Staff, especially the owner/manager are quite arrogant and rude at times. The baked goods are all very good thou so we keep going back. We would go every day if customers were treated politely. They do have the best cheese cake in town. Custom cakes are not the greatest.

The desserts and bake goods are amazing, but the waitress had a very impatient ambience about her and seemed grumpy. It sort of made me feel unwelcome. It's one thing to have great food and coffee but nobody will come back if they don't get consistent and kind service. Remember your customers keep you in business and is the reason you have a job. If you're having a bad day learn to overcome that and crack a smile anyways. That's just the way life is.

This is one of my new favourite places to get bread and sweets. In fact the biggest challenge I have is not eating too much here because thier products are so tasty! You can get by with a $2 breakfast sandwich with your morning coffee, or jump in and make everyone at work happy with tarts, doughnuts, pastries, or rice pudding. There's so much, and so little time to try it all. Just go and enjoy!

Everything I've tried at this bakery has been incredible! Mini roll cakes, the russo, croissants, cod fish cakes, sweet buns, and of course all the tarts!! One of the best strawberry shortcakes, too. I'm running out of pants that fit, but there's no looking back now..

Chicken club sandwich was sizeable, but a little dry. Iced coffee wasn't really strong... But the desserts (traditional custard tart and squash tart) were delicious. Service was also good. Would probably come again to try some other tarts.

The service at this place has gone really downhill compared to when Id go there a year and a half ago. It seems like there's only a single person employed there who knows what they're doing, the manager. The food is pretty good, but if you ever wanted a "quick" place to grab a breakfast sandwich, expect to wait at least 20 minutes. That's been my experience the last 4 times I've been.

Come here quite often, great products,very tasty, a bit pricey. Staff seem to want to help but there's never enough people on shift. Looks chaotic to work here, they don't seem to have a system like one person takes the order & payment but another person prepares it. I'm from a restaurant background and it's painful for me to watch. I do wonder if all locations work this way or just this one cause it's kinda tiny.... Great place but be ready for a wait cause lots.of people come here. They do currently have some indoor seating and there's a patio. Apparently you have to pay to park tho, I walk so I'm not certain.

So yummy and fresh! Coffee is great and perfectly compliments all desserts. I'm from toronto but just recently moved here, we have nova in Toronto to, however I feel the shop in london is smaller it doesn't effect anything. I also feel there were more baked goods in the Toronto location, but again it doesn't really effect anything, you still have great fresh options at the london spot. :) its tottally recommended and it's not far from la moods new comic book location , so I think I'm going to hit up this Cate location more often :)

We ordered cake from them, they decorate our cake exceeding our expectation. We asked them to decorate the cake using our own design. We agreed that we will supply our own fruits and flowers for the specific design, but due to the shortage in the edible flower market, we cannot find flowers. They bought flowers and fruits for us that we did not supply, and made a beautiful cake for us which exceeds our expectation and with no additional charge. We cannot thank them more.

Horrible customer service and overall experience :( I thought it was only me but found other similar reviews. I never even leave reviews but I think ppl should know they're getting moldy cakes. Went in and waited for someone to help me, the girl up front walked past the register like ten times without acknowledging there were customers waiting, until finally she called someone from the back to help. But that wasn't the biggest problem, you're busy, I can be patient, no worries. The biggest problem was when I looked at the birthday cake I had ordered on the way home, just to make sure it was the right size and flavour, I was shocked to find MOLD on the strawberries, so I called them and they said I could come back and get a refund or exchange it. It sounded like this was not the first time this had happened. I got there, the girl took the cake in the back and disappeared. After a while, three or four girls came out at once with the cake to tell me they saw nothing wrong with the cake. I politely pointed out how there was literal mold, and the girl holding the cake said it's only on the leaves though, not on the strawberries. Plus all the other cakes are like that. Ummmmm, okay. So y'all just have moldy cakes. The girl beside her also questioned me and asked: "How were you able to look at the cake? The tape isn't broken, I don't know how you looked at it." But of course, I had actually broken the tape on the two sides, and then peeled the top one. I don't know what she was trying to imply, I just wanted a non-moldy cake. What's my motive? To get a refund? Then I still have no cake. At this point, I didn't want to argue with them or endure them all talking at me anymore, so just asked for a refund and left with no birthday cake. No one apologized or recognized any wrongdoing on their part. She just threw the refund at me and moved on. Now, I know that during COVID, businesses are suffering, and everyone is going through a rough time. But I feel this service and attitude to be appalling and unacceptable. Extremely disappointed and won't ever be going back :(

A great cafe/bakery with a mix of Portuguese specialty foods with delish custard tarts. So very looking forward to being able to eat in once again as the new owners have made some subtle decor changes to further elevate that which was already a vibrant cafe. With regard to service and quality during a very difficult time for most businesses the Nova Era gang are (in my opinion and experience) going above and beyond. The staff are cheerful and engaging despite having what has to be a more stressful time of providing their high quality of food and service. Thanks to them we and many of our friends have been de stressing over some excellent pastry and it is these small luxuries that can sometimes make an otherwise blah day turn around. Definitely worth a trip to treat yourself or others to some yummy sweets or savoury (or a great lunch to go). Two big thumbs up Nova Era!!!!!!!!

This Bakery is one of the best Portuguese Bakery’s in town, they create a lot of different, delicious baked goods, the customer service is wonderful, it’s a nice little coffee shop that serves some meal foods as well. If you haven’t tried it yet don’t hesitate!

On a Saturday afternoon we reached around 3:50pm and barely realized it was almost closing time. However they were very accommodative and did take the order. Pretty much most of the desserts were over so we just got a big coconut ring and latte/mocha. Coconut ring was fresh and slightly crispy - perfectly sweet and coconut flavors. Latte and mocha was very good as well. Mocha tasted awesome since I believe it had been months I tried my favorite drink at a local cafe. They have now opened the outdoor seating. Highly recommend!! Do maintain social distancing and try to do takeaways whenever possible.

Long story short, ordered a birthday cake. Came in a week later, they gave us a different cake and didn't tell us when we picked it up. Opened the box at home, saw it was wrong, called and was told they were closing. Stuck with no birthday cake, came in next day to return it and demand a refund. Manager said it was swapped out because they didn't have the cake we ordered (even though it was ordered well in advance). Didn't give a reason why they didn't call us to ask if it was ok to do the swap. Eventually got a refund after calling head office. Staff here are poorly trained (said our cake order was no problem when obviously, it was), manager has no customer service skills (didn't call to ask if substitution was ok). What if someone had a severe allergy?!! Will never ever do business here again.

My boyfriend and I usually come here once a month and love the chicken on a bun, lately we noticed that the buns are smaller and the sandwiches are not as full. I think they are cheaping out because of Corona virus. Sad to see. May have to find a new deli to eat at.

Very wide selection of assorted delicious pastries as well as Portuguese-style buns and bread. They also have a small section for Portuguese cheeses, cold cuts, and sausage (chorico). They recently added an outdoor patio as well. It is a nice little gem, located close to the Western Fair agri-plex.

I can not say enough good things about this bakery. The baked goods being the main reason you'll come here are great. Everything is made to be delicious, sweet and savory. The baked goods and sandwiches I have bought have always been fresh and tasty. Their coffee is also great and of note is their cappuccino which goes very well with the bakery items and is delicious. The establishment has always been clean whenever I have visited. The servers/barista are all friendly and attend to you as soon as they are able to.

My husband and I really enjoy this bakery. We went in and ordered a few things to try out. We enjoyed almost everything that we ordered. The bun with custard, the mini cheesecakes and the cannoli were particularly good. We weren't a huge fan of the almond tart but otherwise everything was good. NEVER ORDER FROM THIS BAKERY! I provided FRESH flowers for them to place on top of my cake 2 days before the event with a guarantee that my flowers will still be fresh. When my cake arrived less than an hour before my event all my WHITE flowers on top of my cake were BROWN from being cut and placed in the cake too early. The fact that my cake was even delivered in this condition is extremely disappointing!

We visited this store to buy some portuguese baked good, and have some espresso. As we were about to order I mentioned it was going to be to stay, immediately we were told there are no tables available, we looked around and there were at least 2 individuals with there Laptops taking two 4 seating tables. We Spent over $40 in bakery to take home, and EVERyTHiNG was stale! The eclairs were hard solid and dry as bones. The milk custard tasted like it had been in that display for over a week. The other custards you could barely bite thought the crust. Very disappointed and won’t return. We are better of driving 45min to Mississauga to Lazar Bakery, where everything portuguese is fresh and never disappointing.

Omfg, the fat waitress has a stick up her butt or something! For the place with pretty good pastry, the service is the kind you want to burn the place down for, I ll come back to this place time and time again but just so that I can show the waitress a piece of my mind! Edit: A little background, this was my first time here so I wanted to look and see what selection they have, and it looked really good so I took photos with snapchat and posted to my friends. And I got a warning from the waitress that I cant do that, which is pretty standard so I politely appologized and put my phone in the pocket. Later as I was telling her what I wanted, she asked me 3 times " is that all?" in a really really pushy way as if she doesnt want me to order more(absurd, I know right?). And then I had a question about what one of the pastries was called, she was very very rude and impatient about explaining to me what it was. Like as if she was correcting me not informing me. Very confrontational experience. Did not expect this from a bakery. Eating the selection I bought right now. Definitely not worth it.

After reading some of the reviews and going there the staff really needs to work on being polite to the customers what would help is greeting customers when they come in and letting them know if they are standing in the wrong area to order food i stood there for 15 min 3 employees made eye contact noone said anything the another customers walks in up toside bar area and they take his order while my friend and i are clearly standing at counter obviously in the wrong spot no sign saying please order here .and no even said hi 15 min and then after that we walked out very disappointed cuz the food is pretty good and i like the place but the people working there suck....

The people at the service counter were really rude. I would've given it a 2 if it weren't for their baked goods and pastries. There's nothing spectacularly different about their pastries but I love the variety and price. The famous custard tart is $1.25 + tax (and +$0.25 fee if pay by debit). The place only accepts cash or debit right now. There are also outlets along the wall but I wouldn't recommend settling down and doing any work here. It's got a more of a diner feel than coffee shop.

Not too happy with Nova Era. I've been there before in the afternoon to pick up a loaf of bread only to find out that they've sold out of almost everything. So I figured I'd show up early to make sure I get a good selection. They open at 8, I show up at 9, but none of the bread is cool enough to be sliced! The girl tells me to come back in an hour! That's two full hours where the bread is not ready for sale even though they open at 8am. Sounds to me like they don't start making their bread early enough. It would be nice to know when stuff is actually available for sale?

It would be nice if they joined the 21st century with credit cards. While waiting for my order I spied the owner making a sandwich, no gloves, take a look at this guy and you tell me if you think he's the cleanliest person on the planet. Not the easiest place to get to, and there are plenty of other options in London. *Update* went back with cash, girl behind the counter was very nice. Owner still kind of a jerk. The Confections were awesome and the coffee was real good.

This is my closest bakery, and it has always provided a good selection of breads and cakes. You have the options of buns and rolls for making sandwiches, or baguettes and loaves for inside the house. I can't get enough of the sourdough baguette! Their sweets selection is also great for those with a sweet tooth. Although I do not often sit down and am yet to try their in-house sandwiches, everyone I have seen sat within seems content, and there are regulars that frequent the place often. I look forward to returning once normalcy has returned. The bread will flow once more!

I am very disappointed with the chocolate croissant, custard tart and coffee. The pastries don't taste as homemade, they have very artificial flavour and they were not fresh. If you haven't visited this lovely bakery, I would highly suggest you make the pilgrimage. The prices are very reasonable considering the very high quality of breads and baked goods they offer. I visited for lunch and had their chicken club and it was excellent. One suggestion I have however; ensure that you arrive earlier in the morning as they will most likely be out of the breads and goods that are in higher demand. I would also suggest that you order cakes ahead of time as they are in high demand especially around the holidays. Two suggestions for breads: dark rye and the sourdough. Also ensure that you grab some of their custard tarts. If you think that 6 or so is enough you are terribly wrong - double whatever you were originally intending to purchase as you will understand once you try one.

So, while this bakery has beautiful pastries, the environment has been unwelcoming every time I've gone in. The staff seem irritated while you are ordering and paying. I'm wondering if this has to do with the ownership or management. Maybe the owner needs to do more to make sure their employees feel supported. I've gone in several times and it's been like this everytime. My partner has been coming here for many years and says it's always been an unwelcoming environment.

If i could give a 0 I would. The lady at the front was so rude and replied as if I was a pain in her arse! I clearly said "Chocolate eclair" and she gave me the normal ones and I may have been confused as to how they refer to their pasrties but when I returned and said to her "I'm sorry, I wanted the chocolate cream ones." she replied back to me "They're mocha." She took the eclairs from the bag I had returned to her and put the eclairs back into the display case and grabbed 2 new "mocha eclairs". I am NEVER coming back here. Customer service is out of the window and what if I had dropped the eclairs outside and handed them back to her. Cleanliness is definitely in question. I would not recommend going to this place EVER!

My wife called ahead to see if an order could be made by phone. The bakery accepted payment by phone and put the order together. Upon pickup and during the height of Covid activity in our city (Jan 4th 2021). The woman who put together our order (handled our food) would not wear her mask properly and had the mask under her nose the whole time I was there (15 min). Also "there was a problem with the credit card payment" so I had to pay by debit at the desk. Payment may not be a problem but with how things went indoors, I won't be surprised if we are double billed. We will be re-baking our food as a precaution and will not be coming back... EDIT: My concern is not about convenience. It is primarily about health and safety. The woman with a hospital mask did not have it over her nose. I know this because I had a conversation with her. The other woman with a fabric mask was able to wear hers properly. Check your cameras again because that is not accurate information. 5 minutes may be true, if that makes a difference to you. But as I entered the mask was down and as I left it was no different. Glad to hear payment wasn't a problem...

Their tarts are good which is why I decided to try other offering when I was nearby. Took 20 minutes to prep my ice latte while leaving my tiramisu on the front counter where another customer without mask came in and start yelling in close proximity to my desert which was totally exposed. The mask-less man was not told to wear a mask, and the staff were also taking her mask off multiple times while talking with him toward my plate because they have a plastic curtain hanging above the counter. Unacceptable especially when the pandemic is still here. Won't be back again for my own safety.

I absolutely love this bakery. They have a large selection of goods to satisfy any craving. Parking is great and easily accessible, which is great since this is downtown Kitchener and parking is almost always an issue. I bought a cheesecake and it was so delicious. First time trying this bakery. I got some pastries to go including a lemon tart - tasteless besides the raw flour taste. Éclair - which was dry and instead of cream filling had a custard filling. Pastel de nata, which I loved when I tried them in Lisbon, was not even close to the very crispy pastry, fresh cooked everyday right in front of customers. Today, I went to Nova Era to pick up my usual (delicious) tiramisu square and tart this Saturday evening and was shocked when I stood at the register for 15+ minutes while the woman behind the counter serviced everyone around me & took orders from the side of the counter. I would have been fine with waiting, as it was busy, but they purposely ignored me and would not acknowledge me or make eye contact with me. I was incredibly unimpressed and I ended up leaving the cafe cakeless. As someone who works in and provides great quality customer service, I expect it when I go out on my time off.

Purchased turkey deli slices, a tiramisu square, black plain coffee, and an americano here through Uber Eats; everything was absolutely delicious! The tiramisu was smooth and not overly sweet. If you like the taste of tiramisu, but don't like anything too sweet, you'd love their tiramisu! Tiramisu is one of my favorite desserts, but I've always struggled finding bakeries with cakes not loaded with sugar. The turkey deli slices were also soft and delicious! It's a little on the too salty side, truth be told. I don't usually like turkey, but I still found it delicious--so, make of that what you will. If you use it in a recipe, you can probably skip adding salt. The coffee themselves were very easy to drink; you'd like their americano and plain black coffee if you like coffee that doesn't have a bitter taste/aftertaste. I'll definitely be ordering more from them in the future! I'd love to taste their other sweets and breads next time. The smiley face and "Thank you" message drawn on the delivery bag were very cute, too!

Bad customer service the cashiers accused me of using a stolen bank card , I was next in line to two white men that had already used the stolen card to purchase their food and fled to another store to use the stolen card and was tracked by the owner on his cellphone. Next time they should look at their security camera before telling the owner of the card. The card owner follow me to the bus stop, wouldn’t let me leave and called the police on me. asked how I paid for my purchase, if I used his card and I said no. I helped them by saying where I lived and I saw those two men came from the shelter next door to my apt as I walked to the coffee shop this morning. I've been here a few times. The coffee and the pastries are great. The most recent visit was a little strange, in that they could make one cappuccino every 5 minutes, and they only had about 10 dine-in cappuccino cups for the whole store so they asked us to change drinks (we just asked them to give us paper cups instead). I visited the bakery around 3:30 pm on 31st. I was waiting in front of the cashier and going to make my order and payment just like other stores. But I saw other customers make their choices in front of the products and cut in the pay line, then I realized their system is that way. When I finally got my turn to the cashier clerk, I told I was confused and asked if I could make my choice and pay here as I know what I want. But she told me to go to the order line. I was waiting enough as others cut in the pay line and when I looked at the length of the order line, I knew that their products are not that worth spending that much more time. The thing I am really disappointed by is the cashier's attitude. She stared at me and told to go to the order line in a tone of being annoyed, although I gently explained and asked. If they had clear sign of order line and pay line somewhere above heads, I would not waste my time and that is what I told but she still rudely pointed to tell me to go back of the order line.

A very economical place for lunch and pastries. However the ordering process is messy, and don't be surprised if they forget your order here. It has a small dining space as well. Most of the staff is relatively friendly, and the pastries are fairly good and cheap. However the sandwiches were never impressive. The reason for the low rating is that it annoys me when people behind me all get their orders and I am still waiting.

Horrible experience! My partner placed an order for a specific time and date for a cake for my birthday. Arrived at the bakery and they weren't aware of the order. They seem to have a fresh supply of them pretty consistently so we ended up being able to have a strawberry shortcake. Second day of the cake which has been in the fridge, I find this very appealing moldy strawberry on the cake. Called the store and staff suggested a refund if I bring in the cake. Also, staff was trying to excuse above as "we may have not placed an order... We may have just asked if there was availability..." and that strawberries are not in season right now.. or maybe whoever was making the cake put a strawberry which is slightly off by mistake. If strawberries are not in season, don't make a cake with them if you can't ensure the quality. Either way, pretty horrible experience with the cake and customer service. I also had their bagel sandwich and soup of the day which were very good but above has ruined my experience and I DO NOT plan on going back.

Sad to say, but I was pretty disappointed with the quality! I was very much looking forward to trying this bakery since moving close by, and purchased an eclair and tiramisu. The tiramisu was mediocre, didn't love it but not bad; the eclair had custard not cream (yuck- but maybe my fault for not asking) but also, the donut itself was completely stale, I couldn't even eat it. This made me wonder how long things are sitting out front. While this could have been a fluke and maybe other items are fresher, I don't really have any reason to try going back and risk buying stale, old food.

I was feeling for some cake, googled and this one was the closest to me. So I came here, excited to have my cravings satisfied. First turn off was the customer service, a gentleman and I stood at the counter for a full 10mins before we even got acknowledged. I didnt mind because I was focusing on selecting my desserts but he was getting visibly upset. We eventually made chatter and he recommended a few desserts to me. When it was my time to be served, the server's face was least pleasant and she seemed so annoyed with me, for what reason I'm not sure. The only reason I kept ordering was because I really wanted the cake. I wanted to order a whole bunch of different stuff but cut my order short because of the rude customer service. Sadly the food looked more delicious than they tasted :(.

I come here for custard tarts whenever I’m in the KW area. They make some of the best ones I’ve ever had!! The crusts are crispy but the tart overall is still soft and squishy. The custard inside is perfectly smooth and they’re heavenly to bite into. I highly, highly recommend them! I’ve tried a few of the other desserts here as well and have yet to be disappointed. There is a decent amount of seating in case you’d like to dine in.

I drove all over the city looking for a cheesecake that was jazzed up enough to present as a legitimate Cheesecake Birthday for a last minute affair. My final stop was Nova Era Bakery. From the moment I walked in the energy was different. There were loyal customers and new customers like myself all enthusiastically looking through the cake display glass eager to order delectable desserts. The team all seemed to work effortlessly together to keep the flow of customers moving efficiently. The items were also priced affordably. The cake was nice, and for the most part I was pleased. I would in future ensure more fresh toppings to increase satisfaction with quality of product provided to match the service seamlessly.

It takes me an IMMENSE amount of frustration to even begin to leave a somewhat negative review, let alone suggest a zero star. ... but that’s how bad this experience was. Between Skip and this restaurant they completely dropped the ball. I put in an almost $100 order at 5:30 am Central time, scheduling the delivery for 8:30 am - 9 am. As it was a slightly bigger order, I wanted to ensure the restaurant had ample time to prepare, and not run out of stock for their other customers.As I’m out of province, I thought it would be nice to support local and send an Easter gift using Skip. Terrible idea. They processed the order in Central time rather than eastern time— 2 hours difference. This makes no sense, because that means I could schedule an order that would occur after closing. This rationalization fell on deaf ears.(FYI- there is no time zone option). Absolutely no remorse, apology, or regret here. I called the restaurant before even calling Skip— no one would answer. Called Skip, had to have the order canceled. They were zero help and I was forced to redo the whole order. They would not help adjust, remedy, or do anything to be of assistance except cancel the order. Now, when Skip cancels an order it takes 3-5 business days to refund. So rather than help me, they made me give them another $100, and because of the long weekend pro a lot won’t be back in my account until next Friday. Luckily, I can swing that— no problem. But what about the people that can’t? Moving on, as I am placing my forced reorder, of course, by then some items were sold out. Fine. Happens. The second order indicates that the estimated time to do this order is15 minutes. Perfect! This could be salvageable!Right? Wrong. Within 30 seconds of placing my second $100 order, the order a message pops up that they need 45 minutes. I call the restaurant a third time- this time they pick up. ...yea! This is fixable! Right? Wrong. For a province about to go implement a “Covid brake” ( not a typo) it sounded like a nightclub in there. I’m so glad I wasn’t there in person because judging by the multiple other voices yelling almost right into the phone, I’d say the whole six feet thing was out the window. Either way, I tell the girl what has happened. She can’t hear me. I repeat it. It goes on. No apology, no reaction, and no ownership on the restaurant’s end. Being extremely polite still, despite their lack of care, I asked really nicely if there’s any way to try to do what they could to make it faster at all.. being that there’s already been a 2 hour time zone “mix up” and now an additional 45 minute wait.Their response was that they’re just really busy and something along the lines of they need time to make it. My order did not have one thing that needed to be made! My goodness. No sandwiches. No cooking. Just donuts and muffins. If you’re reading this, you’re probably thinking “ but you ordered 100 bucks in donuts and muffins! That’s a lot.” This isn’t Tim’s. the average price of the pastries I ordered was like $2.50 a piece. So after tax and tip and delivery fee, this wasn’t a massive order whatsoever.That being said, all they had to do was put the order in a box and press the page button for the courtier. However, it basically was made out that they would get to it when they could. Meaning everyone who was coming in person was still going to get precedence over my order until they found the time to box it.They did assure me however that they would make it. Whatever that means. I hope you would make a $100 order for a customer who’s gone out of their way to support local... and gone through an hour of complete ridiculousness to ensure the order was being delivered. At the very least, yes, I hope you would make it. Do they often cancel orders there? I have no idea, but it was the strangest response to all of this. Delivery driver was amazing and should probably be a manager for either team. Only person who did their job correctly. Went above & beyond. As for the food? No idea. Don’t care. Got there. NEVER AGAIN.

Simulated bacon bits, premade croutons with too much cheap dressing. I hope the romaine was washed but I am doubtful. The sandwich tasted ok but it was clearly not fresh, it was poorly constructed and dry to a point that I had to drink after every bite. Then came time to pay with the gift card... The cards are down, something to do with head office and we can't fix it. So I am now told I have to pay cash. No. I dropped the gift card, said that will cover it, and left. Won't be back and will ensure everyone knows how poor the service and food is.

I got this Raquel girl for my server and she was very kind and professional, I asked for a prego sandwich but she told me to get a bifanna Instead, that sandwich changed my life. So I left a hefty tip and proceeded to pursue my dreams because that sandwich made me want to try harder in life. I am now the CEO of a multi million dollar buisness and it's all thanks to that sandwich.

Good luck finding parking you got a big blue machine that takes half of the parking and the Construction workers take the other have i don't get it my grandma aint walking 5min to get bread maybe we'll come back after the Construction is done but till then you guys gotta fix the parking problem

Why do the people behind the counter act like you are there to beg for food? Their attitudes were aweful. Come on people, exercise some customer service. Cracking a smile doesn't cost u anything. BTW, the sourdough tasted like regular bun, not sourdough at all.

Let me preface this review by saying that I have a considerable bias when it comes to Portuguese food, restaurants, and bakeries. This is because my fiancee is portuguese and we are used to travelling Portugal, or visiting Toronto Portuguese and Brasilian bakeries, where all of the staff and customers are Portuguese. We have enjoyed great authentic Portuguese food. Our experience at Nova Era Bakery was surprisingly disappointing. Service was good but the server who helped us didn't speak Portuguese (this is fine, just surprised us) or seem to know the names of the desserts. My fiancee and I don't know the names of the desserts in English so ordering was surprisingly difficult. The espresso was great. The crust on the pastel de nata was fantastic; crunchy and flaky. The custard filling, however, was a bit plain. The nata do ceu tasted different than what we are used to. My fiancee describes the taste as "processed". I am not sure that I agree. I simply feel that something was missed or sacrificed in the preparation process. The queijada tasted good but the texture was different than what we have seen before. To sum up, despite a lot of criticisms about the food, this bakery is okay. Not great. Not bad. Just okay. Don't go here if you are looking to be transported to Portugal for a meal. But if you are looking for a 'Portuguese themed' experience then this place will due.

I enjoy the European atmosphere here. The food is delicious and when you walk in your eyes are immediately drawn to a showcase full of decadent pastries, desserts, and baked goods. However, this is the second time I have been and the service wasn’t wonderful. There seems to be a lot of confusion among the staff as to who does what. They also talk back to one another and their machinery seems to always have a glitch. Service is just as important as the food and atmosphere which is why I’m only giving Nova Era three stars today. With a little improvement in customer service I would be happy to give this place 5 stars.

After 2 times visiting this bakery,I will not recommend this bakery. It's a waste of the money and time. Very dirty tables,floors,and unorganized staff.Coffee tastes awful, terrible. No bread or any other baked goods in mid of the noon or evening. Snobby attitude of waitress .

They have great tarts, custard filled desserts and bread - the baguettes are amazing! Very reasonably priced as well. Service can be a little bit slow, and the last time I got an iced coffee, AFTER I had already paid for it, I was informed they had no ice. Overall though, great place for desserts!

Recently moved from toronto to London and my boyfriend who is Portuguese decent loves this bakery and we would visit quite frequently at toronto and Vaughan location. We were blown away with the quality of the food and pastries & dessert only downfall was not everyone is Portuguese spoken & our waitress had to ask us what our order was.
