Very rude and disrespectful owner. I went there to inquire information as I was planning to order a customized cake. First, when i entered, i was the only customer in the shop and she didnt even greet me. I was looking at the cakes on display and felt so uncomfortable as she stood behind the counter, staring at my every move and not even offering her help. After 5 minutes, another customer entered the shop and the owner greeted her right away asking if she needed help. After helping that customer who actually came to pick up her order and left, she finally decided to ask if i needed help. I only started asking the order procedures for my specific cake and that's when she cut me off and told me that I would need to send what i want by email "AT LEAST 4 weeks ahead" handing me the business card with the email address written on it. It was my 1st and last time I would ever waste my time going to such place.

1) the place looks nice and clean. Great! 2) the staff, who appears to be the owner doesn't have a very welcoming vibe to her. She's got this "I'm too busy to be nice" feel to her. Must be just her nature and doesn't actually mean anything by it. I dunno been there twice and got the same vibe. 3) the cake looked very nice but was rather DRY.

Was going to buy a pie at Three Tarts on Wellington, but saw that it had moved to Bank and Gladstone, so asked at Saslove's accross the street if they knew a place nearby where I could buy a good pie or cake. They told me they had as good -- if not better -- pie as Three Tarts, "All-butter", etc. OK, I bought a cherry pie. I was embarrassed when serving it at my guests. It's certainly not all-butter crust, I know what butter tastes like. Pie filling may as well been the canned one from the grocery store. It was really like a Loblaws or Farm Boy pie, not like a quality baked good from a real pastry shop (which you'll find much more easily in Montreal). Cake shop is a throwback to the 70's. Come on!

Not complying with Ontario Tax code, charging full tax even when buying 6 or more items. Owner/manageress refused to even discuss the matter. Emails went unanswered. Product is decent, but customer service is horrible. Will never go back.

I love my red velvet moist and cheesy. I didn’t even taste any cheese. It was more of a butter icing finishing than cheese as described on the page. The texture of the cake was hard.

I've ordered cakes from here a few times. This time we got a marble 1/2 sheet cake with vanilla icing. My daughter is obsessed with horses, and the cake was perfect! I had two children attend the party with severe nut, peanut, sesame and sunflower allergies, all of which were accommodated. This gave peace of mind to everyone involved! Thank you!

Any time we need a beautiful yummy cake, it's a no brainer for us, we love this Cake Shop! I live outside of town and have no problem driving the 45+ minutes to pick up from here! Very tasty, very beautiful and I would recommend The Cake Shop to anyone anyday.

Great quality cakes with great service. The decor got the place is fantastic. You will probably find whatever you're looking for at this shop. As an added bonus the cakes there are nut free so don't worry about the cake when you bring it to a kids party. They also have vegan options.

The presentation of the cake was artistically done well, but the cake itself was a big disappoint. The ‘Black Magic ‘ Cake was advertised to be a moist chocolate cake. It was maybe moist by the icing, but was dry for a supposed moist cake. The fudge icing was a generic frosting that you could probably buy at store. This was not a magical experience.

I tried calling for a week everyday. Never picked up. We were planning to order 10 cakes for an event for today. Do not ever plan on this place for your cake. We are getting cakes from another location. Was really looking forward to their berry shortcakes for my birthday event. Very disappointing. Going here was a magical experience. I was freaking out over the cakes, donuts, cupcakes, cake bombs, sundaes.... I feel bad for the guy working there as he had to endure a lot of gasping and high-pitched noises. I'm sorry! Lol. We came away with some tasty treats. Including this sexy Rollo cake for a birthday. I wish you could smell it. This photo alone makes me so happy.

I can't speak to the cakes, but the donuts and mini cheesecakes were fantastic! As was a caramel covered shortbread dipped in chocolate. My kids thought the gourmet cupcakes were OK, but I think the filling surprised them. The nut free facility is very important to us so that's a plus. We had friendly service and we thought prices were fair. We even froze our leftover birthday donuts and broke them out a while later. Just as good once thawed! Thanks Cake Shop.

Bought a cake for my son's group at daycare for his birthday since it is guaranteed peanut and nut free. They even put a sticker on the box saying it is. The cake was good. It is a bit pricey but not by much when compared to the same kind of cake in a grocery store.

Owner at the Cake Shop was nice, although i had to beg a little for attention to have my wedding cake done by them- I went to them because I have had a small piece of birthday cake from them and thought it was ok. The price was ok but that was about it. The cake truly had no flavor to it and the "butter icing" was the worst I've ever tasted . I had a formal cake to cut - which had fondon on it with their " butter icing" under it, and two slab cakes. The icing was foamy and very light, a film stuck to the roof of my mouth, I much prefer real butter icing which was what i thought i was getting or betty crocker either would have done. I was very dissatisfied with the "flavors in the middle" the raspberry cake filling turned out to be more" butter icing" with no taste and the second slab cake had caramel filling "butter icing" with no taste. I thought I was getting real raspberries /raspberry jam in the middle and real layer of gooey caramel on the chocolate cake. I really wish I had gone with a different company. The Icing was gross and the sugar flowers that were on my cutting cake were very very small instead of larger. We threw out a lot of the cake. Not impressed.

Oh My god their cakes are just fabulous.. They are so well done for their price. The bakers here are artists.. I have had several of their cakes and they have never let me down in their quality and taste. I will surely recommend ordering from them. They are bit on expensive side... so I would order a for a great occasions. Similar size cake you would get somewhere else may be bit cheaper but the quality and taste you will not get anywhere else.

I ordered one of the petite cakes from the Cake Shop. I had asked for marble cake with vanilla filling. What I got was inch thick Vanilla icing in between cake layers. I basically paid $42 for a tiny cake consisting of more icing than actual cake. I love your designs Cake Shop, I love that you are a nut free bakery but this is making reluctant to want go back, especially since my original online order was lost and I had to call in to make sure you got it.

What a fantastic cake shop in Ottawa. I was browsing on doordash and stumbled upon this place. I decided to ditch doordash and go check it out for myself. Why give money to a service and take from the bakery when I can go on a quick 15 minute drive right? To my dismay when I showed up I saw you had to order in advance - I was disappointed when a very nice woman came to the door and took my order at the front door. The woman was so nice, I was with my little girl and she gave her a little treat before we left. Truly great service. The cake - I got kitty kat was fantastic. Very moist and has just the right amount of kit kat. Can't wait to try another cake in the future!

The store was beautiful and clean, and the staff were friendly and professional. The cake replicated exactly the way it was on the website and came properly packaged so that it was not prone to damage during transportation. They can make some awesome looking cakes. A few years ago I ordered the infamous Poutine Cake for my son's birthday. It was a huge success, and the kids absolutely loved it. We recently ordered it again to bring to a gathering. I was quite disappointed. It looked fabulous, so A+ for style, however, sadly the cake was rather dry. It should taste as good as it looks...for that price. Very friendly staff. Helpful. Appears to be quite clean in the bakery area. As you can see from the photo there is not much filling inside of the cupcakes that are priced at minimum $3.50 a piece. I am torn between 3 and 4 stars... we'll try them again a few months and see. #localguide

Their cakes are so so so delicious. I'm giving 4/5 stars as I find the staff or manager is not accommodating for having specific requests even if they are in advance, and they won't hold aside a cake for you if you call. Thankfully there are many delicious options.

Wonderful! Great! Loved it! Lets start with the amazing customer service. I spoke to Nadine to get some cupcakes for a birthday party and she was courteous, polite, and friendly. It was one of the most pleasurable conversations on the phone for a cake order. That aside, The Cake Shop went above and beyond to fulfill some special requests. As for the cupcakes, they looked amazing and they tasted great. I bought the minion ones and they were completely adorable. I highly recommend The Cake Shop and I will definitely get more treats from them in the future.

I had my wedding cupcakes done many years ago and after that never thought I would use them again. They ended up being nothing special, not like I was shown, tasteless and dry. All of them. I was very disappointed. I could have done it myself that's how it looked. Then my daughter-in-law has a severe peanut allergy, so I needed to go back to them. Again nothing really special for cakes, it was alright but really dry and the cupcakes again were really horrible. I just chucked them. I knew then that I needed to find somewhere else to get my cakes and cupcakes. I found V's cupcakes in Manotick. They are so nice and friendly, I always get what I want and the cupcakes are rediculously awesome. So Vs has me and my family and others go there to get what they need for their loved one's with severe peanut allergies. Sorry Cake Shop, I gave you so many chances to grab my business and I am not the type of person to leave comments. I am because I want other's to know there are other options out there and I found one in Vs Cupcakes. There cakes will knock your socks off in taste and design. I have gone to them for anniversary, birthdays, baby showers and and other occasions.

I got two cakes for two seperate occasions from the cake shop. Both did not look like how I had asked for them to be done so I was very disspointed that they were not how myself and the lady at the front had discussed. But of course when it is the day of the occassion I had to stick with these cakes. The filling was so think overtaking the cake, and on one cake I asked for them to fix it and they were rude about it, saying it was not on the original order sheet, and insinuating that it was my fault, instead of simply fixing it - which would have been a minute fix. I found the customer service quick and abrupt, and the product very average. I wanted to love this place because the shop is very cute and the pictures on the website of cakes are amazing, however when seeing them in person I was definitely underwhelmed. That's two strikes for me, sadly I think I will be looking for another cake shop.

As someone who works in customer service, I must say I was APPALLED by the service I received at this establishment. Although the cake we ordered was beautifully decorated it was not put in the box properly and because of that got ruined on the way home. When I called the store to let them know what happened *I* was blamed for it sliding in the box! Instead of apologizing and explaining what might have happened I was so disgusted that they tried to blame me. However, after seeing some of the other posts I am not surprised by this. This of course was after I called to place my order (as I was already travelling from Kanata to pick it up) and had some questions about my Sugar Free Cake and I was told "I will TRY and answer your questions but you'll have to be quick" Um...are you serious? Needless to say, we will NOT be using this service again which is unfortunate as I am in the market for our gender reveal cake...guess I'll find somewhere else.

Sadly on numerous occasions this place has failed to produce, from cakes, to pastries. The cannoli probably was the worst item I've had, followed by the Baileys Crunch cake, joined with a terribly sub-par fruit tart.. This was just the latest visit. Cannoli, - While supposedly ricotta the filling was worse than tasteless, it tasted bad. the dry shell was further insult. Didn't bother finishing it. Fruit tart, - Noticed there was one in the display that was broken, should have taken the hint. The tart disintegrated when I touched it, the shell was soggy mush, the custard tasteless, and well the fruit was pretty good. Though not enough to save it. Baileys Crunch cake, - Not sure what was supposed to be crunchy, or taste like Baileys. Maybe they meant baileys as in the name of the girl who made it, certainly no relation to the Irish Cream. I could go on about dry cake, tasteless filling, but bottom line is to avoid. Brought it to a party, general consensus from everyone there was to avoid this place. Felt embarrassed having brought this cake, normally I strive to bring great desserts. The key driver was to bring something nut free, not taste and quality free.

I orders the minion cake for my boyfriends birthday. He was so tickled over this cake! I chose to get the marbled cake and the owner suggested chocolate between the layers. Both were good choices. If you're looking for a fluffy cake then this isn't it. The cake itself was very dense but very much delicious. As stated before the cake had chocolate amd vanilla icing. They are listed and spoken of like this. For me, I'm from the southern part of the US, means a regular basic icing not a whipped icing. The icing used however isn't really either of those nor buttercream. It was like the basic icing and whipped icing had a baby and it's not a bad thing. While what I was expecting was different, I believe it was due to the fact I'm in Canada and not the South. The cake was very delicious and I WOULD order another cake from here. They were very sweet and nice to work with. The look on my boyfriends face was wonderful and priceless! A big THANK YOU to The Cake Shop!

First of all let me say the cake tasted delicious. We ordered the Naked Lemon Drop cake for a special birthday. The decoration of the cake was a BIG disappointment. My husband asked that the cake look exactly like the one on the web site. They did not have the correct ribbon, nor the candied lemon slices. The cake was iced very plainly and in the centre was a single plastic daisy. How sad..... This is after all a cake store.

Amazing cakes & customer service!! :-) From the very first email I sent Nadine, to picking up the cake, she was wonderful to deal with. I had a few ideas for the cake and she helped me narrow them down to something that would fit in my budget. She also accommodated the specific flavours I had asked for. When we picked up the cake, my husband and I were blown away! It was so perfectly decorated and exactly what we had asked for...but even better! All of our guests commented on how beautiful it was. And it tasted as good as it looked! We would definitely recommend Nadine and her team at The Cake Shop and will be buying from them again. Love supporting local businesses like this who are obviously very passionate about what they do :-)

My family and I are visiting Ottawa for the Canada Day celebrations this week and had a wonderful experience this afternoon at the CakeShop. The treats were fresh, and delicious. Our children really enjoyed the eat-in area and the service was excellent. The quality of the product is outstanding. I'm not from Ottawa, but Nadine was great to deal with over the phone and I sent her a pic of sample, discussed changes and details. Cake was beautiful and delicious. Everyone loved the mortar board and the detailing. Definitely recommend. Went to shop to pick up, it was ready, bought these amazing shortbread cookies in a variety flavours. Ottawa is so lucky.

We love this cake shop. We have tried many of their cakes at this point as random treats to ourselves, and me, my wife and kids haven’t had a bad one yet. The seasonal gingerbread is one of our favorites! Occasionally a bit of a wait for service, but just a sign of how good this place is and no reason to freak out. Also had their soft serve once which was excellent. Highly recommended.

Me and my family LOVE this place. With severe peanut allergies, there's really no where in Ottawa/Gatineau that we can go and indulge in a treat like ice cream, donuts, cakes, cookies etc, and have it be so delicious!!!! We can't even go to mcdonalds, dairy queen, tim hortons etc. and it's not easy to see my child sad because he's never been able to have special restaurant/coffee shop "treats". It has been awesome for us to be able to experience a safe place where we can order whatever we want with no peanuts around anywhere :) So far everything from the cakes, cupcakes, donuts, cinamon rolls, meringues, ice cream and cookies we've tried, have all been delicious. Thank you and please stay around forever!

Rude and insufferable staff! I was next in line waiting for the person working behind the counter to complete her transaction with a customer who was ordering a cake. While I was waiting, my friend had entered into the shop and was looking for me. I was about to vocally let her know I was at the counter and just about to speak, then stopped realizing she was too far for me to do so. All of a sudden, the staff member turned to me and said with a curt, condescending tone "I will be with you as soon as I am finished here", then she turned to the customer, shook her head in disapproval and said loudly under her breath "some people". That is obnoxious! You misinterpreted something then had the audacity to vocalize your thoughts to my face. I was humiliated. embarrassed, and disgusted. I just moved to Ottawa and Hintonburg and you were the first experience I encountered in the neighbourhood. Not very welcoming. You lost out on a potentially loyal customer. Keep your thoughts to yourself and be kind to your customers as they ARE your livelihood!

A cheap but on-time cake is leagues better than a gourmet but late one. Extremely slow delivery time resulted in changed birthday plans and frustration. I'll make sure to avoid any company that affiliates with Givopoly in the future.

I wish it were possible to leave 100 star rating. Nadine and her team did an absolutely AMAZING job making my mother's 50th birthday cake. Nadine was incredibly helpful and accommodating. She went above and beyond to make this beautiful cake. Everyone at the party could not BELIEVE how perfect the cake was. Not only did it look fantastic, the taste of the cake was out of this world! It was moist on the inside (not dry whatsoever), and you could tell they use nothing but high quality ingredients to bake their cakes. I provided a photo of what I had in mind for the cake and Nadine took the time (on a busy day) to sit down with me to discuss the changes I wanted to really make the cake unique. I could not be happier with the outcome of the gorgeous cake Nadine and her team created. An absolutely amazing edible work of art. My boyfriend was very happy. I wanted peanut butter caramelized flavor, but unfortunately they had chocolate or vanilla filling and peanut butter flavor was extra cost. Okay so I'm new to the ottawa area and was looking for a place for a cake for our family's birthday. I found the cake shop online and decided to try them out. I had the best customer service ever. The woman waiting on me was so helpful and friendly and there was so much variety to choose from. I ended up buying the neopolitian cake and not only was it beautiful it was absolutely DELICIOUS. I have already ordered a cake for my daughter birthday next week and one for thanksgiving. 5 stars !!! This will be our only families place for cakes and treats!!!

Ordered a two tiered cake for a wedding; white top and red velvet bottom ($150), then read the on-line reviews. As positive reviews often don't make it online, I was not too concerned. But, I must tell you that this is not a place I'd purchase from again. The cake looked pretty enough, very simple and elegant as I had asked (for a small informal wedding), but the cake was tasteless and dry. I could've done better with a mix. What didn't get eaten at the party got thrown out. Don't waste your money. Find another place to buy.

My partner bought a red velvet cake for my birthday from here, and I don't think we'll be ordering from here again. I love red velvet cake, or any cake with cream cheese icing for that matter. This icing did not contain any cream cheese, it was just sugary and tasteless. The cake itself seemed decent, but all the icing just took over the flavour. Very disappointed, ended up ordering a cake from somewhere else.

I have never experienced such horrendous customer service in my life. I felt as though there should have been a sign up that read: No Children Allowed. I struggled to get into the store with my double stroller, as there is no wheelchair accessible button for the door. I then had to leave my stroller and take my 11 month old and 2 year old up a set of stairs to the bakery.We waited for 10 minutes before we were acknowledged, even though there was only one other customer in the store. When we were finally acknowledged, my 2 year old was snapped at numerous times, for touching packages of treats that were on shelves at her level. I was told the cake design I showed her would cost $250, even though she didn't ask how many people it was for. All other questions were met with curt replies. It was clear she did not want my business, or my child in the store. Avoid this bakery if you have children.

Pathetic, just pathetic. I ordered a cake online for my son's 6th birthday and went into the shop the following day to confirm the order and pay a deposit. I was met by a surly and rude woman with no knowledge of either the order or the shop's inventory. When showing this woman the cake I had ordered, she said she could not do it, despite being within the 7 day period of advanced notice needed to order the cake. I should have listened to the other reviews. There are plenty of good options for birthday cakes in Ottawa. This is definitely not one of them.

These comments about not being kid friendly is ridiculous maybe parents should learn now to control their children in public. My children have alway felt welcome in the store. The place may be nice and cakes may be good.. But they have no respect for customers.. it’s ok to be busy, but it’s not ok to have bad attitude towards customers.. the first thing they talk about is price.. The prices are too high for simple custom cake.. the lady said me about $$$ range.. I was shocked to see the way she replied and also the way she treated me.. she didn’t even wait for my response whether I’m ok with price or not.. she just gave a rude expression and went to next customer.. if this is the case then it’s better they open only by appointments for particular people only.. this is the third time happened with me in the same store.. I’m never gonna refer to any of my friends.. The first thing customers need is a warm welcome and a good attitude.. I went through other reviews too.. after I experienced.. Husband ordered a vanilla buttercream cake for my birthday. Cake tasted okay, a little dry, but the icing was absolutely disgusting. Shortening mixed with icing sugar and very poor quality artificial vanilla. Neither of us could finish a slice even though we both scraped off as much icing as possible. Didn't know a cake could taste this bad.

I have had nothing but good experiences with The Cake Shop, to the point where I am a repeat customer. I ordered a cake for a themed party that I was having. All I asked was that it revolved around that particular theme, but I would leave everything up the cake decorator. When I went to pick up the cake, I could not believe what was in front of me, it went well BEYOND my expectations. It was absolutely gorgeous. Everyone who saw photos of it, including people as far as England, raved, and are still, raving about it. It was delicious. It was so good, I had to have two more themed parties at the request of my guests, just for the cake. I will continue to go back, as will my family, not just for the cakes, but for the cookies, cupcakes and the ice cream as well.

I don't normally leave reviews, (this is my first one ever) but I just have leave one for this store. After a frustrating experience with another store regarding image cakes, where they wouldn't confirm the order, I called The Cake Shop one day before the party and they said, "No problem." Got it done over the phone in less than 10 minutes, e-mail confirmation of the image an hour later. The woman on the phone was very helpful, kind, and professional. Cake itself was excellent and everything I was looking for. Because of this experience my co-workers are all looking to place an order here and I'll be sure to recommend it to others as well. 5/5

Wouldn't get a cake from here again. I will give it to them that it looked pretty but it tasted like a pre-made cake you could buy from Walmart. Also when I went to go pick up the cake the worker was rude and told me to "back up" in an annoyed tone when I was the only one at the bakery to pickup the cake. Wasn't even greeted at the door. I had higher expectations for a small bakery but unfortunately left disappointed. We didn't even bother saving the remaining cake with whatever leftovers we had.

The cake looks amazing, but is honestly one of the driest cakes i've ever eaten. I would give the design and overall appearance of the cake a 10/10, but take would be 4/10. If you want a cake to look amazing and taste dry but edible, this is the place for you. I've only tried this place once, but i will try it again just because it looked so good
