This Bakery is classified in the category of Bakery.
Half turkey sandwich tasted great but the price was more full sandwich appropriate. Great selection if deli meats, cheeses, desserts. I will go back for the deli but not likely for lunch.
Thank you to the staff at Nougat for the lovely White Chocolate Raspberry cake for my husband's 65th birthday. The sponge cake, raspberry cream and light fluffy icing were delicious! I also bought shortbreads and iced Christmas cookies which my family have enjoyed. They followed COVID-19 protocols which I appreciated. Stay safe. Regards, Dianne McCabe
Wonderful desserts and coffee.
This place is a nice gem in my neighbourhood. It is expensive but well worth the price. Delicious treats, cakes and coffee. Never tried their deli but their sweets overshadow it.
Great selection and takes me back to when I was a kid growing up
Getting to pricey for me.
Soooo good!
Great euro food. Seems they did away with sandwich bar and coffee staff so service isn't as quick as it used to be.
Not much grocery stock, cakes are excellent, bakery is worth your trip out of the way.
Nice people, DELICIOUS cakes!
Nice and cozy store with lots of yummy treats. I liked their collection and their cake was so fresh and delicious. The lady at the counter was very helpful
I was there yesterday thinking they were open on Father's Day - oops, I was wrong.
Jolanta, first and foremost I would like thank you for Awesome service in taking the online order and delivering to my son at Waterloo on the day of his birthday; he was more than happy and satisfied with the cake. I had ordered a Belgian chocolate caramel torte and it looked so yummy .. will try to upload the pic; I like their professionalism, very accomdating and a prompt service as well.
Ordered an eclaires and ended up with a Boston cream and confused looks by the employees. Will not visit again.
My husband placed an order for my birthday cake and they forgot it. THe girl at the store was apologetic, called the manager who said just choose something else. THey gave a paltry $5 discount!! Great inconvenience and not enough of an apology. Also when we cut into the cake, it had a distinct moldy taste on the outside and was frozen on the inside. Never again.
A bit expensive but the stuff tastes good
Very poor customer service.
It's a nice little sweets shop. European chocolates, nougat, pastries, marzipan. It's definitely on the pricey side. But, still nice. Small cozy eating area to enjoy your pastries.
I liked their old place on Queen Street more. It's still a very good shop for European food, and I especially like their cookies and cakes, and this new location on Stirling is probably giving them a bit more of a floor space. The missing part for me now is coziness, so I wouldn't consider it as a café place to go, even though they still have tables inside.
Tasty
My wife loves the baked goods here.
Great place to hang out for a while with a coffee and pastry.
I've been here a few times, and have always been impressed by the complex and delicious flavours your selection provides. Recently I went to pick a birthday treat for a co-worker and she greatly appreciated it, it was a delicious Peach European Cheesecake and your recommendation made all the difference. You have my appreciate and future business!
Good good
I had ordered a 7" black forest cake for pickup. The pickup timing went fine and I was pleasantly surprised by the chocolate sign that was able to be created, so those two things were great! Also, online ordering was very easy and convenient. However, I picked the cake up around 11am from the Waterloo location and was planning to serve it at 12pm. We were thrilled to have a fresh gourmet cake to serve, and after all, our expectations were high after paying over $40. When I went to put the cake out on the table, I was shocked to see that it was frozen! I was not warned that it would still be frozen upon pickup. Secondly, when we did try a few bites, we found that even though the cake looked wonderful, it was not appealing to taste. It wasn't sweet at all and was quite flavourless to everyone at the table. We ended up throwing the entire cake out because it was frozen (not fresh, fluffy, or moist like we expected), and the flavour was severely lacking, so there was no point in wasting the calories on it. I read the blurb on their website about "fresh is frozen", but how am I supposed to serve a frozen cake? Especially when I wasn't told that it would be frozen upon pickup. If I wanted a flavourless frozen cake, I would have purchased something from the grocery store for $15. I get that for the transport that it's a preservation technique so the cake doesn't fall apart, but again, we were paying for the best and freshest cake in Waterloo Region, and we didn't receive it. Or, let me know that if I don't want it to be frozen, I can pick it up directly from the Kitchener location. I had emailed them with my feedback and expected some sort of an acknowledgement (not a refund or anything), and gave them over two weeks to respond, but still haven't heard anything from them. I wouldn't have posted a 2/5 stars review if they had given me a decent reply. It was a very disappointing purchase and I wanted Nougat Bakery to know about my experience. I don't plan on ordering from them again.
Beautiful and tasty cakes with courteous (if cool) service.
Overpriced
Great pastery, great coffee!
We ordered our wedding cake & cupcakes from here and we're absolutely blown away with how amazing they turned out. The taste was perfect, and they looked amazing.
Great deserts and coffee
Coffee was good, nice environment and delicious sweets
Cozy meet up place for coffee or light lunch.
New location has really really changed the atmosphere that was present at their older location on Queen Street. Not as many selections of desserts or products in general. Selection of food is also very lacking. Missing what you guys were!
Decent selection of gourmet grocery items and baked goods. A good place for a treat or some convenience shopping.
Friendly service and delicious baked goods!
Lovely European bakery.
Good cakes n' coffee
Awesome and the cookies were very tasty
Fresh delicious food, unfortunetly they wont cater to any special diet restrictions or food allergies. Limited beverages as they were out of bottled water. Probably wont return.
Best European bakery... Amazing poppy seed rolls!
Great bread
Favorite delicatessen in Kitchener!
They have so much to choose from! The baked goods look very high end and delicious. The cappuccino eclair was the best! However it was obvious it wasn't fresh but it still was good. The latte was really good too and came with a tiny shortbread cookie!
Delicious. Wish it was open earlier so I could get a morning coffee before work.
Best cakes in town. They frequently run out of bread, especially their yeast free sourdough, so go early. New location is smaller than their old location on Queen street.
Stopped in for lunch...the potato and leek soup had no flavour. The sandwich which was a roast beef melt was dry and there was nothing melted about it. Expensive for what you get. $18 for soup, 1/2 sandwich, coffee and 2 cookies...won’t be back
Lots of good stuff to eat, and euro treats too. Limited options if you have a dairy or gluten sensitivity, but worth checking out.
Always the best treats!!!!
Love this place lots of memory's European baking at its best
Open concept dining with some tables outside. Lunch items are prepared the morning of. When last piece is purchased, it is not made again till next day. Cappuccino was delicious. They have a coffee card 10th one is free. Many delicious looking desserts available by the whole or the slice. Not as many items for sale as in their previous Queen St location.
Best Baked goods I've ever had. Quite pricy, but totally worth the money spent
Clen store, friendly service , delicious desserts. A little on the pricy side but worth it for treating yourself.
I’ve been going to Nougat for over 15 years and it’s been great. Prices have increased significantly over the years so we don’t go as often as we would like to. Quality is excellent and staff are great. There is another location in Waterloo which is nice as it’s closer to us now.
Best becklava on the planet
Absolutely amazing baked goods! Online ordering for cakes is very convenient. A bit pricy but very appreciated for the quality
Old location was so nice. The new location is like any other store I guess. The bread was all hard and old and they don't even make sandwiches anymore.
Best cakes in the city.
Nice selection and very delicious
I like this pastry and foods, very nice place, very quite.and also gokd service.
Didn't love the selection or atmosphere.
The desserts are amazing, no doubt about it. However, I'm not quite sure whether the cakes are freshly made from the store. It is slightly overpriced from other dessert place. You can find the same cake from Costco or better yet Sobey's.
Although it's the kind of place that takes you back to old Europe its also very pricey. Love the atmosphere!!!
Its great !
Werry friendly people
Go for the Chai Latte, stay for the Danishes.
Fresh and delicious.
Delicious sandwiches and a solid selection of imported treats.
It was below my expectations from a bakery shop. Pecan pie and tiramisu were not fresh at all. I don’t even want to mention about the sugar ratio of the deserts I’ve tried.
Excellent coffee. Great array of tasty pastries and cakes. Service is prompt, friendly and efficient.
Amazing desserts, even better than La Patisserie!
This place is amazing!! Great place to sit and have a coffee and some cake. Let's talk about these cakes for a second. When I say cake I want you to think about cakes that belong on magazine covers and when it comes to flavor these cakes will haunt your dreams with their sugary ways. I once thought my husband was cheating on me moaning in a dream but it was just him dreaming about the brownie cheese cake. If adulterous cakes where not enough they have a wall of cookies from all over the world and meats, honeys, oils, mustard's. If you want it yummy this is the place to go.
Decent pizza. Quick, friendly service.
very good cake .
Tried the new location, not impressed. The menu is smaller for lunch items and its lost all of its charm. My mother and I split a couple sandwiches, neither were very good. The donut we had after lunch was ok, but not great. To top things off the woman who served us was very rude and we could not have been more polite to her, I have no idea what the issue was but I have no interest in returning. Do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else.
A great Bakery... Los of fresh baker goodies!
I found this gem yesterday and OMG it's amazing!!! I will be going back. All fresh deserts, also a little deli so you can sit to enjoy your goodies right there. Specialty tea or coffee or neat cold drinks. The staff were wonderful!!!!
Great cakes and pastries! Really good and very tasty! Always a treat to get some of their delicious items!!
Large variety of delicious pastries, clean, parking space and a patio when the weather is warmer.
A nice little Konditorei for a great coffee and a bite to eat. Wonderful breads and deli meats and a nice selection of coffees and treats. What more could One want? Sometimes a welcoming is nice to hear. Oddly lacking as a European shop so that’s why four stars. Could be a five!
Special cakes and cookies! It is nice to have a coffee or tea and a good sandwich with a friend. Downside is that their cakes are frozen. It is not fresh made. I had the surprise to come home with it for my birthday on March 10, 2018 and we could not eat it because it was frozen. Nobody mentioned to me that when I bought it ???? if you are ok with frozen food - you are all good!
A large variety but really overpriced. I wanted to try something with a coffee flavour or similar as I am not a fan of chocolate. The other fruity ones were too big and since I just had lunch, I was looking for something small. I ordered what looked like a nice option but it was mostly cream and extremely sweet. I do not recommend it at all.
Awesome treats if u like sweets
Who doesn't love a great bakery?????????????
Stuff I bought was delish. Would have bought other things but, extremely expensive.
Good (overpriced) product but the service is so lacking it's not worth the trip. Always understaffed, orders take a really long time even when the shop is empty and worst of all, staff ignore the customer until they are ready to serve them. Try this: "hi there, sorry for the wait, I'll be with you in just a moment"
Wasn't there for very long can you get to look around
Great place for a quick lunch or afternoon treat. This location has deli meats, iced coffees, fresh baked bread and pastries. I've always been greeted with a smile and wonderful service. I would attend again and I will.
Cakes are so yummy, fresh, light, and not overly sweet. They look nice too. We usually get them for birthdays at work and bought a couple for home. It's easy to place an order online too. I do prefer their vanilla based cakes. Our favorites so far are Passion Fruit Blackberry, Cherry Blossom, and Blueberry Lemon. Staff is always very helpful and friendly.
The best white chocolate cheesecake!
Nice, quiet place to have a coffee. The cheescake is delicious.
The cheesecake was to die for
I love their pastry selection, although other “baked goods” are few. Presentation is great. Really enjoyed the vibe of the Queen St location and hope they can make Stirling St a little cozier in the future. Most of the store by far is full of European grocery and specialty products. Have tried deli at new location. This rating is low because the service is horrible. I’m not sure if it’s the owner, but she clearly hates serving customers. She’s very rude and her attitude makes everything so awkward.
I am not sure why this business is rated under four stars? We have been consuming their treats for years and have always been happy customers!
Good selection but pricey
Sold me old, stone hard small cheesecakes for $6 each...I wanted to give a better review after I return these... I Got money back BUT owner was unapologetic and defensive. Said No one ever complained...and it's kind of my own fault i chose these. What? Well...I had guests for lunch and I was totally embarassed having these as desert. They don't bake anything they get everything from a "supplier" If you buying here check for quality before serving.
I preferred the previous location. The new location is a bit sterile. Sitting area isn't as warm and inviting. There is a lot less here to peruse and purchase.
Love the deserts served here!
I bought 3 pastries (was charged for 4) and all were stale. Asked for and paid for a vanilla latte - was handed a plain latte and the woman told me they were out of vanilla after I had already paid for it... coffee was so hot that I burnt my mouth quite badly. Will no be going back.
The pastry is still as decadent as ever but the character and feel of the business has suffered in the move from Queen street. Just like every other strip mall business, lacking ambiance. On queen street you felt like you had changed continents and stepped back a century.
Walked in and instantly became happy because of the quality baked goods, pastries and delicatessen. A must go to.
Such a lovely store! They have delicious meat, cheese, and some pretty fantastic sweet treats. The prices are more then reasonable, and the service is excellent. Great work!
Nougat has a great deli section and a nice range of baked goods available. I love to see some European candy choices that I loved when living in England! Maoam candies especially. The choices of bread seem to vary when visiting, so it may be beneficial to visit at earlier hours of the day if possible. A pleasant hello always greets me when I enter! Will be returning.
Friendly staff, a little pricey. Cheesecake is tastey, but the apple pastry was too dry
Basically a candy store for adults. Lots of great stuff to discover. Friendly staff.
Small deli counter with delicious sandwiches, great fresh baked bread, frozen cakes and pastries, and a bunch of other small unique grocery items. A nice little place with a slightly more unique selection than you might be use to.
NOTICE! The old Queen St location is now closed! They have relocated here at the corner of Stirling and Courtland in Kitchener. Staff is very friendly in the café side. A bit pricey, but has an older European feel.
Best Black & White cake I have ever had!
Ordered a beautiful birthday cake, taste test tomorrow ????. Also got some small treats, all very tasty and fresh. Great service.
Bad reception, no smile, and slow service, not recommend it at all
Fantastic service and cake. I ordered a unicorn cake for my daughter's birthday. Jolanta was very accommodating and prompt in responding. We ordered a mango cake with raspberry filling which was just divine. We are very happy with their work and professionalism. In this lockdown where some bake shops have been iffy, Nougat really stepped up and delivered and made a six year old very happy.
Such Yummy Cakes!
At least I won't be getting fat... The worst experience I have ever had. This is supposed to be a genuine paczki experience. It was nothing more than a big disappointment. After being pushed around and treated like an animal by the woman behind the counter, we purchased $10 worth of pastries and left. Not surprised, they were terrible. Sure the pastry was fluffy, but between both of the flavors that we purchased, not a single paczki had more than 1 tsb of filling. The lemon had the most filling about 3/4 of a tsb, within a pastry the size of a old man's fist. How sad... I can purchase 4 paczkis from zehrs that tasted better than these for 3.99. They are packed with filling (zehrs are highly recommended). The only good thing about this experience is that i will be saving money by NOT going to this sad "bakery"
Really took a nosedive in selection and ambiance since they moved.
Our favourite cake place! Decadent, delicious and easy to order online and then pick up.
I bought a black forest cakelette. It definitely goes down as one of the worst cakes I have ever tasted. The cake had good aesthetic and presentation was great too but the cherries, jam and the whole mix left a terrible after taste and no one in my family could take more than one bite of the cake. I hope to edit the raring ( to higher ) in the future.
We went in to pick out some baked goods and the service was abismal. There were three people waiting for service and the woman was very rude and kept snapping at people that they had to wait because she was the only one working. The things we bought were okay but I will be taking any future business elsewhere.
Nice , quiet place and friendly staff also food is fresh.
My family has been going to Nougat for over 15 years! I recently checked out the new location with my mom and son. The service was terrible, the young woman working there couldn't have been ruder or less interested in her customers. The dessert was stale from being left out for too long and started to sour in the middle. It is sad for me to say that I won't be going back there again!
Mostly their bakery items are wonderful, but I have bought whole cakes from the showcase a couple times and they were dry each time. The cakes must have been taken out of the freezer several days before and had dried out standing in the cooled showcase. Disappointed because they make awesome cakes otherwise.
FAAAAAAB!! At last I've found a good Bienenstich in Kitchener! :)
Super expensive and bad quality food
they are bakery and they do not have Croissant!!! the old lady there is not a great servant
Baked goods were very fresh and delicious. I recommend the cheese danish. Coffee is pricey for just your average coffee.
Wow! I could become so overstuffed from all of the fantastic backed goods and deli meats they have. Good authentic German treats and meats. Excellent service and quality foods! Run, down walk, there for treats and a nice lunch!
The old location was so much better. It had character. Now it's in a plaza and the whole experience just isn't the same. The last time we were in the bread was old and stale. We've simply stopped going.
The cakes are awesome. Not to be compared with the 5 buck cakes at the grocery stores. They cost some good money but are worth it. I will give them top rating for cake design, bread softness and cream smoothness.
We usually visit Nougat as a family to have warm drinks and dessert. Great variety and yummy European desserts. I highly recommend.
My go-to bakery in K-W! I look forward to special occasions just so I can order a cake. Service is great and their pastries and cakes are even better!!! Pricing is not cheap, but not overpriced either. You definitely get what you pay for.
Super cute European-style bakery and cafe!
Delicious baked goods and pastries! Can't wait to go back for another treat!
High prices keep me from going more often. Delicious though!
Best suited for a non-family crowd. No high chairs or change tables. Few comfy spots, most chairs are patio/bistro type. Family staff.
Awesome fresh baked breads and desserts
The best Baclava in town. Nougat is pricey though. If you want fresh baked desserts than look no further. They make amazing sweets.
Gluten free love it delicious
Portions for catering smaller than it looked and was a little pricey. Tasted really good though.
Great desserts & coffee!
Nice Bakery, good and fresh pastries,
Excellent cakes and pastries. A small seating area for eating in. Always a pleasure to visit!
Nice little bakery. Not so nice prices
Hard to choose which one of the great looking sweets to buy! Had the carrot cake and it was great!
Fantastic service - and the sausage rolls are amazing!!!
Go, and you'll see why.
Love the atmosphere and excellent service. So many things other than pastries. I highly suggest stopping by if you are in the area.
Waiting in line and nobody around for service ...placed goods back and left without purchasing :(
Excellent cakes, great selection.
Neat looking place, but the butter tart and slice of cake I ordered were pretty mediocre.
Nice items but pricey
Nice good place, enjoying the products, you should visit
Not great service. Not great treats. Tried twice disappointed both times.
Average quality, rude and bad service, wrapped in an expensive envelope; I waited so long before writing this and visited again, just in case if it was a singular experience, but nope, repeated a few minutes ago, again.
We stopped in on a Sunday to purchase a birthday cake. Chose a white chocolate cake with raspberry filling. Everybody loved it. Also bought some deli cheese and meat. Everything was excellent quality and taste. We will definitely be back.
Since my last review, customer service here changed and I have begun shopping here again. Thank you!
Rude service! I was looking at the pre wrapped sandwiches in the display case and a lady that works there came over and started yelling at me; asking me what I was doing. I felt so embarrassed. Don't bother going because this place as the worst customer service ever. You'll probably get yelled at or ignored. I Wouldn't be back.
I gave them a 4 because I love their quality and selection ! I would give them a 3 on speed of service within the store. Don't go there if you are in a rush as it takes up too 10mins for someone to greet you. When they are out at festivals and market their service is quick and friendly. So I tend to only buy from them now when I see them in the community. As mentioned prices keep going up a noticeable amount, due to this we don't go as often as we did years ago.
We tried already 3 of their cakes: hazelnut chocolate (didn’t like too buttery), banana chocolate (great) and some white with strawberry (great light). tastes differ for everyone so I still think they have delicious deserts that look amazing.
I have been there few times and found everything a bit overpriced. They have some interesting items, but I found that frozen cheesecake in your average grocery store is not that much different.
Make sure to ask what is fresh or frozen, and how old the pastries are. You will be surprised to find almost nothing is fresh. Support better, friendlier local businesses and give them your business instead
Visited this bakery, the desserts looked great, however cheesecake and blueberry rollada was great. It was not too sweat but was tasty. But chocolate eclair and chocolate cake was not worth the price and was a total disaster. I feel they are soo overpriced for cakes and all.
Great place for Eastern European foods. Especially enjoy the sourdough bread, and Polish foods (pierogi, Inka, sweets). You can spend lots of time just looking at the different items. Very nice service and definitely will be back again.
Very disappointed with the level of customer service. Would not recommend. If you are looking for quality and variety, Euro foods on Highland road is amazing!
Been going there for food and treats for over 12 years now. Still love it as much as I did on day one!
Great stuff for good prices. The new location isn't as charming as the old one unfortunately, but still a good go-to.
The location has none of the charm of the last one. It feels like a big room with little in it to appeal to the eye. Bought a number of our favorite but even the quality has gone down hill. Sunflower rye bread.... dry, apple fritters....very dry and they have messed with the recipe of the glourentine cookies because they are no longer great either. Diappointed.
European deli and konditorei. Delicious pastries and coffee to eat in or take out. Also a sister location in Uptown Waterloo. Friendly staff in both locations.
Great for those hard to find items
Delicius
Great poppy seed strudel and other baked goods.
Nice coffee and pastries. They have their own bakery and make European breads. You can get nice treats from them as well
Disappointing... came here for my sister’s birthday cake back in January because I wanted it to be nice and had heard good things. The customer service was fine but the cake was just bad and way overpriced. It had evidently been frozen (the other employee pulled another one out of the freezer and put it in the display case before we had even finished paying). So the texture was terrible and dry and there was absolutely no flavour. It was a chocolate cake but tastes like cardboard. Not one person out of our chocolate-loving party of seven finished their piece of this cake. And I payed $40 for it! It was pretty but for that kind of money, it should taste good. Will look elsewhere next time.
Sooo good! service was quick and friendly!
Visited this bakery, the desserts looked great, however two were moldy, one of which was their daily special. Two of the desserts tasted good, and the last was stale. The price is on the higher side and for the quality, extremely high. Hygiene, if this is important to you please read, the person at the counter had no gloves, wore their mask under their nose, and had no problems rubbing their face and touching food. We did ask the person to swap dessert after this took place, they didnt appreciate this, but they were helpful.
The real authentic bakery where you can buy delicious cakes at reasonable price.
A great Eastern European bakery in Kitchener! The Paczki Bombs are awesome, and the truffle cake is a good choice for a standard cake, although i will buy more to try in the future. There's a good variety????
Love their pina coloada cake..
Awesome pączki! Huge, with a plum filling that's not too sweet and just a bit sour. A yummy balance of flavours and texture.
I got a carrot cake from here several years ago and it was magnificent! They forgot to put the writing I asked for in icing but did not charge me for it. Recently, I was a little worried that they had moved into a new place in my neighbourhood and I would be eating way too much cake! But my first visit fixed that problem in a big way. The service is horrendous and the new strip mall vibe is not really doing much for me. The woman who served me was legit the most miserable woman I’ve ever experienced. I will never go back, so thank you Nougat! Your terrible service has saved me from eating too much cake!
Great coffee, excellent selection and great food.I love this place.
Lovely bakery/cafe. I wait for chances to get lunch or buy bakery from this bakery. It's a joy every time to walk in there.
Thank you for the delicious Black Forest Cake. Also had the lemon and raspberry donuts/Pączki, they go great with coffee!
I have had some really good made-to-order items and stocked items from this bakery (at their previous location), but stopped by to have a doughnut, or whatever else intrigued me a couple of times now and they were stale and somewhat flavorless. Not that the staff weren't friendly but they did match the taste of the food. Not what I want from a local treat place.
Very good nougats, not a fan of thr canolis. Subpar canolis. Everything else is amazing though. Gotta love Nougat Bakery
Terrible. Skip it. I’ve tried both locations (new one on sterling and the uptown waterloo). The strudel was dry, the apples were clearly not fresh and it had a slightly moldy taste to it (both times). The products are very expensive. Plus the staff is not friendly. There are other shops in town that have far better at desserts and European products (such as the Victoria Street Market or vincenzo's) and have pleasant staff and are more reasonably priced.
Very expensive, but good food.
Thank you for dealing with the coffee spill, great coffee and food
Purchased a nut roll, Vienna strudel, and cherry&cheese loaf from Nougat Bakery at the Christkindl Market yesterday. The lady I dealt with was nice, but the pastries are not good! Either no flavour or bad flavour. Nut roll tastes as though it came out of a mix, phyllo pastry on the strudel was off, and the cherry cheese loaf was dry af and canned filling. Disappointed for sure
Too expensive
Worse customer service and attitude since the change of management. Stay away from this place.
Somewhat unfriendly. I ordered some Gluten free desserts and they were plopped directly on the counter before being stacked carelessly in the box.
Terrible service, I’ve ordered cakes there twice and surprisingly either times the cake were not available to pick up when I arrived there. I don’t know what happens I believe they had sold my order to other person because I can’t imagine another reason why they didn’t made my cake! Will never go back there again!
Incredible fresh products, lovely helpful staff. I must try! Highly recommend checking this place out it will be your new favorite meet up spot!
Totallly awsome ..
So I read a bunch of reviews before coming to pick out a cake today. They were mixed but the one that stood out was that their cakes were frozen. I decided to try it out anyway and I am writing this to confirm that the cakes was in fact partially frozen. Super dissatisfied. $40 frozen cake? Zehrs and sobeys is better and cheaper.
Great bakery options, beautiful cakes. Lots of options
A bit pricey but the desserts were okay.
Lots of variety
I love what they've done with the two new stores, so fresh still with a touch of Europe! We pick up a some of thier great cheeses, some sausages and a desert whenever we are in the area. The Cherry Flan is amazing! I sneak in a Florentine and coffee for the road.
Got an apple strudel today and it was awful. Tasted underbaked, hardly any cinnamon and there were still hard pieces of apple skin inside. I won't be back.
I used to patron the location on Queens Street. I find most recently the baked goods are not as fresh as they could be but they still do have a great selection. The owner seems to be a little odd at times but she's good at faking her niceness and stays away from customers which is probably a good idea sometimes. I have also been to the Waterloo location, I find the selection not to be the same. Hopefully now that things have opened up they can go back to having their regular selection of baked goods.
I recently bought a birthday cake from them, it was not freshly made at all, the cake tastes rough and firm, I expected something fresh from the oven but this is definetly not!
The quality has gone down a lot since they moved from the queen street location. Their coffee size is so small and the cakes are not fresh. Their danishes are pretty good though. Really nice selection of European treats
Amazing deserts always a great experience
Their website says they have gluten free products, you call them and they tell you nope! No Gluten Free... So infuriating!
Nougat always has great service and top quality food. Their cheesecake is the only one I will eat :)
Spicy kabanos and treats!
Tried ordering a cake that I know a friend would enjoy and constantly given the run around. I would ask to order the cake and they said when? I said ASAP please I don't live far so tomorrow or the next day etc. Then she said Friday no wait Saturday actually let me check. Comes back and says cant until 2 weeks from now. I say okay fine. She then says they may not have the ingredients and that I cant place my order and I will have to call back later in the week. I feel it must be one bad employee i dealt with who didn't want to work maybe. I called their other location and had no such issues.
JUST AWSOME..little bit pricy but worth it..whatever u want they will make it perfect for ..i order a customized cake and they made it on time ,makeover taste delicious..thank you guys ...????
Got a last minute cakelette and some other treats for my partner's birthday. The cake was a super flavorful lemon blueberry and the eclairs were incredibly tasty. Very happy with the service and the goodies. Thanks!
It was like a goody bar kinda in a wonderland
Love popping in here for little treats or birthday cakes! Now have a section to eat your meal.
Nice place and staff are very friendly and helpful
Food and offerings are great, though a bit pricey for what I'd expect at a similar place. I have no problem stopping by for the odd meal, but they'll need to adjust pricing to make me a regular.
My husband and I stopped in their in the summern when they were still on Queen St. We purchased 7 different pastries. Out of all of them the long lemon Pasternak actually tasted like lemon the round lemon tart tasted like nothing. My husband loves chocolate and he was not impressed with anything he picked. We have been to this bakery several times and I have sent my Mom and brother there as well there are no more real bakery's around anymore everything is frozen and thawed. The problem which I thought was just me , but every time we went there the staff were just miserable. The last time in the summer the lady behind the cash register was as miserable as the one who boxed our Pastery. God for bid we asked what certain pasteries where! No one smiles, no one makes small talk or takes the time to be the least bit friendly. Very sad with everything gone in this modern day and age like business that actually bake that you have to be treated this way and pay their prices on top of it. Maybe that 's why there are no more small business or at least very few everyone has forgotten with out customers you would be closed down. Business make it and then forget about customer service. I won't be going back and I won't recommend this establishment to anyone else either.
Good selection of European pastries, although could be less pricey
I had lunch at the cafe. The food was very good. Large portions.
Unbelievable baked good to be had here! Nice place for a coffee and dessert also
The lady at the counter always helps with suggestions. A lot of friends & family members like their tarts & other cakes so we get it from either here or Sabletine.
I have been going to Nougat for years and love the products that are available there. There new location is beautifully done and is usually quite busy. The quality never was reduced and the staff always courteous.
Nougat catered the reception for my mother's funeral. Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared. We had pinwheel sandwiches, regular sandwiches, cheese and pickle trays, veggie trays, charcuterie trays and it was ALL SCRUMPTIOUS. Many of the guests commented on not only how divine the food was but also on the beautiful presentation. Jay was wonderful to work with, meeting with us to plan the initial menu. And even though she was overseas on business, Jolanta provided timely suggestions on the menu via email. Since the funeral was on a Sunday - a day Nougat is normally closed - we were worried how / when we would get the food to the church. Jay assured us that it was not a problem for them to deliver on Sunday morning, which was a great relief to us. I cannot say enough wonderful & positive things about Nougat. I only wish that I'd taken copies of their business card with me to hand out to the many guests that asked about them. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Nice treats ! Fair price for a nicely baked goods.
Good food if not a bit pricey, but the creampuffs are just whipped cream no flavor.
Great assortment of polish and European goods. Some great Canadian made goods as well. Amazing homemade icecream!
I used to love this place but the prices have continued to rise and the quality has continued to fall.I paid $5.00 for a tart last week that was stale and over paid for what I now believe to have been left over Christmas Cookies that were stale. I find the owner to be a little snobby as well, she is very confrontational and doesn’t seem to like dealing with the public. They used to have more of a selection, and care and value customers much more and I have seen this decline since prior to COVID. I have read some of the other comments and want to suggest that these cakes and desserts are not always made fresh, many come frozen from places like DUFFLET and other sources that also supply to places like Coffee Culture where the prices are more reasonable. There is no way these people are making tarts that look that perfect, from scratch. It’s a shame. They had a good thing going until these new owners took over a hike back and then started to expand. One of the reasons we liked going to the original cafe as that it was freshly made and had a European feel. The customer service has plummeted for sure and we will not be back. I can buy the same desserts at Coffee Culture for less and they are always fresh,
Wonderful polish sweets, they also offer espresso and coffee, cured meats, cheeses, fresh breads, pastries and cakes (whole or by the slice). Price is typical of a decent bakery but well worth it. Go earlier in the day for delicious fresh paczki.
Expensive but delicious.
Good
Always delicious.
New management (2013-14) has completely changed the once-special spot to which earlier reviews are referring. In the owner's own words "This is not a cafe". It has turned into more of a European speciality items store and lost all of its warmth and character. Whenever I had out-of-town visitors, I used to bring them here for lunch because it was a guaranteed positive experience - good coffee, many menu options, and polite staff. It was one of the only nice European lunch delicatessens in Kitchener, and the market crowd would flock there in the early afternoon. Now, despite clear demand for lunch (there is always a line and a full parking lot), they have consistently run out of menu options by 1 pm and offer no apologies or explanation. Cue groans. They now have two or three options for lunch only to begin with. Staff are stressed (they seem extremely few/overworked) and therefore have little time to attend to customer needs in a polite way. The new owner's explanation for this change was that they are "not a cafe" and are focused on selling their products. Please avoid this place - perhaps it will fall under new management that can restore some of its old charm.
Tried about half a dozen different things from the bakery. Nothing particularly stood out and they all seem overpriced to me.
So disappointed. Stale baked goods sold for full price. It's a bakery and should only sell fresh products or put the old stuff somewhere else and clearly state it's day old. 2 stars because they carry a mustard I like.
Ordering a cake from out of town for a special occasion, I was thoroughly disappointed with what I thought was going to be an authentic Marzipan Ganache Torte. It was tasteless, previously frozen not fresh. Essentially it was thrown out as not one of the guests ate more than a few bites. This company has no competition, the only worthwhile merchandise are the imported ones. Growing up in Kitchener of Austrian decent, remembering Delicatessans and professionally trained Butchers and Bakers, this was certainly a disappointment.
Cute atmosphere that reminds me of Europe. German products and baked goods are delicious. A little pricey.
Great baked goods and friendly people
I bought cake which is really delicious. She served me after closing hours and very polite and helpfull neture.
Love it!!! Excellent pastry!!!
Very dissatisfied with the service I had there last week I went in on wed and purchased meatloaf lunch meat my mom used to buy all the time when i got home it smelled sour i was afraid to eat it i went back friday to pick up the loaf of bread i ordered and asked if under new management maybe they changed suppliers for their meat, I explained my concerns I didn't want to get sick from eating possible bad meat the lady was quite abrupt said no same suppliers and turned around and walked to back in middle of the conversation so rude she didn't seem concerned or even offered anything or apologized. I will never go back again
Best cheese danishes and baked plum paczki ever!!! Hands down the go to dessert and cake place in Kitchener. Love the various European treats too. A real gem.
Great cakes
Omg if like fresh baked good, or huge sandwiches check this place out!
I love the cakes
Cute little place with irresistible goodies.
It’s my favorite store for cake . But today the cake I bought was old .the dough was very dry :(
Not very friendly, not the best coffee for the price.
They have a nice variety of pastries snacks meat and deli. I always find something delicious to eat here.
The Nougat just brought in their Christmas supply of Neideregger marzepan, seven different flavours. Germans say this is the best brand and only Nougat carries it. The grape is excellent.
Terrible customer service from one of the European ladies there (short grey/dark hair, not the red haired lady). They are famous for not having anyone at cash and leaving you standing there waiting. Why would I pay money for rude service here when I can get better service and selection at Glogowski?
Unbelievable treats are here. Great coffee, great baked goods, and an awesome selection at the deli counter. Reccomend 100%
Good selection of European products and European goods.
They sold me a still-frozen cake after telling me it was made fresh! Went in here last night for a cake for my daughter's birthday, and I got a chocolate truffle cake. As the woman at the counter was boxing it up, she said to me "You're going to love this; it was made fresh today!" An hour and a half later, we cut into the cake, and the interior was icy! Pic below shows the ice crystals. Eating frozen cake is unpleasant enough. But what really confuses me and turns me off is that the woman at the counter gratuitously lied to me about the cake being fresh from that day. I mean, she could have just said nothing, and I would have cut it open and been disappointed, but not felt lied to. I will avoid this place in the future.
Family Christmas tradition. Wonderful dessert and deli.
Nice food
Was there this morning...first time in a few years, and the customer service is horrible! First of all, I couldn't even find any one. When I finally did, and I asked her a question, she was abrupt and rude, then turned and walked away. I left without buying anything, due to her being so ignorant, and I will not be back.
Ordered a 19" chocolate mousse raspberry birthday cake for my daughter's birthday. It cost $97 and was supposed to feed 20, but could have fed 30-40 actually!. The …
Bought pastries and a small cake , they looks really nice, however they had a weird taste, stale, old. I was unable to serve desert which was kind of disappointing. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this bakery anymore.
Love this place
The gentleman who delivered the cake was very kind and polite and followed instructions to the tee. However, the Chocomisu cake was one of the worst cakes I have ever tasted. The presentation was lovely, but it was so incredibly dry and the rum or espresso (not sure which they used, perhaps both) was just awful. It left a really terrible aftertaste. Overall, the cake was practically inedible and it's a shame it couldn't be enjoyed. Tiramisu isn't a difficult cake to make but as a treat we thought we would order one instead of make one ourselves. You would think an establishment calling themselves a bakery would be able to successfully make one and be sure it isn't dry. Very disappointing.
I was shocked to find out that the cakes are not fresh for 40 dollars I would expect my cake not to be completely frozen for my daughters first birthday...gross
Great stuff, I love their cakes and patisseries; the staff however are Not friendly and helpful.
This bakery is fantastic. Delicious desserts and wonderful staff.
Have been twice to the new location since it moved from Queen St. They really do have an excellent selection of European foods and treats. However, their buns weren't fresh and kind of mealy, and the cold cuts (specifically the salami) was dry and not very enjoyable. Just isn't the same as it used to be.
Very nice experience everything was awesome
Great selection, lots of desert. Somethings are hard to find
Rude staff.. worst service .... they talk to you as if they are making fun of you..
Generally expensive for what you get (now $3 for a really, really basic square Danish...?) Biggest beef: often just too slow. On our last visit one lady covering everything (meat counter, cakes, cash register and coffee shop side). Even when there's two it's slow. She was being run off her feet. We felt terrible for her and we're annoyed at how the owners would allow this. New location coffee shop has all the charm of an airport hanger. All in all, and for the prices they charge, we're not likely to return.
I was just in the area and stopped in to see what they had...bought a couple of things. It was very busy...and the selection of desserts were amazing. They also have a deli area...If I had more time I would have talked to the employees if they had gluten free selections...
We simply love the cake - Mango Raspberry cake. You need to order 48 hours in advance though.
It has gotten very expensive with the new owners and the new location has no warmth to it and too much industrial feel...not what a cafe should have
Beware the quality might be changing! I have ordered cakes from Nougats many times and have always been impressed with the quality and freshness. In late April we ordered a cake to celebrate a colleagues graduation. When we received the cake and cut into it we realized that it was nothing more than a frozen cake it was not made fresh. I’m not sure if this is because of COVID-19 or if they’ve gone to policy of making the cakes up in advance and freezing them. Anyway we were very disappointed. When you pay $40 for a cake you expect the best… Not something you could’ve purchased at ZEHRS
Quality cakes, great flavor.
I tried this place for the first time over the weekend. I think calling it a bakery is a stretch. They only had a few different kinds of bread that come presliced. The sourdough is cut so thin that if you toast it, it just becomes a cracker. Lots of desserts, so I tried to adjust my perspective and get a container of assorted cookies. I tried two of them and threw the rest away. They tasted stale and left a weird film on the roof of my mouth. I didn't try delivery meats, but they looked great. Also a great selection of European prepackaged, very processed foods. These both sound great, but not why I go to a bakery. Their presentation is so good though. The store is beautiful.
worst wraps, all watery unable to serve them, spent over $200.00 would never order from them again
Some of their pastries are great, some not so much. Deli counter generally a success though. Pretty inconvenient opening times for anyone with a 9-5 work week. Still, come back here fairly regularly for the items we like.
Amazing bakery, worth the visit
Excellent cakes!
Best place to sample German cakes at a reasonable price
Amazing EVERY TIME. If you are lucky enough to get the pretzels, they are incredible. Also the most delicious cakes
Great little bakery! Friendly staff!
Love everything they bake here. Its ALL good :)
Can I just say Nougat is ahhhhmazing!!! From the service to the incredible assortment of decadent goodies!! This place seems to have everything a girl or boy could possibly want to gorge on!! I don't live in the area but heard great things about the place so took a hop, skip, and a jump over and was definitely not disappointed! Their pastries and breads make me feel like I am lounging in some Eastern European cafe watching people go by as I sip on coffee and stuff my face with delights!! They are warm and welcoming there and Jolanta made me feel like part of the family as soon as I came in! I highly recommend you take a trip to Nougat and treat yourself!! Nom nom nom
Terrible coffee. It's not the same anymore.
I love Nougat and their products
Delicious fresh and healthy ! Great service and ambiance. What a beautiful cafe and everything is freshly made with love ❤️
Overpriced and desserts are very hit or miss
Best euro deli in kw
One of the best bakeries in the city for authentic European treats made with care and passion. The location in uptown is sometimes limited in terms of selection but they are very accommodating and happy to bring things over from the Kitchener location.
Love the light rye/sourdough bread, dark chocolate tarts (and a slice of dark chocolate banana cake).
The lady at the counter was stone faced, quite rude. Couldn't crack a smile for the life of her despite me being super polite. The pastries were not as good as the first time I got them. Plenty of other bakeries in town that appreciate their customers so will not be going back.
Soup and a sandwich without beverage was almost $20.00 they played the same song the entire time I was there it was just brutal . Would not recommend.
Delicious European Cakes and Pastries made at this Bakery. The pricing is expensive for these specially prepared food items, so be prepared to pay more. They also have other European grocery items and coffee for purchase.
