Nothing says the North End of Winnipeg like fresh bread from Gunns!

Large selection of Eastern European baked goods, both sweet and savoury. -- "Mimi's Cake Tour"

Been coming for years, but since the new ownership it seems like the sizes of product are not what they used to be. Bagels and loaves seem to be shrinking in size.

Rodney Hunt

Friendly staff, nice birthday cakes

A Winnipeg institution to be sure, if this place was in Wolseley and marketed its products as artisanal, they could get away with charging 3 to 4 times the amount for their products. There's a reason you'll always find a line up in the mornings here. Without question the bagels are the best in town. What I feel is under appreciated is the pumpernickel and marble rye.

Very very good quality products. I am really very happy to find out this bakery. I reached the shop at 07:15 in the morning and there were people already waiting for shop to open. Very cooperative staff. Honest people. I have tried cookies, bread and a couple of more products. Quality and prices impressed me. I drove from Waverley to Gunn’s and they have met my expectations. I would say they performed beyond my expectations. Everybody give a try

Local business, products made on site daily breads, pastries and cakes. Kosher shop for those who value this option, never had anything from here I didn't love.

Best oatmeal raisin cookies ever... used to be. Since the new owner things aren't up to what used to be. I had my first sugar free apple jack since the change of ownership... it was all crust and no filling. They used to be full of apple filling. Now there's barely any. Oatmeal raisin cookies are still good but not the best ever anymore. I get it new owner has a mortgage so there's go to be some cut backs. It's unfortunate.

I was introduced to their delicious bagels by a family member and have since been back to try the onion buns, which are equally great. I'm loving this place and will definitely be back to try other items!

Placed a large order of cookies through email for a Breakfast with Santa fundaiser for children to decorate. We just needed plain sugar cookies, but a big enough size for decorating. It started off as a good experience and I was told we would get a discount which was greatly appreciated! Throughout the process I had phoned the bakery once to confirm, it seemed I was given a different price and the staff weren't all on the same page but we figured it out (or so it seemed) and made arrangements for pick up. Well we just picked up the cookies and were very shoked to see that they are way too small to be decorated and for the price it doesn't seem like we got any sort of discount at all. When I called to explain about the obvious mix up, I was told that it was my fault and I shouldn't have phoned the bakery to confirm or speak to anyone else other than the initital person I dealt with through email as the staff don't know whats going on and weren't aware of my order etc etc. I assume when you place a wholesale order and phone the "wholesale department" that whoever is working would look at my order and know what is happening! A mistake or not, blaming the customer is ridiculous and I'm appalled at how I was treated. The owner was rude. He didn't offer anything to rectify the situation either. (Was thinking maybe some money back or something small. At least something to make up for the mix up and confusion with his staff) But nope nothing but pointing the blame at me! This is a Christmas fundraiser for kids and I am simply a volunteer trying to make it a great event. Just so disapointed and wondering where has the Christmas spirit gone? I was hoping to use this company every year but never again! Terrible customer service!

Not as good as it use to be. Spinach knish was not edible, Bitter and dry. The bagels had no flavor and terrible texture. The Hamentash was ok the chocolate babka was sub-par and dry. Ok the poppy seed was tasty.

I went to Gunns bakery for a birthday cake for my dad yesterday. I found the staff very helpful as It was my first time there, the young woman at the front gave me many options for custom made birthday cakes, and ended up ordering a cake with a picture of my dad printed in icing on the top. the cake looked AMAZING <3 It was ready in 2 days as promised and absolutely nobody was disappointed in taste, appearance, or customer service. Ill definitely be back again soon.

I buy all of Gunn's breads, buns, bakery items that come up into Albert Beach (Saffie's), a few beaches way from me. I live here full time and for a long time. I love Gunn's (I am thrilled your products showed up at Saffie's), everything, we have very limited choices up here, haven't seen the bagels up here yet. Thanks so much for serving my East Side Lake Winnipeg home. We love your Light Rye. We love your pastries. I hope you still come in the winter. Love Gunn's BUT not being open until at least 7 kills 95% of the times I want to go and grab stuff. 5:30 is so early. Most people are still fighting traffic from work at that time.

I’ve been going to this place since I was kid in the 80’s! I used to sneak out of Holy Ghost School just to grab the pizza bagels. Whenever I drive up or fly in from the USA this is one of the stops. Every bite brings back childhood memories of this place!

I love their bread and pastries! My faves are the fergassa bread, onion bun, and the cheddar and broccoli croissant. Their cinnamon buns are huge and delightful. There are so many other items I still need to try!

Try the dry bagels. You will lose your mind. Perfect with or without a hot beverage to dip it in. I never knew such perfection existed. Thank you Gunn's

Ruth Clare

I used to love this bakery and bought the products regularly but since the bakery was sold I feel taste a difference in the products. The bread used to be so wonderfully delicious and moist, rich in taste but something has changed. It's still okay but not the same. The poppy seed roll is smaller and the bread complements are not as moist, rich in flavour. The knishes are still good as before. I was there yesterday and the store used to have a table in the centre where products were on display. That is no longer there. It was convenient as many times, I didn't come in for a coffee cake bit it was there on this table so delicious, not gone as well other baked goods. Still a great bakery.

Brad Singer

A Winnipeg institution, mainly from their bagels, as plain and simple or as good as they are.

This business treats it's employees very poorly. The short term people change often which is somewhat normal however now even long term (30+ year) employees have had enough. When you treat people with such little respect they will eventually move on. I recently learned that the heart & soul of the actual baking operation has left. I've considered him a dear friend for many years and have always been disappointed by the way he was treated so I suppose it was not a shock to learn of the continued indifference in his departure. Shame on ownership for not recognizing and respecting the ones who helped build this business. I cannot and will not support this business anymore.

In my role at The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, and my personal love of everything baked at Gunn's, they make & provide quality deliciousness here. Catering orders, special event cakes, bagels, buns, soups, and oooh, the breads! Been there, done that and continue to often. I dare you to pick only 1 item...each and every time! Thank you Gunn's for your outstanding commitment to feeding our city and for your long-standing support of The Chamber. Our happy bellies & smiles thank you.

Jim Sokoloski

Highly recommend, fast friendly service, free parking, busy at times, lots to choose from, pastries, cakes, donuts, bread, bagels and more....only problem i had was asked for a cinnamon bun, got a raisin, apple cinnamon bun (yuk). Also items in paper bags need to be transferred into plastic bags when you get home, items will dry out in the paper ones...
