♀️. I was given an extra slice of cake as an apology
Great experience at Baked every time, cake is always perfect and the staff are always friendly, so grateful they are still working on the front lines during this emergency!
Yuck. The place is way too overrated. The staff attitudes are unacceptable, a total turn off! They have the same old flavors. JUST BORING and nothing new and exciting.
We had three seperate deserts and they were all AMAZING. always fresh and unique deserts.
Hands down one of my favourite dessert restaurants in Winnipeg. The service is always fast and polite while the desserts are always fresh and quality made. Their regular food menu is also surprisingly delicious!
Baked expectations is one of our favourite spots. We usually have the same server when we go; Carlos is super attentive and always has a friendly smile on his face. Great service and great food!
A local favorite for coffee, and dessert! Awesome cheesecakes and other desserts, consistent quality every time you go. They offer a wide selection of coffee, tea, and other drinks, and also have a wide food menu. Usually open late so if you need a place to meet a friend for coffee, or want to get some dessert after going out for dinner, this is the place!
Always have a ton of choices for dessert! I love to pick up a piece of cake at night for the nexts days snack. Their food is also really good so don't plan on going just for the cake. Thought you could find cheaper food else where.
Overpriced. Didn't have the only thing I wanted. So loud my friend and I went hoarse talking to each other. Ended up texting each other. Children crying. Loads of racket and it echos all over due to the acoustics. Just way too loud and crowded. Way too loud. Way way too loud. Pounding music. Can't hear myself think.
Oh man!!! Still a stellar place. We got here very late at night, midnight or so after dinner down the road- and they served us what was left - amazing to take away the yummiest cakes. They have us generous portions and made the night perfect. If you get a chance to you should visit and get some cake ????????????
I have lived Winnipeg for many years & never been to BE until this past Tuesday evening. It was everything I’ve heard ‘n more. I was having a hard time to decide which dessert to have. I kept flipping between two. I settled on Oreo Cheese Cake while my friend chose Salted Carmel ???? along with a Pink Lemonade to drink. I was amongst give clouds with my first taste. I bought red velvet cake yesterday, this cake is superb so tasty, very soft and creamy. Am loving it and I will keep coming. Thank you Cake expectations.
B.E log #45: I was finally able to see the bottom of their bottomless latté mug. The food is good as well. Cakes are so good Flo-rida wrote a song about them... I think.
Ordered once. Fair price, good quality. The cake looks beautiful.
Awful service! They didn't give us a table for 6 people. We were waiting for the server for 30 min! And they just ignored us. When we asked what happened why we are still waiting and other people who were in the line behind us were already eating, the server's reply was very rude and we were really upset and left that place. Definitely don't recommend this place!
We've only ever gone for dessert but they are usually great. The place is a bit dated and could use sprucing up but the cakes are reliably delicious.
Horrible service! Last night I went for my 3rd time and decided I’m never going back. The waitress and hostess were very rude. My friend ordered fries and they tasted bad, when he asked to give them back and have his money back they questioned him and didn’t believe him. They messed up all of our orders on the bill, they were too lazy to split an 8 person bill so some people ended up paying more or less... Overall just a bad experience.
Desserts excellent. Dinner. Not so much. Don't get me wrong. The food was good. Just not to the expectations of the desserts. Also found out they are open til midnight during the week and 1am on the weekends!
Great aesthetic. I had a club sandwich and a slice of chocolate cherry cheesecake. I couldn't finish any of it because of the serving size and the cake is very rich. Would have given a 5 star but service kept leaving our table unattended. We waited for our bill for nearly 8 minutes and it wasn't an excessive rush.
If you're into desserts - this is the place for you! Five and 6 layer cakes of all kinds plus the highest pies I've ever seen - amazing variety of desserts. All complimented by 50's diner style decor and a great food menu with lots of variety. This is a place my friends and I are sure to return to each time we visit in Winnipeg.
How did I not post a review of this place sooner? I've lived in Winnipeg for five years and Baked Expectations has maintained its position in the upper echelons of the definitive Winnipeg culinary experience. You've got BDI (Bridge Drive-In), Baked Expectations, and... well those are the top two places to stop by if you want a superb dessert. Baked is open all-year round and serves a massive variety of cakes and one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches. Loaded with cheese. Not too greasy, but definitely satisfies that craving. Served with fries. Mmph. Now the cakes; you can expect them to be baked. And baked well they are! Gotta love the selection of homemade cakes you cannot find elsewhere. Cheese cakes, tortes, chocolate, fruits... it's all there. The prices are a bit high, but are they really? When you think of the selection of cakes, the location in Osborne Village, the history of service, maybe these cakes are a steal of a deal. Some might love the retro charm of the interior, and I feel its charm. But I do not love it. I wish that the interior was a bit warmer / cozier. That's a personal thing, and for the appeal that the interior is going for, they ace it. Definitely check out Baked Expectations if you are in Winnipeg and in the mood for cake. Otherwise, I might recommend elsewhere as my favorite part about Baked is the variety, not necessarily the taste.
Great meals and fantastic desserts. The staff is terrific. The recent renovations look really good and give the place nice updated look yet retains its classic charm. A great way to end a night out. Oddly though, they only accept cash and debit cards. Credit cards are not accepted here.
I get it's pandemic and all... but not very pleasant experience. Person kept barking at me to stay on stickers which is a 3+ ft away from the window shelf with cakes (so quite hard to see something from that distance). However other person in the store who was helped by another employee at the store was ok to get right to the window with cakes and shop comfortably... was I wrong gender or color to be treated the same? Again, I understand it's no dine in, but shouldn't be washroom to be available to clients since the place sells food and drinks? They did not let me use it. And with medical reason for frequent and urgent bath access requirement , thanks to Baked Expectations for painful evening.
Always love coming here! sometimes it can be a bit busy, and they don't always have everything on the menu in-stock but usually theres a second option that tastes just as great!
After a very disappointing experience at a restaurant nearby, we came here for dessert and wished we had eaten here instead! The menu is written on the walls which was fun. This place is not just desserts either - you can eat a full meal. Top notch and we will be going back!
I had the apple pie. The portion was large but the crust was not crispy. It was packed with thin slices of apple bit the flavor was missing.
I went on a Friday night, which is always busy. Despite this we were quickly seated, and soon provided with a menu. We only had the dessert - chocolate banana pie for me and carrot cake for him. The portion sizes are huge, and can easily be shared between two people (perhaps this is intentional). The chocolate banana pie is good, although the whipped topping is overkill and the Oreo crumble crust isn't the best. The carrot cake is phenomenal, with a healthy layer of cream cheese icing I'll definitely be back.
I absolutely love it here. the cakes are devine and so is their other food! Clean and comfortable with friendly staff. it's a little expensive but worth every penny! very enjoyable.
It's always a great stop. The food is delicious. A little pricier but it makes up for it in sizing. A dessert or easily shared by two.
This place has wonderful and tasty cakes. The reception is a bit confusing and you kinda have to figure out everything yourself. They leave your spoon on the table and not on a plate which didn't seem clean. One obvious thing about this place is the noise. It's a social and live environment but not proper for people looking for a quite and focused time. Price is fine and decent.
What a playground for the sweet of tooth. I Was going to eaty way through it. But my wife said start with one and work you way up from there. So we had the chocolate chip soaked in coffee liquor and milk and lemon cheesecake and a strawberry cheesecake to take home. The service was prompt, the cakes were OMG good. They also serve bergers and other foods. Well worth the stop.
The staff is friendly and the food is amazing but quite pricey. Expect to pay as much for your dessert as you do for a full meal... but it's worth it.
Gargantuan desserts meet huge taste at Baked Expectations! An easy to miss taste sensation off of Osborne St that never fails to deliver. Having been here numerous times I have yet to manage to walk away with anything less than delight and a full belly. I only wish we had a place like this in Ottawa. I encourage you to visit for the desserts. It will meet all your baked expectations.
Terrible service, the staff was very rude. We arrived as a group of four. After ordering, some people we knew came in and asked to sit next to our table. The staff proceeded to claim we were a larger group, thus forcing us to pay a 15% gratuity on our bill in a very rude tone. When we tried to explain that running into people does not make us a group together, they would not change their mind and spoke down on us. We decided to leave. Awful experience. Will not return.
Their red velvet is the best! Great place for dessert, busy on weekends but pretty quiet weeknights. Good place to go to satisfy your sweet tooth.
I am unimpressed that you don’t update your website to say you are closed the day before Canada Day. It’s great that you want to give your team time off but in this modern world you should keep your website up to date with extra news like that. Your location is not easy to get to and parking is a nightmare. If I’m going to take the time to check your website before I visit . Then you should take the time to update your website. It’s not very hard. I do it at my job every day. Even Google says you’re open! Figure it out.
From this place I purchased the worst cake I have ever tasted. I purchased what is called a "Slayer" cake. It was super dry and hard. I can't believe they charged me $45 for this. This was the first and the last time I purchased anything from this restaurant. I wouldn't trust them with a cup of water.
I never get tired of coming here. I love the atmosphere and can always try something new. I original tried the Chocolate Banana Pie which had a big lard taste to it but was okay tasting but this Lemon pound cake was to die for as well as the coconut cream pie if you want something lighter to eat????
Very very nice place, great design and it has a variable cake choices. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The place is full and people are waiting in a long line to get it. Cakes are delicious- food is prepared in front of you. (Food isn’t good as the cakes) . Parking is an issue in Osborne. But definitely a place to have a good cake and coffee.
Great desserts but I found the music too loud.
I really enjoyed the cakes at baked expectations. It is a very well known and popular spot for dessert. The pavlova, hazelnut cake and the cinnamon torte were absolutely delicious. I haven't tried all of the them but I don't think you could go wrong with cake.
This is our to go to when we are craving for Sweets, their tortes HAZELNUT MERINGUE is our favorite, we even order a take out. The Chili with Garlic Toast is the best that I've tried so far!
Amazing cakes of course! My favourite is the red velvet. But don't discount their regular menu, I had a lox bagel that was really good as well! I find it's very difficult to get service at the counter, plenty of staff around, but nobody focused on taking customer orders, so you may be standing at the front for a while.
So many options for different needs! Brought a birthday cake for my gf and she loves it. But it’s my fault to break the cake on the way home when I left it in the trunk ????????♂️
A little over priced in my opinion. Good deserts if you feel like paying the price. Seems a little shady that they only take cash or debit probably so it's untraceable at tax time.
Decent food, tasty desserts, but service was really slow. Also they don’t take credit cards which is a turn off for us because we like to collect points!
Always went here to enjoy some desserts but the most recent trip to this restaurant we were treated like garbage. To utensils being thrown across the table to us instead of being handed to, race discrimination as the waitress had a complete attitude change when she assisted other customers, asked for boxes and received paper bags, went and asked again for boxes to receive a box off a table that another customer had left behind, dirty, and broken. The waitress questioned our order and rolled her eyes when we told her what we wanted and mocked what we were ordering by saying it incorrectly on purpose or sarcastically. When we questioned one of the strawberries looking moldy to the waitress she said it looked like blueberry yet when i tried to scrape it off it wouldn't budge and was for sure mold. She then went to her coworkers and proceeded to laugh and talk about us as if we weren't standing right in front of them. I do not understand how a local company can treat their customers like that. I typically do not care much about customer service but the service I experienced today was ridiculously. I was also blocked on their instagram account for leaving a comment about my experience. They did not reach out to apologize or ask about my experience but just blocked and deleted my comment. The women that was serving us was completely rude for no apparent reason. I basically paid to be treated poorly. When I explained the situation to the person at the till they did nothing, not even apologize for this waitresses actions. Goes to show how well this company treats their customers. Save your money and take your business else where.
No amount of great food can keep a customer if the service team members make you feel unwanted. After 3 years, I decided to come back to Baked Expectations hoping I would have a different experience. Never again!
Ordered delivery through skip the dishes, which was delayed and I think contributed to the status of my burger, which was soggy. Otherwise it was great, fries held up ok. No salt or pepper or ketchup tho :(. Got a cheesecake which was delicious!!! And a pink lemonade which will be mixed with sparkling wine.
Their prices are thru the roof.
Good atmosphere but very loud and crowded. Too sweet , and water tasted funny. Not worth the bang for the bucks in my family's opinion. Would like to see maybe a sampler of a few smaller pieces on one plate. Just an idea
More known for their desserts, I had one of their breakfasts and it was just as good. Service was pleasant as well as quick. I'll go there anytime for breakfast. When going there I had not known they served things other than dessert. Good lesson learned.
Absolutely, hands down, the best desert option in the village. Normally around 30 prepared options of cakes, pies and other delicacies. The rest, however, is a bit overpriced and underwhelming. It's not that the food is "bad", just not good enough to warrant the price. Do yourself a favour - come for the deserts, stick to the deserts, and you won't regret it.
Baked Expectations was an institution in Osborne Village. A must visit destination. Not any more! Waaay too expensive, and the cakes aren't what they once were. Unless things change, it wouldn't surprise me if it disappeared from the village like so many other great places. Papa Georges? Dutch Made Ice Creme?
Favourite date night (or midday) spot for sure! They've got a super cute diner vibe while not being rundown or dirty looking. Always full in a pleasant "I'm not the only one here" way. One incredibly nice server knows our order by heart, he even remembers our drinks of choice! Speaking of would recommend the triple decker grilled cheese, you can add bacon but even without it it lasts me two meals that are vegetarian.
The cakes are delicious, the customer service was phenomenal - I’m so thankful to the employee who served us our cake for cutting us an amazing deal, super nice, thank you for being a delightful and sweet end to our trip to Canada!
Normally when I come here it's just but I've never had a slow server but this time it was moderately busy and our server took 30 minutes to get us 3 slices of cake we watched her stand behind the counter what we got wasn't the best cake which is odd because we love eating cake here. At least it looked good.
Cake was okay but it feels like the prices have gone up while the portion has gotten smaller. Who doesn't accept credit cards? When I mentioned my bank charges me to use my debit the lady had the nerve to say credit card companies charge her money to use them. At 10 freaking dollars a slice I'm sure you can afford to pay for a CC option. She didn't care when I mentioned I'd take my business elsewhere. Time to take our business back to Goodies. Better cake, better price and credit cards are an option. Terrible customer service.
such a cute place to hang out with friends and enjoy really good food! all their dessert are absolutely amazing!!
The cheesecakes here are simply sensational with so many options to choose from along other cakes and tortes. The serving size is more than adequate. I tried the salted caramel hot chocolate and it was amazing! The lineups might be a little long on peak times but it is for sure worth it!
Always love the food and desserts here. The cakes and pies are always fresh in the taste and in its creativity ! It has a great atmosphere for dates and even for justing hanging with friends or family. It's always a pretty chill space to be in when it's not the busier hours. I also enjoy how late it's open, it's easier to make plans that way. I would give it 5 stars if it had a more accessible and updated bathroom as well as friendlier staff.
The most mind-blowing cakes and pies you will ever see and taste. I especially love the mocha torte! Environment is quite quirky, so it's all around a great experience.
One of the best bakeries/cafes in Winnipeg for sure. Amazing cakes, and the food is super delicious too! A little more on the pricier side, but well worth it!
The food is bad. The baked goods are great. The service is usually good. Its overpriced if you ask me, and sometimes the place smells like a sewer. Ive also had lots of friends who have worked there and they say theyre treated like slaves. Apparently the owner has the personality of a teenage spoiled brat and doesnt care about any of her employees at all. She will also fire people for no reason, dont believe me..? Go and ask anyone who works there lol
The food was great, had a triple decker grilled cheese. The fries were very crispy. The desserts looked amazing but I was too full to try some cake or pie.
Attended here for the first time in a while for a dinner before a movie. I had the Grilled Cheese with bacon and my wife had the Thai Chicken wrap, while my parents each had the Potato/Leek soup which came with a piece of toast. Both sandwiches came with fries. For dessert, we shared a slice of lemon cheesecake and the salted caramel chocolate cheesecake. The food was enjoyed by all with no complaints on the portion size or quality. The cheesecakes, as per past experiences, were divine and very generous. My dad was afraid that the salt may overwhelm the cheesecake but that was not the case and it was finished down to the last bite. We were glad we only ordered two to share amongst 4 persons. Total bill including 1 coffee and tip came to $67.00.
Excellent cake and fabulous costumer service. I got the pavlova and my boyfriend got the schmoo torte. Both were absolutely delicious. 10/10 would eat again!
Last time I went I was quite disappointed by the portions compared to the price. Most other dessert venues offer portions that seem to justify what is being paid and I didn't feel that was the case on my last visit. Great food, good atmosphere, not very good service. I won't be going again any time soon.
I've been here many times over the years! Most times to enjoy a piece or 2 of their delicious oversized in house made desserts. I've tried probably almost every dessert they offer at one time or another! I dont think I've tried one I didnt like! The options are endless and there is always something there for everyone to enjoy. The slayer cake and oreo cheesecake are my top 2 favourites! I gave this place 4 stars because when I've come here to eat a hot meal the odd time, the service seems to lack a little and their hot food is not near as good as their dessert menu!!! This is an iconic place in Winnipeg! Many memories for people were made here! Who has not had a first date here at some point in their life????
Omg. So many choices, so many amazing flavors. The coffee is great, service top notch. A real MUST go when in Winnipeg. I don't even like sweets and I would give this place a 7 out of 5 if I could
Sandwich was a little scant for filling and had to brush the crumbs off chair prior to sitting, although I find the crumbs on chair issue far too often at alot of restaurants but not sure why. Service was fine, wasn't very busy today. Sadly not sure if I'd return anytime soon.
I have never seen a more finer collection of cheesecakes in all my god-given days.
the tia maria cake is amazing and everyone is super friendly. the atmosphere is so cute and the decor makes you feel right at home.
These are by far some of the finest cakes in the city. When entering you are greeted by staff right away and if it looks like you haven't been helped someone is sure to. All in all its a great establishment but the decor is not my taste which is why it is receiving a 4/5
This place has equally great food and deserts! The waiters/waitresses are all very helpful and friendly. The decor and atmosphere of the bakery is lovely. The only reasons I gave it four stars instead of five is because I believe the prices could be a bit cheaper, and because I wish there was more vegetarian options. I always come here to have a nice warm mug of pear chai cider.
The service was okay. The waitress didn't ever come around, and forgot my latte twice, but if you hunted them down they were friendly enough and got the job done. The chocolate cake was okay. Really dense, a little bit dry, overall okay. The latte was terrible. Straight up the worst latte I've ever had. I'm not even sure they put espresso in it. It tasted like a big cup of lukewarm milk.
I was having hard time to decide a good cake shop to get a good cake for my husband. i went to BE and i found great variety of cakes. i tasted red velvet cake and i was so yummy so i ordered birthday cake and picked up next day. Very very yummy cakes. The portions of cakes are also big so you guys can hangout with your loved ones as well. Thanks for such a delicious cake.????????????
I've been to baked expectations countless times. Yesterday was my first time back there since 3 years ago when I had a bad experience. 3 years ago I went there for dinner and it was steady when we got there but it started to really pick up when we were ordering our food. It took a while to get drinks and our order taken but I wasn't in a rush. I ordered the spaghetti and tomato sauce. When I got it it tasted tangy like it was made with a cheap tomato paste. It was almost impossible to get the attention of any employees because no one was checking up on us right away. I managed to get the owners attention and explained to her what was wrong and she insisted that I was wrong and that it was a homemade sauce that's why it was like that, that I'm not used to it because it's fresh. Even if she was right I was dumbfounded that she even spoke to me like that and was frustrated so I told her I wasn't going to eat it either way. She allowed me to order something else so I ordered cheese toast and got what I expected, cheap cheese toast. This time when I went the service was slow again. We weren't greeted, we looked at the cakes for a good 10 minutes before we decided to sit down. Getting our desserts was quick because they just have to cut and serve it. I ordered the peanut butter chocolate chip cheesecake and it was decent. I always find their cheesecakes pretty dry so if it weren't for the other person I was with I would've chosen somewhere else. I haven't found that their desserts are worth the price. There are so many dessert places in the city that focus on customers and the freshness of their products. Also their bathrooms are really sketchy, in the basement down stairs, it's not accessible and the lights were flickering. I had to keep my eyes closed the entire time to stop myself from getting a headache.
Not sure why this place has been around for as long as it has. The food is okay, but the baked goods (cakes) are terrible. Very poor balance of sugar, salt and fat. Almost always lacking in flavour.
Great variety of cakes and tastes. Servers are fantastic. Good choice for a date, take out or just drinks or coffee Nd dessert after a movie or concert.
This is a favourite Winnipeg spot, if ever visiting you must go! The servers are always friendly and easygoing and the food is excellent whether you're going for something sweet like the red velvet, or savoury like their penne pasta! Some of my fav memories are sitting here chatting with good friends and enjoying some good eats.
Great cheesecake! We went around 6:30 and there was no wait for seating. I've heard there can be a line out the door later at night sometimes so plan ahead if you want to come later at night. They take debit or cash only, no credit cards. We only ordered dessert so I cannot comment on their other foods. The dark chocolate cheesecake was delicious. It had just the right amount of sweetness and was not just a sugar bomb in your mouth. We will definitely be coming back here.
Was only there for a little while but in my brief visit the staff seemed rather nice and the burger I had was absolutely delicious.. and the fries were heavenly. Honestly, I'll come back for the fries alone in have to say; They were fried perfectly in a nice thin and crispy manner.
Went on a fairly busy Saturday afternoon with my wife and daughter for the 2nd time and 1st time in 7 years, so I don't remember much of the place. Got seated and served right away by a super sweet elderly waitress. Ordered the Tia Maria Torte and got a chocolate cake... and instantly got addicted. Dessert and service was awesome. 5/5
I ordered a cake but didn’t Like it at all . Feel like they baked it so many days ago and didn’t like the cream also . It has chocolate on the top but it kinda dark chocolate. I don’t like dark chocolate so didn’t work for us .
Such a Terrible experience I had at this place today. I ordered cheesecake and they thought its to go, and i wanted to eat inside. All i asked was a plastic plate and a fork to eat inside, they refused and told me i have to order again inorder to get a fork and plate, this will definitely be my first and last time there, and because of the poor customer service i cant recommend it to my friends.
Lovely flavours! You will find so many types of cakes. With a lot of chocolate or just basic cheesecake. But, I strongly recommend is the coffee!! Oh MY Gob, caramel salty coffee is delightful with a strawberry cheesecake you gonna see the life in a different view hahaha. Try it! You won't repeat
Fantastic place for a date night or for that matter any night. So many great food options on top of their enormous desert menu. Pies, Torres, Cakes and Cheesecakes. They're all incredibly delicious.
The cakes are great but the costumer service is poor. They don't care about their costumers. On my dad's birthday, we were getting a cake from b.e. My mom called b.e and asked for a full cake. My mom said full cake on the phone 3 times and the lady repeated full cake, then my mom said yes." The person who receive our call said okay. When we got to b.e, they gave us a slice and my mom said ' I asked for a full cake. And the lady said that my mom asked for a slice. Mom also said it's for my husband's birthday on the phone. So my mom said, who gets a slice for a birthday. Then my mom called the manager and told her that she asked for a whole cake. but manager didn't really believe us. That's how poor the costumer service is. they don't care if it took 1 hour to get there.
I left Winnipeg in '99 but I had been going here since the 80's. Had a schmoo tort there the other day and everything, food, decor, furniture...EXACTLY the same, which is a good thing. Next time I bring the family to the 'peg, I'll bring them here!
Always great. Amazing food, great staff and they have done a great job dealing with the pandemic. Its a joy to support this restaurant.
If you like cheesecake than you like Baked Expectations
The cakes are great but check out the burgers - fantastic!
Great place for amazing cakes and good food! You can go on a date or just a fun time with the family. Great staff, super busy most of the time. You can only pay with debit or cash!
Easy pickup during covid. Never really cares for theor food menu its just kind of mediocre. The cake is good but I've had better homemade, but if you don't know anyone who can make good cheesecake or are too lazy to yourself or even if you just want a piece this is pretty good. They give huge slices at least.
Went for coffee and cake! Was a nice ending our date night.
Delish and MASSIVE deserts. A must do in Wpg if you are a desert lover. Plus, they serve regular food too!
Loved this place! The portion sizes on the food were huge yet the prices were fair. Even the cake pieces were large, some are as much as your meal but well worth it. Lots of great choices in both food and desserts. The staff was super friendly and the atmosphere is amazing!
Had the best cheesecake and a good variety of treats for the people with a sweet tooth. They also offer burgers and fries & menu etc
Vegan options on the menu were not clearly marked. I ended up with a limited pool of options to choose from but I think if the options were more clearly defined I would have had a much easier time choosing. In the end my lunch was decent but my experience was a little frustrating.
Decent cakes and ambience. They could do so much better.
The cakes are always amazing here, their food selections is really good too as well. Very fond of the warm drinks.
Not that expensive, there food is okay! But I had a bad experience yesterday. A server was really rude. If that server wasn't rude, I can give them 4 stars.
Desserts and coffee are very very delicious!!!
Cute patio seats are perfect for an hour long stay or 3 firetrucks, whichever comes first!
Some of the best desserts in Winnipeg...they have done some minor decor upgrades too. Not sure why they have never replaced their old stained ceiling tiles.
Popped in for takeout dessert. I don't usually eat in because it's so busy. Staff were friendly and helped me choose a dessert when I couldn't decide. I opted for the carrot cake with cream cheese icing that's only available on weekends. It was AMAZING. the cake was not too dense and super fresh and the icing layers were generous. The price is pretty high (could get a whole fast food meal elsewhere) but the serving size is big enough to be a meal or to share with one or two other people.
Surprisingly delicious! Although my son was hospitalized the same day after he had an allergic reaction from peanut butter cheesecake. I didn't know he has an allergy to peanuts :'(
We order takeout from here regularly and are a big fan of many of their cakes. We’ve also dined in here as well for both their food and desserts. Best cakes in the city for sure! My personal favourite is the Tia Maria, but they have a ton of great options.
Amazing treats and decent food, lovely staff and super cute decor. In the heart of Osborne Village this adorable bake shop has been a Winnipeg classic for over 35 years. Whether you're looking for the perfect place to plan a date or have a late night craving for something sweet, they will exceed your expectations.
Love the ambiance, aside from having the best-tasting dessert in town. For the first time I tried something from the eat-in menu - a burger, and I enjoyed that immensely.
Extremely loud and my hot chocolate tasted nothing. Poor customer service as the cashier was rude and my friend even got the totally different drink that he didn't order. He just had it but that tasted bad as well.
The classic burger wasn’t great but the desserts are worth it
We got chocolate carrot cake slices to go. The cakes had great flavor and texture. The icing felt homemade and tasted great. The prices were excellent considering the quality.
If you want to go for some tasty dessert in Winnipeg, THIS is the place to go! Their cakes are fantastic!! Especially the Deadly Chocolate Mousse Cake!! Only complaint is they don't take credit cards. But that's ok.
When we walked in there was no one there to great us, no one even looked our way so we seated ourselves. One of the servers came to give us our menus didn’t even say hi or asked if we wanted anything other than water. After deciding on what we wanted to order the server then proceeded to tell us they were not serving food and asked if anyone up front told us that. ??? No one even greated us ??? How were we supposed to know anything. Terrible services, would not go again.
An Osborne street legend and the pie display is Instagram worthy! The owners are long time passionistas and I appreciate the theme restaurant. It's not easy to pull off 1950 shake diner decor and be respected as a hospitality business. Keep being you, it works
Went here with family and ordered my usual a hamburger with nothing on it and a side fries and I specifically said nothing else on the plate. Sounds simple cook fries ground beef and put two buns on top and plate it. Well I got it and there happened to be a pickle on the side when this happens the juice from the pickle goes into the bun and soaks the fries at this point I was upset and requested new buns for my burger finally I discarded my fries and took 3 bites of my burger and it was fully pink inside I cut it open up at down side to side PINK. Yes I will not be eating here again and I am dissatisfied with my experience here!
Worst customer service ever . I guess employees don’t want any new customers. We stood up in a line for half an hour but it was so worthless I wanted some opinions on cakes but he was not interested. I felt so unwelcome me and my friends won’t be coming here anymore.
One time we ordered a cake for a friend's birthday, they couldn't get it done on time (a little late but still before the birthday), they still gave us a $25 gift card, and the cake for free. Must have(s); Slayer and Crazy Chocolate
Amazing cakes, pies and desserts. Small portions for the price, otherwise great atmosphere and friendly staff.
I'm always buying here but today the service was ridiculously disgusting. I waited so long to be helped and spoke to 3 different people that were busy helping others. I didn't mind waiting but behind the counter there was a waitress picking at a cake that I had just ordered. This is disturbing, besides the fact that she did not have gloves on, SHE WAS EATING AT THE CAKE I JUST ORDERED.... this is next level sickening. There should be basic hygiene rules set in place when dealing with food. If staff are doing this just behind the counter, I could only imagine what is being done in the kitchen. Disappointed.
Amazing desserts, competent and friendly staff. My only issue is the noise level - when it's full, it feels like a packed bus. Washrooms can only be accessed by stairs.
Amazing food, usually only go for dessert and coffee but tried their pasta and it was splendid. Love going here !! Great place for meeting up or even first dates
Very good! The renovations look great and the place still has that cozy diner feel. It is extremely busy on weekends so expect a wait. Take out is available. Have to try the mocha torte and the Tia Maria is to die for!
First time visiting the place, was a Friday evening, Not many people in the place. We were seated quickly and our order was taken fairly fast. Then we waited and waited and waited, then waited some more for almost 30 minutes before we got our order. We were close to the display and the hostess could be heard taking negatively about the customers and she seamed more interested in taking to other staff and texting than anything else. A couple came in and sat themselves by the window, the table still had the dishes from the previous customers and her comet was "Why would they sit there" then walked away. Even though the deserts were good once we got them. The service and staff left us not wanting to come back.
Cake serving size/slices are inconsistent, you get lucky with a regular slice or unlucky with a half serving. Some cakes have a 50/50 cake to icing ratio :( check the pics for proof. What happened to you baked? - Been buying cake and slices to go here since I was 22 (8 years now). This past weekend was the first time I called to complain. Baked expectations is known for bad service so I didn't expect much. The manager and staff were asking if I was this person or that person that complained earlier etc. It was obvious that Baked Expectations got multiple complaints that day (Monday) and they're very disorganised. In the end it wasn't worth it to say anything.
The rude staff is a let down. My 4 year old daughter took a balloon from one of the tables and was asked to return it. I was informed "we cannot give the balloon right now, maybe another time." I would have gladly paid for a balloon. Not a family friendly place. Furthermore, the cherry cheescake is better at costco and at a fraction of the price charged here.
They always have delicious cakes served on the daily and a favourite of mine is the strawberry cheesecake and red velvet cake. The wait was kind of long even though there wasn't that many people that day. They do offer savoury food as well such as burgers, fries and salads.
I always get shmoo and meringue.. so I decided to try the red velvet this time and it was really dry! And hard!! So i wonder maybe it's a few days old. ???? waste of money! And I came all the way from unicity. Will never get it again.
One of my favourite places in the city for dessert. All of the cakes are amazing! I’ve tried almost all of them. Also the staff is always super friendly!
Great dessert place.amazing place with some of the best desserts in Winnipeg
This is my favorite go-to place for dessert, always been impressed with the cakes and cheesecake. My personal favorite is Pumpkin spice cake (seasonal). I wish they have it all around the year. They make fresh stuff every day, and their display fridge is almost empty if you go after 7:30 pm. Their service is not the best; there have been a few times when I was disappointed with their customer service, but their cakes overpower that part. FYI- they don’t take credit cards- only debit n cash.
Been here many times and have had two bad experiences. One night they were super busy, I came here with 3 others. We were in line waiting to be seated. A server skipped us in line and seated our table to someone else, when we got their attention about it, they said “woops sorry” and moved on. The second time I ordered a small cake to be picked up the next day, confirmed the price to be $35 because a small is $30 and $5 for writing. I went to pick up the order and they told me they forgot to place my order in. They had a large one in the counter so they gave me that one instead, reassuring me I wouldn’t need to pay for the large since it was their mistake. However, the total came up to $40. When I asked about why I was told it would be $35, the waitress couldn’t give me a reason as to why. It really doesn’t make sense why it would be $40, and the cake didn’t have writing on it either. I shouldn’t have to worry about whether my order got placed or not. I will not be placing another cake order with them again.
Wow! I've always loved this restaurant. Due to the pandemic, they stayed true to their roots, baking. Please TRY the Lemon chiffon cake, for real. Usually I'm a chocolate die hard. The berries in the Lemon chiffon, that cake, that super light cream etc... I'm in love!
Best red velvet cake I have ever tasted!!
Great cakes, good food, great date spot. My favs are the tia Maria, banana cake, carrot cake, and strawberry cheesecake
The desserts are fantastic, the staff are exceptional. Great place to cure a sweet tooth
Great for desserts, but I always find that their dinner is strictly mediocre. Burger buns are usually dry and sandwiches are generally flavourless. Salads are usually okay. Great spot for cake and coffee but skip lunch. Biggest attraction of this spot is its convenience given its central location and long hours along with its incredible cakes.
I love baked cakes and decided to get them to do the cakes for my wedding! They were so helpful at the meeting, gave great advice and were extremely friendly and great to work with! Also a great price for the amount of cakes we are getting!
Good selection of baked good, friendly staff. Everything is a little too sweet for my taste but their flavour combinations are very good
Awesome selection of cakes. Had to buy three slices because I couldn't decide. All tasted great. Unfortunately, service was very slow, and restroom facilities weren't well marked. I believe the restroom I found was for employees.
When you're paying almost $10 for a slice of cake, you'd think it would be flavorful and moist and actually made properly. A 13 year old in home economics could make a better cake. Super disappointing. Didn't meet my baked expectation lol
It looks clean and nice. Prices are pretty high for a cake that was super dry. I honestly wouldn't recommend or go again.
The food is very good. The fries are a lot better than they used to be. The service was very professional, and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommend it if you're in the Osborne area.
Lots of desserts to choose from. They are amazing. I'm taking a star away due to not accepting credit cards. I went to get cakes for a birthday. I only had Google pay. Staff didn't appreciate the fact I couldn't pay until I came back with a debit card. Were not friendly.
Absolutely the worst service. Rude staff. Came in as a group of 4, ordered. Then saw 3 others we knew after we came in so we asked to sit together, said yes but gave table to someone else so we moved closer. Then a rude waitress came over and said in a harsh tone that we needed to pay 15% gratuity for the inconvenience. Never going back. ????️hire better staff.
Baked Expectations, now celebrating 35 years in business, has been an Osborne Village "pillar" for so many, and has been in our lives since Denise and I went there on our first date in Nov 1984. We hadn't been there in a few years, and we were not dissapointed! I was pleased with the flashy new decor, but did miss the blackboard menu. Our friends shared a slice with carmel sauce. My wife had one chocolate slice, and I had a different one. They were both delicious, as always.
The cake is awesome, but the waitress coming with the bill as soon as possible, we didn't even finished eat. No excuses for this, the place was empty.
The desserts are fabulous and always a great selection and tasty. Only 4 stars for the environment, which is very simialr to a cafeteria. I hate being in that space and usually get take out.
I walked by Baked Expectations about 2 weeks ago and noticed that it was open late and people were dining in, looked like a nice atmosphere. So tonight I took my boyfriend there at 9pm (closes at 10pm) and was barked at the second we walked in about the only dessert options left. There was a couple of seats available so asked if we could sit in and have a coffee. The lady at the front (assumed to be manager) said that they are closed for dining in because “there is a pandemic”. We all know there is a pandemic, no need to be snarky, I was just asking as I had seen people dining in recently and there was tables and chairs set up. She then proceeded to tell us that they were closing and that they weren’t selling beverages either. I inquired about that because we were there an hour before their alleged closing time, she said that they were closing on a case by case basis depending on when they run out. We decided to get a piece of lemon cheesecake to bring home and share, only to be yelled at “DEBIT or CASH” as I pulled out my Mastercard. Cheesecake was decent but will not be returning. Disappointing experience.
Had a blt sandwich and fries first. Excellent. Then carrot cake; awesome. Staff were top notch in all areas. Place was so clean and upbeat atmosphere.
A tried and true Osborne date spot , baked expectations might come across as a lazy and easy choice to some but it deserves its place in the lexicon of Winnipeg cake spots. Big slices , decent coffee with a serviceable menu of hot food that often punches above its weight class. The chilli fries are tasty and the burger is a welcome entree . Could maybe be a little cozier - but that’s a personal preference. Loses a point due to some slightly high prices for what you end up getting and is more cautionary than anything. Baked expectations needs to be checked out at least once - just to find out if they do your favourite cake or pie well enough to justify exploring the menu more.
I would give the baker 5 stars and the actual place itself 2-3 stars. You buy the cake by the slice or you can pre-order an entire cake for a special occasion. The slices are generous portions for the price, and always taste fresh. Also, I love how they have a new cake of the week...the limited edition pumpkin spice cake are what dreams are made of. The German chocolate cheesecake is probably the best cheesecake in the city...so creamy! As for my rating for the place: the decor is nice, but never enjoyable to dine inside. While the wait staff is nice, service is slow and sometimes you’re forgotten about and have to track down the server. So, I would recommend to always do takeout/delivery through DoorDash. If you order in person, they only accept cash/debit.
The desserts here never fail to satisfy. My favorite is the Dark Chocolate Cheesecake. Even though we were one of two tables in the restaurant, the service was quite slow. Be sure to have lots of time for your visit.
Date night! When all else fails and you just want dessert! We make our way to this cute little place! Service wasn’t the greatest! Server was quite sloth-like. Served everyone around us, when we arrived before them. Won’t hold that against them tho! Cakes are toooooo die for!!! We will be back!!!!!
The best red velvet I have tried so far.
Went for dessert on Thursday night. Great cheesecake and very generous portions. The Red Velvet cake was very disappointing. Cake part was quite dry, but the icing was as delicious as in the past. The portion size for the cake was extremely disappointing! It was about half of the normal size of what we have been served over the past couple of years! At $7.95 for a serving of cake the portion is not worth it. Hopefully, it was an off night for the cake cutters! Our server was excellent! Let's fix the portion size on the cakes!!!
The cheesecake was amazing. However, the service we got from an employee there was horrible. It was the first time my friends and I went there, we just wanted to buy a piece and go, however they put us in a seat anyway. So we thought they would come to us then we could order, but we waited 10 minutes and no one helped us so we assumed we had to walk to the desserts since there were people in line. When it was our turn to pick the dessert and told them it was to go, the lady got angry at us and gave us the rudest tone saying how next time we come there and we are just ordering to go, don’t sit in a table as it takes up their space (she said it a hostile way) we did not know any better especially since no one told us or even bothered to offer help when we were waiting for so long. Very cute place though! I just wish they had a sign that specify take out/eating in rules or something that would let people coming in know that tables are only for those who are eating in smh
Always good but limited selection each time we visit
They have the best cherry cheesecake ???? The staff are excellent and are very quick to get your order done. Lobe the atmosphere of the seating area
The staff were all extremely accommodating while processing my order. I appreciate all of their help!! Baked Expectations is my go to spot for every sugar craving. The cakes are always amazing; I have never been disappointed ????
Went exactly once. Poor service, low quality food and the desserts are nothing I can't make in my own kitchen with less sugar for better taste. I won't be back
My go to place for cheesecake! Always busy but not too bad if you get it to go. Unfortunately the last time I visited the dark chocolate cheesecake was a little dry, but still decent
Cheesecake was delicious although burnt a bit on the outside. Service was friendly but we were basically invisible after being initially served (had to go to counter to get coffee refill after 15min wait)
So impressed with the great customer service I received! I had ordered two slices of the eggnog cake for delivery through door dash. I received a call from baked expectations shortly after I submitted my order; they explained that they only had one slice of the eggnog cake left and asked if I wanted another cake for my second slice. I said that it wasn't a problem and picked another cake. When my order arrived at home I received the two slices I ordered plus two extra slices of two other cakes. On the inside of the packing they had written, "Thank you for being so understanding. Enjoy!" It was a pleasant surprise and I really appreciated it. Just goes to show that kindness goes a long way; thank you :)
If you're looking for a good place to go for a great dessert then I highly recommend Baked Expectations. Don't go close to closing time though unless you're ok with a reduced number of options.
I ordered a pie from baked expectations and the price for their full pies are $35 each when I called to place an order they told me the pie is 35 but the glass dish it is served on is 10 so the total cost is 45, in my mind the is false advertisement for the online menu. It should say 45 not 35, that is unless you can order the pie without a plate which gets me to my second issue with the bakery. When I asked for the pie to be cut into pieces and giving in the box without the glass dish they said they couldn't do it because of presentation reasons...first off they should not be concerned on how I will be presenting the pie to my family. They should be concerned about customer satisfaction which was not met. The reason they give you a 5 dollar glass dish is A. You dont return it and they make 5 dollars off you, Or B. Do return it and possibly buy more goods in store. There was no reasonable excuse they couldn't cut the pie into smaller pieces and take the dish right then and there.....feels bad man. No customer satisfaction.
Really disappointed in the decline of Baked Expectations over my last few visits. Today was enough to put me off completely in favour of one of the amazing other bakeries around town. We had a slice of Pavlova, and a slice of Dark Chocolate Cheesecake, both were $9 after tax. The Pavlova was lacking fruit and whipped cream, dry, and way too sweet. The cheesecake was a bit better, but still dry, and tasted like it came from a factory, not made in a bakery. I rarely have dined in, but the staff seems to be ever changing, and the owner/manager always has a sour expression on her face and seems really grumpy towards customers and staff. Going forward, I will choose to spend my money at one of the other delicious bakeries in town offering way better value, such as Goodies and La Belle Baguette. Baked Expectations is past it's prime, phoning it in, and relying on only it's name and years in the community instead of it's product.
This is an Osborne Village institution! With its wonderfully retro diner interior, and the selection of unique cakes, tortes and pies, this place is a destination. It's never not busy. On weekends its positively bustling and full of chatter. You'll probably have a little bit of a wait but, you can use the time to take in the scene and maybe decide which slice you'll get. We've been here countless times over the years, but it's still a wonderful treat to go get dessert here.
First of all we had to wait a long time to get a seat, we took a plate of pasta (Fettuccine Alfredo) which had too much garlic and we had to wait a long time again before the food arrived. Then you can't pay with credit card, they accept only debit card and cash but they don't make it clear because there's just a little sign on the check out desk. The prices are very high and we are pretty sure that they made us pay more than we actually had to. Our food was supposed to cost 25 dollars (including taxes) and they made us pay 30 dollars. We guess that they probably tried to fool us because we are international students and they thought that we don't understand. We are very disappointed.
Love this place. Been there a number of time. Great spot for late night treats. Great food as well as desserts. Good coffee and drink selection as well. I have never been disappointed in anything I've had there. Their Cherry Cheesecake is great!
Great cakes, just wish they have more regular food variety. They should consider expanding their sandwich or main dishes menu.
Take out price for 2 pieces of cheesecake: $17.00 Whip cream was runny, crust was crumbly. Crooks. I'll never go there again. No reason for 1 piece of cheesecake to be $7. You'd think that take out price would be cheaper. GREEDY .
Good dessert! Gets a bit busy in the evenings but you don't have to wait long before getting seated. A little frustrating that you can't pay with credit card and they just have a small sign on their cash counter indicating that - easy to miss !
Been going here for years ! They have delightful desserts especially their cheesecakes .unfortunately the one time I ordered a cheesecake for my mother’s birthday, it looked amazing , we were about 1/3 into the cake and right smack down the middle of the cake . Which is the best part might I add, was a long strand of hair . Booo! Sooo sad . I know s*** happens but please when making awesome desserts wear a hairnet.
We called ahead of time before travelling in from out of town to purchase a few slices of a specific cake and we were told it was available. When we arrived we were told we could only purchase the entire cake, which we considered doing and then we were told that someone else had already purchased it. There are only certain cakes available for people with allergies, was very disappointed at the lack of communication and organization.
Good cakes. Their brownies are very dry and lack flavour. My biggest frustration is that I can never figure out why the service is so unbelievably slow when you are serving something that just needs to be cut and placed on a plate!
Great cakes, just wish they have more regular food variety. They need more hot plates to choose from. Also no baked good at all from middle east unfortunately.
Came here tonight for my 25th birthday with my husband. 1st time coming here and loved it! Cute interior, Instagram worthy and lovely, kind staff. They put a candle in my cake when I'd told them it was my b-day. Wasn't sure what cake to eat and was recommended the strawberry chocolate-it was delicious! Would recommend and would come again❤
Dropped in hoping on the off chance to find a dessert that was both gluten and dairy free. A tall order I know, but it would be nice if a dessert specialty shop would have that breadth in their menu. Just ended up with a coffee drink. Which they were nice and patient to make without the milk.
The cakes are good but unless the fries are supposed to be crispy and cold they were old. Leaves a lot to be desired. Disappointed to see them still using styrofoam too.
Place is a bit overrated, I find it to be hit-or-miss. The chocolate fudge slab is so so good! But I've had cakes that kinda seemed a bit stale or dry. I don't like the front entrance line-up at the door it feels squishy and disorganized on a normal busy night. The old diner look is cool.
I was very disappointed with their pastries, tried several times at this location. Prices are outrageous for the quality and quantity. Staff is very unfriendly leaving you a bitter taste
Have had dessert from here on several occasions. Might seem pricey at first but the portions are huge and we always go home with leftovers. Something for everyone. Easy enough to take out but I do recommend hanging out for a bit and having a coffee. Great place to catch up with a friend!
I love desserts and was so glad to try Baked Expectations. I got the Shmoo Torte that I have never heard of before even when I have visited Winnipeg maybe 4 times already. It’s so good and the portions were huge. I don’t think anyone from our table finished their own cakes. Giving 4 stars because some of the staff were quite rude. They might just be stressed with how busy the place is. I don’t know.
Retro diner atmosphere and some of the best baked selections in River City!
Love this place <3
Fantastic Pavlova, best I've ever tasted, and most beautiful I've ever seen. Have many varieties of different cakes, I haven't tried them all but have only heard great things. Highly Recommend for a show-stopping presentation and amazing taste!
Awful service, rude staff, menu with no descriptions, gross dessert. It looks like they just tossed a week old piece of cake onto the plate. Tasted like it was a week old too.
Rude staff, purposely reducing my portion of cake because she list an argument with me. I am disabled and require a caregiver. She tried to ban me from the restaurant because I needed a second person there. She didn't understand the rules and because I defied her authority she was extremely rude
The food is good, but the name gives it away: this place is ALL about the desserts. Buy two slices in contrasting flavours, just for fun! The decor is adorable, by the way, and perfect for those snapshots you'll want to share with all your friends!
The food here is delicious, especially the French fries. I only wish they had more gluten free desserts. Free wifi also a bonus. Parking isn't great but the place is pretty accessible by bus.
The staff are so rude, the cake is overpriced and dry, and anytime I go in (hours before close) there's maybe 5 cakes to choose from. The staff dont have any interest in serving you, you're a huge inconvenience to them. There are so many other restaurants that make better cake by the slice in the city, I don't recommend wasting your money here.
Went here for the first time about a month ago and had the potato leek soup and it was phenomenal! The staff here are so lovely and very kind! I absolutely love the design and aesthetics of the building as well, very cute fun for friends or for a date! Would highly recommend. Went back a few days ago with my best friend for Sunday brunch, got a different soup expecting the potato-leek but it was delicious as well, also got a green tea which was lovelynsimce it was bit of a chilly day, also loved that they do a small free snacks plat for Sunday customers! 11/10 will come here to eat again.
I tried schmoo torte in my first visit as it was described as the iconic cake in Winnipeg. Well, it's a Canadian version of pecan pie except pecan was mixed with cake with caramel on top. Pretty ok. But I'm more impressed with Pavlova which is a merengue based cake with strawberries, cream, and condensed milk filling. It strikes the balance of sweet and citrus tastes. They both went well with hot tea. I went with Hazelnut Merengue in my second visit. Its sweetness is so overwhelming that I can hardly taste the hazelnut. I paired it with rootbeer, which was a bad move!!! The staff is friendly and helpful. The environment is decent. Can be suitable for dating even. Parking can be tough especially around the rush hours. Overall, it was a great experience and it set me in the right mood for what I was going to try. Highly recommended
Beautiful cakes and tortes with exceptional service! Check out their seasonal specials or cake of the week (the peanut butter marshmallow square cheesecake for Pride was amazing!)
Amazing customer service, super friendly and nice. They have a variety of cakes, which are also very good!! But their espresso shots wasn’t the greatest.
Service is terrible. They're very cocky and arrogant and think too much of themselves.. talk about egos. Also as baking goes, its terribly over priced. And the manager who was supposed to be helping me didn't assist for jack. He had a binder or cakes except I was so limited basically 70% of the binder I couldn't do. And they charged $175 for a 1 tier cake wasn't that good quality either. Go to cake-ology and other places but this one!
Not a bad Cafe, massive portions of their very well made desserts. Their coffee is very good but my order was incorrect twice. Still worth a try
What a lovely locally owned establishment that is the first that comes to mind when thinking about dessert! Top notch quality and service - beautiful venue that is keeping the Village area alive!
I only stopped in briefly to get a take out order for a piece of cake. But my experience here during that brief period of time was amazing! It had an amazing atmosphere and the cake was excellent! A tad bit pricey (9 dollars for a piece of cake) but the quality and portion size are totally worth it. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is because it was super crowded and it took forever to get my order and payment done. The restaurant was super crowded and it was hard to get into but once in it was an amazing experience.
Bad service but great atmosphere and staple desserts. This is the place to go for your sweet tooth. It's generally busy during evenings, even during the coldest weekday nights. The food is pretty bland but their cakes, tortes, and pies are awesome
It was great except for there gluten free options. I was looking foreword to chocolate cake. They only had mouse and tort. Hope they get a good cake recipient soon.
Great selection of cakes. Only concern is how pricy it is.
I got the dark chocolate cheesecake -- to die for. They even had a vegan chocolate cake option, which was new since I was there last. We also got london fogs with almond milk and it was a perfect compliment to the cake because it wasn't overly sweet. Will be back!
I ordered a whole cheesecake for today. The cake had a curly hair on top as a special topping. I saw the hair right after the cashier gave it to me. They grabbed another cake and i made sure to ask them to see the one with the hair right next to the replacement cake.
Always great service even when busy which seems to be always, but well worth the wait. Went for coffee and cake recently and never disappointed so yummy ????????
Perfect place to enjoy your cup of joe. Prices for their coffee is very cheap. Cakes are either hit or miss. I will definitely recommend their mango torte. It has a perfect balance of flavors.
Mmmm - The Slayer Cake (AKA Salted caramel chocolate layer cake. It slays you with it’s insane deliciousness!) was our latest purchase for a family birthday. The combination chocolate and caramel created a heavenly choice. We were amazed at our ability to cut this cake!!
Disappointed their kitchen was closed for lunch although website said it was open. However, very clean and welcoming, bakery items looked delicious. We were visiting from out of town so nowhere to store a piece of cake for later.
Wish I could give a higher rating, the place is great! Unfortunately I can't eat anything there... please make a vegan chocolate cake or something! Watching my friends eat cake is great, but being able to eat some is even better. Would make our traditional end-of-season windups at your restaurant a lot more enjoyable
Customer service and quality has definitely gone down the hill at Baked Expectations over the last 2-3 years it seems. Went to Baked this past Sunday and it was a disappointing experience. Order a Chai Latte that was not close to even being luke warm, told our uninterested server; she said she would make a new one....35 minutes later my sister received her chai latte after she had already finished her meal! The server looked stressed and Baked Expectations looked understaffed for sure. We ordered lunch and it was pretty mediocre. Will not be returning to Baked Expectations anytime soon. Prairie Ink has better service and desserts/lunch IMO.
Excellent desserts for the sweet tooth, with shareable treats for a huge variety of tastes and a fun, inviting atmosphere. Pretty loud when busy, so I suggest calling for a quieter timeframe if you have noise or crowd issues.
The cakes are absolutely delicious here. We loved the dark chocolate cheesecake, coconut cream pie and strawberry cheesecake. Definitely recommend this place. About 8-9 bucks for a slice, and the slices are very generous! Great service here as well.
We went last night with a group of girlfriends for cake and coffees. Cake, coffee and our server were awesome! Then another server came over and said, “Umm I just wanted to know how much longer to planned on being at the table? Just to get a better estimate of wait times to the (minimal amount) people waiting. No rush though. Take your time.” So awkward, ruined the vibe. We paid and left. We hadn’t even been there an hour. How disappointing.
Service was slow, when asked to be move the servers weren’t willing to accommodate when there was a table available. Servers stood around talking and we waited to be served but no one was coming over so we had to call someone over. The guy who served us was miserable and wasn’t acknowledging our orders. This isn’t the first time and I am not impressed with how tonight played out.
Good for the people who want to taste sugar and butter but nothing else... The owner is rude and told me she didn't understand my accent. :( And she was constantly checking her phone when I was talking to her. The decor was the best thing about the place.
You people suck. I went to Baked Expectations tonight (July 26) for cake with my wife and son and daughter. My daughter is allergic to cloves, which is a very commonly used spice. The server was especially useless when it came to telling us what, if anything, has cloves in it. We decided not to risk it and went elsewhere. The kids got take out dessert waffles at a place close by (Tea Story), but my wife and I still wanted cake because it was my birthday. We go back to Baked Expectations. I told them twice that my wife and I were going to order food but the kids have food from elsewhere to eat. The lady at the front told us this was OK and found us a table and sat us there. The server shows up and tells us our kids have to leave because they have outside food. Then why did you seat us? If your people weren't so clueless and could have said what was safe for my daughter to eat, we wouldn't have had to get food from elsewhere in the first place. By the way, my wife was in a wheelchair because she is in the end stages of terminal cancer. The doctors actually expected her to die a few months ago. This was likely the last birthday that she'll ever get to share with me. I'll never go back, and my wife certainly never will either.
If I could put minus stars I would. I normally come in the evening for a desert/snack and it has always been a great experience until this past Monday. My friend and I thought that we would come by for a late lunch. Thank goodness my drink came in a can and not in the glass they brought me. The glass was filthy, lipstick and greasy finger prints all over it. I showed the waitress who seemed to be the manger on hand and she was visible upset that I had complained asking for a clean glass, she snapped up my glass and said with attitude that the dish washer has a hard time cleaning these type of stains, no apology. We both ordered the chili with garlic toast. It was the worst chili I have ever had! It was more like a thick tomato soup, no flavor, at best I would describe it as a really poor can of chili. The "garlic bread" was this massive piece of greasy mess, there was no garlic to be found on it. I complained again and was yelled at that I must not eat chili often because this was great chili. It was a huge waste of $13.00, my suggestion save your money and go to Tim Hortons for their chili and you won't have to worry about the extremely poor service and attitudes. It says a lot when Tim Hortons chili is better than a restaurants.
They are always sold out of so many of the cakes early in the day. The cakes are amazing, but the selection ends up being really limited.
The key lime pie was good. Actually, it was amazing. However I went in there craving cheesecake, and was disappointed to find that with all their selection, they don't offer plain cheesecake (arguably the best kind! Why wouldn't you offer it?). As amazing as it was, settling for your second choice kinda ruins an experience.
The food is amazing but I've beeb here. 6/7 times I have eaten here the service is terrible. I understand if you're having a bad day but seriously, the staff are rude. I asked a question about the gluten free cakes and the girl at the counter gave me the rudest look and attitude. And then I said I have celiac disease and they put my cake in the same box as my friends.... Then I was told they use the same knife for all of the cakes.... after that I payed and the lady kept talking to as if I was stupid, dismissed me. I asked a question and she proceeded to tell me the same thing over again. I have gotten better service from McDonalds.... at least they smile.
I love this place. A little Winnipeg Gem. I have been going here occasionally for 15+ years and it's still amazing as the first time I went.
This is the place for cheesecake! Good menu selection for easy eats, then indulge in desert! Great coffee selection, friendly great service. Parking can be a challenge, but worth the walk.
I went there to get a cake and it's gorgeous. The staff are also kind! It's a good experience. I would like to try more cakes later.
This star is solely based on experience. We went in late for coffee and dessert after a meal. It was just after midnight. The restaurant advertised that it was open until 1 a.m. Upon entering, all of the staff was busy cleaning up for close. The normally beautifully displayed baking had been removed from its glass case, and some pieces of cake haphazardly laid out. We were told that there would still be service, so we sat down at a table to wait for service. Our waitress came after waiting for a few minutes. She came to our table with a poor attitude, and, it seemed, ready to pick a fight. She did not like the way my husband spoke (he was a bit stern in his tone of voice). At one point in the interchange, she implied that we were behaving badly, and reminded us that "this was a family place". Aside from the stern tone, we had done nothing to make anyone uncomfortable, nor behaved in a way that would upset families. We sat at a table and waited for service. The exchange ended with us being invited to leave, and us doing so without creating a scene. Managers were in witness of this incident, but sat aside and allowed us to be treated poorly by the staff member. When asked what her name was, our server told us it was "none of our concern". Had we had the server's name, I likely would have chosen to contact management privately, rather than post this publicly. The treatment we received was undeserved, and has, 2 days later, continued to leave us upset.
Great service. Coffee cups never emptied and the food was great! Had the borscht... so good!
The best cake in the city but pleaaaaase make more Tia Maria.... legit its always sold out by like 7 pm when I crave it. Thanks!
Great cakes, coffee and teas. Only complaint is they always make you feel bad for coming in after 11pm. You guys serve coffee and dessert in one of the most popular walking areas of the city expect to stay late.
Never any cake in stock. Always sold out of popular kinds. Takes ages to get seated and served with no one ahead of you. Watch out it’s first come first serve for deserts, line place doesn’t matter. Traveling from far away and let down :(
Tasty treats but the portions are got ridiculously small Lots of other bakeries to choose from
We visited Baked Expectations to get 2 slices of cake to take home. We waited in line with the crowd to pay, due to there being no signs stating otherwise. We got barked at by the hostess when finally, we got to the front of the line, that if we wanted cake to go to the glass counter. So we waited over there, to pay almost $20.00 for 2 pieces of cake that were THIN sliced. Definitely not worth $20, and also the banana cake was peanut butter banana- not the usual banana and no one told us. We found that out when we got home, when we asked for banana cake. It was not a good experience. We have visited Baked Expectations numerous times but I think this time will be our last.
I've gone here for 20 years. I've since moved from Winnipeg, but when i visit we always go here. My 12 year old has never lived in Winnipeg but she associates it with Baked Expectations. My go to: Old Fashioned Chocolate Runners up: Banana Cake; Red Velvet Family favourites: Tia Maria Torte & Shmoo Cake
I like the way they make tortes. Cream are not too sweet, and I like the caramel torte, eat with Americano, definitely worth to try. Last time we order one whole Crazy Chocolate cake for my daughter’s birthday, …
We went to buy cake pieces, i have been going there often i love their cakes, but this time we went took the queue and made our choices of cakes, and we went to the cashier to told us we only accept cash and debit, what on earth is this we came all the way to your store to face this inconvenience i would accept that if it was always the case but suddenly you decide to dont accept credit cards wasnt nice at all, the staff didnt offer anything and she wasnt even sorry for it, so we left with nothing but anger, Fortunately we there was Goodies still open and they do accept credit card, Regarding COVID19 these store are taking cash over credit card guess what they dont care if the money is infected and could make workers sick, all they care are the boxes they will save by not using credit card.
This place is a gem! Gorgeous, clean, comfortable, retro vibe. Absolutely to-die-for desserts, which are beautifully displayed and presented. Friendly, helpful staff. Highly recommend to anyone with a sweet tooth.
Went here for a late Saturday night snack had the Oreo cheese cake and it was amazing. Cool environment, very busy even at 11:45 - 12:00 the burger my brother in law had looked great as well. Will definitely be back some time. Good luck finding parking spot, but the block long walk will be worth it and you can work off some of that awesome cheesecake walking back.
So disappointed. Ordered what looked like a beautiful chocolate cake with sea salt caramel icing........what a waste. It was so dry and crumbly. It was awful, complete waste of time and money. The cheesecakes that were ordered were okay. Nothing special. I hadn't been there in years and likely won't be back again. Very disappointing.
HORRIBLE PLACE. Save your money and go anywhere else for dessert. Their kitchen is VERY dirty, the cakes are way too expensive and their service is garbage. The cakes are not fresh and a friend of mine who worked there use to say that their bakery is filthy. The owner is also just about the rudest person I've ever met.
Love Baked Expectations! They never disappoint. I'm so happy they're open again. I can order for pick up any time!!.
Always love it here ???? usually a bit of a line up to get in but well worth the wait. Service is quick and friendly. Portion sizes of their desserts are large enough to tame any appetite. The Tia Maria torte is a must try and the salted caramel cheesecake is incredible. Selection of desserts gets a little thin the later you get in the evening but that is to be expected. Dont get discouraged if the one you want isn't there anyone you choose will be just as enjoyable
One of the male server was super rude and had a bit of an attitude. He looked as if he didn't want to be there and when severing us, just threw down the menu and left. While every other table that sat down around the same time got water, we weren't served anything and our order was taken last. It didn't help that we were the only asians in the store making it feel as if he was a bit racist. When we asked to just get it all to go because we didn't want to be there any longer, he talked back acting very arrogant and did not adhere to the customer. Will not go back anytime soon and I would not recommend due to the terrible service.
I went there for first time. Dessert was good. I had hazelnut torte. I would go again. My concern is parking....I didn't see any except on the street
Always great service here from the staff. We went on Valentine's to get dessert and didn't have to wait to get a table. The cake was delicious!
Find the items taste the same and really no options for people with food tolerance issues.
Great cake. However when I came here to pick up a few slices of cake the owner was rude towards myself and then also yelled at a server who was was being very polite and cutting my order. I will not be back as I do not support this kind of behaviour from management and especially owners of businesses. I will get my dessert elsewhere next time.
my whole family used to love this place even tho its pricy and there are other places.but this was a traddition, the food itself were okay but 2 last times we came the owner was yelling at the workers!she was totally rude and scary we will NOT support a business like that.VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. VERY UPSETTING. CAKES ARE OVERPRICED AND NOTHING SPECIAL REALLY.!!!!!
Anytime I've gone to this Winnipeg institution, it's incredibly busy. Is the service ideal? Of course not but for as busy as they are, it's pretty darn good. I don't envy the servers or the other staff as there are constantly people coming and going. They are always friendly, they are prompt and I've never waited for anything there. I've been going for over 13 years to Baked Ex and I've not had 1, not 1 bad experience. The food and beverages are always delicious and I've never waited long to receive them. They have a diverse offering of food (not just dessert) and coffee drinks as well as cold drinks. The decor is a nod to 50's diner's and though it hasn't changed much over time, it's been well taken care of and maintained and feels timeless, bright and cheery. If you don't like crowds, get take out, but definitely give them a try. There is no better cheesecake or dessert place in the city.
Wow, the cheesecakes are quite great. The pieces are generous, and their seating area is very 60s vibe.. love it.
Cake is great! Got the carrot cake and loved the cake, soft, real carrots, and the cream cheese icing was sweet but still tart. If anything could be improved it was just too much icing. Don’t need an inch thick icing between each of the layers.
The cakes are good but sometimes the size of the cakes vary depending on the person working. Should have a better way to standardize size. Disappointing
Quality food, delicious cakes and other eats like soups, burgers ect.. enjoyable atmosphere but higher prices. Expect to spend a bit on date night if you come here
The worst experience ever. I think the staff need atleast 40 hours training of customer service. The cheescake had turned super sour , and it was obvious that if was sitting there for a long long time. You guys will all your customers if you dont make a change.
It was BAD.. the strawberry cheesecake we ordered looked like it had a bite out if it. There were maybe 6 small strawberry slices on the top. The result was it was dry as the desert! What is worse it was brought to the attention of the server, cashier and manager. None of them seemed to care at all.
I'm sure the food would be better of it was fresh, cheesecakes we received were stale Af, waitress (Karyn!) Was seemingly preoccupied and forgot the cream for our coffees. That's all we ordered. Hopefully it's better... next time?
The baked goods are amazing, but be prepared to spend $8 to $9 per slice. It's a wonderful place to take a date.
I’ve been a few times now and I’ve never been so disappointed.... the server wasn’t too kind and she had a sour expression on her face. The cake tasted like it had been sitting out for days... also found a very long hair baked into the cake I ordered.. also a hair on the side of the cup on the beverage that was ordered. The lady working at the till was also very snobby and very rude with my friends and I when we were just trying to pay for our bills...
I just went to Baked expecatations. Of course my expectations were pretty high, but I was blown away!!! I got the chocolate mouse and it was very rich but delicious and I had leftovers which is always nice!!! If you're looking for a nice diner experience and you're a cake lover Baked is for you!!!
Very unorganized and chaotic. The dessert was alright but who needs serving sizes that large. Can’t say I’ll be back anytime soon.
What can be said about this place that hasn't already been shared. The cakes and desserts are amazing. It is a date night treat for me and my wife every time we go out. Without fail. Worth the trip. The banana cake is a must and usually a cheesecake, with two forks. The quality is unmatched. You can taste the real ingredients.
I had their vegetable barley soup and it was flavourless, bland, and just overall disappointing. The fries had no character probably could get better almost anywhere and no other vegan options which is just pretty disappointing. The pink lemonade was pretty good but let's be honest for what it was, it was overpriced and you don't get refills like you can at Stella's. Not to mention the server wasn't a help at all with the menu finding something I could have and she seemed pretty miserable in general. I had a very underwhelming experience and expected so much more. Probably won't be returning.
I went in to get a couple pieces of cake. The restaurant was completely empty. The manager asked us to put our face masks on..completely fine we put them on. As we’re looking at the cakes she says are you going to buy something or just keep staring at the cake. Awful service
Great selection of delicious cakes!!
Overpriced. I bought a whole "Chocolate Strawberry Mousse Cake" for $65, and not entirely surprised that half the price was accounting for the "Baked Expectations" name and reputation. It tasted nice enough, and had a nice fancy topping, but was by no means worth the price. The taste was not particularly decadent or spectacular in any way, basically just chocolate cake with whipped cream topping, which I could make myself easily enough.
The service was slow, but the dessert was great. It's a great place to catch up with friends and family while you are waiting. The servers are very nice and are always scrambling to help everyone, so I gave a 5 star because they make an effort to please you.
Horrible experience . I was delivering food and I got a delivery from them . I Asked to use the washroom but the server straight told me “”NO YOU CANT USE IT. ITS ONLY FOR CUSTOMER””. We are delivering your food in this pandemic and you are saying only for customer . Extremely bad management .
I always have the best experiences with Baked Expectations. The food is so tasty and the staff are so nice! I recommend this restaurant to anyone who comes to Winnipeg!
this place had brutal service, found hair in food and they never once came to check back up on us. To get our server to actually help us we had to call upon her several times before she actually came. Once we were ready to pay the girl at the front was extremely rude and had an extremely sour look on her face. Was very disappointed and will not be going back.
This is the BEST dessert place in the city.
Only been there twice as of now, had amazing cheese cake the last time and today tried their dinner entre's and I'm in love the French fries are like kettle cooked chips but like fries and the chicken sandwich was seasoned and was still juicy and not dry at all really blew past my expectations.
Been ordering cake from here for years because they were the best in the city. Very disappointed to see the quality of the cakes has gone down. I recently ordered 3 slices of different desserts (one being tia maria) from here and all three were made with fake whip cream when they used to be made with real whipped cream.
This place is extremely overrated. The food isn’t very good either. Oh Doughnuts is a much better bakery with amazing donuts and the owners there are nice as well.
I was told I had a reservation for a party of 8 over the phone. When I arrived the manager told us they did not take reservations of that size and the entire party would have to arrive before we would be seated. I explained my situation but they wouldn't make any accommodations. I understand that they can get quite busy but when I arrived a quarter of the tables were still open. Buccacino's down the street sat us right away and we received amazing service
Usually our visits to Baked Expectations is very filling and full of sweet discussions, unfortunately yesterdays visit was a flop. We were charged $2 to buy a mask just to come into the store. Once in the store they had 6 pieces of dessert to choose from, none of which were appealing. Needless to say it wasn't the sweetest night. Maybe a phone call to see what they had before heading down next time would be a good idea.
We went around dinner on a Saturday. We ordered two pieces of cake and water. It took the staff around ten minutes to bring us the water and another ten minutes to bring us our cake. When I turned around to look at the staff, they were standing around and talking. It didn't seem very professional and I probably won't go back. The only reason my review isn't a one star is because the cake was pretty good.
Not the best cake i have had... could be better for sure. And why only debit and cash. We are in 21st century theres a thing called credit card too.
Had different cakes, several different times. The cakes are flavourless and dense, the cheesecakes are better but oddly flakey and not at all creamy. Save your cash, a Safeway cake has more flavour. For someone called Baked Expecations, they certainly don't meet them.
My sister and I stopped by to have a piece of cheesecake and had a great experience. There was a short line up of people waiting to sit in and everyone was seated very quickly. Our server, Lisa, was very nice and friendly! She gave great service and as an extra thanks, we bought her a piece of the lemon cheesecake! Will definitely be back for the tasty treats and friendly service.
The food menu is good, but this place is definitely all about the desserts! There are so many cakes that you'll have a hard time choosing just one. The slices are enormous. The inside is kitschy and cozy. It's a staple of the neighbourhood and definitely worth stopping by.
The macadamia nut latte and Pavlova are a must have!! So good.
Getting more disappointment bout their services. First time visit, waiting time is long, worst is when me and the waiters and waitresses have eye contact and still not come and greet with me. Second time, went with friend but their food is pricey for the amount. Third time went, they have their cake "hiding" since you have 45 mins before closing and all staff just standing behind the shelves, at lease the next time someone did mention they are having final call 30 mins before closing. Today went in, cutting size getting smaller and I just found out that ordering at Doordash is a dollar cheaper. And yet when I order and pick up in person can cost me more money. I do believe they have double standard of services and prices. I hope I saw it wrongly but I just saw right in front of me. Can anyone explained to me?
Ordered for take out a cherry cheesecake and received strawberry- would be nice if the business could supply what you ordered instead of what they need to get rid of.
Delicious desserts and coffee. Good place to go to after dinner. Often very busy but have never waited for a table.
