Pete’s is a Halifax treasure
Sucks. I tried ordering a breakfast sandwich, couldn't even get the attention of any of the three people working there.
The 1st Pete's in Halifax and arguably still the best. The produce is the prime attraction: great selection, great quality, and a good selection of organic produce.
Large selection of cheese, exotic fruit, amazing vegetables, healthy snacks and spices. Above all, their sea food and meat stall are the best. Must go for amazing ingredients. Excellent staff
Awesome place to visit if you are a foodie. Great fresh prepared and local food and smoothies. Foods from around the world and groceries to cover your every need. Always visit when we're in Halifax.
Best fresh food & deli in Halifax.
Great selection
Not bad, but I find the prices have gone up, and the quality of the ready made food has gone down. I see a partnership with Farm Boy as the were some FB products, hope to see more in the future.
Fantastic food store even if you are there just to browse.
A bit pricey but a great selection of healthy products from snacks to meat
I'm coming back for sure.
Expensive but has obscure items.
Am I the only one who thinks this is store is absurdly expensive? $18 for a small peanut butter that I can get from Whole Foods in Vancouver for $6? Same brand! I've lived in Monaco and Cayman Islands. I never thought a store in Halifax would sell food for 50% more than those high net worth locales. It's not that I don't have money, it's just that smart people with money still don't want to be ripped off.
Absolutely gorgeous grocery store. The staff members I spoke with were friendly and knowledgeable. I'll definitely shop there again (the next time I'm in Halifax)
Love the sweet potato and chickpea salad. I’d hate to know the calories but it is a delicious treat once in a while. Good spot to stop for road trip snacks.
Great friendly staff, always with good advice.
Pete's frootique is a long term goto for me when I want high quality and unusual selections. The staff are awesome ????
Great selection of "premium" and imported goods. Priced accordingly, but not outrageous.
Great selection of food and snacks!
I love Pete's. It's like Halifax's version of whole foods. Try the prepared foods and smoothies. Great spot to grab lunch. Also their bread selection is outstanding.
When I traveled in Halifax, I was shopping for my family's supper because here is very close to my hotel. Because I think that the concept of this market is for single or double households, most of the products are packaged in small units. For your information, I am from Alberta, so we don't have Pete's Fine Foods near here.
Downtown Halifax's fresh grocer
Excellent selection of products and great place to buy lunch.
Lots of variety. Great place for lunch or to pick up a snack!
Great place to find unusual foods. However, they have certain products that are commonly found for 20-30% less. They have great, beyond high-quality lunch options for a reasonable price.
Not a bad grocery store. You can find some interesting international products. I have stumbled across some fruits that for some reason had dye in it. It must have been a bad thawing process. Some of the staff doesn't seem to want to interact with customers all that much. They could be more friendlier.
Love discovering new things each time I come here :)
Smoothie tasted like mouldy strawberries in it !!
Good selection of fruits and veggies. The long line up was efficiently moved through the cashes. Well done.
Great selection of international and British foods. Really nice selection of chocolate.
Produce quality is very bad. Paid extra but had to throw away cucumbers, grapes.
A good place for some fine fooding. mainly UK imports and local organic fruits. Prices are higher than a regular super store.
Always fresh and good great staff
What a wonderful place. Every imaginable thing is available here. And in such wonderful variety. It's a Pity it's two and a half hours away from my home. But well worth the drive.
Cashier 406 is the rudest most ignorant staff member this location has ever had. No manners, and grabbing money from my mom who happens to be a senior citizen is reprehensible. No apology was given even after I called him out for his behavior.
Quality and variety is there in this store.very unique experience.
This is my favourite place to shop for produce, meats & breads!
Some many people frequent the store, hard to keep everything in-stock. Couldn't find Frontier gingered carrot soup mix had to go to Halifax Pete's.
Fresh food, awesome health lunch options and friendly staff, all in a convenient central location. It can be pricey but they have a lot of items you won't find elsewhere.
Good but price expensive
Fresh. Organic. Local.
This is the best place for hard to find foods in the city. Not cheap, but worth it.
Good ol Pete's
This is where I get the healthiest of healthy foods <3
Nice food. I never tasted such good food.
Good but pricey
Fantastic selection of goods that you can't really find elsewhere in the province. Friendly staff, and a pleasant store layout. Some imported food items are on the expensive side, but that goes with the territory of being "imported"
Amazing variety of fresh produce along with a fantastic deli
A little on the pricey side for some things, but a lot of interesting selections available
great spot for lunch or groceries for those looking to buy local
Great selection, awesome food service
Great store and lunch!
High quality food. Great service.
Pete's is a great specialty grocery store. It has a wide variety of products that cater to alternative diets as well as everyday food. Because it is a specialty store, the prices are a little high. The store is well organized but due to the small halifax location, getting around within the store is fairly cramped. Overall Pete's is definitely worth a visit if you're curious and have a bit of extra grocery money.
Great produce, sadly very expensive for everyday purchases.
Pete's is expensive, but it has amazing things! Their store made food is great
The selection imported delectable is extensive
Fantastic options, 3/$5 avocados is a seller
Amazing selection of specialty groceries
Well kept. Good options. The staff always been helpful. Only issue is u need to make atleast $20 purchase for free parking ????????. That's why I usually end up going to bedford for the convenience n accessibility. But again both are awesome when it comes to products n service
Widest variety of local and imported foods. Fresh and great quality. Yummy prepared meals.
Other then running out of the savoury danish. Their staff is helpful and the food is good.
Great variety of fresh food and produce
A great local version of Whole Foods. I had lunch here with my family - Paninis, smoothies, and salad were all excellent, and for dessert, we all shared a PB-Banana-Bacon Crepe.
Great food and local.
Good sandwiches. Amazing produce selection.
Good quality produce and other products. Salad bar items are good too. But limited organic produce items. I hope they store more organic produce in the future, and also more bulk.
Best selection of groceries. Delicious premade food, particularly soup, build your own salad, somosas and smoothies. Friendly, helpful staff. Great location.
Best salad bar in the city! $10. Omelettes, fresh paninis and shakes also available. Attached to somewhat fancy grocery store (Pete's Frootique). Always a good choice!
It's pretty pricey, but the quality is amazing. Their salad and Sandwich bar are worth it!
A smaller sized grocer compared to the bigger names in town but their selection is always good, and sometimes interesting thanks to the imports they offer too. You may spend more here but you may find better quality too in some cases. The deli and baked goods offered are very good for what I've tried. Also, they have a fudge station.
Amazing selection of goods to choose from! Highly recommended!
Great food but expensive than other stores!
Pete's has an array of pretty much any possible grocery item you could ever want including one of the most varied fruit and vegetable sections in the city. If you're looking for something from 'the old country', check out their international and import shelves. In addition to groceries, the lunch counter offers really terrific and healthy options, catering to the business and shopper crowd. Check out their salad bar for one of the better deals going. They just packed the stuff into the containers to the point where it's almost too much for lunch. Almost...
Great place for a quick lunch or fresh veggies!
Always a solid spot for a quick pre made lunch. Fresh, quality foods. You get what you pay for.
Always a unique experience. Makes the mundane tasks of getting groceries much more enjoyable. Helpful staff, and delicious food. Best produce selection in Canada
Cool store, nice selection of cheese, fruit and European goods They offer cool services like cutting your produce for you as you wait
great great place with lots of international products
Grand variety and choice of produce.
Great place to get fresh veggies and fruit, especially ones you cannot find somewhere else. Staff is very nice and helpful. Prices are a bit higher than the grocery store.
This was not made by me but a previous employee. But it roughly sums up my experience. Considering I was banned from the store for making a customer service complaint, by the management there. Terrible company. Bottom line concern, no respect for customers BR (Current Employee) – HRM, NS – March 5, 2015 I was horrified to find out the majority of "freshly made" soups were made with meat that passed the expiration date, and they couldn't sell it anymore. If you are asked to work, they will not pay you for the day. I had to call the labor board on them twice. They re-use things that should be thrown away and have been known to profit on other grocery store's rejected produce. Great coworkers, terrible management Cons minimum wage no matter how much expierence
Little pricey, great imports and produce.
Great selection of unique fresh, foods.
Great local grocery store specializing in european and food styles and imports. Check it out!
Food court is very good. Had an excellent egg Benedictine done with a crepe. Delicious.
Could find everything i wanted good selection
High quality products. Great staff.
When I’m feeling homesick I turn to Pete’s for yellow yam, breadfruit and jackfruit ???? ... it means a lot to have access to these things (most people don’t know what they are), but thanks Pete’s.
Meh. This was my first trip to Pete’s- in spite of hearing rave reviews for years. I was disappointed. Most of the leafy green produce was wilted and just …meh. Overpriced and nothing special. I suspect that this is mostly due to the Sobey’s management which bought out Pete’s a couple of years ago. Staff were friendly and helpful but the actual products in the store were mostly not anything special and definitely a bit overpriced. It was the Tuesday after thanksgiving, so maybe I’ll give it another chance. I suspect it was better stocked on the Thursday before the long cooking weekend (one would think).
Good selection and quality, pricey but rightfully so
Petes is the best place ever! Fresh food! Organic! Clean! Usually nice staff! Good for quick food on the go!
Poor customer service when product was not on file. I had to wait while an employee went back and forth to figure out why a local hot sauce wasn't on file even though they knew the price to charge, and left empty handed when it took 15 minutes and nothing had been resolved yet. It's not the customer's problem if the item isn't on file, charge the price on the sign and figure it out after.
It feels like you are in a fantasy cave of foodie wonders. It costs $$$ like you are in living in 2050 and water costs more than gold. I am not sure I want so much specialness in my food. Great for a special ingredient. It makes a great food-theme-park, but for that just head away from Spring Garden to the giant farmer's markets instead.
I’m always looking for a good place to get a proper deli sandwich. I’ve found it! I got roasted chicken, which is a nice, quality chicken breast sliced up in front of you. And they have cooked mushrooms to put on your sandwich, yum! Also, my cherry chia recovery smoothie was delish!
I love the selection but I often find the same stuff for cheaper elsewhere.
Good place, just could not find good green tea
EDIT: updated as I've just eaten at Pete's Gluten Free Eatery downtown. It was delicious - I had an arugula salad with apple, pecans, dried cranberry, and a maple honey dressing. Honestly, I saw the kiosk in the food court and had the initial reaction of "oh, it's probably semi-dry muffins and uninspired sandwiches" and I couldn't have been more wrong. Worth checking out if you're around near lunchtime! A little pricier than a Superstore or Sobeys, but Pete's delivers on so many levels. Fresh food, great selection, and amazing to-go sandwiches, soups, and salads. They've been purchased by a larger company, but hopefully things continue as per usual - Pete's is where I would do my grocery shopping on the regular if I lived nearby.
Kind of unique grocery store, you will find stuff here not in superstore or sobyes.
Always pleased with my smoothies here and I love the ‘Chicken Parm Sandwich! The staff always seem really tired. 3 STARS for an overall good experience shopping and eating here.
Very friendly at the butcher!
Always a pleasure to shop at Pete's. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The produce is fresh and there's a great selection of international foods too. You will pay a bit more for your grocery staples here but they are just for convenience. Pete's is really about providing shoppers with food items and service you just can't find elsewhere.
You get what you pay for...great products!
Good selection of fresh vegetables and fruit with a good mix of spices and imported goods
The store that carries all of those "where do I buy that?" food items.
Pete's has a great selection of imported products but also lots of local products too. Will definitely be returning many times in the future.
A bit expensive but you can find something that you can't in other supermarkets
Nice specialty food store
The store hours are the worst. Where superstore even during the pandemic stays open till 10 and walmart and sobeys till 11 or perhaps also 10 these guys are closed shut sharp at 8.
Great options and good quality food.
My go-to store for fruits and vegetables...amazing quality.
I had an amazing rice and bean wrap with my brother their first time really really good
My favorite thing about this Pete's is the salad and sandwich shop. I especially like to get the fully loaded salads. They have so many toppings, mostly healthy, that you can get more than your recommended servings of fruit and vegetables. The trade off, of course, is that you will pay through your nose for it. Not a budget lunch, especially if you'd like to add a meat portion to the salad. The rest of the store is great as well with a lot of hard to find items and plenty of high quality produce, much of it organic. All priced accordingly of course.
A great variety of foods, including hard to find and imported continental varieties. The bakery has a great variety too
Great atmosphere and "farmer's market" vibes, but can be a little expensive. Their prepared foods are very delicious though! Try their chicken tostada or risotto ball!
I get the salad and it's the best in town. Great selection of veggies, protein and dressing.
Lots of options. Lines move slowly
I went to the eatery and got the Lemon Grove Green Tea once and the Coconut Key Tea the next. Both were VERY good and a decent price at $1.70. I also tried the coconut macaroon. Delicious!
Fresh produce and they have exotic fruits and vegetables you won't find elsewhere. Their bakery section is very good and there is a sit down restaurant offering fresh salad, pasta and juice bar.
A very well-put-together grocery store catering to the upper-middle end of the income spectrum. They carry a lot of exotic produce and imported foods you won't find elsewhere, as well as locally sourced meats and veggies. Affordable deli options and a pleasant seating area make it a nice place to stop for lunch as well.
A tad pricey, but great British goods
I'm lucky, they had a couple sales today! The quality of the produce is from iffy to great, so watch what you pick up! The service is fine enough, but maybe some of them are tired. Some can seem pretty deadpan. Still, worth peeking into and grabbing something!
Excellent customer service! My mother was having a hard time finding an item and halifax petes was the only place it was available. She was unable to go to the halifax location and they great to suggest that they can deliver it to her. Thanks Pete's!
so many options, and smoothies and wraps are amazing
Good place to grab some groceries on the way home from work. A bit more expensive than other grocery stores in the area. But that can be made up by unique items and local ingredients.
It is a very nice place with all kind of groceries. Just a bit costly, but if u wanna save yourself from the hurdle of traveling more than half an hour to reach to walmart, this is the place.
Very nice shopping experience. Lots of selection, great products.
I've never visited Pete's, but hope to one day. I'm writing this as a customer from a different province in Canada (Ontario). I've been ordering a specific type of olives for about 2+ years now (Pete's is the only one in Canada that carries it!), and their customer service has been great. First, the fact that they go out of their way to ship it without any additional charge is amazing. You don't find a lot of companies willing to do this! Secondly, the customer service I've had with all of the employees have been fantastic. They are always friendly and willing to help. I would definitely recommend Pete's!
Great spot, though a bit expensive. The England corner is awesome and they stock a great selection of hot sauces.
I think Pete's has the best produce available in downtown Halifax. Also, lots of interesting treats, cheeses and condiments.
Fantastic produce. A great selection of cheeses. An incredible selection of imported foods, especially from the UK.
Great spot for ready to eat meals, however it can get quite pricey...
The quality of ingredients in Pete's is consistently good. The made to order section consists of sandwiches, soups, smoothies, salads, and rotating center hot plate station. The value for money is below average in Halifax but always a good meal. I use Pete's to give new comers a fresh lunch from a locally famous spot. The salad bar has 58+ options. The layout and randomly closed cash, subsequent line does not make Pete's a fast option despite their claims. The staff are terrific. A couple of sandwich makers cost them a lot of good will by refusing to put hot peppers on this and that etc. More seating is upstairs. There is entire grocery store attached.
Upmarket grocers selling wide variety of high quality goods. Fresh fruits, bakery products and snacks.
If you looking for specialty items this is the place to go. You pay little more but you get good quality products.
I called the Bedford location from out of province to request a gift basket for a family member. The person I spoke with was very patient and helpful, allowed me to request a custom assortment of items, and the price was very reasonable. Within one day's notice, the basket was ready and put together beautifully. I'm very pleased with the service.
Slightly pricey, but not that bad. Great place for local and crafty foods, plus your basics.
Nice spot. Wide variety of goods from differant spots across the globe. Produce looks fresh. I didn't see Pete. Expensive.
Best place for high end groceries in Halifax
Going downhill since Sobeys bought it. Produce people not as friendly nor as helpful. New parking is with minimum $50 spent, one hour of free parking, as opposed to two free hours with $20 spent, prior the takeover.
Good food, great atmosphere and seating area, but quite pricey.
Wide range of unique foods.
Four Stars as it has recently been bought by a new owner...will have to see what they do with the place.
One of the best grocery stores.... especially I will get most of the Indian groceries
Top place for shopping interesting grocery items. A unique shopping experience. Great bread rolls and deli
Large unique store with lots of selection. Produce quality has suffered since Sobeys bought the chain, but it's still a decent (if higher priced) place to get specialty products.
Good selections but cramped isles
Probably the best choice for some quality food Halifax.
Nice in-store bakery, super nice (and well-priced) herbs anx fruits. Things like jam and cheese are over-priced.
Best place to look for obscure ingredients and fancy food. Not where I'd recommend for everyday groceries (it's a bit pricy), but there's nothing better for that nice meal or fancy party.
Good selection, bad prices
It's a standard Pete's, with a good selection of vegetables, a very nice butcher, and a great deli.
A very nice place to find fresh vegetables, however, the prices are a little bit expensive
Nice grocery. Ok prices.
Great selection for hard to find foods.
Nice place with a great selection but its downtown location dictates a high price point on everything.
The selection at Pete's is amazing! One of the places I check out every time I visit Halifax. I always pick up some nice snacks to have later in the Hotel! Always clean as a whistle with friendly staff and great selection!
Love this store. Unique food choices and great lunch meals. All presented and prepared by friendly staff. Top choice for downtown Halifax.
Smoothies are good and original in flavor choices. The food/smoothie area can feel slow, especially when not well staffed. Sandwiches and soups are good too, and a welcome change from fast food.
Love the variety and general feel of the store.
You can get all kinds of fruits and veggies here.
Great place for fresh products
Great selection of products. I just wish there was more sugar-free or low carb products available. There are some but not a lot.
They pack up half the store at 7:30. I'm not the expert but there is clearly a missed opportunity for additional revenue highly inconvenient and fairly stupid. Simple concept, when you close at 8, pack up, not while customers are shopping especially during COVID-19, where you are clearly blocking aisles and making it difficult to social distance.
Great place to stop and grab a quick bite for lunch or pick up some takeout salads or sandwiches for supper. They have a large seating area upstairs for dining in. I find them a bit expensive but overall the food is healthy and fresh.
Love the variety of local and international foods.
If you wanna buy Indian/ Asian vegetables.. Then this is the right place. Especially curry leaves. Ask one of the sales persons, they will bring it from the store room.
Best organic vegetables
Produce is usually super excellent and fresh. They have lots of info about the food and sometimes some taste testers! They stock a lot of hard to find specialty items and lots of great local food.
I love this place. Tons of quality foods and ingredients, super helpful and knowledgeable staff that are willing to help with anything. You can almost always find what you're looking for without help, and they stock almost everything you could need. When it comes to meats and seafood you can always get things fresh, and none of it disappoints. The selection of foods in general is fantastic, and everything is quality and fresh.
One of my favorite spots to go for a fresh healthy smoothie!
The only place to buy certain speciality food items in Halifax, and the best place to find them all together! Great fresh food options for breakfast and lunch.
Things are pricey but there are a lot of healthy options (and pastries)
Exquisite shop filled with food, groceries, prepared meals, organic, vegan, or meats! Unique items sourced both locally and internationally!!! Give yourself time to stroll and view the phenomenal variety of items. You won't be disappointed!!
Good place to find items from other countries sometimes.
It's my first time here and I have to say food is great at reasonable price and they will give you sauce for free if you want it to have it with food!! It was rush at cashier so they can imply auto checkout or can hir me! ????
Very Expensive!!! Great vegan options to much cheese and also the suchi rice pockets are gross they don't have plant milk for coffee only at the gluten free place.
Good quality food but high price. Only place you can.get green chilli with good price
Excellent but difficult to find stuff.
If you are looking for a European Market here in Halifax, this place is for you. Much of the items they are actually imported from the UK. The also serve a lot of different types of produce. They have a lunch station serving really great salad, sandwiches and soups. The have a small gillato station and also a smoothie bar. In the Centre of the store they have a fudge station. Just imagine any types of fudge you want, they have it. Plus a small florist. In the back of the store they have an area for skin, hair and beauty products. Located conveniently off Spring Garden; Cora's, a photography shop, a sushi place, a hair dresser and a fine spirits store are all located in the same building. Parking is located in a below ground parking lot, free with ticket validation at Pete's.
Though a lot is expensive, their produce is cheaper than other stores and is much better quality!
Great food great service very unique. I love the local food idea. It's a great reason to support Pete's. Their smoothies, vegan foods and from what I hear the rest of the foods are delicious. I have been going there for a long time to eat and occasionally shop for produce. The exotic fruits are a splendid luxury.
Pete's is great! Love the hot sauce selection
Amazing sandwiches, and less pricy than subway too!
It feels like a fantasty land of fine foods. 10/10 my favourite grocery store
Apparently answering the phones is not in their job description.
I love Pete's! If you enjoy food (eating it, cooking it, or even just looking at it) stop by Pete's for a fantasic shopping experience.
Coming from the land of Whole Foods, Petes hits the mark and reminds me of the good old days of Whole Foods down south before they sold out to Amazon.
Only go for the unreal selection and fresh produce
Pretty decent selection of import and fine foods, greasy breads, cheese, meats and veg. Pricey though. And terrible selection. Of Thai ingredients. Sub par coconut milk.
Pete's is one the ecclectic downtown treasures that Halifax has SOOO many of!! Right smack in the middle of the city, you can go grocery shopping (surprising variety of things to tempt one, including specialty items nobody else has in the area: you never know what you might bump into!!) to your heart's content especially if you like FRESH produce, which is the heart and soul of the place. Seriously worthwhile if you want a unique and healthy downtown experience. WONDERFUL variety of cheeses and a ROCKING deli department. Staff is also great. FULL MARKS from me.
Wonderful selection of produce, including organic.
Just awesome.. extra fresh every thing
Great selection & quality products.
Best place to find that hard to find item. Of you crave European type grocery, then this is the place.
A decent local supermarket. Similar to a Whole Foods. Has a great selection of British foods like cookies.
Great place to get a some English food items. Really good selection of goods.
Great Downtown grocery with a very large selection of products. You can find pretty much anything you need here!
Got yams there, what a treat.
Novel little place has some good selection
Excellent in every way. Lots of healthy options.
I go here only when I have to. they do have a really good selection of things, but you're mostly paying double what you pay elsewhere for the exact same product. But they do have fancy overpriced paper bags so I guess that's something.
Gone downhill since Sobeys took over
Selection and service haven't slipped since the sale.
Good selection of humanely raised meats, any spice or sauce flavour you 're looking for. Prices aren't awful...especially based on location.
8.04 $/ 6.99 $ before tax for a spinach salad, 229 gms. Barely any cheese, cintainer insufficient amount of spinach. I had the same salad a year ago and it was much more well prepared. I do not recommend this item. Petes is expensive. Quality is usually better.
Great sandwich and awesome coffee
Lots of amazing, unique items not found anywhere else in Halifax!
Very good quality but expensive
Vegetable are always fresh and staffs are friendly but price are on little higher side..
Great variety of fresh made food, and awesome cheese selection
Used to be excellent, but it’s headed downhill. They still carry good quality groceries, but the variety has suffered, customer service has suffered and they simply are unable to bring in standard groceries. It’s a shame. Luckily, alternatives are beginning to emerge so they either up their game, or become another sobeys.
You're paying a much higher price, but the quality is there to justify it (for the most part). The location is good being just off of spring garden. The store is a bit cramped which makes it difficult to get around. The store is always clean, and the staff are very friendly. The selection of goods is the biggest appeal.
Good selection of imported foods, prices are a bit out of whack for what it's essentially am upscale Sobeys though.
Excellent quality products but very expensive
I little pricy but great variety of foods and the salad bar is lit.
Central location with a great selection of products across the board! Their produce is fresh, with organic options. I particularly love their health and beauty products section, bakery, as well as their fish and seafood options. You can also find all kinds of imported items that might be hard to find elsewhere, like St Viateur bagels from Montreal and lots of goodies from Britain! The list could go on forever. All in all, Pete’s isn’t considered inexpensive, but this place has a great selection of products and it’s definitely worth checking out. Ps. They also have a juice/smoothie bar as well as an eatery at the front of the store where you can purchase food and juices to stay or to go. All made fresh in house - a huge bonus!
Always such a good selection of mushrooms and veggies that are fresher than most grocery stores. Great lunch options, sushi is also made fresh everyday with a few vegan options too! (If you were wondering) also a huge selection of good cheeses, and I love that Pete’s supports local a lot too. Ciro’s mozzarella is the best. Can be a little pricy but I find you get what you pay for :)
While I normally Love Pete's it has gone down hill. Many of the orchids are dead in the plant section because they are not getting the care they need. Some of the fruit and vegetables are old and some even spoiled. In an up market supermarket this is unacceptable. To make way for greater volume of customers they added a checkout leaving only one for wheelchair access and while you might think this is good they even have one it narrows my choices like today where a man held it up for over 15 minutes plus, and I had to back track to leave the store the way I entered, through the plant section. I was then unable to get food from the sandwich and sushi section as I could no longer get in that part. Pete's is doing well from all accounts but today I felt humiliated and had to pay for my groceries and then turn around and go through the store to leave. I truly felt I deserve better and other customers also commented as I tried to find an alternative way out.
Amazing bean rice wrap love it, Nicely lade out store, nice location off Spring Garden road. Nice place with open view window to look out as you sit in and eat.
Pretty popular spot, not a cheap place to get groceries by any means. The produce is about as good as anywhere else but is more expensive. The upside to this place is they have really good quality proteins and hard to find ingredients. Usually very busy and the store can be cramped as a result
V.Knowledgeable staff and the best deli in town.fresh produce and the best selection. It may cost you but it really is worth it if you are seeking a rarer item or something too high brow for other local grocers.Manchego cheese for instance.
High prices but lots of near foreign food
Got a taste of what Pete had to offer at Luckett vineyard and had to check out Fine Foods and now will be shopping here whenever Im in town!
This is a good place for premium imported and organic foods. Locally-sourced produce, fresh made sandwiches and even homemade fudge await.
Some real upscale products and good quality ones but lacks basic items and can be fairly pricey. It is a missed opportunity considering the lack of grocery stores in the vicinity
High quality food. A little bit expensive.
We go for the jumbo pickles. Lots of variety of foods. Nice cashier and person working the deli.
Great place! Great food in Halifax, finally! I have only two nitpicks/frustrations: (1) there is no way to tell how many visits are left on your reward card (every tenth trip gets 10% off) without keeping track yourself or buying something, and (2) they _still_ don't sell cream—every single "cream" they sell contains additives: carrageenan, polysorbate 80, ... WHY NO CREAM?!?
Great selection of international goods.
It's Pete's bud! You know what it is, kind of over priced, high end, has anything you need and has a bomb lunch counter. Pete is an awesome business person and this place reflects it.
Huge variety of fruits, veggies n small eatout place compliments the grocery buying experience. Great location.
Pete's has some great produce and some hard to find items but often the prices are significantly higher than other places.
good quality products, you can find whatever you want
Very nice supermarket, reminds me of Wholefoods Market.
Love love love the produce here, and the cheese section is amazing. Pete's also carries a lot of hard-to-find imports. The prices on these are a little higher than I like, but it can be worth it if you don't have the time to search for those items elsewhere.
Lovely grocery store with great produce and a a very eclectic, well sourced selection of produce, and grocery items. Smells wonderful inside.
So many food items at every nook and corner. Well staffed. Eatery upstairs and downstairs.
Great place with wide selection of cheese, world candy and drinks.
My favourite grocery store in Halifax. Great selection of fresh and pre-prepared foods.
Very nice place to buy groceries love the store display and quality of food just great
very flesh food, but price is ????
Great place to go for lunch. Many ready-made dishes to choose from - salads, pastas, samosas, fatayas, sandwiches, etc. Although, I was disappointed that I wasn't able to find a veggie only sandwich.. they all had some kind of meat. Huge wall of bottled/canned drink choices as well. I chose a bean and rice burrito and it was great! My grandmother and I each had lunch and a drink and it totalled to $13. Excellent food and fairly priced!
Changed a lot since sobeys bought them
amazing food, and great selection of cheeses. Even has a british section with british treats and goodies!
Stuff you cannpt find anywhere else in the city.
So friendly and decent priced smooties
Many exotic fruits and vegetables, you can always find that special something to add a little extra to whatever you're preparing.
The only place where I get my curry leaves , year-round. ????
Prices are now competitive and they offer a wonderful selection of local and exotic foods that are hard to find elsewhere.
I don't like writing negative reviews, but the amount of mislabeled or mispriced products at Pete's needs to be addressed and the managers seem unapologetic. The shelves are a mess and more than a few times I've had to leave an item at the register after it scanned at a higher price than it said on the shelf (most often because they were in the wrong place). Beyond that, things like finding blemishes hidden under produce stickers, largely inflated prices on items like cereal, and having a large sign saying made in the Maritimes with Kettle brand chips under it (which are made in Salem, Oregon) are making me want to take my business elsewhere.
Kosa and English thick creams are always among my shopping list from Pete’s. love spring garden branch as it tend to have exotic products from Europe and specifically UK. Love their red bus stand to symbolize London which I find very cute. I think it is full of UK biscuits and jam. You can find fresh aloe Vera leafs which is really good for skin and hair if you don’t want to eat or drink.
Petes is always good
My favorite place to shop for everything local in Bedford!
Anchored espresso, Montreal style bagels and top shelf sashimi all in one place. Take my money!
Good selection of British foods.
Always fresh fruits and vegetables
High quality boutique grocery store, very friendly staff, but a medium container of pasta salad cost over $10
Yesterday went waited over 5min.for service.lots patients at meat department .left.went today.nobody in site.
Pricy, good quality.
High quality, and got stuff that's hard to find elsewhere. Also there deli has by far the best of any super market and their hot sauce selection is on point
Great place to shop many different choices of great food.
Got a sandwich, very good. Second visit, sandwich had too much fat for me, threw more away. The Montreal.
Nice quality of ingredients. Not a lot of bang for your buck. Wouldn't do a big grocery shop here, it's more just for those speciality items you can't find anywhere else.
The Smoked Meat sandwich was delicious
I enjoy shopping at Pete's. Products that are really tough to find elsewhere and good quality.
Great unique to the city food options. Large selection of cheese, chocolate, olives, fruits and local bread and pastry.
Fresh made food daily great selection
If I was from Halifax I would totally do my shopping here. Great selection, nice set up and friendly helpful staff.
Good selection, great premade foods and always fresh produce. Slightly more expensive than other grocery stores.
So much good food!!!
Customer service here is terrible
Great selection, unique products, friendly staff . A bit pricey.
Gluten-free flour not in stock
We love Pete's deli.So many choices of great food for lunch and really affordable.
Amazing place... mostly everything there for groceries and produce....
You can get regular and unique grocery items, coffee, smoothie, salad bar, soups and other items to go. A lot of good healthy options. Also there's a little flower and gift shop at the entrance.
I am in the store 2 - 4X/week. Generally I am pleased with everything. What makes me angry though is when I order a salad and there is no raisin or cranberry choice among the many selections and am told "they are out of them at the moment". Pete's is never OUT OF raisins or cranberries. Go get some from the shelves to satisfy a good customer's requests.
I was in Canso on business . The staff at the local Coop are always friendly and helpful. It's a good place to shop.
Fun little grocer. Great selection of just about anything you could think of from frogs legs to international chocolates. Prices are not generally great, however there is not much selection downtown Halifax either.
For foreigners who found home in Canada it was and is a pleasant nostalgic experience. The friendly staff go out of their way to satisfy customers' taste. Wishing local and Canadian products, such as a wild meat, quail eggs, French Acadian pies, to be equally showcased as imported once.
Always the best quality.
Goid foods..love the salad bar
I had a great salad for lunch here. Out of this world!
Their smoothies are wonderful.
This place somehow managed to convince people that visiting a European grocery store in downtown Halifax justifies paying almost 3x as much for everyday supplies. Sure they have a salad bar, they have a deli, they even have a fudge station! But it's all way too expensive. Just go down to Sobeys on Queen St. It's like 5 minutes away.
Okay first of all let me say that I usually get my Chicken Caesar Wrap here nearly everyday with a chocolate milk and it's fantastic - second best in the city, in my opinion. HOWEVER, this is probably the fifth time I have gotten a certain employee at the deli and...I'm sorry, she's probably a great person but they are the crappiest wraps EVER and I mean...NOT EDIBLE! Not only is the wrap ALWAYS ripped and its cold (I don't know how this is managed when it comes right off the grill) but it's also HALF the size I usually get and it tastes different like she puts the wrong dressing on... Next time that I go in there and see that she is working, I will turn right around and walk out the door!!! Really not impressed! ***UPDATE - I was so upset that after a couple of bites I threw out the rest of my lunch and ended up calling the deli manager, Doug. He was fantastic and totally understood. He also gave me a complimentary lunch!
Fresh
Check your receipts!! The mid-lane cashier who worked on Saturday morning charged my spinach as basils... They don't even look alike! The spinach was in a bundle. And it's NOT the first time he made this mistake. He charged my local broccoli as broccoli last time. Although It's only $1 difference, I feel cheated. I've always shopped at Pete's and trusted its cashier, guess I should've been more careful myself.
Great place to buy groceries
Long wait for a smoothie but it was very yummy.
I miss this place...you don't know how great it is, til you leave Halifax and start missing it!
Every beat item you can't find anywhere else. Great helpful staff
Really good food store in the centre of Halifax. Plenty of choice from butchery to bakery. Open 7 days.
Lots of great foods to be found! Will be back!
Amazing place to shop.
Always fresh and delicious food.
Pete's salads and sandwiches are always fresh and custom made. And there is always treasures to find in the grocery area. Butcher in Bedford that I have used is not that knowledgeable, maybe isn't a butcher but he did say he was in charge
Very good price on health product
A little pricey, but they had a wide variety of local produce such as vegetables and cheeses
Great place to have lunch many different options and choices.
A shopping nirvana in Halifax (and Bedford)! When you want a boost in your kitchen's creativity and recommendations from excellent staff, Pete's will deliver. Great selection of top quality comestibles, welcoming atmosphere by very helpful staff.
Big range of healthy food, either ready to eat or take home! It is a must for someone who eats healthy visiting Halifax!
Produce looked very nice and they had such a variety. If I lived locally I'd come here to buy groceries regularly
A great place for hard-to-find organic meats/fruits/vegetables and I also love to pick up some baking when I'm here.
Huge selection of great food, you need to drop in!
There is a great selection of products. They are things you won't be able to find at the larger supermarkets. The boutique nature makes it more expensive. They have a gluten free eatery on the second floor. I find the hours frustrating, but the food is excellent. After hours they have some of it packaged for sale down by the meals for order counter in the grocery store portion of the store. There is a specialty European treat section in the back of the store. You might even run into Sidney Crosby there!
Love this place! Always buy more than I intend to. Great staff and products.
I like the variety of foods, many of which are healthy or organic. Decent prices on most items. Nice quality of produce.
Very good selection and quality. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
Great grocery store in the heart of the downtown. Cafeteria is an awesome lunch spot!
Fancy donuts only $1 each. You must try one ????
Went to the salad section, I’m in a wheelchair and couldn’t see any of the toppings. The worker was very unhelpful and didn’t add a topping I asked for.
Try the salad bar
Very nice wholesome grocery store. Lots of health foods and some delicious salads and hot foods. (the samosas are amazing) The only downside is that, like all health food stores, things can be a little bit expensive.
Great fruit and vegetables. All fresh mostly local in season. Best in Halifax
The cheese selection is the absolute best.
Good products and convenient but so expensive
Lots of new fruit and vegetables and the food looks good to
a great place for vegans, a wide selection of foods, a bit pricy tho but totally worth it for unique items.
I was really suprised with the number of different products (some of which I've only ever seen at Pete's). The lunch counter options are also great and very fairly priced!
My co-worker and I visit Pete's almost everyday for lunch. The food selection is amazing. We mainly get served at the Deli Bar by Sara and another girl with dark hair (missed her name) and they are always so helpful and speedy. In fact, we were in today and they were helping us. :) The rest of the staff are so friendly and always provide excellent service.
One of the only places that I've found in Halifax that has a broader range of ingredients and specialty-ish ingredients. That's been a real problem for me so far in the city.
Amazing selection of foods (some that you didn't even know you wanted).
Great and patient staff
Good food that may not be found else where but you definitely pay the price for it.
More expensive than other grocery stores but great quality.
Great place for fruit ect.
Good selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. Fairly good selection of vegetarian and vegan options.
My Blueberries were moldy, and the Montreal smoked meat sandwich that was on sale wasn't worth the price
Excellent, as always!
Excellent store, friendly staff
Very good selection of items and also stuff that you wouldn't normally see in other grocery stores. Always clean and friendly staff. Will go back again.
A superstore specialising in agriculture, dairy, meat and sea foods. A vast variety of vegetables, fruits, pulses, grains, spices not sold at other outlets can be found here. However what hinders a purchase decision is the price. Besides vegetables and fruits may not always be fresh. Environmentally friendly shopping bags are readily available. However one sincerely wishes that prices are more competitive so that one doesn't hesitate on repeat visits.
Reminds me of a mini-Whole Foods Market.
An amazing garden and green oasis in the middle of Halifax. Great place for a family outing.
The Pete's of yester year is no more, the produce is no longer fresh, I bought a bag of cherries which contained many cherries at the bottom of the bag which were rotten. In general the selection has lost allot of its international favor and is extremely high priced to say the least, the fun shopping outing to Pete's have gone, rather save your money and shop at Sobeys
Awesome, must visit if you're a foodie!
Friendly staff, fresh foods, pre made dinners are a bonus there!
Great fresh produce
I like their customer service. We had bought a musk melon earlier which was rotten when we cut it and had to throw away. On our next visit, I asked whether they take returns for such things, and the cashier said they do. And without us asking for it, he waived charge for the musk melon we bought during this visit. This is really appreciated! The only thing I found a bit inconvenient is - things are a bit pricey. But that's understandable given the excellent quality.
Excellent grocery store if you are more interested in quality and price. Good selection, unusual foods, and appealing ambience.
Expensive. But they have a big selection of British food!
Love the selection of different groceries. Ready to go meals good. My made to order sandwich was a bit on the dry side but that is not the norm.
Pretty good selection, but pricey
Gone downhill since Pete's was sold
Pete's is expensive but does offer a great selection of speciality foods.
Best food Provider in town.
Love this place. High quality foods
Well-stocked, but snooty and expensive
Variety of good fruits and vegetables are available
Nice store, great variety
Fresh produce, with wide variety of specialty items that you can't find in other stores. An amazing British food section, I have to say British chocolate trumps North American chocolate. The store also doubles as a food cafe, with wonderful salads, sandwiches and fresh soups with quality ingredients.
Expensive but great selection of groceries and good lunch options.
Best quality grocery in town. They have great quality food for a quick bite as well. Breakfast combo and healthy shakes are also available.
Really good produce at fairly reasonable prices. I find their store made food is quite expensive and not very flavourful but they do have a really nice selection of cheese. I don't shop here for big grocery orders but its super convenient if I want to grab some fresh veggies while I'm on my lunch break.
Unique place to shop with a good selection of imported foods and ingredients that can be hard to find in Halifax. Takeaway sandwiches/meals are some of the best quick bites you can get downtown. Only small complaint is that even basics can be a little pricey. The cost can be fine with with the aforementioned exotic fare, though don't go here if you just want a few basics that don't set you back more than usual.
Always find something yummy. Good quality food.
Overpriced and low quality...what happened Pete?
Excellent food and service in the gluten free eatery!!!!
Was there last week got a couple of coffee pods and some no sugar tart shells saw some other items that I will be back for
Always great to visit!
Always fresh. Staff is always kind, friendly and ready to help.
The clerk at the Cooked food area was very inefficient. Poor service.
Excellent food and salad bar but long serving time. Also the groceries trend on the expensive side
Good place for gorcery shopping overall. Very different feel to the big box stores. Prices are mostly comperable sometimes a bit higher.
Amazing selection of foods and knowledgeable friendly staff
I have only gone here for the buffet spread. The jalapeno shrimp was really good and so was the coffee milkshake. Only complaint was the ginger beef which came to 11 dollars and was not the best. You could get way better for less at any restaurant that serves ginger beef.
Used to amazing. But ever since Sobeys bought it, most produce is from Mexico instead of Canada. Not as unique as it used to be. It's also dirtier.... The Sobeys effect!
Great independent grocer with international and local offerings. Excellent quality.
