Doughnuts are great, but overpriced. The sandwiches and burgers are good, but for some reason the chicken is always burned when I order the chicken Caesar sandwich. The last time I ordered it the chicken was completely charred.

Amazing doughnuts, probably the best I've ever had. With that being said they are super greasy, leave one on a napkin overnight and see for yourself. Also they do not accept credit which makes it hard to buy for the office on the company credit card. It's not like a cheap box of doughnuts from Tim's, credit cards should be accepted. Despite having a menu that shows what doughnuts are available on what days they do not follow it. Overall great doughnuts with a few things that could be better.

Love the donuts however, even though the place is open until 10pm they stop making new donuts. There have been multiple times where I have attempted to go at 6:30-7:30pm and there literally only being one or two donuts selection. Also, on their website it says which donuts they make each day which is never accurate. I would love for them to be more consistant and actually having donuts out in the case until the time they close.

i have the vandal doughnut tattooed on my hand cuz i had a lot of fun here. when ownership changed and we moved locations . . . the only reason i never came back was cuz i only made $70 a week on ei and would have starved to death 2000km from home. so i got a new job. . . . and y'know what? that was fun too. halifax is awesome. letting employees kinda just have creative freedom and encourage them to be themselves . . . THATS RARE. you dont normally find that spirit in the business world. an oppourtunity to grow. i was sad i had to leave and that ive lost 2 good doughnut jobs by the ocean through no fault of my own. closed for renovations and then covid . . . ive had 3 doughnut jobs total meow and i've never been fired. not once has anyone looked me in the eye and said . . . thats just a good guy. a story teller . . . but that doesnt make me a liar. and tbh. . . a lil greasy but. . . sometimes i want a greasy doughnut y'know? hope you have a five star day

Of course, this magic comes at a cost: while you might assume this is Willy Wonka's doughnut shop based on some of the more eccentric doughnuts found on display, it's not a doughnut factory; only a finite number of tasty treats are made each day. Latecomers may be faced with slim pickings after the hungry hoard of daily travellers completed their pilgrimage first. Also, these doughnuts command a premium price. Expect to drop 80% to 125% more for the privilege of not eating a previously frozen doughnut that's seen more miles traveled than the average Haligonian commuter undertakes over several months. If you're attempting to be the office hero, be prepared to lighten your wallet in exchange for a dozen. Bring cash to avoid the small but still present debit surcharge. No credit cards are accepted. Barely better than Tim Horton's. I heard from an employee that they're made from a boxed donut mix that you just add water to. The only reasons they're so successful: they decorate them with clever pop culture references and elaborate toppings - distracting from the less than mediocre donut below, they're really good at social media, and people haven't had a donut that from anywhere other than Tim Horton's. Go to Espresso 46 and LF bakery

Donuts look very pretty, the dough taste good and that's as far as the positive aspects go. The donuts taste meh, because they all taste the same, for example the orange creamsicle frosting tase the same as the Homer. It should taste like oranges at least. Service is very poor. Staff are confused and not rude, but not overly friendly. I called for service and was told they needed 48 hours in advance... I was 3 days in advance and the girl kept repeating her same message even though it made no sense. Just bad service period. I've never been served by someone happy to work there either (been once to the new location and 3x to the old). Plus you wait in line for long periods of time and when you get to finally order, they're out of vegan donuts (within 3 hours of opening). If the demand is there, you obviously need to supply more. They should also find a way for people not to have to wait in line for something they no longer will have. Maybe the could go around and say: "Hey normal or vegan" and put a sign up when they are out so that people don't wait for ridiculous amounts of time. Altogether, just a badly run business. Oh and basically no parking around. Tim's specialty donuts are better (and cheaper) than theirs. The only really good ones are the long Johns and they look pretty. The o ly other positive aspect is that they have vegan ones. But I don't reccomend this shop. Best of luck to the other stores opening since this is not a great place.

The dough is bar none so tasty and flavourful. I came back twice on a week visit (also the spot down the road .. for science gotta compare) just to eat here, and 100% the donut itself is the star toppings and flair aside I could eat these old fashioned all day. My only downside was I came twice in one week at different times and they had only one flavour to try no variety at all which kinda sucked but other than that stellar.

The doughnuts I tried were 95% the dough. The rest of the toppings were overpowered by how greasy and doughy the doughnuts were. I might as well have gotten a plain doughnut. Also I sat on the bus with the bag on my lap and the grease stained my pants through the bag. Don't make the same mistake I made. If you do, dish soap helps to get it out.

Lift Weights And Forks

I used to quite enjoy Vandal Donuts, however, the past year or so I have noticed the quality has gone way downhill. I always go between 10-11am, usually on Sunday's but sometimes during the week as well. More often than not, the vegan flavors advertised on social media are not what are available. There will be 4-6 flavors advertised but only 3 available and sometimes the flavors there don't even match. The quality of the donuts also seem to have gotten worse over time, with donuts being smaller than they once were and almost tasting stale. Being there as early as I am I wouldn't think they should taste stale already or any flavors be sold out already. Today I got a "spring twist" and the icing had little to no flavor and the donut itself was slightly tough to bite. I also got a chocolate peanut butter and the peanut butter was mostly smeared off and the donut itself was dry. I was there at 11am, Thursday may 13th. My last 3 visits to vandals have been very disappointing, this will probably have been my last visit. Hopefully there will be more vegan donut/dessert options popping up around the city in the future.

I have yet to try their regular menu but I did try their amazing burger week special, so I'd definitely give their regular menu a shot. We're going to order their donuts for a special event and they've been amazing to talk to and work with. Can't recommend them enough!

Me and my girlfriend had burgers there and were going to get some doughnuts. We went and got average service, burgers were alright 4/10 for mine and 6/10 for hers. Mine was the special vandal burger but was very salty and I couldn't finish it. Hers was better but still had an odd off putting taste. Environment needs renovations, was very ghetto. Overall would not go back. Can't speak for the doughnuts as they didn't have any left when we went at 630pm.

This place is awesome. It's tucked into the corner of a grungy music bar in the North End and that just helps to add character. There is always a small line, but it's entertaining to just listen to the staff while you're eyeing the doughnuts - they seem like they have SO. MUCH. FUN. And the doughnuts? Deluxe/gourmet, and absolutely delicious. This isn't your usual tourist spot, but visitors should grab a doughnut while checking out the interesting shops and restaurants in the neighbourhood.

Summary of my review: DREAM DONUTS I received a 6 pack from my sister as a gift and I was overjoyed: incredible presentation and flavours! I didn’t even know I needed them! I highly recommend as a gift for yourself, a loved one, a teacher, a friend, etc - for any occasion! Not really the kind of place you aim to go to, but would stop at if you were on the way somewhere else, but I’m telling you it should be the reason you go out! Well worth the parking hassle!

I shouldn't have had as good an experience as I did. I went 20 minutes before closing, there were only three doughnut flavours left, and there was someone singing Nirvana covers on stage. Recipe for disaster right? Wrong! Not only was the service friendly, but the doughnuts that were left (I bought all three) were delicious! I will definitely have to come back and experience one (or three) of these bad boys fresh.

I've been hoping for a good donut shop for awhile and this is pretty okay! The donuts themselves are very good but the fillings taste canned and the toppings are iffy to my taste. When I visited they had tons of donuts waiting on racks in the rather dirty pub in which vandal is housed which seemed rather gross to me but not enough to stop me from ordering.

Id rather get a dozen for sure. The filling could be a little better. I was a bit put off by the cream in the boston cream, kinda plasticey texture. Also the location inside gus dive bar isnt the best, but i figure you will change this up at some point. I know id at least put pressure on them to vamp the place up a bit.

Independent doughnut shops are certainly popular in most cities, and this place is no exception - a small line stayed steady the whole time I was there. Full disclosure..doughnuts aren't really my thing. Nevertheless, I heard these were great so I went out to grab some for myself and my colleagues. Honestly, I was expecting them to be a bit more reasonably priced - 6 cost almost $20, but I order them so rarely. Were they good? Yes. I'm not overly experimental with them, so I stayed safe in the flavor department. But were they tasty, absolutely. Were they worth $3 each? I'm not sure. Popular for a reason, I'd say if this is your thing you should try them!

Located at Gus's Pub in the old Ace Burger spot...in cramped quarters they produce some great doughnuts with interesting flavors and tastes, as well as a variety of vegan Doughnuts. There is usually, well always a line up so don't come in expecting a quick pop in and out. The doughnuts are worth the wait and if you're lucky like me, you'll snag the last Cookie Monster.

Give here a 4.5 actually. I wasn't sure what to expect, as I'd never been in Gus' Pub, where they must rent out the space. You walk in the door and the stand is right there at the entance way, with a display of maybe a dozen varieties. First visit got two Mr. Hankeys, a UFO, a Homer's Odyssey, and a Purple Rain b/c they all looked cute. They are your standard donut and I would compare them taste-wise to the vanilla dips from Tim Horton's, pretty moist, sweet, you know, a doughnut, but taste fresher and better. The chocolate peanut butter one is good, and I find more filling. For $1.85 each I think, it's a good deal to just in for one as a snack. I will be back to try some of the others, and maybe for lunch one day to try a sandwich. My 2nd visit around 2pm on a sunny, freezing Saturday in Feb - the place was busy! Seven or eight people ahead of me in line and by the time I ordered, that many more were behind me. Staff were going as fast as they could to replenish. I tried the coconut chai this time and it was quite good! The Root Beer Float was ok, had no root beer flavor, which I found disappointing. The Skor Twist is really good, but larger, almost as big as two donuts. The Strawberry Shortcake is very good, quite heavy and I ate over maybe 20 mins. 3rd visit on a cloudy chilly Tuesday in March - we were the only customers in the place. I tried the Freak Lunchbox donut with gummy worms and sour stretchy candy. So pretty! Had no unique flavor, but that's okay. Same with the blueberry dip - expected the icing to have at least a bit of blueberry flavorful, but not really. I like these for the look and they are very fresh (even if other donut shops are fresh, these taste fresher). The Sensual Sensation may be my favorite for taste, with a Ferrero Rocher sitting atop Nutella, with crushed nuts on chocolate icing of a white donut. The vegan Birthday Cake is like a standard vanilla dip, but still good. The Froot Loop one was good, sweet and reminded me a bit of a popcorn kind of flavor, but think that's just me. The Maple Bacon is favorful! For Cinqo de Mayo, they made a plain donut with Mexico flag colors, which was fun. The orange chocolate one was quite good, with a definite orange flavor (moreso than say the blueberry dip had). The Wildberry was yummy! (Purple swirly icing with a wildberry jelly filling, topped with some crushed nuts). The rum & coke is very tasty and filling, albeit no rum flavoring that I could detect, the filling tastes just like the candy Coke bottles that sit on top of the donut. The Reese's Pieces is great but simple, a vanilla donut topped with whole pieces. The Marge (chocolate donut, blue icing, rainbow sprinkles) is simple but tasty. The Kit Kat break donut is large, rectangular with an entire Kit Kat bar inside! (one of their premiums for $4.20) but worth it! The Orange Creamsicle got me excited but it didn't have a strong flavor at all I found. Their "Strange Brew" donut is great - red & black checkered icing on a white donut, filled with tons of coffee-flavored filling, and it is very filling. Their novelty donuts are always clever...a Trump one, and a "Kinky" Trump one for Pride week were hilarious and still delicious. The Mint Aero is good, with chunks of the bar broken atop a double chocolate donut, which may have peppermint extract. The Blueberry Cheesecake is excellent, with a cream cheese layer and big blob of filling, but not as messy to eat as it sounds. Been back many times with a line of 20 people ahead of me one Saturday at 10am. So don't come around that time if you are in a rush. One customer ordered customized donuts without telling the pick-up time, so that held the line up a bit. And they will make ANYTHING for a custom order - I saw erotic ones one day which were hilarious! FYI they devote lots of energy to custom orders, whether it be a small party, large office group, weddings, etc. I've witnessed some amazing donuts on trays that aren't available for regular sale, simply bc I don't think staff can keep up with demand!

I want to give five stars, I really do. Having recently moved here from Ontario, the donut scene in Nova Scotia is an absolute dream. I tried one of their boston cream donuts for the first time at Apt 3 in Lower Sackville and it was amazing! I started following them on IG and fell in love with their teams creativity and product selection! I was so excited to stop in at their store in Halifax, but was a bit disappointed when a sign said "cash or debit only" as I dont typically carry either of those on me and I hadnt seen it advertised anywhere else. The selection in store seemed a bit limited compared to what I had seen online, but maybe they had a really busy day! Will absolutely try again a other time. Really love the fact that they have a charity donut, too. Keep up the great work!

Are Vandal Doughnuts that good? Is it worth all the hype? In a word; yes. The doughnuts are well made and they've got a great selection of types and flavors. They are best in the beginning of the day, because they sell fast! The place is nice and the staff are very friendly. As you can tell the cues are real, so be patient because the donuts are totally worth the wait. If they could make more doughnuts during the day, and perhaps find a way to make the cues go faster it would be a 5/5 stars. The doughnuts though? 10/5 stars. De-lic-ious!

Came here because of all the hype; I've been living in HRM for school for a bit and partner was visiting and we had both seen the lineups at the storefront and thought hey, this must be great! Let me preface by saying that obviously this review is one from two personal taste points of view, so many not be applicable to all. We were both disappointed in the donuts. We bought two supremes and a classic and all of them were extremely greasy. As well, the balance between frosting/extras and the donut is non-existent. The dough really isn't great and it's lacking in some sort of taste profile to balance out the over-abundant and sweet frosting/other extras. They were quite expensive and both of us were hoping this meant the dough would be fantastic. Came to find out it is pre-mixed and not fried properly. This may be a good place for those who like grease + presentation and lots of sweet stuff on their donuts, but I wouldn't call these necessarily "great donuts".

As I read through these reviews I have to wonder, a) did i buy doughnuts at the right place? and, b) have the people with good reviews ever eaten a donut before? Absolutely terrible! Saturday morning and not a sign of freshness anywhere, they all tasted like the oil they were cooked in and were both soggy and dry at the same time. A baffling texture for sure, but definitely not appetizing. I get the feeling I just paid 25 dollars for yesterday's compost. Never again!

Took my 5 year old nephew and father and both of them left very happy! The staff was very friendly and even though we went late in the day and the selection was limited it was still amazing and we found something we all liked.

Today was the 2nd time that we'd ordered their donuts for a kids birthday party and the 2nd time that we'd been met by a disinterested staff member who didn't have any idea where our order was or whether they had any record of our order. I understand that it's just donuts and not the end of the world, but come on. The donuts are great but it's frustrating not being able to reliably order ahead.

Pos: Easy to find. Loads of selection on website. Creative donut decorations. Donut is nice and fluffy. Deals on box of six. Menu available on website. They do large party orders. Open late. Neg: expensive. Different donut has different prices depending on ingredients. End of the day donuts isn't the best, limited options. Cash/debit plus 25cent surcharge, no credit card. Food for thought: Go early or you will miss out of their popular donut. My 4 donuts cost $9 dollars but sized bigger compared to Timmys. For me, this will be a once in a while dessert.

The few time i've had Vandal it's been delicious. however I rarely get to eat them as they constantly sell out. The real issue is the communication system. I've had multiple experience's of going in and them selling out of vegan donuts while I'm there, and they don't notify anyone. I enjoy the food,I know you can preorder, but it's simply ridiculous that I've had multiple experiences of waiting in line 30+ minutes just to be told they are out. Make a sign, post it on social media, do something rather than waste people's time.

Awesome donuts! You've got to go early in the day if you want your pick of flavours - by 2pm the selection starts to get limited and by the end of the day you might not have a choice at all (if there is any left). On recent trip we had the deliciously stupid Trump Dum Nut donut. It was fantastic and everyone loved it.

I was really excited to try some vegan donuts because I can't eat dairy and I've heard so many good things about them. Man, what a let down. They were pretty dry, the icing on top was lumpy and crusty and I was really confused by the flavors.. Two had purple frosting with 3 half rotted raspberries(?) on top, the homer donut was this weird dark purple color and the other 2 were filled with some kind of butterscotch pudding with maple icing on top? Kinda feels like they were thrown together as an afterthought. I didn't even eat them. Maybe they were just having an off day? Not a fan. Sorry!

Exceptionally sweet. Hard to eat more than one. Looks n tastes homemade. A feel-good sugar snack. Vandals is the OG doughnut destination imho because it pre-dates its doughnut-store competition, which is about a block away, and is popular with locals.
