Friendly staff Food is excellent and made fresh.
Best place to be in the Eastern Shore of NS. They have a beautiful patio overlooking a lake.
Lovely spot with lake view from deck. Amazing food! Home baked goods and good coffee/expresso. Diverse menu. Highly recommend!
Love this place a must stop
Love the food!!
Perfect spot! Love local
Chill atmosphere and yummy food
Had the breakfast sandwich, Americano and Hazelnut Oat Fudge bar. All were fantastic. The atmosphere is sunny and welcoming with plenty of seating inside and out (to the rear of building). Parking is sufficient. The menu has an appropriate amount of options and they have seasonal items which change regularly. If you're in the city looking for a nice breakfast place, or a great excuse to get lunch, this is it.
Best London fog I’ve ever had and the millionaire shortbread is a must try!
Lunch
in-house made goodies are yummy.
Clean place, courteous & friendly staff, and the pain perdu is delicious!
Love love love the rose and rooster. Great coffee and treats.
The milk was overheated for the latte, the fishcakes were lacking cod and taste. The eggs Benny were fabulous! Seafood chowder was delightfully yummy. Oh and the eggs.... Definitely! Great atmosphere!
Rose and Rooster is always a good choice for breakfast or lunch! Their friendly staff makes delicious coffee and food. My favs are breakfast Buddah bowl or fish cakes on beans and always, always get a millionaire square for dessert!!
Excellent breakfast and brunch. The coffee here is some of the best in the province!
What cute coffee shop! Great local place to eat out and also I enjoyed the local vibe in Grand Dessert! Staff are super friendly.
Food was fast and delicious, proper portions and great menu. Excellent cappuccino! Small cafe with not many tables. But with such fast service, it wasn't a problem. Definitely going to go back.
Hidden gem on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia!
Good breakfast and lunch selections.
Out for a Canada Day bike ride, perfect little spot to stop for a drink or bite to eat.
Saturday morning. Ger up and get out the city. Go on a scenic drive past Lawrencetown beach. Or to one of the many hiking locations along the way. They make a mean latte. And the menu is sure to please. Worth the trip.
Absolutely love this place. It’s got a great vibe and everyone who works there is awesome. Food & coffees are top notch. I highly recommend taking the drive out, if you haven’t already. Makes for a nice Sunday drive destination.
Great food and nice people.
Quite honestly one of the best cafes I've ever been to. Incredible coffee and it really captures the artisan spirit in this community
Great food and place to stop
Great meal and coffee today!
Great stopping place for a coffee on a bike ride!
Beet bowl was delicious. Friendly staff and assorted goodies!
Excellent coffee! Amazing baked goods, and delicious soups! Wonderful atmosphere in the best of places, Grand Desert! Wifi to boot, stop in for a cuppa!
Charming, great service, and delicious food. A must visit if you are in the area.
Everything was great. The staff, the food, the coffee. It's one of those small out of the way places that you like finding
When I'm out cycling I often stop in for lunch and coffee. Delicious food in a funky atmosphere! Love that they have a sunny deck out back to enjoy in the summer.
Coffees and fruit and walnut squares are awesome. Did an afternoon Sunday drive out if the city and stopped for coffee.
Great spot!
A chill spot to have a really tasty meal. Just sucks that the parking lot is always so hectic, esp being on the highway near a turn
Sissiboo coffee. Innovative menu. Tasty healthy options.
Good food and coffee
This place is a hidden gem. Deck with a view of the lake, awesome service and delicious food. Fish cakes are heavily recommended. Nice spot on Blueberry run trail. will be visiting often
Had an excellent breakfast, fish cakes and eggs, molasses bread toast and baked beans! Coffee was a great roast! Would go out of my way to go back!
Lovely cafe. Great coffee and breakfast sandwich!!
Friendly staff, great food, and amazing coffee set in a sweet little community. Definitely worth the the drive!
I have seen a lot of places come and go in this spot and I am so glad that the Rose & Rooster is the place that has stuck around. There's tons of seating, the space is open, and their lemon squares are AMAZING.
Fair prices for the portion and quality of food. Wonderully pleasant and conversational front staff to the food preparers. There is no store bought salad dressing that likens what is made here... Thanks from Pittsburgh!
Good coffee and treats. Their menu sounds delicious!
What a great café. Absolutely delicious and I certainly hit the spot along my travels.
Great food; local sourced as much as possible. Keep missing the fish cakes. Very personable staff.
Was a very cute place with tasty food and beverages. Definitely worth the drive.
Fantastic hiden gem
We are from the Toronto area and found this restaurant on Google. Excellent food and good price 5 stars!
Awesome little cafe with great food. Had the chicken avocado sandwich and it was so yummy.
Love this place
Amazing food! Well worth the drive.
Another scrumptious supper special (for St. Patrick's Day)!
You gotta stop here, mmmmmm
Great stop near seashore
Wonderfully quaint spot with a very fresh menu. It came highly recommended, and actually exceeded expectations.
Great Food and always friendly Staff
Lunch for four, and everyone enjoyed their meal. Hearty fish chowder, kimchee wrap, grilled cheese and salad were all incredible. Add in various coffees and drinks and everyone left well fed.
Meal type
Beautiful spot... and amazingly delicious food!
Mouthwatering breakfast ????????????
I stopped in after leaving the beach; such a cute café! There’s a food menu, outdoor/indoor seating, fresh baked goods, fair trade coffee, and local products. Not too far from Lawrencetown Beach; I recommend stopping in!
WOW...great food and the staff is very welcoming, a new and perfect place for me. 5 stars is not enough.
Lovely family owned cafe with interesting creative menu choices of quality homemade fair. Tastefully minimalist decor, supporting work by local talent. A touch pricey but that reflects the high quality and friendly service.
Tried here for breakfast on a sunny Saturday in Sept 2018. Maybe a 35 minute drive from Clayton Park? Worth it! Nice scenery on Marine Drive too. Anyway, got there, and with seating for only 16 I believe, I got one of the last two free tables. You order at the counter and they give you a number to bring the food to your table. I tried the Sarah's Scramble (a pile of rice & beans topped with eggs scrambled with Aroma Latino chorizo sausage + potatoes, fresh avocado and house-made pico de gallo. $12). Yum. The rice & beans were on the bottom, which I didn't realize at first or would've mixed it all up more, but doesn't matter. Very filling too. Friendly staff. Simple atmosphere with lots of natural light, some merchandise for sale such as the awesome Sissiboo coffee from Annapolis Royal. Lots of room for parking on the dirt lot which surrounds the building. I can't wait to come back here. 2nd visit: an overcast Sunday in June 2019. Arrived about 9:30? There were two tables taken so it was pretty quiet. I tried the CHORIZO BURRITO (scrambled eggs, Aroma Latino chorizo sausage, spiced potatoes, fresh avocado, and PEI cheddar. With house-made rice + beans & pico de gallo. $13). It was delicious as well. Took about 15 minutes to arrive, but that was fine, since I drove over half an hour to get here anyway and intentionally brought a book, to make it a relaxing morning outing. Friendly service still. I WILL be back.
Delicious
Best fish chowder ever.
One of my favourite spots for coffee, snacks, and breakfast/lunch. They take their time with the food, but it is worth the wait.
Good fishcakes
Great place to stop on a rainy day for a bowl of soup!
Great relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, awesome food and coffee.
This is a great little place on the Eastern Shore. If you're out for a drive to Lawrencetown Beach, definitely continue on to the Rose and Rooster for brunch or even just a coffee and a treat. The atmosphere is bright, that staff is great and the coffee is always fresh. And OMG the bread. If they have Nova Scotia brown bread, you have to get it! Melts in your mouth. Everything is local from bacon to the bread. And when you are here you feel like you are part of the community.
Delicious food and a must stop on any day trip along the Eastern Shore. I highly recommend the lemon squares!
Nice local spot to grab a coffee on the way though. Little pricey but it is more of a trendy spot to stop. The small restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly. I recommend you check out the menu on line to see if this would suit your taste before making a special trip.
Delicious coffee and terrific atmosphere. Must stop shop in Grand Desert : )
The food here is always excellent and supports local farms. In addition, there are many carry out items as well as take to make at home. The staff is always friendly and there's free wifi to boot. The menu items do reflect the quality of food and are a little pricier than other places, but again, is well worth it.
What a great place to stop and grab a bite to eat. Girls were great and the food was all made in house and from local suppliers. Great place in Nova Scotia to see
Meh. Food was ok, latte was good, atmosphere was super changeable. When I first arrived it was comfy and calm but became chaotic as the customers changed. Just as busy all morning. My food took ages to be ready. Nearly 45 minutes for veggie eggs benny. Would only be back if visiting a friend in the area who wanted to go.
Heat staff friendly. Amazing coffee and fresh bakes goodies. Great vibe clean and worth the visit. Go check it out become a regular.
This is an absolute must-go place. Anyone who is addicted to soup-and-sandwich, you should definitely go for the soup of the day. Smell of the bread they bake in house will make your experience top-notch. And coffee ☕️ lovers, lemon square with a cup of Americano will keep you coming back for more!
Coffee was fantastic breakfast was quite good and quickly served very friendly lots of laughter in the building will definitely be coming back
Fun stop along the way. Beauty teas, coffees and expresso drinks. Lemon square is delish. Great cards and local gifts. Make a visit when in Nova Scotia.
Great breakfast and nice atmosphere
Excellent bakery/cafe with handcrafted pastries, breakfasts, lunches. Great coffee. Beautiful location.
A very enjoyable brunch!!
Sweet little spot with delicious breakfast/brunch and lunch. Definitely will be back! Acadian Benny was delish!
Great coffee.
Quick, friendly and yummy!
Great food and their desserts were incredible.
Finally, a place that understands granola needs a good amount of yogurt. Comes in separate bowls for those who disagree. Apple preserve on the side was done to perfection. Comprehensive menu, for a small place: sandwiches, wraps and soups, etc. Seating out front, inside, and on rear deck. Very peaceful for a lunchtime. And great coffee. These guys care.
Excellent service and fantastic food!
Delicious food and drink, you must stop here if you're close.
Fantastic food!
10/10 bakery. The bread on Wednesday is the highlight of my week
Service
Stop for wine or beer and sit outside. Has water view and awesome lunch. Big portions. Not many spots to stop on this waterside route. Don’t miss this one.
Food was great.
Meal took 51 minutes to arrive. Since coffee is given when you place order, it was gone long before that as well as the $1. refill. People who came after we placed our order had received theirs and left before ours arrived. When food (fish cakes and beans) did come, beans were piping hot but completely dried out on top. So had been sitting somewhere for a while and rewarmed. Have been there many times before. First time this year. Not their usual standard.
Quaint little restaurant we found, husband had the Clam Chowder I had the Samosa wrap, both were excellent. Staff were great. Visiting here from Bobcaygeon Ontario.
We had breakfast at Rose & Rooster this morning and ate outside on the rear deck . Staff was great and the food was amazing and plenty of it . Will go back again , for sure .
Unfortunate. One of us ate for $27. 2 fish cakes ..they were ok...and handful of salad. And a brownie. Outside seating is very uncomfortable. Served food at a side counter with no one there to ask if you needed anything else...which of course I would have liked to have had the option of salt and pepper and ketchup. I had to wait to ask for it and It seemed like a nuisance. Had to go back in for the brownie and was passed a paper bag with a cold hard brownie...no fork.. no plate.. no napkin.. nothing. And good service would have been to ask if I would like it heated. Terrible service. No receipt and left hungry .Won't see me again!
Drove out from Halifax for a bite to eat and it actually took longer to get our food then it did to drive out there. We waited an hour for an egg, a clubhouse , and a pulled pork sandwich. The club had cold meat and was served with lukewarm bread that was warmed in a toaster. It was more like a soggy BLT with poultry then a club. The pulled pork was good but not very warm. The egg was good ... but an hour... really? I would have walked out if my family wasnt with me and extremely hungry. Definitely was not worth the waste of time driving out for.
Excellent food and cappuccino! Friendly service and home baked bread....what is not to like??
Great food , service and coffee!
Service is great and the aesthetics are very nice! Great drinks too.
(Translated) A quaint Canadian café that has a great breakfast ready for everyone who stops there, definitely worth a stop. (Original) Ein uriges canadische Café was für jeden der dort einkehrt, ein super Frühstück bereit hält, Auf jedenfall ein stop wert.
An amazing stop on the way to the beach or if you're just driving the Nova Scotia roads. Great coffee, staff and most importantly food. The menu is unique and all-encompassing.
Great tasting food. Friendly staff. Down home, country feel with environmentally-conscious utensils etc. Amazing ciche, soups and snacks
Very welcoming and friendly staff, fresh and local food and drinks. One of our favorite bakeries/cafes!
We were looking for a decent coffee on a late Monday morning, and where very happily surprised to find this little gem. Not only is their coffee and baking just excellent, the overall vibe and the aromas coming from the kitchen quickly convinced us to stay for lunch. We enjoyed the local art on display, the relaxed mood and the pleasant service from and conversation with the co-owner who clearly is passionate about the community - and food that's not only good for body and planet but also very (very!) yummy, with everything made from scratch on the premises. If I lived just a little closer I'd be there every day. But for now we know where to stop when in the neighbourhood.
Great food, great coffee, great atmosphere.
Delicious food! Great coffee! 19$ with 20 percent tip and one refill coffee.
Take out
Lemon, oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies.... we couldn't decide so had one of each. Oatmeal was the best but all were good!
Great place!
We all loved it!
yum
Amazing breakfast and very cool vibe. Great little hidden gem!
ROSE and ROOSTER CAFE WORST SERVICE EVER! So we were recommend to go try this place and why not on a rainy holiday. We make the 40 minute drive and arrive and it’s busy with very limited seating because of COVID. But we say it will be worth it and wait. Waited 25 minutes for a table, placed our order and received my coffee and hubby’s water right away. Finished my coffee and wanted a refill so went up to the counter and purchased a refill and two of their homemade sweets. And we waited and waited and waited. 30 minutes go by and we noticed another table was served their food and we sat before them. Ok we know they are busy so we wait some more. Finally after 45 minutes my husband goes up to the counter to ask about our meals. THEY DIDNT HAVE OUR FOOD ORDERED, looked at us like we had 10 heads when asked how long it would be! We were not checked on once or asked by the owner who sat us, looked at us, but never once came over to see that we might be waiting. She even apologized for my wait when I went to get my 2nd coffee and it still didn’t clue in!!! We did get a half hearted apology and our money back, but here we sit in Porters Lake hungry and disappointed. We will never go back and you should stay away! They obviously cannot handle a busy day or remember a simple order of eggs Benedict. UN REAL
(Translated) this little cafe in the middle of nowhere, no, but what a beautiful find. I ate a cup cake crumble and rhubarb with an espresso, delicious !!!! (Original) ce petit café au milieu de nulle part, non mais quelle belle trouvaille. j ai mangé un cup cake crumble et rhubarbe avec un expresso, délicieux!!!!
Great little spot to stop and have a coffee or one of their tasty sandwiches
Delicious coffee & baked goods!
Great food in an unpretentious setting. The best seafood chowder I have ever eaten.
Not reliable for catering. Ordered once in 2018 for birthday catering and they made the food but forgot to make the birthday cake. Tried again this year and they said should be fine and the baker would call to confirm the order the day before pickup. Didn't hear anything from them so called the restaurant at 1pm and was told they were too busy. By this time it's too late to order from anywhere else. Impossible to depend on a business like this for an event.
Great little cafe. Excellent food and coffee.
We stopped for a very late lunch on our drive back to Dartmouth Sunday afternoon. My youngest daughter ordered the Cuban sandwich and had been raving about it ever since. My eldest has a grilled cheese and said it too was great. I had the chowder and not a bite didn’t have seafood in it. Then we took three squares for dessert to go. All delicious. And they’re open through winter. Highly recommended.
Awesome
Awesome food! Great coffee. Friendly smiles from everyone!
Wonderful place to eat or just get a coffee and snacks! great atmosphere and super friendly staff as well!
Great place after a bike ride3
Good coffee.
This cafe is a pure gem along our eastern shore with a sweet water view from its back deck. It attracts an eclectic mix of folks - from surfers and cottagers, to artists and cyclists - probably because it offers a little something for everyone (including a couple gluten free and vegan treats) and there are some premade frozen options if you're looking to grab something for lunch or dinner at home. I've never had to wait long to be served and staff are always delightful. Wonderful coffee, sweets and savoury fare. Makes a great little day trip from Hali and then you can take in some other eastern shore sights like Lawrencetown Beach, or Hope for Wildlife. Go, make a day of it!
What a nice spot for lunch. Their menu is great and the food delicious. A gourmet touch to all your diner favorites. Locally sourced food and beverages. Vegan friendly. I highly recommend.
Nice friendly service. Simple menu but very tasty. Try the Korean wrap and the breakfast sandwich. Not fancy but clean
A favorite of ours for breakfast, lunch, coffee, and treats! Cozy space to sit and work, meet people, and enjoy the best food around (and the best lemon squares in existence). Staff are friendly, helpful and quick.
Oh my GOSH the coffee was good! Great service! Definitely will be back.
