REVIEWS OF The Savvy Sailor Cafe IN Lunenburg

Terence Kot

Love their bacon, it is Oultons bacon.

Yan Teor

3rd time I go eat there and I've got to say, the service and the food is top notch! All their breakfast meals are quite small (mind that I'm roughly 6'4) but I've asked to add a 2nd potato rostie to my meal for a meer fee. Mind that they charge you for the coffee since it doesn't come with the meal as a "combo". Refeels are free as long as you have/ had a meal. Expect to pay between 30 - 40 CAD with tx. for a party of two.

Every summer vacation my wife and I make sure to visit this restaurant. Usually we have one of the versions of the eggs Benedict. It's always a wonderful meal. We have always had top notch service. The view from the deck is amazing. We love to sit and look over the Lunenburg harbor. Always great coffee.

Should NOT have ordered the scallop po’boy sandwich to go: they put it in the same container as the coke slaw so it was completely saturated with cole slaw juice: squishy sopping wet bread. Wasted $20 - but the scallop were salvageable so I gave an extra star. Eat IN ... or go elsewhere.

Amazing breakfasts and view!

Tori Dark

Best gluten free sandwich I've ever had! Bacon and scallop Po-boy with an O'Dough gf bun. Gluten-free free brownies for dessert and view of BlueNose II. Servers were very kind and polite. Overall best experience out East so far.

David Webster-Snoad

Great food and the staff where very friendly would highly recommend this to anyone plenty of food and hot with a great service

Aili Weaver

Best Eggs Benny I've ever had in my life. The hollandaise is TO DIE FOR. So good I had to come back the next day for it again. Loved the breakfast my husband ordered as well.

Eric Bear

The Savy Sailor is a nice eatery with both indoor and outdoor seating. Creative menu options abound, including some delicious seafood dishes I had never tried before. If you're up for dessert I highly recommend the date cake!

Carlos Rodriguez

Went here for breakfast. I had the French toast and my wife had the Eggs benedict on smoked salmon. The eggs were amazing, but I wasn't too impressed by the French toast.

Shannon Mykayla

Has potential, very quaint, quick service and very clean. My husband and I came here with our two little girls, and while the dining and atmosphere was pleasant, the breakfast portions left so much to be desired, especially for their price. French toast every where else comes with two pieces of bread, not one small piece of toast cut into. Also, when a breakfast is stated to come with banana slices, you'd expect at least half of a medium banana, instead 1/4 of a small banana. My husband's brekkie should have been twice the size for the price. In short, while the food tasted great, our tummies were not full, even after $54 of price, not $54 of food. If you're hungry, please go somewhere else. Sorry, but I'm honest.

Bradley Shaw

I had the BBQ pulled pork bun and a rumcake with a cup of coffee and everything g was delicious!

Dustin Newell

Really awesome spot with the option to eat indoors or out on the deck during the summer season. Don't expect to be in a fine-dining restaurant. The establishment seems to be focused on the food, and your company (friends and family) while enjoying it. The food is good, quick to the table, and reasonably priced. Staff is very friendly. This is a spot that you can easily make part of your weekly routine.

Christina Fraga

Wonderful place for breakfast. Very friendly staff, great view and amazing homemade strawberry jam.

Clement Cote

We went there to have a light, afternoon snack. Had the mezze plate, which was more than adequate. The patio is really nice and not too big.

Christine Fritz

Beautiful views and fast and friendly service make this little cafe a great place to stop for a late breakfast in Lunenburg. We had the classic eggs Benedict and the Florentine, both were perfectly executed with fluffy and crispy English muffins under perfectly poached eggs and hot creamy hollandaise. This is a dish served by many but the Savvy Sailor's version stands out above most and the prices are reasonable. 10/10 would go again.

Hytham Mokhtar

Wonderful view from the terrace. Very friendly hostess and amazing scallop tacos. The service was fast, and best of all, good espresso! Highly recommended.

Lorrin Province

Loved this place. Perfect cappuccino. Low key and relaxed with great views.

Ryan Sull

Amazing breakfast. If they ask for your name and number and give you a wait time, do it! It's definitely worth the wait. Top notch Benedicts and Frittatas

Philip Brodie

Only had one thing to eat here and let me say, if you like frenchtoast with perfectly crispy bacon and maple syrup on top, this is the place for you! Would eat there again for sure!

sara mcmurphy

oh my gosh! so delicious! lovely spot with lovely staff! ❤️

From Japan :) Great volume of lobsters roll! Loved coleslaw as well. Fairly priced. Definitely recommend!

Jemy Joseph

Absolutely wonderful customer service and truly DELICIOUS food!!! I had the card fish cake and my friend had the smoked salmon. Both were 10 out of 10. And to finish off, we had the famous from and raisin cake which was to die for! So thanks to other reviewers who recommended it! The view of the waters is beautiful from here. Looking forward to coming back again!

Matthew Rockwell

I love the Savvy Breakfast. Simple excellent food and great coffee. We always look forward to our next visit!

Paul Barton

Really great! Had a bloody Mary which was excellent and the Lunenburg breakfast with excellent homemade beans and really well crafted fishcakes. Definitely recommend this place

Stuart Millson

Not allowed to sit outside because of a hurricane. What is happening to this place?

matt karmil

Stopped in for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. We order coffee and a few breakfast platters. All come out in a timely matter even though they were quite busy. The food was worth what you paid for and it had good taste. The restaurant has a nice view of the marina in which you can sit inside or outside with a nice view. I’d stop in if your visiting or want a nice place to sit grab some food or coffee and watch the inlet.

Soleil Chahine

I stopped in for breakfast on my trip to Lunenburg, and it was very good. The ingredients were all local and fresh. The potato rosti that came with my dish was not great, it didn't have any crunch on the outside at all and was falling apart. The bacon and bread were the yummiest I have ever had in a breakfast. The London Fog lacked flavour.

Jordan Froese

The food was really good, the atmosphere was great, has a good view of the harbour. The only thing missing was fries. This is a place that feels like it would have fries with the sandwich, but it did not. That was my only disappointment.

Todd Smeed

The food was great, with sizable portions. We loved bread and the poached eggs and would recommend them.

Tamar Drushka Hewitt

Best breakfast in town. Really. The hollandaise sauce is sooo good; just ask them to put it on whatever you order! Lovely view of the Lunenburg harbour, nice deck in the summertime too.

Pj S

Amazing food!!!! Beyond tasty!!! I'm still drooling!!! The rum cake was to die for!!!!!!! Staff Amazing and so nice!! Thanks for the experience!!!!

Meghan Kersting

Very good food, great staff, AMAZING VIEW ????

Mark Christy

Great place to eat. Good breakfast and lunch options. I loved the Lobster Eggs Benedict, and the Scallop Tacos were amazing.

Andrew Tanner

As always every breakfast choice is awesome! Today the fish cakes were so yummy! Great salt cod traditional recipe!

Karen Hand

Overpriced. Four people, one of whom had a cup of soup, one who had grilled chicken panini. Small portions and no sides. Don't mind paying for a good lunch, this was not.

Jason M

Awesome little place. Excellent view and not as large as some of the other tourist restaurants. Friendly staff serving fresh seafood and local craft brews. This is what I pictured the east coast to be like.

Steven Yackel

The Savvy Sailor was a great place to enjoy an amazing breakfast and overlook the harbor of Lunenberg. We were able to get a seat quickly and the staff were very nice and attentive. I enjoyed a lobster benedict which had amazing claw meat from a lobster with poached eggs on an english muffin, smothered in hollandaise sauce. This was a real treat and a wonderful variance from your normal everyday style of eggs benedict. My wife had the bacon benedict which was also delicious, but most notable was the flavor of the bacon. The bacon was smoky and hearty, it was some really great bacon. They also serve a potato rosti as a side item you can add to your meal which were very good as well, we did have to salt it a bit, but it was something that we wanted to try while we were there. In addition, they have a really nice coffee bar here that makes some great coffee drinks.

Tammy Slauenwhite

This is a wonderful place to have breakfast. Beautiful views and super friendly staff that were very attentive, polite, and full of smiles. I had the eggs benny and my partner and high split some French toast. It was absolutely delish! I highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed.

Ithaca Court

Unexpectedly fantastic, seaside towns often have a decent breakfast place near the waterfront. This was beyond any expectations. My partner said it was the best breakfast of her life, and I'm inclined to agree for myself! Each ingredient was well thought out. Our server was not just great, but graceful. We lucked upon a phenomenal morning, sunny and beautiful, the restaurant took it to ever better heights. I love trying new places, but we will be back here tomorrow. I'll try to learn more about the owner and the chefs because they have created something wonderful.

John Sutton

Had breakfast here. Without exaggeration the best eggs Benedict I've ever had. My wife had the French toast and highly recommends it. Lovely view of the bay.

Robert Marshall

Food was excellent and service was the same. Would highly recommend!!

Jamie Johnston

Very good food. Friendly staff. It's a small space so getting a table may be hard at times but worth the wait!

crystal krammer

great value for the price, hurry in seating is limited!

Emerald Meadows

Moderately priced good food although the portions were small they were tasty. We had the scallops and haddock and shared. Not deep fried but pan fried to perfection.

Amanda s

Hands down, the best breakfast we had while in Nova Scotia! Stopped in around 10am on a Sunday in September and managed to get seated right away, no small feat, there was a line out the door when we left! Wait staff were very efficient and friendly. My husband ordered 'The Bennie's Atlantic' (Poached eggs w/ hollandaise and smoked salmon over organic ciabatta), he is still talking about it! I had the Open Faced Breakfast Sandwich, which sounds ordinary, but it was delicious! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, if the weather is nice you can sit on their deck overlooking the harbor. Forgive my photo skills, I always forget to take the pic until after we've started!

Joanne Duff

Great food but we found the restaurant a bit cramped/crowded. We had to wait in line for brunch on a weekend but got a good seat on the deck with a beautiful view of the waterfront when a tall ship was docked too.

Remeer (Remeer)

First time visiting Lunenburg and we picked this cute little place by the water, and it was delicious. We had the French toast and savvy breakfast and the eggs were gone in less than 12 seconds.

James Flacke

5 stars to me = Great food at a good price with great service- and a nice atmosphere. This restaurant has all of these. Too bad Google didn't even show it in the map- I suppose you'd have to pay for that. Kind of creepy. But the café: wonderful house cooked food. I had the eggs Bennie with ham leg, on home made whole grain toast. Perfectly cooked, perfectly plated; perfectly delicious. The latté was fine too. The view of the harbor from the deck was just a double bonus. Do yourself a favor and eat here!

Charlie & Lindsay

Terrific early breakfast on the raised patio overlooking the harbour. Great staff, good coffee and decently priced! Highly recommended.

Seth Congdon

Service here is always wonderful. The menu changes moderately, but the classics stay the same... Best smokehouse benny I've ever had!

Judy Hung

Amazing fish cakes and beans (very sweet beans, which I LOVE)! Coffee was extra, not included in the meal. Loved the smoked salmon as well! The French toasts were ok, though I loved the fact that it came with Nova Scotia maple syrup. Excellent service and view!

Kevin O'Toole

Breakfast on the deck overlooking the Bluenose II and the harbour on a sunny late September morning. Beautiful view and a couple of the best Eggs Benedicts (Florentine and Smoked Bacon versions) made for yet another wonderful Nova Scotian experience.

Tatianna Wong

Amazing breakfast place! I got the savvy breakfast, and they gave me a generous amount of eggs, and their toast was well buttered and toasted. With their jam, bottomless coffee, and the amazing view, it was a great start to the morning =)

Will Guthro

Popped in for lunch on Monday, July 2. Overall poor service, we had to wait 5-10 minutes before any of numerous servers even acknowledged us. There were some major quality issues with more than one menu item we ordered - the fish for the lemon pepper haddock was definitely off, the meat in the chicken cranberry panini was very dry, like it had been left sitting for some time, and a sizeable bone was left in. Judging from other reviews, perhaps ours was an isolated experience but I don't think we will be returning.

Joanne Taylor

Great service, friendly and quick. Very clean and doing everything to keep people safe during this trying time (covid) Food is fantastic and would recommend this place to anyone visiting Lunenburg, NS (People who live here already know this is a great place) We'll be back Savvy, keep up the great work and stay safe

Ghost Busters

The food and scenery is excellent. The waitress had a bit of an attitude for our liking. She kept giving my wife looks, when (my wife) asked questions regarding the smoked salmon. And didn’t even come to ask how the food was after we started eating. I’d reconsider having her on your wait staff if I were you

Lynn Morrison

My hiking pals and I stopped in for brunch after completing the Rum Runners Trail. Great breakfast menu. Stunning water views in beautiful, historic Lunenburg

Amanda Hugandkiss

Not recommend. The staff was nice, the pork tacos were horrible, so greasy and tasted like sloppy joes, All mush no crunch. Lobster roll tasted like old lobster, very very Briney and chewy. "Mojito" was legit sprite with mint leaves on top.. there may have been alcohol in it, but doubtful. Also, bathroom door doesn't lock. I recommend going anywhere else.

AJ Stokes

Great breakfast! We both had the specials, but I imagine everything on the menu is good based on our experience. The view was excellent. Service was a bit slow, but we were there at the lunch rush. Also, as the menu warned, I’m still thinking about the Peanut Butter pie!

Marc Garlasco

Breakfast rocks. For lunch the paninis are all excellent. The sliders are tasty but small. Forget the lobster roll - more bread than meat.

Buffy Silver

The breakfast frittata is to die for! Fantastic coffee as well. It's very small and busy, and sometimes hard to get a seat. That's the only negative.

tim canterbury

Came here for lunch with a friend. I ordered the scallops and cappuccino. the food was amazing! Service could be a bit better but still, I am quite pleased!

Scott Lee

Awesome place for lunch. Ordered the lobster roll and it was so delicious. Excellent selection of local craft beers as well. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. I highly recommend.

Jen Webster

Such a sweet little café. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Food was fantastic and a great drink selection. Wonderful experience and we highly recommend stopping in for a snack.

Claudine Gerin-Lajoie

Best scallops we've eaten in Nova Sctia!!

KIMBERLEY RICKER

Cafe style little place. I had the salt cod fish cakes but could not taste the salt nor the cod but it was paired with a rhubarb relish which was quite nice actually. My husband had the fish burger, he said it wasn't bad but not his favorite. The portions are small and the prices are high.

Bri G

Great food and Bud the waiter was awesome. Went on our honeymoon and had to eat there twice in the two days because was awesome

Daniel DiVito

We came here for the lobster rolls. Although the bread was good the lobster meat portions were skimpy and had bits of she'll in them. Quite a few shell pieces in mine. The servers didn't seem to care about that. Very disappointed. They do have a good selection of beer though and a good view.

Martin Kirkham

Beans on toast (not Heinz but red bean).. Very delicious although might have a sweetness some won't like, poached egg and coffee with refill. The other breakfast menu items looked good too. Have eaten lunch here too, but I can't remember what. Worth a visit.

Georges Richard

Great food, service, and location. My frittata was so good, I had it two mornings in a row. My husband's Savvy Brekkie was great, as well. Bonnie R

Roger Bell

Our first dining experience in historic Lunenburg. It was rated highly, and did not disappoint! The staff was friendly while providing top-notch service. We were there for breakfast, so I will strongly recommend the Maritime Bennies.

David Carlson

I had the chicken wrap which was delicious. The inside seating was clean, well spaced and comfortable. The outside seating had a wonderful view of the harbor.

Joelle Frigault

Definitely in love with this little restaurant!!! I went to Lunenberg and stoped their both times. Once for breakfast and once for lunch. The location is perfect. You can sit on the balcony or inside, both option are amazing. The view is incredible. The food taste excellent . If your looking for fried cantine food this is not the place. But if you like smaller serving with lots of flavour this is your spot ????.

Kristina Shirai

The breakfast was really good, we got our food very quickly, delicious coffee, nice view.

Bite Me

Two stars for food taste only!! Our napkins (paper) were both stained when we sat down. These were quickly changed. My coffee mug had someone's lipstick on it. My wife's cup had some sort of white stain on it (egg)?? And, there was a piece of tin foil in my toast!!! Then we waited ages for our bill and when we got it had trouble paying because the girl at the till was high on something other than life!!! Won't be back.

Jera Spence

The fish burger and peanut salad was awesome. Would def recommend!

Philip V

Wonderful seafood, wonderful views of the harbour, and friendly servers.

Terina Pickering

Fantastic food, prepared well, flavor wonderful, staff and service excellent! Thank you for yet another fabulous brunch, SS!

Matty Lowe

Very nice cafe with great views. My wife and I ate lunch there today. She had chicken cranberry panini, I ordered fish cakes with coleslaw. I was disappointed with the fish cakes, they were smaller and more delicate than I am accustomed too. Hard to detect the salt cod, however when our server asked how our meal was, I told her that I was unhappy with the fishcake. Also the coleslaw was overly salty but a generous portion was served. Without hesitation or attitude she immediately offered to replace with another menu item. I chose the panini with chicken and cranberry. My wife and I both agreed the panini was delicious. This restaurant aims to please The staff is well versed in customer service. I recommend eating here,

Chandler Nicolucci

Staff are super friendly. Their traditional breakfast is very simple but delicious. Their dark roast coffee is great as well. Bottomless Coffee and a big breakfast for 15$ is a pretty good price too.

Rachel Bood

On two occasions I went to Savvy Sailer and looking forward to a great breakfast but the service ruined the experience. I was ignored while I waited to be seated, I was ignored and wasn't offered any beverage refills, I was ignored while I waited patiently for the bill. I want to be a regular there but after the terrible service that won't be happening.

margo valens

So awesome fish sandwich and scallop po' boy. We stopped for lunch today and were very impressed. Friendly staff and the good was fantastic!!

Marsha

Great spot for a very fulfilling breakfast. We both ordered the Savvy Brekkie. Two eggs, poached, fried, or scrambled, with two thick slices of Oulton’s smoked bacon, potato rosti, served on buttered local organic seven grain toast. Incredible. Looking forward to going back again.

Jim Wadleigh

Knows how to make a real cappuccino, not milky, vaguely coffee- flavoured baby bottle.

Dave Pate

Smaller cafe style with outdoor deck seating overlooking Lunenburg harbour front, very beautiful view. Food good/prices and staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Only open for breakfast and lunch.

Patty Kester

The food was unbelievably delicious! Freshly prepared and tasty. The seafood chowder and the fish (haddock) burger was the best I've ever had. The peanut butter pie was so good that I requested the recipe but no luck. To bad I live so far away from the restaurant. I already want to go back for more!

Daniel Edwards

Great place for brunch, it's a bit basic inside but there's a nice view of the bay and the food was good.

Stephen Beehan

Great food and a patio overlooking the harbour with good views. Illy espresso is served to compliment the brunch menu.

Ksenia Zaiats

Enjoyed their breakfast, food menu with choices even for someone with dietary restrictions. Accommodated my mom no issues at all with her being gluten and dairy free. Attentive servers. No beer on draft but they do have local beer in cans and bottles. Great selection of coffee too.
