Pretty on the outside, dense on the inside...The (43$) chocolate mocha cake was not liked by our family. We also found the frosting tasted like a whipped oil product. We will choose to support other local bakeries in the future who better understand the needs of their clients.

***Cupcake review*** Service is amazing, atmosphere cozy, cupcakes not bad, prices are a bit high ($4-$4.5 each cupcake) Tried the following: Red Velvet -- very good Salted caramel -- good Tiramisu (GF) -- ok As some reviewed mentioned the cupcakes are a little denser than other places. The tiramisu was very dense, but when they found out that I found it dense/dry they replaced it RIGHT AWAY...that was very nice of them! There are limited seats inside so it's best to take your order to go. I'd like to try their cakes because they looked really good. I'll update my review once I do.

Meh. I went for cupcakes. They weren't my style. More along the lines of moist and heavy, and while moist is good, heavy is not what I want in a cupcake. Also the icing was kind of oily, I guess because it's a vegan recipe, not much they can do about that I guess. The shop girl was brilliantly friendly though, so that was nice.

I have been coming to Thimble Cakes for a long time and it has never disappointed me. I have severe food allergies so it’s great to have a local business that caters to this market niche. Such a lovely bakery! The seating area is beautiful and there are plenty of outdoor seating as well. I bought 4 cupcakes, but only one was for me to eat (lol). It was the lavender honey cupcake and it was so good! The cake is very indulging, and the overall flavour was perfect. Not very sweet but fragrant. There are so many varieties and even a discount section for cupcakes that were served yesterday (40% off) and the ‘ugly ducklings’. The cupcakes start from 3.99 and the highest are 4.50 which is still great. Lovely staff and a lovely spot. Highly recommend this to anyone!

Sometimes I think, "why didn't I go here sooner?" because Thimblecakes has the. best. vegan. cupcakes in town. When we were looking for a bakery to make our wedding cake I saw the photos of their work online and was immediately keen to check them out. After our tasting we booked them right then and there because the vegan cupcakes were so tasty I knew they would be able to make our guests happy. They were quick to answer questions and easy to work with. I can't imagine buying cupcakes anywhere else now!

I adore Thimblecakes. Every time I'm in Ottawa, I get their cupcakes. This week, I ordered an allergy friendly cake for my mom's birthday. The whole process was so easy. I ordered online and someone called me within 3 minutes to confirm the message for the cake topper. The cake was so delicious, and everyone raved over the icing. We had a couple of friends attend and they had no idea it was egg and dairy free. They asked for details on where to get it. Thimblecakes even called me the day of to let me know that there was construction! Amazing customer service and phenomenonal desserts.

I love their rose vanilla cake with a passion. I get it every year. Keep in mind that it is dense and chewy, which I love. It won't be everyone cup of tea though (my mother really didn't like it, which was unfortunate because I bought her the rose vanilla cake I loved so much for her birthday one year). I really like to eat this cake frozen as well, especially the buttercream (but I wouldn't recommend others try that). Their coconut milk ice cream sammich is also super delicious. I'm not in the city anymore and I miss the unique cake texture and flavour of their rose vanilla cake a lot.

A great place to get vegan cakes, cupcakes and icecream. Situated conveniently on the Bank Street. It's surrounded by many other businesses. They even have options for people with nut allergies. And specifically asked me if there are any other ingredients that I may be allergic too. The staff was also quite helpful. A great bakery to visit if you are a vegan/vegetarian or someone with food allergies.

You wouldn’t think it would be hard to order a wedding cake from a bakery. Especially when you see good reviews on google. It seems like there is only one person that has the knowledge of taking cake orders and it’s frustrating when the bakery won’t tell you when they’ll call you back. No use emailing them because they will say to call to place an order. I won’t be ordering my wedding cake there.

Where to start! I've been a loyal customer for 5 years. I am no longer vegan but I still go to Thimble Cakes regularly. I get all birthday and special occasion cakes from here. The owner Wendy is really nice. The designer Alexis is a god send. She's fantastic!!!! I have friends who got their wedding cake here and are so happy. I plan to get mine here. The food is so clean and lightweight compared to other places and free of all those bad ingrediants. I love thimble cakes. It's a huge part of what makes Ottawa my community and home. There are seasonal features that are always fresh and new and exciting. It's lovely. Photos don't do it justice. Absolutely go to Thimble cakes!!!!!!!

The cakes are great. Customer service is hit and miss. Not the place to go for consistency. With a constantly changing menu, don’t go back there a few months later expecting to get that same cake you had for your friends birthday. They won’t even remember what was on the menu two months ago. The prices could also be a little better.

I am a regular at thimble because of all my allergies. I love the variety of vegan cupcakes and the gluten-free options are also super. The bakers really do it so you can't even tell it's gluten-free! Customer serivce is also great,Im in there usually friday or saturday and I usually get served by the taller girl with the long blonde pony tail. she is very nice and always makes me feel right at home and remembers me from previous times in the shop, which I really appreciate. Let me tell you, I visited many bakeries to find the best gluten free cupcakes and this is the place that won out! Marvellous cakes, all nut-free which made myself and my wedding guests very happy. We had a 3-layer cake with lemon and black forest layers and a delicious buttercream, with a great design and edible orchid flowers, all for a price lower than what we budgeted, and delivery to our venue. Great cakes/cupcakes but we had a really bad experience ordering a wedding cake. They contacted us very close to the wedding and said they couldn’t do the design they had originally agreed to, so we ended up with a plain white cake. And they were impossible to get ahold of for the payment and to work out details. You can only talk to the baker about wedding cakes from 10-3 and not the people behind the counter. The phone is always busy during those times. So it took weeks to get ahold of them, despite them leaving messages that they needed to hear from us. It was super frustrating and the end product was tasty but not what we expected aesthetically for the price.

Went on a hunt for the best red velvet cupcake in Ottawa. A reddit post reccomended ThimbleCakes. What a great reccomendation it was! For six cupcakes theres no tax and thr price is under 25. The cupcakes itself are nice dense/moist cakes with great frosting. Red velvet is delightful. The cookie dough ones frosting is little grainy and great nontheless.

I purchased a cake for my sons birthday celebration, while it looked nice, the cake itself was not good. The cake layers were too thick in consistency and were overcooked. The tops were hard and the flavor was lacking, a lot. (For a chocolate cake, I expect to actually taste chocolate, not just eggs and flour). Would have made our own cake but ran out of time and figured with such good reviews that we would give it a try. Never again. I will stick to making my own cakes at home. Overpriced, no flavor and overcooked. Will give 2 stars for it being well decorated.

As someone with gluten allergy it has been very hard to find a cake that tastes great. Well let me tell you Thimblecakes exceeded all my expectations. We booked with ThimbleCakes for our Sept 25th wedding and we were not disappointed! We needed a cake that was peanut-free (my husband is highly allergic), and we knew we could trust ThimbleCakes. The booking process was super easy, and we loved that we got to try samples before we ordered! We ordered a small tiered cake as well as cupcakes of the same flavour so our guests could easily grab a taste throughout the evening. I must say the cakes are delicious we recently purchased a wedding cake and all our guest were pleased with the taste. However, the customer service is terrible and thankfully nobody knew the headache we went through just to order a cake. The first time I booked an appointment for a consultation we received an appointment and on the day of I called to see if I could come in earlier. Had I not called I would have never been notified that the associate that takes bridal cakes called in sick. Wait it gets even better they reschedule for a week later and everything is going well until another couple arrive at the exact time to also order a wedding cake. They also had received an appointment for the exact same day and time. They are highly unorganized establishment but the cake tasted amazing, design did not turn out as I had hoped.

I've been a loyal customer of Thimblecakes for close to a decade. They have delicious cupcakes, cakes, and desserts to fit a wide range of diets (e.g. nutfree, gluten-free, vegan). However, I can only rate them 3 stars because of persistent poor customer service and lack of attention to detail. For example, in the image below, I ordered 24 mini cupcakes in 6 different flavours. It would have been nice if each row of 4 were a different flavour (4 rows x 6 flavours). This was a gift and presentation is important! Instead, they jumbled the cupcakes randomly. It's small things like these over the years that make me hesitant to buy Thimblecakes as a gift. I ordered a cake for my birthday, March 8th. Shortly after placing the order, I had a missed call from them. I called back within 2 minutes and was just told "my manager was just calling to confirm your order." Okay? On March 7th, I received a phone call saying "We are closing in 15 minutes. Are you coming to pick up your cake?" I said no, I ordered it for March 8th. I was told that they were closed March 8th and that there was a note that a March 7th pickup was fine with me. Such a conversation never happened. I had to drop what I was doing and hop in an Uber to be there on time. What should have been a $27 cake cost me $52. Speaking to the lack of attention to detail, the box was stained from something that was not my cake. In short, if you're on Bank and looking for a yummy dessert, this is a great place! But if you are shopping for a gift, special occasion, or if presentation is important to you, try Little Jo Berry's instead.

My son’s birthday party was scheduled at 4:30 since they say we will deliver between 10-4:00. They never showed up I called to ask and they said oh sorry we will deliver it tomorrow. I requested a refund for a mistake that was done by the store and the I was told we will discuss with the manager tomorrow.right now I’m left with a 6 year old crying his eyes out because the chocolate cake he chose online is not coming!!! Went here based on the extra-ordinary reviews given by people. Unfortunately, the cupcakes did not live up to the hype. I ordered three cup-cakes -vanilla -banna macchiato -Honey lavendar. Shared it with my colleagues and they too weren't impressed. Especially, since the price of one cupcake is about $3.50, I expected better. Maybe for someone who doesn't eat eggs, these are great. However, compared to other cupcakes on the market, these are not fluffy, they stick to the paper and the taste is just meh. Will not be coming back here. The only thing that was great about the visit was the espresso I ordered. Pretty good :)

I once googled gluten-free desserts expecting to find nothing (or at least nothing worth visiting) for birthday treats for a friend, but was I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and taste of their different options the service and the very thoughtfully decorated shop itself! I've been going back for years, will continue to go back and will recommend ThimbleCakes whenever I can!

I bought a valentine's day cake from here which looked beautiful. However, the flavor was bland, and the icing tasted like it was made with vegetable shortening. This is good if you are vegan, but nowhere near as tasty as buttercream icing, which is pretty standard for decent cakes. The cake was not advertised as vegan, so I was pretty disappointed.

Our vegan wedding cake was very good. Guests could not tell it was vegan (ours was not GF). It was moist and perfect level of sweetness. Icing was light and matched the cake perfectly. I usually don’t like cakes but this was good. We got a two tiered cake for 30 people and fed everyone a large slice but had enough left to take home 3/4 of the bottom tier. We had chosen double chocolate from their complimentary sample boxes of cupcakes. The actually cake was WAY better than the sample box. I worked with Alexi (sp?) on the cake and she’s very nice to work with. Their workers at the desk are also very nice. I came back to re-order this cake before my husbands bday so I thought I would review this.

I was extremely happy with the service I received today, when I called in for information concerning dairy products. They advised me that 95% of the store was vegan and they took the time to ensure there was no cross contamination. I told the lady I would be in about an hour with my son who is anaphylactic to dairy. They took it upon themselves to remove the only 2 cupcakes that contained dairy prior to our arrival. They told us all the treats on the counter were in fact all vegan as was all the ice creams. We did purchase there 12 mini cupcakes and a couple other treats so that he could taste all the flavors. Unfortunately another example that "Vegan" doesn't mean healthy or ethical and that some companies use this vegan "trend" to sale and not on principle (even if they say so, see below). Place looked nice, went in to get something for my GF, asked for their ingredient list and notice the low quality ingredients including PALM OIL in pretty much everything. Also, I was very disappointed when I read the below (see below) statement on their website... Says a lot about a company. I would strongly suggest going somewhere else and asking for the ingredients to really know what you're buying and encouraging! The staff was suuuuper nice and helpful picking out a gelato flavor. Unfortunately, what was described as “a little sugar” was sickeningly sticky sweet. All I could taste was straight sugar. Excess sugar is a known source of inflammation, so when someone says “small amount”, I want that to be accurate. I ended up tossing it out after a few bites. Maybe we got a bad batch? I love this place for birthday treats! I don’t like to buy/make cakes because I don’t want leftover sweets in my fridge, so the cupcakes are the perfect size. They are beautiful and delicious. I always recommend Thimble Cakes to people looking for gluten free options because they have a huge selection. As an aside - I’d love to see additional nutritional information available on the website. I am Type 1 diabetic and can eat sweets once in a while - but I need to know (or at least have an estimate of) the carb count.

Vegan ice cream heaven! Probably the most delicious vegan ice cream I've ever had. Correction, the most delicious ice cream I've ever had period. It was hard to choose a flavour since they all tasted and looked so, so good. As the name suggests, they also have a large variety of beautifully decorated cakes, cupcakes, cookies and more. Thimble Cakes makes some really incredible ice cream, and their ice cream sandwiches are probably the best that I've tried in Ottawa! A nicely quiet shop on a noisy bustling street. The ice cream and cupcakes are tasty and can be enjoyed by everyone who are not vegan or celiac. Cupcakes are a standard price for a boutique pastry shop. The disappointment for me was that the price for ice cream was expensive. The vanilla rose cake was my first ever order here! The cake was left by the door without any notification or call. We checked the cake and it had moved around and made a mess, so the delivery wasn’t good. The cake itself looks very pretty and well packaged, however it’s way too sweet because of the jam. It is very dry. My guests didn’t like the cake at all and I couldn’t finish it. Overall, if you’re looking for a small cake and want something pretty for pictures I highly recommend this cake. But if you’re looking for quality cake or don’t like super sweet cakes then you’re going to be disappointed.

They need to honour their posted hours. The website says they close at 6 pm on Sundays, braved the cold and got there at 5:30 and the doors were locked. The workers saw us and didn't bother to aknowledge us or explain themselves. Not impressed.
