Had the breakfast sandwich, Americano and Hazelnut Oat Fudge bar. All were fantastic. The atmosphere is sunny and welcoming with plenty of seating inside and out (to the rear of building). Parking is sufficient. The menu has an appropriate amount of options and they have seasonal items which change regularly. If you're in the city looking for a nice breakfast place, or a great excuse to get lunch, this is it.

Saturday morning. Ger up and get out the city. Go on a scenic drive past Lawrencetown beach. Or to one of the many hiking locations along the way. They make a mean latte. And the menu is sure to please. Worth the trip.

I have seen a lot of places come and go in this spot and I am so glad that the Rose & Rooster is the place that has stuck around. There's tons of seating, the space is open, and their lemon squares are AMAZING.

Fair prices for the portion and quality of food. Wonderully pleasant and conversational front staff to the food preparers. There is no store bought salad dressing that likens what is made here... Thanks from Pittsburgh!

Lovely family owned cafe with interesting creative menu choices of quality homemade fair. Tastefully minimalist decor, supporting work by local talent. A touch pricey but that reflects the high quality and friendly service.

Tried here for breakfast on a sunny Saturday in Sept 2018. Maybe a 35 minute drive from Clayton Park? Worth it! Nice scenery on Marine Drive too. Anyway, got there, and with seating for only 16 I believe, I got one of the last two free tables. You order at the counter and they give you a number to bring the food to your table. I tried the Sarah's Scramble (a pile of rice & beans topped with eggs scrambled with Aroma Latino chorizo sausage + potatoes, fresh avocado and house-made pico de gallo. $12). Yum. The rice & beans were on the bottom, which I didn't realize at first or would've mixed it all up more, but doesn't matter. Very filling too. Friendly staff. Simple atmosphere with lots of natural light, some merchandise for sale such as the awesome Sissiboo coffee from Annapolis Royal. Lots of room for parking on the dirt lot which surrounds the building. I can't wait to come back here. 2nd visit: an overcast Sunday in June 2019. Arrived about 9:30? There were two tables taken so it was pretty quiet. I tried the CHORIZO BURRITO (scrambled eggs, Aroma Latino chorizo sausage, spiced potatoes, fresh avocado, and PEI cheddar. With house-made rice + beans & pico de gallo. $13). It was delicious as well. Took about 15 minutes to arrive, but that was fine, since I drove over half an hour to get here anyway and intentionally brought a book, to make it a relaxing morning outing. Friendly service still. I WILL be back.

This is a great little place on the Eastern Shore. If you're out for a drive to Lawrencetown Beach, definitely continue on to the Rose and Rooster for brunch or even just a coffee and a treat. The atmosphere is bright, that staff is great and the coffee is always fresh. And OMG the bread. If they have Nova Scotia brown bread, you have to get it! Melts in your mouth. Everything is local from bacon to the bread. And when you are here you feel like you are part of the community.

Alissa K

Delicious food and a must stop on any day trip along the Eastern Shore. I highly recommend the lemon squares!

Scott

Nice local spot to grab a coffee on the way though. Little pricey but it is more of a trendy spot to stop. The small restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly. I recommend you check out the menu on line to see if this would suit your taste before making a special trip.

Reign LeClaim

Delicious coffee and terrific atmosphere. Must stop shop in Grand Desert : )

Krystal Woo

The food here is always excellent and supports local farms. In addition, there are many carry out items as well as take to make at home. The staff is always friendly and there's free wifi to boot. The menu items do reflect the quality of food and are a little pricier than other places, but again, is well worth it.

Meh. Food was ok, latte was good, atmosphere was super changeable. When I first arrived it was comfy and calm but became chaotic as the customers changed. Just as busy all morning. My food took ages to be ready. Nearly 45 minutes for veggie eggs benny. Would only be back if visiting a friend in the area who wanted to go.

Darrell Bardua

Heat staff friendly. Amazing coffee and fresh bakes goodies. Great vibe clean and worth the visit. Go check it out become a regular.

This is an absolute must-go place. Anyone who is addicted to soup-and-sandwich, you should definitely go for the soup of the day. Smell of the bread they bake in house will make your experience top-notch. And coffee ☕️ lovers, lemon square with a cup of Americano will keep you coming back for more!

Finally, a place that understands granola needs a good amount of yogurt. Comes in separate bowls for those who disagree. Apple preserve on the side was done to perfection. Comprehensive menu, for a small place: sandwiches, wraps and soups, etc. Seating out front, inside, and on rear deck. Very peaceful for a lunchtime. And great coffee. These guys care.

Meal took 51 minutes to arrive. Since coffee is given when you place order, it was gone long before that as well as the $1. refill. People who came after we placed our order had received theirs and left before ours arrived. When food (fish cakes and beans) did come, beans were piping hot but completely dried out on top. So had been sitting somewhere for a while and rewarmed. Have been there many times before. First time this year. Not their usual standard.

Quaint little restaurant we found, husband had the Clam Chowder I had the Samosa wrap, both were excellent. Staff were great. Visiting here from Bobcaygeon Ontario.

Sandy Bryson

We had breakfast at Rose & Rooster this morning and ate outside on the rear deck . Staff was great and the food was amazing and plenty of it . Will go back again , for sure .

dharv22

Unfortunate. One of us ate for $27. 2 fish cakes ..they were ok...and handful of salad. And a brownie. Outside seating is very uncomfortable. Served food at a side counter with no one there to ask if you needed anything else...which of course I would have liked to have had the option of salt and pepper and ketchup. I had to wait to ask for it and It seemed like a nuisance. Had to go back in for the brownie and was passed a paper bag with a cold hard brownie...no fork.. no plate.. no napkin.. nothing. And good service would have been to ask if I would like it heated. Terrible service. No receipt and left hungry .Won't see me again!

Drove out from Halifax for a bite to eat and it actually took longer to get our food then it did to drive out there. We waited an hour for an egg, a clubhouse , and a pulled pork sandwich. The club had cold meat and was served with lukewarm bread that was warmed in a toaster. It was more like a soggy BLT with poultry then a club. The pulled pork was good but not very warm. The egg was good ... but an hour... really? I would have walked out if my family wasnt with me and extremely hungry. Definitely was not worth the waste of time driving out for.

We were looking for a decent coffee on a late Monday morning, and where very happily surprised to find this little gem. Not only is their coffee and baking just excellent, the overall vibe and the aromas coming from the kitchen quickly convinced us to stay for lunch. We enjoyed the local art on display, the relaxed mood and the pleasant service from and conversation with the co-owner who clearly is passionate about the community - and food that's not only good for body and planet but also very (very!) yummy, with everything made from scratch on the premises. If I lived just a little closer I'd be there every day. But for now we know where to stop when in the neighbourhood.

ROSE and ROOSTER CAFE WORST SERVICE EVER! So we were recommend to go try this place and why not on a rainy holiday. We make the 40 minute drive and arrive and it’s busy with very limited seating because of COVID. But we say it will be worth it and wait. Waited 25 minutes for a table, placed our order and received my coffee and hubby’s water right away. Finished my coffee and wanted a refill so went up to the counter and purchased a refill and two of their homemade sweets. And we waited and waited and waited. 30 minutes go by and we noticed another table was served their food and we sat before them. Ok we know they are busy so we wait some more. Finally after 45 minutes my husband goes up to the counter to ask about our meals. THEY DIDNT HAVE OUR FOOD ORDERED, looked at us like we had 10 heads when asked how long it would be! We were not checked on once or asked by the owner who sat us, looked at us, but never once came over to see that we might be waiting. She even apologized for my wait when I went to get my 2nd coffee and it still didn’t clue in!!! We did get a half hearted apology and our money back, but here we sit in Porters Lake hungry and disappointed. We will never go back and you should stay away! They obviously cannot handle a busy day or remember a simple order of eggs Benedict. UN REAL

Joe Maola

Great food in an unpretentious setting. The best seafood chowder I have ever eaten.

Ian

Not reliable for catering. Ordered once in 2018 for birthday catering and they made the food but forgot to make the birthday cake. Tried again this year and they said should be fine and the baker would call to confirm the order the day before pickup. Didn't hear anything from them so called the restaurant at 1pm and was told they were too busy. By this time it's too late to order from anywhere else. Impossible to depend on a business like this for an event.

Kevin Payne

Great little cafe. Excellent food and coffee.

Shannon Fox

We stopped for a very late lunch on our drive back to Dartmouth Sunday afternoon. My youngest daughter ordered the Cuban sandwich and had been raving about it ever since. My eldest has a grilled cheese and said it too was great. I had the chowder and not a bite didn’t have seafood in it. Then we took three squares for dessert to go. All delicious. And they’re open through winter. Highly recommended.

This cafe is a pure gem along our eastern shore with a sweet water view from its back deck. It attracts an eclectic mix of folks - from surfers and cottagers, to artists and cyclists - probably because it offers a little something for everyone (including a couple gluten free and vegan treats) and there are some premade frozen options if you're looking to grab something for lunch or dinner at home. I've never had to wait long to be served and staff are always delightful. Wonderful coffee, sweets and savoury fare. Makes a great little day trip from Hali and then you can take in some other eastern shore sights like Lawrencetown Beach, or Hope for Wildlife. Go, make a day of it!
