This bakery has been on my to-visit list for quite some time now, but it's *always* closed; it's so hard for me to find a time to come here when it's open and not cleaned out of baked goods. Maybe one day I will try the kouign amann!! In the meantime, tasty classic treats. - Mimi's Cake Tour

I am so happy that Aura opened up her bakery years ago. We've been going to her bakery for baked goods and her bean to bar chocolate. The Kouignamann is simply one of the best things in this world. It's basically the richer and more buttery cousin of the croissant. Try it and I dare you not to be hooked on it. Thank you, Aura and team!

My first experience with this lovely little bakery. It's small and quaint and offers really delicious desserts made on site. They have local offering as well. I had the cream puff with hazelnut cream and it was light, fluffy and had real hazelnuts. Highly recommend!

We moved to the region a few months ago, and having Ambrosia within a two minute walk is both a blessing and a curse. I try to be good about what I eat, but my partner and I too frequently purchase and devour their Kouignamanns - pastries that are a ridiculous amount of buttery, sugary goodness. They have the plain versions, which my partner loves, but I am partial to the one with chocolate and I think pecans. We've also tried and loved their chocolate ice cream. I usually prefer gelato, but have to admit they do a great job with their icecream. So far, we have had their Peruvian chocolate version, but just bought a Fiji chocolate version that I can't wait to eat. Their scones are also pretty good. I prefer their savoury ones - they had a bacon and cheese one a few weeks ago that I hope to get my hands on again soon. We did try a sourdough loaf a few weeks ago that was very yummy, but I think it might have been around 7/8 bucks, so not sure I would purchase very often. The store has other delightful fresh, frozen and packaged goodies that I have yet to try. Prices aren't exactly cheap (the Kouignamanns are about 5 each), but we have convinced ourselves it's worth it for a super satisfying treat now and then. Also, everyone that works there is super friendly.

Jeffrey Davis

Go see Aura and her team. Great goodies and a super comfortable setting.

Much bigger than the original store, with many more local items for purchase. Still the same great quality baked items for sale too!

So after hearing so many great things about this place I decided to pop in and try for myself. I ordered a babka and a drinking chocolate. The girl on cash was friendly and helpful and was quick to correct an error in what I was charged. The bakery is quick to become busy (it is located in a highly dense neighborhood) but not prohibitively so. The owner is approachable and knows her stuff. The babka was amazing. Buttery and the right amount of chocolate. However the drinking chocolate was an absolute disappointment. While the flavor of the chocolate was ok (I chose the Madagascar drinking chocolate) the consistency was like cheap watery hot chocolate from an automated machine. For a chocolate business this was a serious letdown. I will be back another time to try some of their other wares .

So pleased to have this local gem! Too many favourite treats to list them all, but the liege waffles and Kouign-amann are on top.

Love the fresh and frozen selections at Ambrosia - lots of great local finds to spice up your cooking but also sweet and savoury items like their famous belgian waffles, savoury buns & scones, and squares. Grab one of their chocolate bars by the desserts if they're still in stock.

Wonderful bakery and store for locally made items. The pecan butter tart square was delicious - incredibly flavourful and perfectly sweetened. Had a great ice coffee too. Definitely recommended!!

Ambrosia is more than just an amazing bakery that makes the most delicious treats. It has truly become a place of community through the pandemic. Aura has gone above and beyond to stock products from other local, small businesses, to set up an order form to preorder both staples and must have treats every week and to keep everyone in the know about the changes to hours and availability through this whole roller coaster ride. They are always welcoming and glad to see you! Ambrosia is a community and I couldn’t imagine Kitchener without them.

This is a wonderful bakery tucked in the neighbourhood. The scones and other baked goods are delicious. ???? Also, the owner supports other small local businesses! Remaining open during a pandemic is no small feat and the staffs' smiles as one enters the store are appreciated. The owner is frequently on social media and clearly explains in advanced any changes to the regular store hours and what is going on inside her business.

Great pastries, chocolates, ice cream made in house. Delicious! Growing selection from other local providers. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Worth a visit.

There has been some great changes to this location since the previous business was in here. Last time we were in I enjoyed the quiche, a cookie, and a coffee. Their drip coffee was excellent. I also really appreciate how this space is starting to feel like a hub for the community as its little spaces like this which enrich communities. Keep up the good work guys!

Pastries were wonderful. Warm and cozy despite the frigid winter temp.

Jennifer Shousterman

I happened to drive by and popped in, having heard good things, and they were all true. The babka was amazing, and everything looked delicious. We were there on a Saturday around 2pm and there was not a lot left for selection but still enough for everyone in the group to choose something they wanted. Prices seemed really fair for the the quality of ingredients and skill in the kitchen. It is totally out of our way, but we will be back!

This is one of the best local business owners around! Very involved with the local community. Their baking and ice cream is extraordinary!! It's a 10/10!! Their effort to support other local business owners and promote their products too, make this place a one-stop shop!!

So disappointed ☹️ Came for the kouign amann pastry featured on CBC, they were sold out (which is fine....we know to pre-order next time) So we decided to try something else instead, it was around noon on a Friday. Had a "fresh" sticky bun and a custard dessert. Both were really stale and we didn't finish either. (See picture). Looked around at the rest of the food but most stuff was bagged day-olds or just didn't look all that appealing. Given the reviews maybe it was an off-day. If I happen to be back in the area will give them a cautious second chance. The counter person was lovely so gave it an extra star.

Marc McNamara

Great treats, pleasant, helpful service. Decent prices. Curbside pick-up.

Nothing here is bad. Everything that comes out of this place is always amazing. I’ve said it many many times but I’ll say it here as well, the best ice cream in town. Nay, I’d say in south western Ontario and likely beyond.

Moody Foodie

I was really pulling for this place after regularly buying from their old location that was only open on Saturdays. They were great "brag treats", meaning you could show them off to people who had never been there before and the products a) looked beautiful, b) tasted great, c) were unusual and d) the whole process felt exclusive and secretive. I didn't mind spending $30 on five-ish pieces when you could really see the time, effort, and talent that had gone into them. I think opening a larger location has been more of an adjustment than they had bargained for. I've been twice since they've reopened here and it has really left a lot to be desired. I've attended in the morning and afternoon to see how freshness differs and it doesn't...in a bad way. The pieces purchased were overcooked, the dough was dry and overworked or just greasy, hard, and lardy and the prices haven't been adjusted accordingly. Nowhere near the precision and artistry the head baker/owner used to have. The barista does a really good job and is fun and bubbly but the owner tends to give you the cold shoulder if you don't have a culinary degree. I really hope this is just a hill they have to climb to get back to where they were.

REPLY TO OWNER'S RESPONSE: Your bakery is the only negative review that I have ever given (or non-5 star review for that matter) and I stand by it. Your response fails to address the root cause of my review and lacks an authentic apology. Before responding to your review itself, I think it illustrates that your business (or someone on its behalf) does not appear to present astute customer service skills or willingness to respond to customer feedback. Additionally, if you don’t want people going to social media to post feedback/comments then consider adding a feedback option to your website. Your “contact us” and “order here” pages do not have an email or phone number. Your pre-order window was not available on your website when this review was posted. I noticed on Sunday that your website now provides an order window. For interested customers, it opens Sunday and closes at 6am Wednesday. On the apology, I do not perceive your apology as sincere because of your first sentence’s tone and sentiment. I read this as you’re sorry because my conduct resulted in me being unable to get one of your pastries. That does not sound like an apology or acknowledgement of your business’ conduct in this circumstance. You don’t have to apologize to me but don’t call it an apology. I think that you likely misunderstood my review’s comments. First, I would be shocked if you told a customer—in person—to plan an earlier trip to purchase a pastry because you could not possibly know someone’s schedule or personal circumstance. I fail to see why a google review is the appropriate venue. I think it is very idealistic to assume that the average person has the time to either pre-order a pastry (arguably during a very narrow window but that’s purely my opinion) or to meet your narrowly defined trip time in this instance (between 9-1:30pm if not earlier apparently). Second, if you are baking 75 pastries for each day, then clearly, I do not think that is sufficient amount. Also 1:30pm is not reasonably late in the day for average business hours (i.e. 9-5) or even likely when compared within the local market (see other amazing bakeries such as Bauer Bakery and Cafe, Nova Era Bakery, to name a few). I went inside your bakery to purchase a pastry. I should not be expected to pre-order your pastry. This is not stated on your website. This is not stated in most of your articles where your bakery features this pastry. Your flagship pastry appears likely unavailable for the average new customer to try your kouign-amann. I take issue with your small business statement. First, I truly believe small business are the backbone of our local and national economies. They are an essential pillar of our communities. I also take pride in choosing local options when possible. I also believe small businesses are often subject to uncommonly negative interactions for inconsistencies (bad batches, wrong orders etc.) that are likely just as common in larger businesses. Therefore, I believe in giving small businesses the benefit of the doubt in one-off interactions. I have encountered this pastry’s lack of available on multiple occasions pre- and during COVID-19. In terms of options to get one of these pastries, I think that means you either allow people to pre-order or someone walks-in. I don’t think the second option is very effective. ORIGINAL REVIEW It’s 1:30pm on a Friday. I have come to this place 6 times, called more times then that, to find out the Kouign-amanns are sold out. They produce Kouign-amann’s in limited batches for certain days of the week which is fine. I have called for their availability from late morning to mid-afternoon. This has been over the course of about 2-3 years. I am shocked that despite these high reviews and apparent demand that they lack the metrics to progressively increase their production. I can’t wait for another place to sell them.

Stopped in for lunch on Take Over Tuesday and had a great time. Lovely community bakery, home cooked delicious food, friendly staff and service. We will be back.

Heard quite a bit about this place and we were eager to try the kouigh amann. It was buttery and flakey but not as crunchy as I was expecting. I think the one I like the best is still the one that Tasso (in Toronto) makes. The whoopie pie was ok (cake a bit dry for my tastes), chocolate kouigh amann was better than the regular one. I look forward to trying it again at some point to see some of their other items.

Ambrosia Corner Bakery is a true hidden gem. Sure, it's not open daily - but let's be honest, my waistline appreciates the break! I know everyone raves about their kouignamanns but the real unsung hero for me is their croissants. After having lived in Europe, these taste the closest to home. This small business has a lot of heart and you can taste it with every bite. I'm so lucky to live in this neighbourhood!

Great new location, same (or similar) yummy baking. They’ve added in some local soups and savoury pastries if you want to stay for more of a light meal, plus they carry local take-away food and other goods. A very comfortable and homey spot!

Krysti Beckett

Beautiful little coffee shop/bakery. A little pricey but high quality. Keto available!

Denise Coleman

Everytime we have placed an order with this bakery, we’ve been delighted with the quality. Our son requested a specific item for his birthday’ cake’ last year (In the height of pandemic mayhem). Aura did not have it on the menu but made one up special just for him. Including making the top special with his ‘16’. He loved his dessert and we were all impressed by the taste AND personal touch. We had ice cream alongside and the only downside was there was none leftover to go in the freezer. Our family polished it off!

W K

Lovely local bakery, great variety with a balance of delicious staples and new options (I check every week to see what muffins are in). The online order form is clear and well-organized, and picking up orders during the lockdown has been easy.

Everything here is delicious. And while the Kouingaman (which I am not spelling correctly) is worthy of the hype, my hands down favourite thing here are the sticky buns. They are so amazingly good. I also love the scones, especially the savory ones. The ready to bake scones are a great treat to keep at home in the freezer for when a craving strikes. Also, their coffee is amazing, if you leave without a cup you’re missing out.

Carly Preiss

I’ve moved to Mississauga and still make sure that every single time I’m back in Kitchener, I place an order to pick up. This is truly a gem.

Brian Pengelly

Everyone knows finding little corner bakeries is totally my thing, so when a detour forced me off the beaten path and I spotted this place I had to make a further detour to check it out and I'm glad I did. If we weren't in lockdown I imagine this would be a great place to kick back, enjoy a latte and sample the baked goods, but with COVID back in full force I had to settle for just the baked goods. The thing to get here is definitely the Kouign-Amann! Its like a cross between a croissant and a sticky bun. It is flaky, sweet, a bit salty and has a dark crunchy caramel on the bottom that adds just the right amount of bitterness. It is worth the trip for that alone! I also got a donuts which turned out to be from Red Eye Cafe in Cambridge. It was wonderfully light and delicious. The reason I give it a 4 not a 5 is that a number of the things they had here were actually from other places. This is by no means a bad thing, working with other local bakeries to bring variety to your customers is excellent! But when I asked staff questions about the external products they couldn't answer my questions. No one knew what flavour the different donuts offered were, and no one knew which of the 4 sourdough breads from Grain Harvest bakery had the most sour taste. If you are going to feature products please know what you are offering! That said I would go back any day and am still dreaming about the Kouign-Amann. It is worth a trip out of my way just for that. I am looking forward to go back and try out more of what they have to offer. One word of warning, much like the nearby Norris Bakery this place can have limited selection by the end of the day, so if you want the best selection, plan ahead and show up early!

I recently moved into the neighbourhood and am so delighted to be within walking distance of Ambrosias Corner Bakery. As some other reviewers have said, it is best to get there earlier in the day if you are hoping for a full selection of all the freshly baked in house items. Personal favourites are the lemon bars and the whiskey peacan bar but you can't go wrong with whatever your tastebuds tell you while standing at the counter! The local business items that I have tried so far have also all been excellent; the sparkling cranberry apple drink that they carry is phenomenal. Even as I type this, I am snacking on the addictive cookies they carry from The Shortbread Company (so worth the splurge). Typically I go into the store to decide what I am bringing home that day, although I must say, the preorder option is extremely handy. That is especially true if there is something specific that you have been craving ot wanting to try! Between Ambrosias and the local market, I have no need to step foot in corporate food retailers anymore! Thank you Aura & staff! #shoplocal #supportsmallbusiness

I just want to say that the customer service was fantastic. It is very hard for me to find time to pick things up, and Aura worked with me to get my order when convenient to me, and not necessarily for her. Above and beyond. The cookies were amazing. Never got a chance to go to the old location, was excited they had a shop that was open all the time. I went in, attempted to make conversation with the owner and she was short and unapproachable. The Barista was Lovely and kind. Maybe a bad day?

This is an amazing place! They sell a variety of things from local suppliers, in addition to their baked goods. I tried the lemon square and raspberry tart, which were both fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The products are expensive, but the bakery pays a living wage, and also supports community initiatives, including Healing of the Seven Generations. And it's businesses like this that help to strengthen the fabric of our community. Plus, their lemon squares are amazing! If I still lived down the street from here, I'd probably walk down here for a visit every week.

Erin Guindon

I love coming to ambrosia every Saturday morning and picking up some of the delicious baked goods to share with my family! It’s becoming a bit of a tradition actually. I SO wanted to love this place since I love the story behind it and the pastry skills are so good! However, when I went in a couple months ago for the first time, I was super disappointed. The girl who served us was extremely rude, lazy and overall unhelpful. Wasn’t greeted by anyone when I arrived, and ordering something seemed to be an inconvenience to her. I ordered a pastry and latte...the pastry was quite good, but the latte was served in a paper cup even though I was sitting in. I politely asked if a ceramic cup was available and she said bluntly, “no they have to be washed”. Would it have been so hard to go back and wash one quickly? She then proceeded to just go on her phone and ignore me. As someone who works in customer service and the food industry, I know some days can be hard, but I also know that the shop was empty except for one other customer, and putting in that extra effort wouldn’t have been difficult. May try and give them another chance, but really didn’t live up to the hype on Instagram.

Debra Charnuski (CalgaryDeb)

Heavenly. No other word describes the pastries and sweet temptations that are produced here. The Kouign Amman is nothing short of divine. Great owner, great selection of gourmet goodies and a friendly atmosphere. A true gem. Highly Recommend!
